"Daubeny is a surname that roughly means 'white'." Now I can't stop thinking about the campaign warden going up to Daubeny on 1-1 saying "ayo Mr. White".
“Holden wasn’t strong as he used to be” he says as he kicks you into a top heavy that does 38 damage and Dodge attack that has I-frames more than you have eyes
In the "Wiki" about the first meeting of Daubeny and Astrea in the fortress "Feronia", during the event "Tyranny", I read this - "In this safe haven he remained, holding his borders and keeping to his own business. Until the neutrality of his land was disrespected by those who spit in the face of peace. When the Order of Horkos made their opening gambit there was no where else better to strike then the lone beacon of peace in a war torn land. The assault was fast, but Daubeny was faster. Successfully holding back Astrea in a duel to distract her forces, allowing the majority of Daubeny’s Allie’s to pull out and regroup. Outnumbered in the end, Daubeny was forced back and successfully escaped the trap, though the message was sent. Peace is no longer an option, and this Order of Horkos would see that message through". Therefore, based on this video, I did not understand one thing, did Dobney fight Astraea only once in the "battle of the Eclipse"? Or twice, The first time defending his fortress, giving his people a chance to leave, and the second time in the "Battle of the Eclipse?
Daubeny's ark is absolute poetry, he wanted to be lord, but was a coward at times, it is when a selfless act, made him the lord he is today.. amazing stuff
I still believe that Hervis didnt deny Holdens challenge because he knew that should Holden die by some stroke of luck the blackstones would crush Hervis and his mercenaries
In many ways the tale of hervis daubeny is inspiring proving any man perceived as a cowardly person can do right with enough willpower. "by all accounts it is the coward who is capable of the highest heroism, for his obstacles are the greatest of all"
In many ways Daubeny is the last hope for the Knights in For Honor. Unlike the Samurai and Vikings Daubeny truly wants peace for the world but is blinded by power. In the first level of the Knights campaign he hides from the Blackstone's as a coward, in a tiny rotting fortress and is only let free after he gives up his best warrior... But in recent seasons Daubeny has been actively fighting the good fight, helping Chimera survive and prosper. Instead of being blinded by treasure's and power he is now fighting Horkos coming out of the dark and finally showing himself. Daubeny to me is an allegory for doubt, many men and women are scared, and doubt their own power not realising how important they are just like Daubeny, taking damage from the Blackstone's in a tiny castle. But it's only when we take these hits we learn to recover and face these problems ultimately making a difference whether we are aware of this or not. And even though we may take damage in life we can always learn from it and eventually overcome the things that hurt us and overall learn to become better men...
Even though Daubeny was a coward in the eyes of Apollyon and her subordinates and other warriors, in the end even the coward is smart enough to survive. And at the end of the day, Daubeny is a survivor in a world of chaos and war. Apollyon may be stronger, better, even more ruthless in combat than Daubeny, at least he manage to live on, where she perishes. Holden Cross, the opposite of Daubeny, realizes too late and has to live with the guilt of starting a war. I would imagine, have Daubeny not left the Blackstone Legion: Apollyon would survive, the Legion itself would survive too, as well as plummeting Heathmore into an endless state of war faster than in the campaign.
Daubeny is most certainly a noble warrior, more so than many care to admit. Great video, Raven, I very much enjoyed it! Thank you for bringing us your great content
I really enjoyed the video, Daubeny’s story apart of memeable is in fact, very interesting and encouraging. How he changed from the astute “coward” of the sieged fortress, to the brave Lion of Feronia. Also for the ones that play it, the Chimera Banquet event is a viable again right now. Take care all!
If you told me five years ago that Hervis Daubeny would become the single most interesting character in For Honor, there was no way I'd have believed you.
i think Daubeny is a very skilled warrior but with limited bravery, because if i remember correctly during the eclipse event it was stated that Astrea had Gryphon at her mercy then Daubeny proceded to defeat her, beat her to a pulp and force her to flee for her life, even tho he is percived as a cowardly lion a lion is still a lion and this one has bared his claws
Daubeny story is something I feel like I and many others can look at and some what relate to, before when I was young I always wanted to be social, popular with people, out going not fearful of anything to do. But sadly my quietness and shyness always stopped me from doing so and for many years I had to deal with it, sure there were sometimes where I was social and popular but it was only at events and that was it. Until my junior year came and man oh man did I have a light up, when I came back to school I wanted to talk to a lot of people! So when I came back I did and because of that I came popular in my friend groups, then because I become "popular" I had people inv me to hang out and me changing and becoming more brave (or outgoing) I did a lot of stuff that I normally wouldn't do. So even tho I haven't done many things where I stopped an entire cult of warriors and saved the protags team, I still was able to reach/get my wish of stuff just like Daubeny and man oh man do I feel his achievements.
6:14 I never interpreted this line as Daubeny stating the facts as many seem to think. I always saw it as a bluff to save face, trying to avoid a battle he knows he can't win by instead taunting Holden, essentially saying "You can't handle me. Go home." Likewise, Holden's snide response, calling his second-in-command to face Daubeny, was him turning his bluff back on him, reinterpreting the meaning from "You can't handle me" to "I can't handle *you.* Have me fight someone at my level." Finally, Daubeny calling up The Warden as *his* second to fight in his stead was one last attempt to save face in front of his troops. If he accepted the comparably easier challenge of fighting Adamar instead of fighting Holden as was originally arranged, it wouldn't just be a blow to his pride. It would be seen as an insult to his troops, inspire disloyalty. After all, even if most of his army were just mercs looking for their next payday, what soldier would follow a man, no matter how rich, who takes the easy road every chance he gets, rather than being willing to fight a losing battle and die, as they had been doing during this whole siege? The outcome would be catastrophic if he bore arms to fight Adamar, but *not* Holden, the enemy commander. So he didn't.
That some good stuff always love this type of character. An anthesis of a Warden but smart cunning warlord who knew respect and consequences of his actions. Thats why Daubeny is so goated he literally is weaker palpatine whos always 3 steps ahead.
For Honor Lore Then: "this action both stripped daubeny of his finest warrior, but also his sword. Essentially, shaming him as a mercenary. Holden even gives Hervis the warden's old sword showing the clear difference between them now. The warden has taken Daubeny's place in the Blackstone legion...and Daubeny? Is nothing more than a mercenary now...a nobody, and he must live with that shame..." For Honor Lore Now: hahaha, magic rocc.
the lore used to be so simple back then, just vikings clans, samurai daimyos, and and knight lords, fighting each for reasons long forgotten to themselves because of a chaotic and changing world
The perfect leader for the Chimera Alliance, and with the lore behind him I say he's great. My only question is if we'll get any other characters like him in the lore for the other factions.
I feel like For Honor writers did not put enough time to actually make the "lore" consisten enough, at least about Daubeny himself. It is quite weird how "coward" can be seen putting himself at risk multiple times, and be seen defeating another warden during that scene. Also there is no fear when he says "that would be an execution" he is rather angry. He closes distance to Cross, spitting that words into his face. If Holden had more agressive personality it would be like asking for hit with that halberd. Only "scared" reaction from him we can see when his sword is about to be taken from him. It's not fear of death, but rather of loosing his status, he is reluctant to loose his position as a knight. Plus after all this time you see that he left most powerfull warlord in area, for what? He was safer under her. The only reason I can find, is his own honor. But that was not highlighted by writers, and he got additional lore only after he got popular. As he was popular, of course he was getting rather positive additions. Only defects of Daubeny, by our standards are haughtiness, and tendency to showing off. His "cowardness" is only in that he is not plainly suicidal.
When Daubeny told the warden to fight Ademar part of me always believed it was a matter of pride. To have his second fight another second. Like when George Washington had his second retrieve the enemy generals weapon from their second when they didn't show up for being "sick"
I don't know if its just how you piece the info together or for honor has some sleeper hits when comes to writing but daubany's ark is genuinely great.
As an added point, isn't it generally the norm for seconds in a duel to fight other seconds, especially in a trial-by-combat (and, if I am not mistaken, if the Warden lost, would he not then have been executed all the same)? And in the same level, in a scene you show, Daubeny also puts himself at risk to check the status of one of his troops he sees was hit by an arrow. We do not know if this is a soldier that followed him from the Blackstones, or a mercenary hireling from the Warden's party, though this act in-and-of-itself is, to me, telling of his character.
I like how a meme line at the beginning became the character developement for him, i mean really: Daubeny, show yourself! It entails he should show himself (his true self, not "the coward" ) and in the end that's how he got what he wanted.
I honestly love that he’s a strategist, not a warrior. Honestly one of my favorite characters, just from personality and character, and then on top of that he’s got some pretty nice fashion.
While people call Daubeny a coward due to declining the duel, bare in mind few things. One, he was the only one around there with mind sober enough to piece thing together. Two, by challenging him, Cross did not give him a chance. It was an insult. Keep was already taken, soldiers defeated. Holden Cross simply wanted everyone to see Daubeny defeated in person, as there was no winning, no matter what would happen during the duel. If Daubeny looses, he dies and will be branded as a traitor. If he declines, he will be cast away as coward. If by some slim chance Daubeny wins, he will be persecuted by Blackstone Legion either way.
My favorite thing is that during the campaign at first you’re lead to believe Daubeny is a crap lord. Who has Crap Morals. So you leave with Holden. It isn’t until later that you realize while serving Apollyon that you were the bad guys. Daubeny was a good man all along.
The two legends are togheter in making this amazing video? On the same day i begun to use my warden again? Now that makes me smile. Great video Raven, i really enjoy the way you made this one. It really makes Daubeny shine like the sun on his cape.
Daubeny got power over and over, and yet every time he chose to run, and that power was lost because of his fear But when he finally chose to put aside his fear, to stand in the face of grave danger and say “Bring it on” he not only saved the Chimera alliance, but he managed to gain everything he ever wanted, he became the lord he always aspired to be, all because the lion within him was done running and hiding, HE was done running and hiding, and so, this is Daubeny’s story A man who ran from that which he feared, because the things he feared were also the things that he acknowledged to be beyond his limitations, to a man willing to face those fears because he’d finally discovered the one truth about our limitations and chose to act on that truth and make a brave decision The only way to overcome your limitations isn’t about preparing for them, but about confronting them without preparation, it’s about making the decision to overcome your limitations by facing them whether you’re ready or not Daubeny embodies what the Chimera alliance stands for; overcoming your limitations by fighting to draw out your inner strength After all “That is how it is done, you see”
Whenever I think of him I think of a less over the top version of the cowardly lion, someone may seem scared but in actuality is smart enough to know when to run and when to fight.
The look the warden gives Daubeny at 10:00 when he’s being taken into the black stone legion is so sad. I wish we could’ve stayed with Daubeny and helped him rebuild a stronger army.
Oh dude, every time I watch one of your videos, that video's subject becomes my favorite character, first Apollyon Holden and now daubeny... Love your content
I love the lore for this game, now I want to binge more lore videos. Warmonger is one of my favourite characters and I want to learn more about that battle between Horkos and Chimera
To me, Daubeny was a coward at the beginning, relying on his battle tactics and deception to rise to the top. But over time and many hardships after being cast out of the Black Stone Legion, He has finally seen what made him weak and fearful and wanted to make himself stronger and brave. In the end, he made himself into a self respecting lord and now is fighting to protect his home and redeemed himself in the process
I know this video is about Daubeny but i just wanna say something. I'm making a fan lore for Ademar. The start is when 'The Warden' defeated him with a hilt to the collar bone. Ends when he finds Apollyon's corpse at the feet of an Orochi. He still wears his colours when travelling and fighting his foes (multiplayer).
@@Mylifekindafucked You want to start this foolishness again? We picked somewhat equally skilled mine was obviously better but we don't need to get into it
Raven night, could you maybe make a complete lore of for honor, it’s a big ask, but when you mentioned that the black prior went against the Vikings, I had no idea it was a thing, it would just be nice to be informed. Especially by you, keep up the great work
I dont get it, people keep saying "Daubeny is not a coward! He's a strategic mastermind!" And like, yeah, the choice of cowardice is a decision only the brightest of minds would do despite the backlash or mockery they might get for it, i would know, for i myself, am a pussy, and i remain standing till this day.
But are you someone who displays self righteousness, talks about honor, demands that others prove their worth or short: Are you a self-promoter, a braggart who shit his pants/armor after his words brought him into trouble? Daubeny is. But I don't think you are. Because for me someone who's aware of his/her short commings and admits them openly to others is far more courageous than someone who hides himself behind chivalrous behavior.

The only way to overcome your limitations isn’t about preparing for them, but about confronting them without preparation, it’s about making the decision to overcome your limitations by facing them whether you’re ready or not
Daubeny embodies what the Chimera alliance stands for; overcoming your limitations by fighting to draw out your inner strength
After all
“That is how it is done, you see”
Just found this channel, never knew for honors lore, time to binge the series
There he is, keeping them off the walls!
I love these for honor lore videos you make ❤ and good stories telling, way more effort than ubisof
Had no Idea Dob lived through the first arch of for honor lore
Oh dude, every time I watch one of your videos, that video's subject becomes my favorite character, first Apollyon Holden and now daubeny... Love your content
When I first saw Daubeny he became m favorite For Honor character.
I love the lore for this game, now I want to binge more lore videos. Warmonger is one of my favourite characters and I want to learn more about that battle between Horkos and Chimera
He was a shepherd it could guide the week but was never among the strong
I love your vids, especially the lore vids.
sad that toasty no longer does them.
I am genuinely happiest video exist this makes me look into Daubeny more like a Hero and not a coward
I have watch the video 3 times absolutely excellent storytelling
Need more of these.
Some artist please make an animatic of this
FINALLY!
I like what i see!
All hail lord Duabeny
Absolutely amazing!
This was awsome thank you both for this
The event is back so time to play warmmommy again :)
*Trial by première, right now!*
Daubeny: You! You will be my second.
Warden: Ah shit!
He still won didn't he?
@@Brass_Buckle I was tactically smart enough to know he was the right one
@@Mylifekindafucked You want to start this foolishness again? We picked somewhat equally skilled mine was obviously better but we don't need to get into it
@@Brass_Buckle Since deep down you know you're wrong, we really don't need to start this
Like how Raven Knight gave Daubeny the title of The King of Cowards
I've played this game from the beginning and honestly barely know any of the story and it never really clicked that there was lore in for honor lol
These videos are great to watch at night
Raven night, could you maybe make a complete lore of for honor, it’s a big ask, but when you mentioned that the black prior went against the Vikings, I had no idea it was a thing, it would just be nice to be informed. Especially by you, keep up the great work
“it’s believed the fortress was abandoned my the Roman legions” incredibilis?
Can you do a video on The Warden and general tozan
THIS IS NOT A FIGHT! THIS. IS AN EXECUTION!
I would love it,if Raven would do more For Honor lore videos.Like the entire For Honor lore.
MMMMMMMMM LORE like a good strong tea before work its nessisary and you keep sipping it!
I Daubeny Was Alerted of Apollyon's Death When The new horkos leader Astrea Rose It Made me shiver in my armour for my life Now The Warmongers Scare me
Don't be scared of these war addicted fools! We shall beat them one day!
Also, do we know each other?...you seem so familiar...
@@Mylifekindafucked Seems Like It
@@themightyhervisdaubenythet8082 well you got a nice armor there. Stolen from me though
@@Mylifekindafucked No i think Im your Grand son
@@themightyhervisdaubenythet8082 I have a grandson? Who- Who's your grandmother?!
Daubeny, The Loki of For Honor.
That is how it is done.
I think when ever a warden customizes him self just like daubeny to the nail
Voice lines change into daubeny
Really good video man! Very different and catching.
Does anyone miss those minion kill animations like when you play the story and kill minions you have the animation those who remember that are og who wants to see the animation come back?
You are to for honor as MynameisByf is to destiny, the supreme lore master
I have always liked Daubeny
nice lore man, one tiny issue, you didn't put "prepare to cry" in the thumbnail or title.
