I never watched Nintendo Minute because it seamed almost too young for me but this podcast is the only podcast that I listen too weekly without fail. The stories are just so good to hear
I watched it occasionally, but felt kind of similarly. I also thought Kit and Krysta were actors like the Nintendo Week crew and that made me think their interests in the products were manufactured which put a bad taste in my mouth. It wasn’t until they announced their retirement that I realized that they were big bigwigs in the marketing department and then I gained much more respect for them. Then after watching the first episode of this podcast, they won me over.
That Gamecube SMACKDOWN! ;-; It was a dedicated Games machine through and through. Some of the fan favorite and/or best games in their respected series were on the GameCube; Wind Waker, Sunshine, Melee, Double Dash, METROID PRIME, etc. It was a damn good game producer
Love the ep guys! Just wanted to say to Kit about getting a game I read about a lot as a kid; The game I saw in so many magazines(we didn't have nintendo magazines I'm australia)as a kid for me was advance wars. It got all the delays back on the GBA, and when it did come out, I was like maybe 13/14, and no one at my school had it or cared. Almost bought a $300 version back in 2020 during the start of the pandemic. I am so excited for the re-release next month being 33. I feel it's time to see what this game is about.
you guys should do a video where krysta teaches kit mahjong, then do actual games where the loser does yakuza themed challenges or punishments, that might be pretty fun!
I was a kid during Satanic Panic of the 90s. Around 2000, my parents were reading some article on the World Wide Web about how Pokémon was Satanic. They called me in to the room and started reading about how Gyarados was some sort of demonic entity with esoteric name origins and how Abra Kedabra Alakazam were witchcraft. It traumatized me and I never watched another episode of Pokémon…until like a month later and then I didn’t care if it was Satanic.
YES, GAMING HISTORIAN!!! I believe it is hands down one of the best documentaries he did... Although I really enjoyed seeing his documentaries about Tengen and Mario 2, 3 and World
Visiting a game shop back in the days where so much fun they had sections for: snes, gb, gbc, n64, gc, ps1, ps2, pc. Like visiting a candy store. Today it's closed for good.
I think one thing with the Gamecube that might affect its rosy nostalgia these days, is that it was sufficient if just one friend in your friend group owned the console. The maximum benefit was reaped in that situation, while the PS2 or Xbox had much clearer benefits to actually owning one yourself. As for the Tears of the Kingdom leaks, I feel like the Zelda team would have selected artwork for the book assuming it might leak months ahead of time. Having looked through it, it looks like the kind of stuff that would be in a trailer a month or so before release.
It's incredible how far you have both come with this podcast. You started out very good but now you're even more casual, more loose with this job and you can see it with the hologram pee discussion hahaha. Hopefully one day I can join your Patreon on the $10 tier 😭
I went to the Super Nintendo World in Osaka. As a piece of advice, if you're trying to do everything in one day, do the single rider line for the Mario Kart ride. The group rider line was more than double the wait time of the single when I went. I waited over 2 hours in the group line. You can eliminate this problem with the fast pass if this is also offered at the Hollywood location, but in Osaka, it was essentially the same price of admission to Universal and was only usable for the ride you bought it for (ex: you buy the Mario Kart fast pass but it only works on for Mario Kart, not Yoshi's ride).
46:49 Here in Brazil, when a burguer has cheese on it, we represent it with an "X" (Ex "X-burguer" = Cheeseburguer). So I love the name "X-bone", because it makes me think of a sandwich where they replaced the burguer with a bone, then covered it with cheese hoping nobody would notice, which is somehow a good representation of what Xbox one was at launch.
Great episode Kit and Krysta! I love the good old stories & adventures of video games. Kit bringing in the element of surprise. I felt like the Xbox 360 and the Wii lasted longer than they did. I still feel like the Wii lasted double its time since Wii games were still being made after 2012 (Just Dance especially). Reggie definitely made some big moves with the Wii, especially in his book (for anyone who hasn't read the book yet, it is definitely worth a read 5/5).
I had cousins who weren’t allowed to play Pokémon. I’m not exactly sure why, but their parents were very religious so I’m guessing that had something to do with it. They were allowed to play other video games and even violent games, but Pokémon was completely banned in their household.
Kit, you’ll be fine on Mario Kart Ride. The ride is more like a Disney Dark ride, slow and steady track ride. Krista- Mario Cart Augmentation Glasses are nothing like Harry Potter. The glasses on Harry Potter is for the 3-D video. Augmentation glasses is an overlay of the physical ride and show video game projections on top of the physical set. (Only watched the videos)
The "line" between you and Nintendo you mentioned is what made this podcast possible in the first place, so it's very much understandable that you'd wanna keep it that way! =D
The only system I really felt like it overstayed it’s welcome was the ds. I remember buying it in 2004 and I literally didn’t touch it after 2006. The wii & ps3 took over
My 2 best friends both had Xbox & PS, while I had a GC. I would bring my GC to their houses, & they would bring an Xbox to my house. Our 2 main games were Halo on Xbox (us vs strangers online) & SSB Melee on GC (either free-for-all between the 3 of us, or the 3 of us vs a level 9 Ganondorf). When there were only 2 of us, we also played 2 player games like The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King, Soulcalibur 2 (on GC with Link), & ALL the Lego games. We played a LOT of GameCube. When I was alone, I had so many GameCube games. Zelda Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, OoT & MM on the Collector’s Edition, The Lord Of The Rings: The Third Age, Animal Crossing, Tony Hawk, Metal X, & more. There were more that I wish I played back then but I missed them; Pokémon Colosseum, Pokémon XD Gales of Darkness, & Star Fox Adventures for example. GC was a good console with good games. GC still has the best controller of all time.
Here for podcast 54! Comment starts.....now 🎉 I get you, Kit. I'm not much of a fan of theme/amusement parks myself & I've never been on a roller coaster. I've never thought about them not being safe, but now that you mention it they really don't look like it lol Wow the Retron 2 broke?? That's crazy, I just finished watching that unboxing vid before this lol Amazon returns is great, huh? Kit: Yes, I got you Little Mermaid for the NES... Krysta: I'm so excited but I don't have a re-tron (What was probably Kit's thoughts: well you can just play it on my Retron 2...) Krysta: This was my favorite game of all time...I played it til it broke Kit: You played it until it BROKE?? Krysta: I literally broke my NES and the game Kit: What in the world...? (Kit's thoughts again...probably: uhhhh maybe I won't be sharing the Retron 2...) Lol I certainly would've been thinking that XD Sheesh all those people may possibly be contacted in the event of a leak? That's crazy...it's like a shockwave Oh dear...that last question seemed to open up an old wound for Kit lol I hope you 2 work out that Rhythm Heaven mess Thanks for another podcast. I'm out ✌🏿
Kit and Krysta’s insights into the industry just can’t be beat! Loved hearing about GameFreak and getting some ideas about what’s going on at Nintendo with the recent leaks.
What I find peculiar about the GameCube, is that it was barely three years on the market, and Nintendo was already laying out plans for the “Revolution”. That, to me, does not sound like they had it all planned out too well... Imagine the Switch already getting bumped to the side by 2020.
Yakuza Ishin sounds a little like Yakuza 6 where a huge part of the plot is a VERY important Japanese thing that just goes over my head. But I still love it anyway. Hell the dynamics of the Tojo Clan/Omi Alliance/all the families still confuse me! Also someone teach me Mahjong. I need to 100% a Yakuza/Like a Dragon game one day. 1:12:10 Go Jags? I love that Lunchables story. I just imagine it was like 20 Lunchables and one person ate them.
I’m so disappointed to hear how bare the Nintendo offices are/were. Not only is working in an office space with no personality or color depressing it can be a huge creative block…top it off with fluorescent lighting and it starts reminding me of a prison. Again, another wonderful episode; Ty!
11:37 Krysta: "I don't get motion sickness" Krysta in the Pokemon Scarlet/Violet Stream: "Stop moving the camera so much! I'm getting motion sickness!" LMAO! I can't stop laughing at the "Absolve/Guilty" part! Now that I think about it I think my friend sold his DS or given it to his older brother as well before leaving. I do like the mix of absolved and guilty and love that it went straight to Rhythm Heaven!
haha if they are talking about Sakamoto Ryuma, I'm a bit surprised of the unfamiliarity. He is an absolute legend in Japan and basically ended the aging feudal system.
Love this podcast so much! Looking forward to seeing your time at super Nintendo world! I hope you include food you get to experience too! As a fan of your podcast, that would be awesome to see! :)
Hey guys~ Been listening to your podcasts since day 1 😁 Could you maybe put the episode number at the beginning of the title again? It's not easy finding the podcasts otherwise
As a longtime Pokemon fan I loved the Game Freak segment. Something that I always found weird is that I’ve never bought an Xbox even though I’m American.
Genesis over stayed its welcome?!? Firstly, it officially lasted until around 1996 or so before hardware was licensed out, and now there are indie devs releasing new high-quality titles using off-the-shelf kits. One guy is working on a Castlevania: SOTN demake. It's actually kind of amazing.
I 100% agree, they need to stop drip feeding retro releases, and have everything from the previous system on day one. Also, NSO would really need save transferring to whatever's next.
When talking about the switch specifically I think maybe it is too soon to be moving to another completely different console but, maybe keep the same hardware and expand on it. I think Switch is the pinnacle console. It has everything people want from home and handheld hardware but it would be nice if it could stand to the likes of Xbox and PlayStation. It may not be the focus for them but the future of games are visuals, speed, performance, and gameplay re-playability. I love my Nintendo and always will but I hate how it’s always pinned as the lower system when compared to others just because the hardware is outdated so soon in its lifecycle and slowly can’t keep up with games with the need for more advanced systems
The Sega Saturn will always hold a special place in my heart, it's the first console I bought with my own money. Saved up quite a bit for it. I'm still upset that Sega killed it in the US as quick as they did (they continued to make games for it in Japan for another few years after).
I'm surprised the Disney Afternoon collection isn't on Nintendo Switch. I would have that and a volume 2 if they ever make one for all the 16 bit titles. So far all we have is Capcom's Aladdin in the Disney collection with the Sega one.
you got the Pikachu N64, omg TT_TT I was also extremely attached to the Gamecube-- the N64 cemented my status as a Gamer(tm) beforehand, and... I dunno, the only thing I can say about it was it felt magical. New games in beloved series with amazing (compared to N64) graphics, one of my fav sequels ever (Thousand Year Dooorrrrrr), the strangely addicting Pokemon Channel... Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Tales of Symphonia, oh my! As for the other console cycles-- more tasty tasty history I was never aware of, so thanks yet again for that!
The GameCube is one of those consoles that people don't realize how great it was until much later. Kit and Krysta are both right about the GameCube. Kit although does not exactly appreciate the GameCube for what it's worth, but he was right, it flopped. It was an underrated console and under different circumstances, it would've done a lot better. The GameCube had so much potential, but it wasn't going to work out. It didn't have much life left because no one gave it a chance and after a while, no one was going to give it a chance.
A let’s go reskin of every single generation on a floppy disk somewhere because it really wouldn’t even be that much data yet… we are given wtf ever they seemed to want to serve us the last two games.
You guys are right that the DS should have been around just a bit longer before launching the 3DS. They should have had Mario 3D Land day one and they may have been able to justify the price a bit more, but $250 was definitely too much money and that just showed their overconfidence. If they placed it at $200 with 3D Land and have Ocarina shortly after, they would have probably been a lot better off. But their mistake gave me the ambassador program and so now I have some really amazing classics on my 3DS.
I think the length of consoles from what used to be about every 5 years to now almost a decade isn't too bad. On one hand, as a father now and someone with little gaming time, I cannot just jump into the next cycle right away. I'm still not an owner of the Xbox Series S/X or PS5, but then again as most console exclusives outside Nintendo are making their way to PC, I maybe don't need that. Still console jumps define a generation for PC as well. Without the PS5 and Xbox Series systems, we wouldn't see the push in Ray Tracing, SSD standards, and some other tech that's made their way into those systems in the PC gaming space. There was a time PC gaming took off and ran miles ahead of the console space, but now with multi-platform being the main target for many companies, it is the lowest spec systems that define our generations. Maybe we reached a point in tech where such large leaps and bounds are no longer going to happen, like back in the era of the PSX to the PS3 for example, but we won't see PC leading the way without some off shoots that ONLY release to PC enthusiasts. I think personally 7 years maybe should be the new target for console cycles, out of the desire to see tech try and advance at a faster rate. However I do enjoy long cycles as someone with a limited budget.
Console lifecycles definitely need to extend and we need to get rid of mid-cycle refreshes (except for ones that are more power efficient and smaller) because it’s just so unsustainable and leads to increased consumption. I think if gaming is going to justify its existence in the coming years and decades, it needs to do everything it can to lower consumption in every respect.
About the console life cycle which is a very interesting question it depends of the sales on that specific console due to their games and Hardware of course for example the underrated GameCube which at the time despite of the great games it has unfortunately it didn't sold very well compared to the huge sales of the PS2 and shockingly the Xbox passed against gamecube by just a few numbers on the other hand you have the Wii thanks to it's new way of playing games even though some people criticize because of the shovelware games but there are some good titles though, that console sold like bangers. So yeah it depends on the sales of console and their games if the console didn't show very well obviously it's going to last less on the other hand if it sold like bangers always going to last longer at least in my humble opinion.
I am in love with this thing!! Finally something that looks modern and residential! I love all the little touches and proactive measures. As someone who currently owns an Ember 201FBQ, I gotta say… through some euro windows on this puppy and it’s perfect! I will say though, I love what they did use.
The part where they talk about the Genesis lifecycle was predictably lackluster. As a Sega fan, these two need to learn about Sega stuff before just brushing it aside.
Well the Genesis was the most successful in north America and it's marketing at the time really worked. At one point before the internal politics really started destroying them, they had more market share than Nintendo. Crazy vita still outsold wii u.
12:01 If it were to happen I imagine something like the dog puking meme level to making interesting. Come on Mr. Kit, I have high expectations both of you and how average human anatomy can hold up.... For scientific research.
Supporting the Gamecube any longer would've been suicide. It had some great games, sure, but no multimedia capabilities, no killer launch title at a time when the PS2 had already been out for a year and was really picking up steam, no real Online support, Third Parties were dropping out more and more over its life-cycle, and, despite Nintendo's best efforts with games like Eternal Darkness and Resi 4, it could never really shake the kiddy image. The Wii was Nintendo's saving grace at the time because they might not have survived another "conventional console" flop.
On the leak and the devs not understanding.... I don't think they should have to. Nintendo's responsibility is to preserve that experience, the devs job is to create it. What the point of spending 7 years crafting jokes as a comedian if your promo company leaks your punchlines before your show?
If Nintendo stopped nickel and diming us, and went ahead with making all previously reissued legacy content (e.g. Virtual Console) available either as part of a service or ala carte… I’d be much more willing to rebuy GCN/Wii remasters at $39.99 a pop.

This is the PG Nintendo Minute.
I love the predictions and your thought process behind them, don't ever stop! lol
Awesome story, we're excited you'll finally get to play it soon!
you guys should do a video where krysta teaches kit mahjong, then do actual games where the loser does yakuza themed challenges or punishments, that might be pretty fun!
Keep the great content coming, good episode (Upto now, I’m half way through)
This is wonderful, thank you for your support!!
YES, GAMING HISTORIAN!!! I believe it is hands down one of the best documentaries he did... Although I really enjoyed seeing his documentaries about Tengen and Mario 2, 3 and World
Kit vomiting and Krysta bathroom issues HYPE!
We've gone full circle from episode 1 where Kit said he was worried about his small bladder working against him while doing a podcast
Podcast gold!!
It’s a fetishist dream
Visiting a game shop back in the days where so much fun they had sections for: snes, gb, gbc, n64, gc, ps1, ps2, pc. Like visiting a candy store. Today it's closed for good.
From what I saw the spoilers didn’t even seem to know what they were. The game still have so much mystery around it so that’s pretty cool

Gotta know why Blake Bortles makes an appearance in this episode 🤣🤣🤣
What's inside of Game Freak is the only Jill figure in existance and i'd give an actual arm and a leg for it!
I had a Wii U in college… not sure if it was quite an all timer 😅
Love this. Y'all are the best. Keep up all the hard work. :)
I used to live near Carrot Tower 🥕 😂 In Sangenjaya, very posh
A let’s go reskin of every single generation on a floppy disk somewhere because it really wouldn’t even be that much data yet… we are given wtf ever they seemed to want to serve us the last two games.
I love hellofresh. Only sponsor I have ever liked and tried
Who told you to stop doing predictions? I love your prediction videos! Please do one before Pokemon Day!
It’s not as immersive than Nintendo World or Disney but if you’re ever up north you should go to Cedar Point!
The Tetris show is obviously supposed to be a parody. It kind of reminds me of the recent Weird Al movie.
I called it a few episodes ago. You guys have a crystal ball and can see the future! 🔮
Capcom NES and SNES era were AMAZING!
52:05 I enjoyed the Chad Warden reference 😂😂
Poor Kit wants his Rhythm Heaven back! Can we start a gofundme to get him his own copy?
They need to bring back GOOF TROOP for SNES.
I looooooove Magical Quest. It is a dream of mine to have the trilogy ported/remastered for Switch
I used to have that Hey You Pikachu N64 but my mom threw it because “I didn’t think you still wanted it.” SMH
Like the podcast. Piracy killing the PSP or whatever is laughable though. I guess the PC must be magic, and the Vita was overwhelmed by buccaneers!
You could always use rainbows to blur out Kit's vomit like they do in anime.

That's awful.... I didn't like leaks and I think I now hate it.
you should check out the Mario movie toys, the Bowser figure is awesome
This Episode was so good.
Thank you!
I'm going to Nintendo World for my bday as well, and I'm turning 30 so I totally get it
About the console life cycle which is a very interesting question it depends of the sales on that specific console due to their games and Hardware of course for example the underrated GameCube which at the time despite of the great games it has unfortunately it didn't sold very well compared to the huge sales of the PS2 and shockingly the Xbox passed against gamecube by just a few numbers on the other hand you have the Wii thanks to it's new way of playing games even though some people criticize because of the shovelware games but there are some good titles though, that console sold like bangers. So yeah it depends on the sales of console and their games if the console didn't show very well obviously it's going to last less on the other hand if it sold like bangers always going to last longer at least in my humble opinion.
11:56 for research

I am in love with this thing!! Finally something that looks modern and residential! I love all the little touches and proactive measures. As someone who currently owns an Ember 201FBQ, I gotta say… through some euro windows on this puppy and it’s perfect! I will say though, I love what they did use.
the sega genesis story made me cringe in PR. i cant imagine the angry emails that would roll out
I miss the PS Vita. I wish Sony would give up on the VR and give us a next gen PS Vita.
The part where they talk about the Genesis lifecycle was predictably lackluster. As a Sega fan, these two need to learn about Sega stuff before just brushing it aside.
Krysta needs to go on What's Good Games and talk Like A Dragon husbandos with Britney.
Well the Genesis was the most successful in north America and it's marketing at the time really worked. At one point before the internal politics really started destroying them, they had more market share than Nintendo. Crazy vita still outsold wii u.

If it were to happen I imagine something like the dog puking meme level to making interesting. Come on Mr. Kit, I have high expectations both of you and how average human anatomy can hold up.... For scientific research.
Waho good video! Must watch. Lets go patreon
The Wii was Nintendo's saving grace at the time because they might not have survived another "conventional console" flop.
kit exposing krysta right from the start..
I used that code to tey hello fresh
Thank you! Trying out our sponsors is a BIG help for us!
!!!
