  • Tools can make you money, but toolboxes don't! Why over-spend on a box to hold your tools? This US General 34-inch 6-Drawer Service Cart is nothing to sneeze at, that's for sure. This is a very sturdy box with a powder-coated finish in 6 different colors. Four 5-inch industrial swivel casters help share the 1,200-lb maximum capacity of this ‪@harborfreight‬ toolbox. Ball-bearing slides allow for up to 100 lbs of payload in 5 of the drawers. The bottom, and largest, drawer includes double slides allowing for a 200-lbs max payload.

I bought my son (aircraft mechanic) the 5 drawer tool cart for the ease of rolling the cart to the airplane. He quickly expanded his tool collection. So, I bought him this tool cart not as a replacement but as a addition. Again, for the ease to roll to the aircraft.
Both carts are a great value for the price. The manufacturing quality is excellent. The fact that it has been compared to Snap On, Cornwell, Matco & other “tool truck” manufacturers says how great it is!

Absolutely the best review of the US General cart from Harbor Freight. You went into all the details, especially removing the drawers & removing the lock/latch on the top drawer.

In my experience the main difference between really expensive and less expensive carts often comes down to the quality of the casters and drawer slides used. For sure there can be other differences too like metal gauge, metal type used, and overall build quality but there’s plenty of affordable carts out there that do that part well. Many carts have their drawers opened and closed potentially hundreds of times a week for hundreds of weeks. They also get overloaded and miss treated and often roughly pushed around on not very forgiving floors. The result is the drawer slides and casters of cheaper carts often fail long before anything else does. I’m glad to see that it looks like Harbor Freight went with good quality slides and casters. This looks to be a legitimately really good cart. Awesome video as always thanks Tim and gang!

Agree. I've had my hf cart for about 3 years as maybe longer... First thing that went was wheels, they rolled like crap within the first few months. Just a day ago my bottom big drawer failed, slide broke and drawer is bent, it had been giving resistance to open and close for months now. It's a single slide drawer though and I load it up pretty heavy. I'll say for what I paid I got my money's worth and more.

Hey, I bought this cart on black friday after spending a year trying to decide what is best in my price range. This cart seemed head and shoulders better than anything else in the $500 range for my needs. The quality is also alot nice than the husky or yukon offerings I saw. The one thing that I disliked about the cart is the plastic slide locks. I thought they were cumbersome and would potentially break. I had no idea you could just slide them off. I just took them off all of my drawers. I really appreciate you sharing that knowledge.

@Hector Ortega Yeah, those slide locks also help lock the drawers to keep them from sliding open during movement, or if you're maybe moving the toolbox to another shop. Wouldn't want to lose your tools all over the highway or someplace :D if you've ever had a snapon cart, you're used to the slide locking system anyway.

Cool. I just got the US general 26in top chest and it is excellent. Moving out of a 1969 Craftsman 10 drawer mechanics chest. The extra depth creates way more space and options for tool layout.

I have owned one for about a month now, overall a good cart and great value. 3 negatives the drawer liners don’t stay in place, the casters are small making the cart cart tough to move at times and the locking mechanism for the drawers stinks it jams at times.

I ordered mine (love the green) on the Presidents' Day sale and it finally came in 2 months later. I was going to cancel my order and just get a Snap-On ($2,280) or a Mac ($2,500) but I'm glad I didn't because this thing is awesome!
Of course I put in a matching green power strip. So far, my only complaint is the drawers don't release freely at times but I'm sure that'll improve over time as they get broken in. The load capacity is impressive, 1200 lbs vs 750 for Snap-On, Mac and Cornwell. I believe it because my old co-worker had a Snap-On and it was definitely thinner gauge steel.

I have the Snap -on and they look very similar, however the snap-on is 1800.00 . Even the metal on the Snap -on is a little flimsy. The Snap -on is made in the US right in Iowa . Some of the other storage is made in Asia. The review on the HF is good for the money and definitely for a homeowner. Been around tools a long time now .

Do not grease the caster swivel bearings, you’re just asking for dust and dirt to collect in there and form a permanent sludge. Clean with brake clean and air, and lube with dry Teflon or silicone spray. Keep them dry.

You need the drawer lock! Lots of shop floors aren't flat. If area of the shop you're putting this box in isn't flat, you're gonna wish those drawers locked closed. Especially as shallow as this box is.
The less expensive the box, the less depth..
My MATCO is old, like 15yrs. Back then, MATCO was known for using thinner gauge metal than SNAP-ON, or MACK TOOLS,(the top of the box is flexy.) but it's every bit as deep or deeper than the snappy of the same generation. SNAP-ON responded by just making theirs deeper, wider, and taller than this MATCO series.
