I've bought all the Brian Clough books and can't get enough of clips like this. A good interview. Nothing seems to phase him and he has a real gift of quick wit and management control
I think he was a fascinating character anyway, without the football. DUncan Hamilton's "Provided You Don't Kiss Me" is worth a read. Very poignant but some funny moments too. The book starts with Clough banning him from the club.
It doesn’t matter which club we support, we’re all in agreement that, Brian Clough was a 1 in a billion guy, who was a genius and ridiculously funny individual. Kicking Birtles of the coach is absolutely hilarious. Good on him, I bet the player learned a valuable lesson that day.
Yes, he was a master of all that, a real natural showman. Well, much more than a showman of course, but he could doubtless have made a living in entertainment or broadcasting quite apart from football.

He once punched Roy Keane in the dressing room after he kept playing the ball back to the keeper. Keane just sucked it up and took it whereas nowadays Clough would’ve been sacked and there’d be an internal investigation and multiple club statements.
My wife and I met Brian once at a book trade show and he signed multiple copies of his new book for us to take back to our bookshop.Had an hilarious ten minutes with him, lovely friendly guy with a real twinkle in his eye.Thank you Brian RIP.

Well as a Liverpool fan i had the pleasure of having a pint and a game of pool with Brian Clough in Majorca. Last two weeks of the 1994 world cup. I asked him Mr Clough why didn't you get the England job...he put his arm stound me and said...Young man the wankers in the Fa wouldn't give me the job.
So true. Cloughie was a staunch Labour man but can you imagine what he`d make of the party today? I often wonder what he`d have to say about all these soppy little woke warriors that have hijacked left wing politics. They`d have a complete fucking meltdown every time he came on the box.

As a Nottingham lad born and bred, I've great memories. He was the greatest manager we ever had at Forest... Took us from nowhere to European champions twice.. In fact turned average players into world class ones.. Him and let's not forget the great Peter Taylor had the midus touch that comes once in a generation etc etc...

Remember assuming (based on everything we were told) that Clough was past it when Forest went down and had succumbed to alcoholism etc. Amazing then to see him in this interview as sharp as a tack and full of charisma. If he’d managed nowadays he would have gone on for another 15 years.
