    Bro, thank you so much! I could figure out why my camera, Sony NEX-5N, would not recognize the lens and answered it by saying to enable SHOOTING WITHOUT LENS! You are the only one who mentioned it feom the many videos I watched. Thanks so much!

    This is by far the most concise review of the Samyang 12mm F2 lens. I've subbed to your channel, liked your video on the XS10 as well. Thanks

    You're only talking about brand new pricing. I bought a perfect, used Rokinon 12mm f/2 for $190 off Ebay back in March 2021. While this lens may not be as stellar of a performer as the Fuji 16mm f/1.4 or Fuji 10-24mm f/4, it's smaller, lighter, easier to carry, and significantly cheaper. Used 10-24m f/4 and 16mm f/1.4 lenses cost at least $450-550. So if, for 30% of the cost you can get about 70% of the performance of these much more expensive lenses, I think the Rokinon 12mm f/2 represents an incredible value.

      Give it a try! The lower cost makes it less risky and you can just sell it if doesn't fit what you need. There's always someone out there that wants to try it out on the used market. Thanks for watching 🙏

    Great video again. I have this lens but have never really used it to its full potential.
    Do you have a video on the star tracker you spoke about in this video. I've been using the stacking method. Wouldn't mind using a tracker if it's not too complicated.

    • @themagicallandscape
      @themagicallandscape  3 роки тому +2

      It's really not difficult at all once you actually do it a couple times. If you use the Rokinon/Samyang 12mm you can just mount it directly to the guider without any counter weight or declination bracket as the Fuji + 12mm is very light. I don't have a video, but look up "Peter Zelinka" on UA-cam for a complete SkyGuider Pro Tutorial.

    i have a question for you on the lens. i have had it for a while and always liked the size for when i go on hikes. So on a recent hike i put it on my XT3 and noticed that the aperture ring would change the shutter speed instead of the aperture. on my screen the fstop turns blue and it won't change. I figured it was an issue with the lens so i ordered a new one to try it out. the new one does the same exact thing, where the aperture ring changes the shutter. Someone asked to buy my XT3, so yesterday i bought the XT4 and tried both lenses on the XT4 and the XT3 and the same issue persist on both cameras with both lenses. Essentially, confirming that this issue isn't camera or lens specific. I will also note that the first time I noticed this issue on my XT3 i had recently upgraded the firmware. I feel like I am missing a simple setting somewhere. (i tried to set the aperture ring setting to 'command' vs 'auto' to see if i could change the F-Stops that way and that didn't work as well.) i get that this isn't a help forum, but i figured i would ask as this video is recent and i am having not luck on the forums.

    • @themagicallandscape
      @themagicallandscape  4 роки тому

      hmmm...the Samyang/Rokinon 12mm doesn't have electronic connections, so the only way it's changing your shutter is if you have your shutter dial set to "A" ... change the shutter dial to "T" and check what happens.

    • @lekcaj1
      @lekcaj1 4 роки тому

      @@themagicallandscape when i changed it to 'T' it actually started adjusting the exposure control. take a look at the video i did of it.
      ua-cam.com/video/hEV6Axz-IlE/v-deo.html
      I no longer have the XT3 to test it with 'T' selected but yesterday on auto it was displaying the same behavior as the XT4 in that it would change the shutter instead of the 'F'.
      Thanks for the quick reply btw.

    • @lekcaj1
      @lekcaj1 4 роки тому +1

      now that i saw the video i took i got a different perspective of it and it dawned on me, not sure why it didn't dawn on me before, that if it was changing actually changing the shutter speed it would have let in less light. i guess with the new firmware the screen displays the information incorrectly, as with my XT3 pre-latest firmware it would display the correct FStop on the screen. No ideal for astro photography since i rely on the screen, but definitely workable. Again, thanks for the quick response and for your videos.

    • @themagicallandscape
      @themagicallandscape  4 роки тому

      @@lekcaj1 just watched your video. Looks like it is working the way it should. The only thing I see different from the way I normally use my camera is you have the exposure comp dial set to "C" . I prefer to set the dial to "0" and change the shutter in T mode using the rear dial when I shoot in full manual mode. Hope everything works out ok...

    Great review! Would you say owning the 16mm f1.4 already I would profit from the 12mm for astrophotography?

    • @themagicallandscape
      @themagicallandscape  2 роки тому +1

      hmm...I'm not too sure. I've owned the 16mm f1.4 before but never shot astro with it. I'm sure it's fine, but I've always shot general milkyway with wider focal lengths. I guess it all depends on how you shoot and what you like to include in your compositions.

    Hi there, I just got this lens to use with my Sony a7, and i have a really strong circle vignette on the frame... Is it normal?

    • @themagicallandscape
      @themagicallandscape  Рік тому

      hmm, I think if you've got a FF sensor, then yes, you will get a lot of vignette as this is an APSC lens. The A6000 series of cameras are APSC and should have minimal vignette for the Sony mount.
