the reason it might sound a little weird is because "g" sound is sometimes pronounce differently in middle of word and otherwise !!
this sound can be compared to the english "ng" sound at the end of word "sing" !
so instead of "ka-ge" you instead get "ka_n_ge" !
it is both the same sound and both are freely used and very common pronounciation- it also can depend on where you come from in japan !
you can say either pronounciation of "g" / "ng" and it will mean the same word !
