  • Brian Clough being interviewed by TV presenter Brian Moore and putting forward his own forthright views on newspaper owners, the then sports minister and fellow football managers. Despite his acidic comments Brian Clough’s love of the game of football shines through. Brian Clough was one of the most successful football managers of 1970’s, 1980’s and early 1990’s. His football career was shortened by a serious injury and he retired in 1964 after making 274 appearance playing for Middlesbrough FC and Sunderland FC and scoring an amazing 251 goals.

A one off. Maestro. Genius. Too scary for the suits at the FA or else I’m sure football would have ‘come home’ years ago.

I really miss Cloughy. Great character. Great manager. Spoke his mind. Take it or leave it. He wasn't a yes man. He managed Nottingham Forest but I'm a Notts County fan. He and Peter Taylor did wonders for football in Nottingham and area whether they we're Forest or County. R I P Brian.

    • @KryptonitetoallBS

Yep Clough is the greatest "English" manager as he built 2 successful clubs with limited resources. Paisley didn't actually build anything. Shanks ( the true genius) took LFC up from Div 2 to the top table and won trophies at home and in Europe. When he retired Paisley who was a lovely old chap and tactically astute, took over the reigns of a very good side and with the help of the boot-room, he decorated the house which Shanks built. Money was no problem for Paisley during his tenure either as he smashed the transfer record whenever he needed a top player!
We must also acknowledge that Clough needed Peter Taylor by his side.

He was right - but his rant is hollow since he did a column for The Sun. "For my sins". It wasn't a good enough answer, Brian. If you loathed The Sun, you wouldn't have accepted the Murdoch dosh.

As a liverpool fan I cant argue with him. He was spot on but unfortunately his comments on Hillsborough shamed him and me and thousands off other people didn't respect him after that. Brian clough was a great manager who let himself down and every working man in the country after them comments. Rest in peace Brian clough.

He deeply regretted those remarks. Misled by the police and government. Not to excuse him but hey my own Dad still believes the Pool fans stole wallets off the dead, I can't convince him otherwise. With love and respect from an old Forest fan.
