Check out him playing the 88 presidential Inauguration its unbelievable he snaps strings on multiple songs he really puts on a really incredible show for the Inauguration party
I was at Stevie Ray Vaughn's last concert the night his helicopter crashed after the show at Alpine Valley, Wisconsin August 26th 1990. The next morning when I heard the horrible news was one of the saddest days of my life. The lineup was SRV, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray and Buddy Guy. RIP SRV!🎸
Dude bought a bootleg cassette a year or so in West End in Dallas, TX ..., You you find out there, this recording was afan who was in audience that snuck in a walkman cassette recorder, with a chotd, and cheap mini mic ran up his sleeve, and held his arm in air entire show....that bootleg, poor Audio quality and all, was one of the greatest love sets..ever.SRV was on fire..sober loving life, grateful to be alive, double trouble had never been tighter...I sat in car, car stereo treble and bass adjusted to best quality I could do to capture being there. And have seeing SRV live four times, that Alpine Performance was magic..and four short hours later, SRV..was gone...cried then, bawled when I heard Alpine Performance . But absolutely smile , when I see a younger generation, supposedly divided..unify under the gift of artists and music.✌️
I was lucky myself to see him on tour in Sacramento CA in 1989. I was so devastated when he passed...such a loss. And Jeff Beck was on tour with him. They played together. What a loss Jeff Beck is too!
Stevie admired this guitar in the store but had to leave it for want of the $350 price tag. Lenny got some friends to go in on it and she gave it to him for his Birthday. That night, sitting on the end of the bed, he composed this song.
Stevie lived within 3 miles of me. I met him once. His niece was my first girlfriend. I WISH I could've spent some time with him. I had no idea at the time he would be so iconic. I can't get enough of his playing.
@@Poopbutt2134 there's nothing in that worth lying about. I just happened to grow up in Oak Cliff. We were kids. I didn't even know his music when I talked to him, other than Pride and Joy.
You mention his sweating....this was the height of his addiction. He's pale and profusely sweating. Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon talk about this in several documentaries. I played this on vhs until it was too worn out. Saw him live twice and it was magical. But this will always be my favorite, of any guitar player. It's his performance masterpiece in my opinion.
I read somewhere long ago that he was higher than a kite with 2 rolls of string on coke that night and yet, it's still one of the best live shows ever recorder and filmed.
So true this was at the peak of his addiction. Read in a book once that he was doing about and 8ball of blow by this point. He would often dissolve it in whiskey and drink this supercharged energy drink!
One of the things about SRV’s playing a lot of people miss if they don’t play themselves is the way he changes his tones in the middle of playing. He switches between different pickup combinations and adjusts the tone and volume knobs so that different phrases and solo sections have a completely different tone or feel. You hear it so clearly when you’re listening for it, but you rarely catch it happening. Stevie has his legendary status for a number of reason’s.
SRV is other worldliness DEFINED. But how bout that band? How do you keep up with that level of genius? Idk. But his drummer and bassist know. And I'm kinda jealous. Nice react and thanks for the insight!
The music speaks for itself. The talent speaks for itself. Perhaps Stevie Ray's greatest strength was his willingness and ability to lay bare his soul for all to see.
The most amazing thing, to me at least, was you can find this or any song he plays with multiple recordings, live or studio and listen to them back to back. They are almost always different. Even his brother Jimmy said "Stevie never played anything the same twice". Back to that fact of the music just flowed through him.. Eric Clapton called it "an open channel"... He never even gave a single thought to what came next, he just made it work. I love that you guys have become some attached and appreciative of Stevie's talent and soul.
One thing I want to know is how did he write such beautiful songs if he could not read music? His total genius blows me away and I miss him terribly after 33 years. Why are all the great ones taken away so young? Love your reactions and appreciation of his brilliance. RIP SRV🎸
Many of the songs were Covers of some one else' original songs. Stevie made each one his Own because it Was Then his own, pouring himself into them, he and his guitar doing it together.
And then you see his blues genius and why all the legends wanted to be him. Respected him so much, took the stage with him even the fussy ones wanted to play with him. Spoke to their soul as well as mine
Was lucky enough to see Stevie Ray Vaughan on August 24 1990 at the Kalamazoo County Fair, in Kalamazoo Michigan I was 14 at the time a Night I will never forget...... My one and only time seeing Stevie
I love what you guy's are doing on your channel. In my opinion this performance at El Mocambo was some of Stevie's best work, please check out Little Wing from this same performance. It's the best of the best. Thanks
Absolutely one of favorites. You just can't get any better than Stevie. Couldn't Stand the Weather another one of his masterpieces,. Life Without You, and you must react to Scuttle Buttin'. Enjoy his greatness🎸🎸🎸🎸
I was at the show, and it was might fine. Album release party. That was trumped years later in Toronto when Albert Collins was playing at Alberts Hall (upstairs was Blues Bar), and SRV showed up with unknown (at that time) blind guitarist Jeff Healey. The three jamming together 10 feet from where I was sitting was beyond memorable and a moment in time of utter joy.
I was fortunate enough to see Stevie live twice. That man was a living breathing example of being gifted by God. Thanks for this fellas. God bless yall.
You guys keyed right in on it: his bangers - full of bravado, flourish, technical virtuosity, and all kinds of charismatic swagger - give you a full-on intro to his almost unequaled abilities. When we get to songs like this, however, we see a genius level use of silence and ultra-down-tempo groove that is unparalleled. Just incredible.
The scene is so intimate, so beautiful. Stevie pours out his love for his wife as he tenderly cradles the guitar he called Lenny after her. Chris and Tommy back him with exquisite restraint. Stevie doesn't merely play the song, he fills every note with a depth of genuine emotion. Lenny said she cried every time Stevie played it. She's not the only one...

SRV brings in a new generation. Rumor has it when Clapton first saw Stevie in a club in London he was so astounded that he got up and walked out. Check out the utube of stevie doing a sound check unscripted.
Hey I'm new to your channel 11 that you guys are musicians to Stevie Ray Vaughan is a God here in Texas yes he is from Dallas Texas he was tragically killed in a helicopter crash in 1990 we only have a handful of music from him but we all cherish it we listen to it over and over and over he has the soul the Rock and the Texas twang to all of his music he is very missed
I still tear up when I listen to SRV sometimes, especially on certain songs. I lived in Dallas in the early eighties, but never did get to see him live. Of course he wasn’t well known yet so i racked my brains trying to figure out if he ever played at Mother Blues or any other blues club. I did, however got to see his brother,Jimmy Vaughn, when the Fabulous Thunderbirds opened for the Stones in ‘81. I can say this, the Fabulous Thunderbirds blew the Stones away as far as being live goes. ZZ Top played also,Fabulous Thunderbirds blew them away as well. Love your reactions guys, and your taste in music.
Stevie could never break through the mainstream market with a hit. Instead he had his dedicated fans before the internet - and they would pack small clubs like this - in Toronto, Canada - a dive in many respects, but famous for having some great legends - him, supposedly the Rolling Stones, and others.
If we could all communicate with such eloquence. Something is blocking our souls. SRV let his lovely wife know exactly how we felt without words. #432hz
Opera house Sydney 80s , we had 4th row , came out after show , my face felt sunburnt he was that hot on stage , dynami , never seen anyone with so much passion
His music lessons were playing Jimi Hendrix records and playing along. He also would get all the old blues records he would find and listen to them. He loved anything blues. He started out in the 1970s and did not think he could sing. He was in bands with lead singers that were nothing special. He got the confidence to just go for it and became a star.
Stevie is a god!!!! He is a legend. He brought blues to the forefront. Paved the way for so many. Have you looked at Gary Moore Joe bonamassa some of the others? Bonamassa is the greatest selling blues musician ever. In my opinion Gary Moore is the king of sustain
That brown 1965 Strat Stevie plays on that video is named "Lenny" after his wife Lenora "Lenny" Vaughan, she gave it to him for his 26th birthday back in 1980, Stevie wrote" Lenny" that night while Lenora slept, it was on his first LP "Texas Flood" and he played it regularly live, he used the 65 on "in step" on "Rivera paradise"
Thanks for this one guys. Try “Life By The Drop” and “Riviera Paradise,” from his final recording, the album called “In Step.” The album versions of both are amazing in terms of atmosphere. His live performances of them are great as well, but the “show” atmosphere is a little different. 🤘😎
You guys have to watch the full concert video, if you haven’t already. You may have with all your reviews, but seeing it beginning to end is just amazing / jaw dropping. Forget who turned me on to the DVD (back in the day:-) but I’ve never seen a better live performance before or after from a guitar player !! Highly recommend taking a night to watch full El Mocambo one night !!
Stevie named this song and his guitar ( the SRV guitar) Lenny after his wife Lenora . She gave the guitar to him as a gift when they first got together. I heard that she once walked in on him sitting in the middle of the living room floor with tears running down his face . It was the night he was writing this song.
I'm new here but I love it here. Love what yall doing. Yall should check out SRV life without you live at the capital theater. Just awesome!!! Thanks and keep up the good work yall
I read somewhere long ago that he was higher than a kite with 2 rolls of string on coke that night and yet, it's still one of the best live shows ever recorded and filmed.
It's interesting that SRV used such heavy strings, 12 and above gauge I think. Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top used to think the same way as Stevie, employing the heaviest strings on the market. But then Billy had a talk with B.B. King backstage one time and B.B. told him he didn't need to work so hard, advised him to lighten up. So Billy regularly uses 7's! Way on the light end of the spectrum. Gibbons listened to B.B. because ZZ Top is named after Z.Z. Hill and B.B. King (Top). LOL.
Checked your channel out first time last night, since I've watched all SRV reactions. Appreciate the respect your showing him. Lived in Austin was around many great musicians thru my work and musician and live music lover. First met Omar Kent Dykes Guitarist who introduced to Jimmy Vaughn Stevie's older brother and guitarist of his band Fabulous Thunderbirds.was closer to these guys didn't road tour as much then as SRV. Look fellows could go on for hrs. Check back to this video and will give you some rare music from Srv and others artist here's a sample Buddy Guy & SRV. Champaign and Reefer. Filmed at club on Buddy's Bday. They were great friends seen Buddy on break during show lAst.summer. on YT. More wiil come.
Love your channel! Love Stevie. Would like to recommend "Tobacco Road," by Edgar Winter & Johnny Winter, and "Five Long Years," By Steve Marriott. Outstanding blues.
So the guitar he's playing here was a gift from his then wife Lenny to him. She didn't have enough to purchase it, so she crowd sourced the funds from his friends locally and picked it up in a pawn ship in Austin. He uses this guitar for this song quite consistently throughout his career. Interesting model as he usually played "Rosewood" necks, but this one has a neck. Very sweet sounding instrument. He was a channel of the music much like hendrix was. It just flowed thru him from wherever it comes from. Saw him live in 85 2nd row seats, changed my life.. Miss him lots n lots..
I like that you're wearing a hat that kinda goes with the El Mocambo, T O Tarona, As Robbie Allmar called it, Boo Jays. Lenny, just a great song. I can't say that it's my favourite, because I can't pick a favourite, everything he played blows me away!
"little wing" fits right into more of srv...its another hendrix cover that stevie makes amazing...theres a srv performance live from carnigie hall with some great stuff on there
I met Stevie about a month before he was killed. I have a great picture with him. Yes, he had big hands for a guy who was only about 5' 8". Check out 'Leave My Girl Alone' from one of his Austin City Limits Shows ua-cam.com/video/vdxF48KfYNA/v-deo.html
There's 2 other songs of SRV's u should react to, both from his concert in Austin, Texas: Voodoo Child and Look At Little Sister. You WILL NOT be disappointed.
I really like this studio version of Little Sister...on his Soul to Soul CD because there is so much more to it than the Austin version, and I don't mean only the length of it.
Hey guys, I love your reactions. Finally some people who competently reacting to good music. You two do a great job. But I have 2 other great guitarists to suggest. Steve Vai (most impressive and with a lot of feeling - as song from him I suggest "tender surrender" live version) and Joe Satriani (here my favourite song would be "surfing with the alien". Thanks and go on with that great content. Excuse my imperfect english as I am not a native speaker (I'm from Germany).
These El Mocambo performances of SRV should be in a time capsule so future generations will be able to see what genius looked and sounded like. Enjoy your comments. 🔥

Me too. SRV is an all time personal favorite. It’s so nice to see his genius appreciated!! ❤
One of my favorite SRV songs. Thanks.
I like that you're wearing a hat that kinda goes with the El Mocambo, T O Tarona, As Robbie Allmar called it, Boo Jays. Lenny, just a great song. I can't say that it's my favourite, because I can't pick a favourite, everything he played blows me away!
This one you have to hear........Steve Ray Vaughan. Chitlins con Carne.
Check out 'Leave My Girl Alone' from one of his Austin City Limits Shows

That was a great analogy Kobe was to Jordan as Stevie was to Jimi
Whoever came up with that Jordan & Kobe analogy deserves 1,000 likes.
Fucken outstanding!
Tightrope live, Austin City Limits 89…Superstition as well!
So sad that we lost guitar God Jeff Beck the other day. 😪 He was on my bucket list.
I'm a fan of The Yardbirds, the fact that Jeff Beck, Clapton, and Page all played for the same band at different times 🤯
Actually, he was 5 ' 6". I had so many chances to catch him live back in the 80's and kept putting off going; then it was too late.
And Tommy Shannon - 6'5".
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE react to "Third Stone from the Sun" from Live at the El Macombo, your jaws will drop❗️
Such an amazing guitar player. You also need to check out Rory Gallagher, circa 1974.
Life without you is one of the greatest performances ever from capital theater please check it out
I wish I could go back in time an trade places with him on the chopper that day.
Ditto.
