    Thanks for the update!! We’re heading down in 2 days for 2 weeks of camping and filling fill our freezer. And with how this spring has been so weird with runs showing up a bit late-ish, it’s nice to see the big schools are finally entering the channels.
    One quick note… You mentioned at the end of the video that the run will last for about two more weeks. This run lasts well into the start of July so there’s a good month of fishing left. If we’re lucky, they’ll increase the limit to 12 before we have to head home like they did last year.
    Don’t worry, we’ll try to leave some fish for you. Although “the boss” is rabid to start hauling them in so she may not leave a trace of fish for anyone!!
    🤣🤣🤣

      @@NuttyNu LOL! Last year we had a few days where it was a fish on every other cast. 12 fish in 30 minutes. Took longer to walk out and back than it did to catch the fish! 🙂
      We take a flexible cutting board rolled up in our backpack. Because carrying 12 fish all that way (24 when both of us were out there) is impossible. Carrying 24 fillets is doable.

    Try loosening up your drag a little bit and not horsing them in so hard through the water. I think why you’re losing so many is you’re ripping the hook right out of the skin.

    I fished where the Moose runs into the Kenai River and we had to snag them in the mouth or we had to throw them back. Has that law changed?

    • @NuttyNu
      @NuttyNu  Рік тому +3

      Snagging is legal only in salt water.

    • @TrapperScottyAlaskan
      @TrapperScottyAlaskan Рік тому +3

      Your right, today we call it "flossing". Trapper scotty,Alaskan

    • @TrapperScottyAlaskan
      @TrapperScottyAlaskan Рік тому +2

      During the day, all fish were snagged but after dark, every fish was hooked in the mouth. I guess they only bite in the dark

    • @ako2account574
      @ako2account574 Рік тому +3

      The law is the same. Saltwater - snag the fish anywhere on their body with a weighted treble hook, limit of 6 per day. Freshwater - snag using the coho fly “flossing” method and it has to be in the mouth, limit of 3 per day.

    • @ako2account574
      @ako2account574 Рік тому +3

      @@NuttyNu Technically, sockeye fishing in freshwater is still “snagging”. The only difference is you have to use the the coho fly “flossing” snagging technique instead of a treble hook. But, it’s still snagging.

      The reds run was hot early to mid-June. Some fish are still showing up. Early to mid-June is best time. The silvers will start running soon if they aren't already. Haven't been back to Seward in over a week now to check though.

      Going to stay in Seward for a few days then Hope and head to Homer, should be able to find some good fishing between there, I have booked 2 separate charters but would love to snag some reds, did alot of glossing in northern Cali were I'm from. But they canceled all salmon fishing in Cali. I'm down here in San Diego, go to Mexico for rock fish and tuna, amazing fishing down in Mexico!

    What a Sad practice for those who don't appear to be in a Starvation state from serious Poverty. I could overlook this for some, such as the severely indigent homeless people who Camp under bridges and the like. I've caught Salmon and Steelhead in muddy water, extremely Cold water with frozen river-sides and chunks of ice floating on the river surface, not to mention extreme low and clear water, and all in the Mouth with a little skill. In college I fed my family with Deer and Elk meat plus Hatchery Steelhead and Salmon that I Really Caught, in the Mouth with Lures, Salmon eggs or Flies. This thing about Sockeye Salmon not being Catchable, because they're Plankton-feeders in the Ocean, is total nonsense!! Both anadromous and landlocked Sockeye (Kokanee) are Very Catchable!!
