    When working a job many years ago, the broken pallets were discarded. A few of us would take some and reuse the wood for various home projects. Some would used them for firewood startups. What you are doing is just great buy building the chicken coop. So many uses for these. Have a blessed week.

    I like the coop. My favorite part was the tray and the wheels.

    I had a porch off the back of my carport that for 8 years I never used. With the crap going on today I decided chickens have to be bought for some kind of survival. So I tore the porch down and kept the posts to build off of for the chicken coop. It's 80" x 35" and I will be building 6 boxes for them to lay in. Your ideas were great. Thanks for the tips.

    I am glad you stumbled upon my channel because that helped me find yours. This is a great chicken coop idea. Building a coop is on my to-do list this year provided I have the time and money and it looks like you just solved the money requirement. Now, if you get bees I can help you. :-) Thanks. Great video.

    P.S.: I love the pull out tray and how the whole coop has the wheels on it for easy transport. I am thinking that you could make more, take a pic and advertise in your local penny saver and sell these. Just a thought.

    That is cute as can be, and well planned. The moveability and the dropping tray really bumps this design up a notch.

    Just got me some chickens recently and I was looking for an easy affordable way to build them a little chicken coop. And thanks to you I found it! Great stuff, thank you!
    Did you end up making a video of the ramp?

      Jeaneth Ortiz no we didn’t do one of the ramp but it was simply made check out one of the other chicken videos and you can see the ramp it’s just a piece of wood with some slates on it !!! Thanks for watching have fun with those chicks

    Just found your channel from another channel I watch. We do a lot with free pallets where my oldest son works. We built the horse barn and 3 sheds mostly from pallets. We are accumulating more for the next project, a greenhouse. What state do you live in? We got 1.25 acre for $17,500 in NW Arizona. We lived further south for about 18 years. I love to garden but we don't get enough rain for a garden. I have to water with the hose twice a day in the summer and 2-3 times a week in the winter. It's a challenge. We have talked of selling and moving to another state where things grow better but , well, there are trade offs. We enjoy the mild winters here. And no ticks and no mold but a lot of dust. Moving and starting over is getting harder for us as well. Getting into our "later years" and my husband is disabled and I should probably apply as I can no longer work. Anyway...
    I tend to ramble so I'll stop there...
    Hope you find the homestead of your dreams. You two are still young enough and fit enough to be able to renovate a fixer upper. You can save a heck of a lot if you don't mind roughing it while you rebuild. Even if you have to live in a travel trailer or even a modified shed. Looking forward to following you on your journey and watching your channel grow. Good luck to you two!
    Awesome chicken coop build by the way :)

      North to Hope glad you found me 💚 I am going to have to check out your barn and shed ! The pallet build was fun and I like recycling things ! Can’t wait to see your green house build . I’ve been wanting a small green house. We thought we found a great piece of land ! It’s actually the second property in the video titled Feeling Defeated ! Been in a contract for more then 45 days because something keeps coming up . Long story but we have one more thing to do and if that doesn’t pan out we are gonna get out of the deal ! Like I said long story ! Anyway it’s funny you said something about living in a travel trailer because I am editing a video now where we fixed up a camper ! We are open to raw land or fixers or anything just want some acreage 💚💚💚

    I like the idea with the flat board to catch the chicken droppings. That's a lot easier than trying to clean it out by reaching in. Mine is going to be a fixed coop. I also like the nesting box off to the side. Mine will be in the back. Are you in a cold climate? Do you have to cover the screen for the winter if your in the north like myself?

    • @homesteadingwithsadie
      @homesteadingwithsadie  3 роки тому

      We don’t get any colder then 25 degrees on real cold nights I would just put a towel up over the window to keep the breeze out

      Diane Picard thanks ! We used six pallets but you might want to pick up seven because sometimes some of the boards in the pallets are bad ! Let me know if you build one would love to see it 💚stay safe

  • @eulerizeit

    This looks awesome. Anything you would do differently if you were to do it again? My only thought when watching was I might make the opening to clean it out a bit bigger so I could stick my whole body inside if needed.

    • @homesteadingwithsadie
      @homesteadingwithsadie  3 роки тому +1

      I would probably have done the legs a little differently and added wheels to all four legs instead of just the two. the little hatch in the back works great to clean out the coop , if we had more than 4 chickens I think a bigger opening might be neccessary , but just a few chickens are manageable with the pull out tray . thanks for watching

  • @thomaskafka9806
    @thomaskafka9806 5 років тому +1

    Amazing, what an incredible looking coop!! I used aspects of your design on my own build. I tried with the same leg idea you had but could not do it, maybe it was the weight of the pallets, or just that I am a terrible craftsman. Have a look at my build though, let me know what you think. Take care :)

    really cute coop and recycled wood is even better by the types of trees I see your in the south. crape myrtles and everygreen magnolia? so a hot climate, soi would say you need alot more ventilation, all sides should have windows, and ventilation at the top all covered in hardware cloth, chickens suffer from heat more than cold, and I did not see did you put plywood for the roof? if not racoon can easily get under that roof edge. if I were to just use the fiber glass roof without plywood I would hat least cover the top wiht hard ware cloth first then put on the roof in fact our roof has plywood and corrugated roofing too so we put in those rubbery things that go under the corrugated panels. to keep crittors out like bees trying to make nests stuff like that. love the wheels idea, and prevent rats from getting in. we predator proof teh tarnation our of our coop and I hope it is enough. so far so good. getting ready to build another smaller coop with pallets and reclaimed wood we got free once the weather is more nicer.

    • @homesteadingwithsadie
      @homesteadingwithsadie  4 роки тому

      rose smith thanks for the advice !! Very observant with the trees lol ! The top under the roof is vented all the way around ! I told bob to put the hardware cloth in the holes but he hasn’t yet and then we have the window on the side but maybe we need to add another on the other side for the cross ventilation! We got the chickens in September so they haven’t been subjected to the heat of summer !! Thank you again for the advice 😊💚

      @homesteadingwithsadie  Рік тому

      thanks , but it actually has held up well for three years , we moved to a bigger coop but gave this to a friend and its still standing strong , I think the wood just makes it look weaker then it actually is , however if you were building one yourself you could supplement the wood by sistering up some boards to the legs. thanks for the comment.
