I was a firm believer until I started buying snapon, tool storage is something that is actually worth it specifically if you’re using it every day 8-12 hours a day. Organization and efficiency is great. I have a snapon roll cart at work and I had features harbor freight doesn’t offer that makes it work best for me. Like snapon higher end boxes are a lot deeper than these boxes offering a ton more storage for around the same amount of linear wall space
Nope. The snap on / Matco boxes are nice but it really makes no sense when you get down to the numbers. Ive used harbor frieght boxes professionally for a long long time and dragged it all over the world with no issues. Everyone I work with has a $10k-$20k toolbox for some reason. I'm going to upgrade to the series 3 and I'm willing to bet that my wrenches sit the exact same way in that as they would in a snap on box. My buddy got the 1 drawer extension for his matco that cost like $3k. FOR ONE DRAWER.
Had a nickel size dent on my hutch very unnoticeable until you point it out but called my local harbor freight where I got it. Manager was super nice he understood I didn’t want to return it cause at the time they were back ordered at least 3 months. So he went ahead and gave me 150$ store credit and gave me the track membership for free for the year. Couldn’t complain with that. Got my icon work station hutch light basically for free and managed to have one of the guys at work do some minor paint-less dent repair on the box. And Harbor freight kept a customer. Just give your local HF a call they will most likely help you out the best they can. Obviously a dent like in the video. Is to extreme for me to ignore .
my series 3 had a dent from shipping in the back. they said they could order me a replacement or give me 20% off. I bought it with a coupon so I got 30% off total on a series 3 72" box. as long as the damage isn't functional wgaf if the price is right
@@cyberneticghost47 The coupon says "Available for pre-orders" too. So if the one you want isn't in-stock, you'll have to make 2 trips to HF. One to place the order and then again to go pick it up in 2 weeks or whatever.
just bought mine this past monday for $640 with the 300 discount! I am happy it’s a beautiful box and later on I’ll add other stuff to it. I don’t make enough to but those other boxes so I’m just happy there’s options for the ones that don’t wanna spend lots on tool boxes. also went with the grey.
I've gotten a 42 and a 56 lower, the 56 has some glide issues, but nothing too serious just very loose maybe needs extra rivets or something, my 42 upper came with tiny dent, but they did give me a discount for it, so it's all good, well worth the money.
I’m a apprentice for a ford diesel master tech and his snap on tool box quality seems the same as us general quality. Can’t wait to get mine, same setup as yours but white
@@stoamnyfarms so far I don’t have any issues. The bottom two drawers I need to slam for them to shut, due to the shipping damage. But everything works as it should
Nice unboxing tour. I've put some tips on my channel for power, the Icon light in the hutch and a few other things from getting my USG 56. Interested to see how you're liking yours - I'm especially tempted by the locker... Power tool rack for the bottom right drawer is another good addition (a slight PITA to install, but great for making that drawer useful, at least for me).
Everyone is saying shipping but the boxes/packaging is not damaged. I have seen two and the packaging was perfect. One had a folded up bottom flange, shipping wasn't the cause. They leave the factory damaged. The Chinese are not going to toss out a box because of damage. It will be packaged up and shipped. For a entry level box, i agree. You didn't pay for quality, you paid for tool storage. Personally it would drive me nuts. At the very least contact HF and get some money back. Having said all that, Congratulations on a great looking set up. Love the color. Edit to add, they make a 4' motion activated light for the hutch.
since you got that locker on that side, maybe run a couple of screws or small bolts through the toolbox and locker to straighten out the problem area? it would suck if you wanted to move the locker to the other side though
@@MrLarryQ Yes that worries me about Harbor Freight as they are not easy to return stuff to. They want all the original packaging etc. I had a tool cart from them with worthless castor wheels that I had keep. I ended up spending more on replacement castor wheels than the cart cost me in the first place.
@@markrobinson8539 Definitely makes deciding whether to purchase from them harder than it would otherwise be. $599 on sale for that cabinet is a really good deal but if you have a dent close to the OP's size, _and_ returns / replacement are a hassle then it's hard to say it's worth it.
Not sure if you know or xare at this point, but if you should be abke to get the same keys for all 3 if you contact their support wirh the number on the lock.
I really love the Slate Grey color on these boxes. I just recently purchased the Slate Grey 5-draw tool cart with the matching side tray. I wish I could of afforded to buy a bigger box but at the time when I got the tool cart it was on sale for $179. Maybe in the future I can upgrade to a nicer box like the one you showed in this video. I have been happy with the US General tool boxes and I am sure you will enjoy this for years to come. I only wish they would sell all the accessories in slate gray. The cup holder. the power strip, the paper towel holder or even the spaller side try that you can stick to the box was in EVERY color but the slate gray.
probably only costs the company $300 to have that bottom box made in china. For what you pay, you shouldnt have to settle for a dented NEW item. If they want to build things in china, then they can figure out how to get them back here safe and sound.
Me and the wife is thinking about getting a workshop and came across your video. Can you give me the dimensions of the one you have or round about. That looks like a good size for storage and tools 🔧.
For that dent on the side of the box. You could try getting a PDR guy to see if he can pull that sheet metal out enough to make those drawers slider better
Man nobody needs to spend 20k on tool boxes. This is a great setup and you'll love it. The shop definitely needed it!

You can see the wood framing on the pallet is crushed right in the same location as the dent, so the whole box got smashed at some point.
I have put a mini kitchen in one of my side cabinets.
U could maybe get the kit to pull the dent out just a recommendation
I would see if HF has some casters to go under the cabinet, that would give me some piece of mind knowing that it will not fall off.
I believe each corner has a raised lip. Not exactly what most would like, but it’s something.
I built a wood and metal base that sits in the recesses locker base, and use 4 casters. Flawless… can be attached to the base cabinet or stand alone
