Dirtbag Fishing on the Kenai Peninsula

- Today we are heading down to Homer Alaska for a halibut fishing trip. On the way down we will stop off at the Russian River to check out the sockeye run, it is a little early, but it is worth a look. We arrive on the Homer Spit and spend the night in the back of my tuck (dirt bagging it) and in the morning I have breakfast on the tailgate of my truck, see a lady catch a king salmon in the lagoon and then we go fishing for Halibut. Finally, I show how to fillet a halibut and then stop into the Salty Dog saloon to pick up a sweatshirt for my daughter.

Fantastic trip.
"If you came to Alaska to catch a King Salmon that wasn't it." That cracked me up. I've been to the Salty Dog, in 1992, I think. Back then we chased King Salmon on the Kenai and Kasilof. I can't wait to follow along for the summer. Good luck!
Thank you very much. Not all that long ago, there were monster kings on the Kenai. I fear those days are gone, perhaps forever. It is super sad and I’ve watched the decline, and forecast it, over the last 20 years. I honestly thought they would have done something before it got this bad. That said, I’ll be out for reds and halibut very soon. 🎣
so many people fishing in Cooper Landing this last week. can't wait to take part in it in the future.
The best is yet to come.
Beautiful area.
Early season fishing is always spotty.
You always have great camera angles! I’ve never seen anyone fillet a halibut before, that was really interesting.
Thank you. Halibut are weird critters, there is no backbone on either side, so the first cut is just how/where you choose to make it.
Just wondering if you are going to cover the Bibb number draw for the Iditarod ? Thanks Sam
I started a quick video on it, but have not finished it. I’ll get on completing that project.
I liked your video. Some guys just show themselves fishing in one spot or something. Boring. Thanks 😊
Thank you, I’ve probably done videos like that in the past as well. That said, I have a hard time watching those for a long too.
@@RaisedinAlaska well I’ll just have to check them out and see for myself. Thanks
