@@shaz2761 Recorded plenty more forgetful songs than memorable ones though. But Barry didn't really know that much about music did he? Heck, he thinks Sgt. Pepper was the Beatles "last big album." Funny, The White Album, Abbey Road and Let It Be all followed Sgt. Pepper and sold more than every Bee Gee's album with the exception of Saturday Night Fever. By this logic, The Bee Gees were a one album wonder!
After Maurice and Robin had passed away, Barry played at Glastonbury. An audience made up of mainly millennials totally unfamiliar with the music of the BeeGees. Yet they still knew this man had serious gravitas, and not only did they show all due respect to him, they actually really enjoyed his time on stage. It says a lot about him and them; you don’t just happen to become music royalty, it only occurs after years of hard work but above all enormous talent.
Well said. No education in the world can outweigh simple manners and respect for others. I like that you made a point of the crowed being millennials and still had respect. Where Clive was born in the 50’s
Millennials have parents who play their music, thereby educating their offspring. Streaming services have options that show you where other people who share your musical interests, listen to. Also artists similar to the ones they listened to. I listen to music from before either one of my parents were even born. The options are plenty for everybody to discover everything, so your assumption is utter .... I am old enough to know some of the Bee Gees hits from when they came out (although too young to care at the time). Their hits are okay, when I hear them on the radio, I even have some on some random compilation albums, but none of their songs will make it into my top 1,000 of greatest songs ever made, and if you only go on talk shows to have the host blow smoke up your backside, you have a serious ego problem. So the misters Gibb will not be in my top 100,000 of greatest people that ever lived. Another interview where Barry walked out because of a question : Barry said something about how influential the Bee Gees had been, and all the interviewer did was ask for an explanation. To me, that was an interesting question, because I wouldn't be able to tell you ANY influence they were responsible for. I still couldn't. Disco, tight pants, hit singles, brothers making music, falsetto singing, mediocre songs, overinflated egos... They had all been around from before their career started. Well, not the disco, obviously, but that was an impressive example of them jumping the money train end reviving their career (also around from before their careers started).

The brothers didn't have it easy in their early days, they started off as just kids to probably help their parents and it is absolutely disgusting to see how this good-for-nothing disrespected them.
When you're a huge musical act yourself, writing your own juggernaut #1 hits, plus behind the scenes you're writing massive (#1's being the golden milestone) hits for other musical acts, I always viewed that as an amazing accomplishment proving truly blazing talent. That's Bee Gees, 100%.
It wasn't mentioned that they got their first hits as the BeeGees in Redcliff Queensland. I know it very well and the house they rented while they were becoming tradies. Redcliff was a dive, full of drunks living in seaside shacks. To pull themselves out of that is another underated achievement. Signed Brisbane Australia.
I get this was a show where you get roasted and humiliated in front of people, but this was definitely a step to far. You don’t make fun of peoples personal history, and achievements they’ve made in life that makes someone feel proud. The Bee Gees were gentlemen, always polite and had manners to everyone they ever met, they were great men who deserved respect. Another thing about them, they all stood up for each other no matter what. Maurice was even polite to Clive when he was leaving. He was no doubt the best Bee Gee.
I disagree that it was a step too far. Especially the joke that made them leave. The song name was "Don't Forget to Remember" and he cracks that he forgot it. It's not even an insult, just a little "dad joke" on the title. The only thing that might have gone too far was when he joked that he thinks of them as tossers, but since they said it first I think it was both acceptable and predictable the way he said it. And if they took offense at him saying he personally enjoyed their earlier stuff but not really the later stuff, then that's just sensitive egos because every musician has heard that.
I remember watching this when I was 11 years old live on tv, I didn’t know why they walked off at the time, watching this 26 years later it makes perfect sense.

Barry said something about how influential the Bee Gees had been, and all the interviewer did was ask for an explanation. Disco, tight pants, hit singles, brothers making music, falsetto singing, mediocre songs, overinflated egos... They had all been around from before their career started.
Even though Maurice wasn’t as offended as Barry and Robin was, he still wasn’t gonna sit there and talk to someone who just offended his brothers and made them leave, he was gonna support them instead.
It's a shame they never covered the song "I Forgot to Remember to Forget".

This is what happens when the interviewer is more worried about getting his laughs than doing a good interview with one of the biggest bands at the time
Exactly.
Absolutely love the BeeGees and their music! It’s iconic!💜💜💜
who doesn't like the bee gees........
Thanks…really interesting comment
Thing is the brothers were known to have fantastic senses of humour and it shows that Clive was in no way funny, just insulting. You do not disrespect the Bee Gee's and they were so dignified in there walk off x
I couldn’t agree more. I would have a sense of humor unless I was in in a bad mood tired because of travel, etc., but I would take his Mickey Mouse joke laugh it off but the second one I walk off like why did you interview me you just try to insult me. I’m a superstar you work here.
Lyrics and harmonies let us feel emotions of the songs, Bee Gees are legendary.
Clive is a loser
Wow, Clive's face when Barry said he was leaving and walked off. Clive realized it's not a joke. Clive looked embarrassed.
Hardly. I remember watching it on TV at the time of broadcast and my family laughed their heads off at these pompous pricks. It made Clive Anderson's show more popular. And years later, Barry at least had the grace to admit he was a humourless prick.
This was a wasted interview. These guys are witty, funny, interesting and full of the best stories from an amazing career. The no-neck idiot was disgraceful, yet they still carried themselves with utmost dignity.
the bee gees, especially barry, looked very uncomfortable during that interview.
think the public have always loved the bee gees so clive was on his own calling them that name
They are there to get publicity. They seem to need a safe space, decades before such spaces were invented. Barry seems to have a massive ego. (I do like their music)
@@123axel123 calling them tossers is not right though
Why is the host talking way more than the guests? This is awful tv.
I remember watching this live and thinking it was odd they walked out. Seeing again so many years later, knowing how many hit songs they wrote, and the stick they got after the disco craze, I can understand why they walked out. A few jokes at their expense would have been funny, but Clive was relentless. He'd never have done that to Paul McCartney, Elton John or George Michael etc etc. I'm actually amazed they didn't walk out earlier.
Bollocks mate. Jay Leno was even worse to Garth Brooks (Brooks welcomed the humor however). This is light compared to many piss takes.
I didn't see anything wrong with any of the jokes.
The bee gees acted like how they sound. Girlymen.
@@jaredleicht1656 there wasn't anything wrong with the jokes... many bee gee's fans are worse tarts than barry gibb... at least he and his brothers went on to say they regretted taking it as seriously as they did
@@jaredleicht1656 I had to google what 'tosser' means in British English... If you check it, you will better understand the Bee Gees' reaction
He would have, that was the show. They weren't properly briefed and that was not their or Clive's fault. They gave no indication that they were not going with it; took the Toussers comment etc.
Where's Clive's massive catalog of totally original world famous beloved iconic hit songs spanning multiple decades? Oh, he doesn't have even one song? What a surprise.
The HBO Bee Gees Documentary is Amazing. By Spielberg's People...
He's 71 yrs old as of 2024 if you want to call him and take more shots 😂😮🤣 📣☎️
- Clive inner demons took over that interview
Nobody minds a joke here and there but insult after insult. ....Naww they were right
Christine K Well I can relate to the lads here. I couldn't be arsed putting up with that stupid fool either
Christine K Clive wanted a one man show. He got what he thought he wanted.
Why would they have to do their homework, the Bee Gees were guests on the show. Also humor is fine but Clive needed to know when to draw the line.
Clive started a joke. Or at least he tried to.
Clive A is the tosser.
Three more kind, gentle, humble souls you could not meet
A classic case of Clive Anderson trying to be funny and humorous but totally over stepping the mark and being rather rude at times.. you could tell it was going wrong right from the start, he was stunned when they just walked off. 😂 loved it…
Maurice being like "Well, I guess I'd better join them" after nearly ten minutes of Clive wedging their own historical tension with each other at them is a pretty glorious moment
That’s one thing about them, they all stood up for each other no matter what. Even though Maurice wasn’t as offended as Barry and Robin was, he swill wasn’t gonna sit there and talk to someone who just offended his brothers and made them leave, he was gonna support them instead. Maurice was even polite to him when he was leaving. He was no doubt the best Bee Gee.
@@smoocifilms6169 - I agree. Maurice demonstrated a lot of class here. He even had a great one-liner before he exited. I don't know what went on with Maurice and Lulu for that relationship to have ended so poorly. Maybe Maurice grew up since. Much respect to him.

Actually, a very polite way to leave the interview. Most of the time, these sorts of interviews are supposed to be light hearted and fun, but he was subtly pressing and pressing until Barry noticed it, and any decent human would've picked that up from his expression halfway through, but Clive did not back down at all, just kept pushing it. Not cool at all.
BeeGees are ALWAYS A CLASS ACT
A few weeks later they appeared on Des O,Conner. Des could give & take a joke & the atmosphere was warm & funny & the guys even played their songs on the couch.
Des O' Connor is a legend like the Bee Gees. Anderson is just a complete wanker
I watched this when it first aired and I was so happy to see them walk out on that pompous idiot. I don't know how they lasted as long as they did.
Never heard of that guy Clive. What a rude man. The Bee Gees are a living legend and I'm glad they walked off the stage. Good going guys.
Haha Clive’s face when they walked off. Endless cheap gags from him desperately trying to get a laugh and he himself became the laughing stock
The moment when Barry’s face changes is golden. So glad he had the balls in the end to say stuff it and walk off
A pompous egotist is all Gibb is.
Which moment is that?
@TheMarlinspike You obviously don’t know Barry Gibb very well.
Barry never got over being called "tosser." Yeah, very rude, Clive!
He actually said you're the tosser pal. But yes I agree.
How awful to insult those young men on live television , l could see very much Barry was upset. The Bee Gees have always been kind and generous to all there fans. Sending love to Barry and his family, hope the arthritis isn't to painful at present , as suffering myself know l bad it can be . Xx

Why did the host have to be so silly. The BeeGees are not one big joke. Glad they walked out.
As an American, I’m in awe of the class & etiquette of these rock stars. Even the way they said “fuck you” was polite.
Not all Americans are crass.
Bee Gees have Canadian blood in them. 😂
@@xbman1 I don't understand your comment. They never lived in Canada.
@@JustMyOpinion11 don't think he means literally; I think it was an attribution to the stereotypical behaviour of a Canadian as being overly polite, saying that the Bee Gees, here, are like Canadians because they were polite even in leaving the show.

Much respect for walking out on this rude idiot. He was awful!

Good for you Barry! You don’t have to put up with such insults.
The moments Clive said.. So you're the last criminal deported to Australia, I can see the change in Barry face. That's quite an insults to most Australian.
I’m Australian and I find references to the convict era to be more irritating than insulting. It was far too long ago to be worth making jokes about, yet British comedy shows continue to make the reference. The penal transportation ceased in 1868.
Given the fact that the British went to Australia and committed the worst act of genocide in world history, THAT should be the historical event that comes to their minds when Australia comes up in their conversation, not the bloody convicts.

All the people that would've loved to interview these guys and this guy got the booking. Well, HAD the booking, and not for very long.
I think the Brothers Gibb held on as long as they could bc they really care about their fans, but then that was it! Barry's face was getting beet red from the anger he felt towards this incompetent, disrespectful moron.
