- This one took a bit, and Nahuatl is a difficult language lol. If you're a Nahuatl speaker and have a different translation, lemme know in the comments.

So Ocelotl’s voice lines actually have small references to modern Mexican slang. You may not know why he says certain things but it’s just a minor reference. Like when he says “good night” it’s similar to when we see someone get knocked out or messed up badly (or even die) we say “a mimir” or “esta dormido” or even as a threat “te duermo”. Also- before he says “cocoxqui” in the video, the unknown voice line almost sounds like he says “cuixzac” which means like “still?” Or “even yet?” which is basically him telling his opponent “you are dead, why are you still trying?” It’s pretty raw lol. Also Telpochtli is a god lol, he’s the god of youth so it makes sense why they thought they mean youth, but he is also the god of warriors. The 7 Suns is because Aztecs believed in the 5 suns, each sun hailed a new destruction and began life with a clean slate, Aztecs believed they lived in the 5th one of these eras. In For Honor lore there was the original cataclysm (the 6th sun) and ragnarok that Jorm brought (second cataclysm and 7th sun). Lastly he yells light bc he’s describing his speed. Hope this helped!
Awesome!!
JAJAJAJA no creo que vaya por ahí, pienso que va más por el tema de que hace referencia a la batalla por el día y la noche que libran quetzalcoatl y otro dios que no recuerdo ahora mismo pero tiene cabeza de jaguar creo, eso o solo les gustó como suena 🙃
God DAYUM
Telpochtli is another name we use for Tezcatlipoca when he is in the form of a young warrior. “Cocoxqui” is an insult towards Europeans, it mean’s an ill or sick person. Chicuace Tonatiuh does not mean 7th Sun, but instead means 6th Sun. We believe Quetzalcoatl is going to come back, during this exact transition in time actually, and is destined to rule the 6th Sun. Chicome is 7, Chicuace is 6.
@@iPhantom287I thought it was Tepochtli for stupid lol
Ocelotl just yelling "light" makes me wish for an April fool's event where the characters just yell the name of their attack like anime characters
possible with IA now lol
they can add that thing that they wanted to add but with the og voices... responsive combat? all warriors talking a lot
I'm all for it. Imagine Shugoki going "Demon's Embrace!" as he snaps you in half.
I was thinking more of literal light for like photosynthesis or something
"Nature's Wrath!" squeaky Toeknee voice
and i thought it said "WILLY!"
If he dodges an unblockable he has more lines just don’t get hit the first time
2:57 Oceletl really is scorpion from mk.
I think ocelotl has more quotes, there are interactions when he dodges, there is one quote where he laughs
I heard that too! But I tried with a bot, I dodged bashes, heavies, lights, finishers and nothing, I can't get it, I don't know how to trigger it

"I seek the path of truth with all my heart" is *way* too poetic a voiceline for someone arming a fucking bear trap
aztec warriors also trained in the poetic arts, so maybe it rubbed off on him
@@hamish8790so many ancient warriors, even Chinese and Japanese knew about their poetry, it's actually usual to see how diplomatic their words might be.

@@Jan-bk2qv The Zhanhu in particular has some poetic (and/or edgy) lines, like "the blade is blind" or "flames of the pheonix"

Never thought that Medjay would be harder to translate than Nahuatl
An amazing job as always
There's more voice lines when locking to an enemy and when entering the hidden stance I think, am I wrong?
we dont really even know much about the Egyptians
I think I remember seeing something about Medjay's in game language being made up because there's not enough information on the ancient Egyptian language to give him genuine voicelines with them. Idk how true it is though just something I remember seeing when I was looking it up
@@CarnifexTedeus
Iirc its a language made by Ubisoft originally for AC: Origins
@@armintor2826 Makes sense
I mean it makes perfect sense
In Mexico, we still have ancestors who can trace their roots back to the founding cultures and many of them still speak their native dialects (this is why Mexico has ~70 officially recognized languages). Nahuatl is still spoken by like ~1-1.5m Mexicans so it still has many people speaking and practicing the language
The Medjay existed in a point in time that has been long forgotten so what we know about them paints a very incomplete picture.
Medjay existed in like ~2000BC and Mexico was colonized (and Spanish rule took over) in the 1500s, one of them happened much recent enough to know more about one warrior or culture over the other
I love seeing my culture in for honor. Thanks for the translations :D
Btw I’m surprised he didn’t mentioned Mictlantecuhtli the god of death.
They kinda neutered the cooler parts of Aztec like the human sacrifices and tribal pillaging to make it “less offensive” but in my eyes it makes him less cool
He still would be cool, if not for the pseudo auto-revive that allows him to spawn on points.
@@bionizard5480 yeah that’s a shame. Imagine an execution where your take the beating heart of the enemy. That would be cool as hell.
@NOBLE60000
Funny thing about that, shaman has had that execution since year 1 and it’s literally called elf sacrifice in Norse.
It would fit him so well but they don’t want to paint the Aztecs as “problematic” so they neuter him on purpose
@@bionizard5480 Your right I totally forgot about Shaman‘s execution xd
Well It’s a shame that they want to tone down the brutal nature of the Aztec culture. Hopefully we can get some with future executions or even armor.
Another hero that has a fuck ton of lines. It's really nice to see a character given more life instead of 3 catchphrases. Hoping they don't stop.
real, ara is my main and i really wish he had more than like 4 voicelines

Ahora escucho "la musiquita" jajajaj xd
Pensé que era el único que escucha eso jaja

I thought he said Tenochtitlan..
Just as a bonus, Mixcoatl also is in For Honor lore the "leader" of the Ocelotl, he was the one that willingly became a prisoner for the Conquistadors so his fellow Ocelotls could track down them!
2:50
I love when he said "come here, now" and ended it with a little chuckle. Nefarious.
Can we just appreciate the voice actor as well? Like he really cooperated and his voice brought this hero to life and its really cool that he helped in translation. Really wanna have a drink with him sometime to say cheers and thanks
May we drink in Mictlan the fruit of our life victories 💪🏾⚔️
It feels like only the fighting team doesn't know what to do , cuz everything else with this hero is on point , the drip and the VA
I am Acolhua-Mexica from Acolhuacan, Huexotzinco, and Chollolan and I speak Nahuatl, and I am very in touch with our traditional culture and traditions. Some of these translations are rough, so I want to help.
“Titlahtoa” means “you speak”
“Cocoxqui” is a sick/ill person (an insult towards Europeans)
“Amo xiquiza” means “don’t leave!”
“Telpochtli” is like a young warrior, and is also a name of Tezcatlipoca who he is calling upon
“Huahca xiyauh” means literally go far away, so like “get away”
“Ximehua” literally means “rise/get up”
“Nimitzana” literally means “I take you” but I got you is also a good translation 👌🏽
“Xicpiya moteyotl” means “Have honor”
“Nechyecana in Mixcoatl” means “Mixcoatl guides me”
“Chicuace Tonatiuh” means Sixth Sun, and is talking about the Rise of the 6th Sun meant to be ruled by Quetzalcoatl once more. “Chicome” means 7.
“Niquintzoncuizqueh” means “I will end them”
“Niquiteochihua Quetzalcoatl” means “I worship Quetzalcoatl” but you had another good alternative 👌🏽
“Amo nicnequi nechtzacuaz” literally means “I don’t want to be finished”
Other than that, and a few others I missed decent translations. Cualli titequiti, good work. 👍🏽
So most of the translations were wrong??
@@javierbanda6437most likely just these, could also just be really rough translations
@@javierbanda6437keep in mind the language itself is hard to translate due to how small of a population use it we can't even translate latin all that well even when it's one of the more documented dead languages
@@yoholup19 It's also hard because there's something like 30 different dialects
Amazing Work translating all the lines for us bro!
2:31
I choose to interpret this as a hard canonisation of For Honor’s timeline, namely that multiplayer is set two eras after the end of Aztec history.
Well, two eras after it ended in reality, which is only, what, 104 years? So FH's "modern" time is some time in the 1600s if we're going with that. The Cataclysm must've happened way before the Conquistadors from Spain invaded, saving them for a good 100 years later until Horkos leadership learned of them.
Well, "saving" them. Their population dropped dramatically from the Cataclysm, forcing them to move and rebuild with like a third of their people or something like that.
Man, the Cataclysm really was a world-ending event, affecting everyone from Asia, to Europe, to the Americas. Crazy.
There's an error in the translation, it's sixth sun not seventh sun, the end of the fifth was probably the cataclysm
I like how a good chunk of these lines are like “wtf Ubisoft? Couldn’t bother actually doing your promise right?” Still nice to see you’re giving us the translations! Now I can correlate when he’s says “lawilly!” to something (I know that’s not what he says but that’s what I hear, leave me alone)
It sounds like "the wheelie!"
chipequa
I won't, it is wrong and need correction
*CORRECT IT*
What did they promised?
I’ve been hoping for an Aztec hero since before Marching Fire; you have NO idea how happy þis makes me to see my favorite jaguar in my favorite game at long last!
Þanks for þis translation, Major N. I widh I knew enough Nahuatl to help, but I could only recognise ximiqui, xihualli, tlahuilli, and þe names Mixcoatl and Mictlan.

Been looking forward to this! Voice actor has a real smooth voice. I suddenly want to learn Nahuatl. Also where is MasterJames? Hasn’t posted in ages, he ok?
I think he's in butter Raiders new video
Méxican here, obviously im not aztec, but here in México, for a really long long time, and even today, "good night" its a sarcastic form to say to someone who is gonna be OOF of existence ( you can say these phrases with anger too ), probably its just influence of the zone, idk if it was used in that time of history but for me at least, all the translations who you see as "unclear why just said that" can be use either for make fun of your opponent or anger when you are sure about to ban him for life, its like "hasta la vista, baby" from terminator but real Méxican slangs.
john marston shouts "buenas noches" in nuevo paraiso lol
Your a white Mexican? Cause of your brown there’s a solid chance you have Aztec nahua dna
Well, it’s common in English to say “goodnight” as a catchphrase in the same way. In the video he put (literal) most likely as a way to indicate that that phrase wouldn’t be used like that, only to actually wish someone goodnight. Most likely a mistake on whoever wrote the dialogue, assuming it could be used in that way
Lmao what you talking abt ive never heard anyone say something like that in my life
@@rodryduran3311 thats ok, but from where zone of te country you are? Just to know, because is something that Is not written but Is like, almost common slang here, even my grandfathers use It as jokes and they were from the capital.
Oh the “get over here” is perfect.
I'm so in love with the character, the voice lines, everything. I'm Mexican, so this is really special for me and my brother. We usually play dominion together both as the same character. This is so fucking cool.
The native language battle cries are such a unique and fascinating part of the game. Hearing the new lines and seeing their translation is actually one of the things about new heroes that never get bad no matter how bland the game design side gets (except for Apollyon...)
1:08 "Ah really!" Is what I understand the whole time, even thou I know it's not what he says.
I think its cool how he has custome voicelines for beartrap especially since its not his main feat, very cool
Oh c'mon clogger, good night clearly just relates to the big sleep
The eternal sleep xd
The AC3 background music is appropriate. Since the character trailer, the voice actor's delivery and mix of anger and stoicism reminded me a lot of Connor.
so if Mixcoatl is pronounced like “mish-co-at” with a silent L, then Ocelotl should be pronounced as ocelot, right? if so, I bloody knew it!
I think it depends on the dialect. I've heard "tl" pronounced with both a silent L and a soft "click"-like sound
no, /tl/ in non-technical terms is like how cartoon characters wearing braces may say the "CH" sound in English
In case of modern Spanish, the tl sometimes becomes an E and X is pronounced as J
Axotl - Ajolote
Mexico is pronounced "Mé-ji-co" no x sound
And Ocelotl in Spanish is Ocelote
@@Jan-bk2qv the reason X is used that way in Nahuatl is because that's how Early Modern Spanish used to pronounce X, J, and G before I/E
so modern was said like shugar [ʃu.gar]
Mexico from Mexicatl [me.ʃi.kat͡ɬ]
Yeah it's a more accurate way to pronounce it
The time will come when he says "Lmao, get bodied"
If only the rest of all the heroes in for honor had a ton of voice lines in their native languages just like Ocelotl...
Warmonger is the only one who doesn't wdym
"They should make the new hero speak spanish"
I was thinking about a spanish conquistador or something like that
@@Necrobutcher458 tercio with one of those mastines in the executions? cool
Since Spanish is a European language and they made every European inspired character speak Latin(excluding Warmonger) I'm not too sure especially since now we have Vela who is both warmonger and Conquistador
I swear he has voice lines for dodging moves similar to how zhanhu does
He does
Looool his "get over here move" actually has the voice line of him saying it, but in his language.
Thats dope.
I don't know if the voice actor is a native speaker, but he's pronunciation is 10/10
chipequa! lawillie!
now we need a tercio and the lanskne... lanskenetch? donkey shoe? a tall lad with a big 2 hand sword with proper tecnique not like highlander and that thing that he uses
I think it's Landsknecht lol. And it's a zweihander sword, the devs called it a flamberge but that's just the wavy shape of the blade. So really, Warmonger is using a flamberge style zweihander

This is awesome, thank you so much!! I was wondering if you could do translations of Rulers of the Abyss. It has a deep, manly icelandic voice talking and two choirs, one female and one male.
I believe that at 2:31, "Chicuace tonatiuh" might be reffering to the 7th (out of 13) heavens. The seventh aztec heaven was where Huitzilopochtili lived, and he is the patron god of war and the sun.
1:44 "Huallatica" my favourite parry voice line
Man imagine if Ubi attempted the voiceline project again and added a bunch of mew lines to the existing cast. I loved how Zhanhu had idle lines and would love it if the characters got more.

So interesting thing about Nahuatl is that it's not considered a language but more of a dialect in Mexico. There are several dialects in Mexico as well like Michaocan has its own dialect as well. Nahuatl (pronounced like na-wak) is actually spoken a lot where my mom's family is from which is Veracruz, Mexico. My grandma can speak a little but just the basics. After she told me about this, it made Ocelotl my favorite hero because of the representation.
