"It's got potential" may be the most cursed phrase in gaming. ;)
In the last 5 years or so me and freinds have said "There is a great base to build on here" so many times. Diablo 4, New World ect ect ect
@@yukowl nobody cares, sneed
Mack: "Just don't go around pressing buttons or you'll eject the core or something."
Also Mack: "I was just pressing shit, guys."
😂You're the best, bro.
This is why he's fun to watch playing games.
The tutorial highlights what you need to press and tells you why but it’s all so overwhelmingly technical that you just end up pressing shit. I could never cold start the ship without that tutorial
loooool
Forgot to mention that all wiring, and liquid/gas piping, will be simulated as well. You’ll be able to take down paneling g to track down problems if playing as the engineer. Viruses/poison/etc. will be able to use the ventilation systems to affect ship wide. Great stuff. Next goal on the list is to add planet landings.
OK. But the ship is empty. There is no way enough people will download this game to allow for a full crew. Running around doing mundane engineering tasks will get boring super quick.
@@apk4381There will be a full crew of AI ship mates on the ship when it releases. This ship in particular can hold 200 crew members. It’s not even in early access yet, so of course it’s empty. It’s only a tech demo currently.
"You can be a Neelix" must be the pull quote on the box of that game.
Tuvix.
@@ishotmyboss How amazing, I started watchign Voyager few months ago (for the first time) and I watched that Tuvix episode yesterday :D
@@ishotmyboss confirms mergers of science officer and morale officer will be possible. Going to need the captain to take harsh, decisive action with this one.
@@brigbrizzI think Tuvok was the tactical officer sorry for being that anal person 😂
yeah i'm not giving it too high an expectation. i've learnt my lessons of being hyped by games.
I love co-op games, and I love 'crew simulators' such as Barotrauma which seems to be the most successful one. There have been a handful of these spaceship crew simulators, from Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator, to Pulsar: Lost Colony, to Void Crew, and likely others I've missed. I have not yet played the demo as of yet but if it's as you described the systems on the ship will work almost like in Space Station 13 except not made on... well, the BYOND engine. I would totally be an engineer for something like that. So far these games seem to enjoy limiting you to 4 player co-op but from the sounds of it there's an opportunity to have entire servers full of people just operating a single ship which would be quite a feat for a small developer.
The trouble with these games is finding the people to play with.
Great news is that the dev is planning to release the base game for free.
The only way youre going to feel "cheated" is if you give to the kickstarter I guess, but if you donate to a kickstarter on a free game then youre almost certainly doing it just to show support.
This is the first time I have backed a project on kickstarter. Crossed fingers it goes the distance.
Fun fact: Wolf 359 is an actual star system failry close to ours.
It's been in every game since Elite in 1984. It's almost a meme star.
Fun fact: The world is flat
@@johnny5805 Yea, but he seems to think that just because a certain Sci-fi space fleet got their collective behinds handed to them by a single big flying cube that it is something specific to said scifi universe.
stumbled across a dev video the other day completely by chance. Just the complexity of the startup sequence blew my mind
I agree with your take though - very much a wait and see for me
Best and worst thing about sci-fi and complete fantasy "simulators" is that complexity is only limited by imagination. They can come up with any pseudo-realistic mumbo jumbo to do as a startup sequence, that after some time you might be asking yourself why does the game wastes time. When you play DCS and go through that you don't really question that, because if that's how an F-16 works - that's how it works.
I'm cautiously optimistic about this one. But artificial complexity of fictional sims is something that is not easy to design to be actually interesting.
@@Quicksilver_Cookiethe nice thing about this game is that you will have a job to do so people who play engineer will be very good at the complex engineer stuff. This gives you a chance to be a specialist. In theory.
Played the demo. Holy cow!! So much potential. Love it. You can scoot around on office chairs. 10/10.
I'd be a chief engineer no problem. How hard can it be? All I have to do is press this button and th... 💥
It seems to have smashed its Kickstarter goal already with 22 days to go
Yeah someone needs to fill the mess that Starfeild left. We deserve a good space game.
Haha, I think Starfield is much closer to the ST show than a hardcore simulator. Weird looking people having awkward conversations and a lot of bullshit nonsense in between
Sounds like a mix of Star Trek Bridge Commander and Space Station 13. Would love to see it work!
Something for all the StarCitizen pledgers to pass the time with
SC will be out before this, well SQ42 at least. It's literally a Kickstarter tech demo. Not wishing to be negative, but it feels like it's over-promising at this stage and the 'release' dates are even more wildly optimistic than SC back in 2012.
@@demonicsquid7217lol how much did you waste on scam citizen? 😂
@@demonicsquid7217answer the call 2014 lol
@@natty4316 Go watch the StarEngine trailer and come back i think 😅
@@demonicsquid7217"it's literally a kickstarter tech demo"
Which one?
I been watching this for a while and it looks great but I fear the developer is underestimating what he can achieve in a couple of years with the budget he is looking at. It looks like Sean Murray all over again, hyper enthusiastic, promising the world on a stick. And I have no doubt he means it and it's possible but I think he gonna get a reality kick in the b*lls in the next 12 months when he realises he needed 4 times the budget or 4 times the time to do what he has promised.
My hope is I'm wrong or he sticks to it regardless and we just have to wait longer or it goes viral on Kickstarter
It won't go viral, the people who buy it will be running around alone or with a couple of friends in a huge ship completing complex tasks and give up on it after a day.
Nothing about this is appealing unless their is an RPG element with a functioning AI crew and you can choose the role you want to play on the ship with them.
It will be DOA.
Thats exactly what I fear and why im on the fence of backing it. These type of multiplayer games NEED good AI incase theres no one to play with and thats just the tip top of mountain of possible problems add on top of that its a solo dev....and oh boy, you nearly need a miracle. @@apk4381
It will always be created, so if it takes longer, then it takes longer :)
@@apk4381 Definitely need an AI crew.
It has potential sure, but a lot of concepts do. This is a very "wait and see" game. The odds of success aren't high enough to warrant getting excited about from what I see. At least to my pessimistic self lol. I prefer to get excited when I see something more tangible and complete.
I wish they would make these games possible for singleplayer.
It will be fully playable solo. The ship will have a full crew of AI crew members.
Fleetyard Studios could have asked for £30 or £40 for Starship Simulator, i'd pay for a good Star Trek game, I'll check it out 👍
Pulsar lost colony?
While I do care that this does well as a "game", I see it as a much more ambitious project than just another game, and am excited to see where the dev takes this.
I hope this game delivers, it truly looks like a dream game.
This channel is back! Keep up your hard work Mac
Game looks really ambitious and I wish them the best of luck, but the thing to consider is that actually making a working starship simulator and actually making it fun are going to be two different things. By comparison Bridge Crew seems pretty simplistic and yet so much can go wrong even among experienced players (I had fun with it though). At this level of complexity imagine having to hunt down a plasma leak in some EPS conduit somewhere on the ship while in the middle of a firefight; there needs to be an effective feedback system to give players in that role the necessary information and it also needs to be paced accordingly. It would suck to be blown out of space because it took too long to find some broken component on a huge ship.
These are all things the devs need to consider and plan for. Using Star Trek as a model won't make it easier either because like everything else in Trek, travel time / damage / repairs / etc... all that happens at the speed of plot. It's different when you're trying to procedurally make that happen in a game.
Love the new short review format Mack!
"Just don't go around pressing [expletive] buttons or you'll eject the core or something..."
Not a lot of videos will make me guffaw laugh so well done. Damn, lol.
👍
This looks incredible. If this is everything as they promised. I’m buying a gaming PC in 2025 for sure. This will never come out on consoles
"It's clearly based on Star Trek. I even went to Wolf 359."
Wolf 359 is a real star, bro.
"You can even be Neelix"
Can the engineer beam him into space? Because if so, TAKE MY MONEY.
No transporters, unfortunately :D But there can still be an airlock accident...
@@martinvranovsky7085 Your terms are acceptable.
The devs 100% played Space Build in GMod. The aesthetic and the UI just feel familiar.
Reminds me of the StarForge demo way back when. So much potential.
This is a good enough prospect that I flipped them 50 quid (whatever that comes to in real money). If it pans out, fan-fucking-tastic. If not, then not.
If there is a Neelix role... there is the probability of there being a Tuvix role too.
You'll probably have to catch Tuvok first.
Remember ST Bridge Commander in VR? Was amazing until they killed the AI, and made the game completely unplayable unless you could get 5 mates together.
This is the first kickstarter I've ever backed. Because i detected no BS from the devs.
I have hopes for this one.
Reminds me a lot about Interstellar Rift.
Was a game with great potential, deep ship system mechanics, immersive UI, etc.
Unfortunately development stopped and project was discontinued, probably due to server stability issues and poor space battle mechanics.
Lots of potential. Played the tech demo and think it would be a lot of fun with friends where you each have a role. Agree, if I was engineer I can't see anyone surviving. Think I will just be a passenger. The RP potential is hilarious.
This looks a LOT like Rogue System!
Only I guess it's less realistic (more sci-fi) and multiplayer.
And also the only developer didn't get literal brain damage and stopped working on it.
I'm gonna read the US Constitution to the aliens.
Just before you start yet another war with them then, right?
Do you not realize that the whole world is sick to death of the US and it's endless interference with their affairs? Whooooosh!
For some reason I just had a vision of the ship being pulled over by an alien race and the captain saying "I'm not *warp driving* through your system. I'm travelling."
@@jcraigwilliams70 sovereign star citizens.
Morale Officer confirmed. 😆
So they can have a 200 year civilisation?
Sure looks awesome, but in looking at the Web Site, the game is being developed by Dan. His wife is the manager. Jose is working on the audio. I wouldn't get my hopes up, unless Dan becomes a project manager, and hires many programmers to help out. Best of luck! I hope I'm wrong.
Be nice to beam down to a planet or to another ship :)
I'm looking forward to play this with fellow explorers :)
Just thoroughly played through the demo and I've decided this game can't come fast enough. Also, I think I saw you'll have a crew of 200 so engineering should be handled haha!
1:51 also known as a Marine 😂
Reminds me of space station 13, in a nice packaging.
If they can add a mechanic where one of the players is a traitor with a hidden mission like "sabotage reactor core" or "murder neelix and get away with shuttle" then the game could really be epic and fun as you can't really trust everyone.
The dev talks about things like that in his live development streams every week. The traitor mechanic was mentioned in the last one I believe. He talks about how that could work where it’s the tactical officers job to investigate things and locate evidence to find the one causing intentional harm to the ship/crew.
@@GamingWithGeo That sounds like fun, in Space Station 13 the game is so fast the detective job is useless.
Hope this game will have the Star Trek TNG vibe so the tactical officer get time to follow a case, and with voice talk this will be hilarious discussions that will probably be more fun than the actual combat. Thanks for letting me know :)
Here's to hoping it boldly goes instead of a pile of tribble shite.
This reminds of I-War, but it's in first person. Neat.
I really hope they pull it off but I'm seeing potential parallels with Titanic honour and glory. They promised a full digital recreation of the Titanic with a story and sinking and 11 years later its still just a demo.
Looks good I downloaded demo on my steam deck all loaded and run ok but i couldn’t walk anywhere without a keyboard but i got a good view of the office 😂
I remember independence war or i-war and how real that felt when it came out in 1997
Interesting how he mentions Star Trek in this video but doesn't even acknowledge the existence of Poopisoft's Star Trek Bridge Crew.
It looks great but might be a bit to complex for my brain but looks fantastic.
I 150% guarantee you that the creator of this game was really into Space Station 13 at one time or another.
HONK
If you watch his livestream Q&A vids, he's mentioned before that he's never played that. He's also said that people keep recommending Space Station 13, and Barotrauma, to him as references to try.
I'll just chill and read my book while the war between the Klingons and Borg is going on:) Looks really good but I think I would bore of it quickly if I couldn't get off the ship and explore the planets.
Computer, disengage safety protocols.
I hope you can be a space pirate in this.
Amazing incredible achievement by one person. Unfortunately it doesn't take long for one solar system to look like any other and just scanning planets gets boring rather quickly. More content of any depth will likely take years.
this is pulsar done right
Looks great, can that head bob be disabled however?
Dev mentioned in a live stream that it may be disabled by default in the future, with the option to turn it back on also provided.
@@GamingWithGeo Thanks for the info, I'll wait a while then. As it is would have me green
wait until this merely become the template for a starfield mod
and since starfields Main Character isnt voiced
modders can hire actors to make entire cities like Bruma or The forgotten city
but hold up lets take it a step further
ChatGPT powered AI, using your real voice and VR
hire your own pilot and let you be a mass effect commander
i honestly believe starfield is merely in its beta stage and cannot be surpassed
will there be shuttles/fighters?
Shuttles were the first stretch goal - already funded. Fighters are not confirmed.
Indie devs are the future of the industry. So many great ideas.
I got hyped for Deadspace 3, I got hyped for Anthem and I got hyped for Cyberpunk 2077.
I NO longer get hyped. Now I'm a cynical old man full doubt and disbelief.
Isn't Gaming great?
If we can get an inexplicably hot chick who can sit next to the captain and give him advice based on her empathic powers which rarely help and she is the only one who can have a uniform that breaks all standards I am in.
Kickstarter after years of development... that's a kick in the teeth for those of us waiting.
One developer making all of this from his lounge, now needs funding to bring on more devs to help bring a free game to people who want it. I don't see an issue?
@@Cleeeer I see it as a yellow flag when something goes from "coming soon" on steam to a kickstarter. Normally it goes the other way around. I'm still waiting for my 50 mission single player space game from 2010 that I paid £100 for... Squadron 42.
@@Daimo83 Coming soon is placed there by Steam when a game goes to Next Fest. The actual date has always been TBA ( across all socials, and the website) except Steam when it was during the next fest week.
The ship itself looks very impressive but that only goes so far. The content available will need to be just as impressive for this to be a success. You can't have a universe to explore if it's all just boring or repetitive. Fingers crossed.
I watched the dev vid upload. I can't imagine this goes for any less than a couple hunny on release if it's as big as it seems like it's gonna be.
The base game will be free since they met their funding goal. Dev said he will charge for new ships and expansions. Same model that DCS World uses.
You missed one of the most important aspects, it has a 1:1 scale galaxy to explore, including all Globular Clusters and the Magellenic Clouds. It blows Elite's galaxy away in terms of scope. Travelling through interstellar space is also done in real time and is seamless.
😂 and its all generated
@@Cenot4phso basically, its very realistic and accurate.
@@adamantiumreaver4283 enjoy
I'm cautiously optimistic for this one, but after being so sorely disappointed by the digital gonorrhoea that was Outpost Infinity Siegen I prefer to remain at least somewhat sceptical. Still, I'll keep an eye on this.
I'll believe it when I see it.
I've followed some of the developer streams and the vision for this game is awesome. I don't doubt their passion, but I do have some doubts when it comes to how long it will take them to deliver (they're just two people, and as I understand it only one of them is doing the programming), and whether they'll be getting sufficient funds to keep focus on development for that long. For me, I'm going back and forth between "let's back it, they seem like good people trying to do something great," and "it looks like three years or more before there'll be enough there for me to really want to play it, so just wait and see if they pull it off or not."
When it comes to complex engineering, any time estimate given needs to be multiplied by three and add one extra month for every year for unforeseen hiccups.
@@Billy-bc8pk Aye. "Multiply by pi," has served me well for decades now, when it comes to estimates. I feel like I should add that the developer's not pretending this will be faster than it's likely to be. They seem pretty realistic that what they want to implement will take a long time to do, and that the planned early access release next year will be quite limited in scope.
If it's too good to be true.... Fingers crossed, but expectations in check.
It'd be made if you could also crossplay with VR! So each person can play they way they want and have a fkn amazing time! =D
so could a man be a little troll and blow up the ship or drive it into a planet?
I want to play Mac's Worth A Buy Simulator 2024!
Damn, this looks great. Please be good 🙏
Is there swivel chairs
yes
This looks interesting.
I hope I don't have to do all of the roles.
Needs a vr mode!
VR mode has already been unlocked in the Kickstarter campaign. That’s why all the screens are touch screens in the game currently.
@@GamingWithGeo Sweet, sounds like my dream game then!
"nothing is cosmetic" unlike the actual show where 99+% of the visuals are cosmetic
So weak that they relied on actors to act instead of building a functional starship.
No, I mean the buttons, displays and tech talk are nonsensical. The creators were no science buffs, just storytellers.
Looks really interesting. I am more interested what it looks like when it is actually finished not any of the early access nonsense.
Can you customize your character on this demo?
Yes. Male/female, body, hair, uniform.
@@aldomir Do they actually call them genders or just the nonsense body type 1 & 2 stuff?
@@Billy-bc8pk as far as I recall you simply choose a male or female body and the face reflects that. I think you are given the option for masculine or feminine build but you of course just choose to change that or not.
@@aldomirok so just avoiding the issue better than nothing I guess
@@rphilipsgeekery4589 exactly. I guess the Devs figured they had to give people the choice to avoid any complaints from them small majority.
Thinking happy thoughts.
Not Star Trek, not Star Wars, not even Starship Troopers... just a regular Star Ship. That kind of works based on TNG schematics. It's the year of no one gives an F for IPs :)
So much promise! Check out Spacebourne 2 next please Mack.
Added my steam wishlist to keep an eye on potential games, but will be a least a year after launch i'd considering buying any game
same here that's what I do. Watch reviews, wait for a sale. No more pre-orders or buy on launch anymore for the past 5 years and I have no regrets
Highly technical games like this tend to get dumb-downed or never meet their true ambitions. Looks great, but hard to get excited as seen similar promises before not to mention it reminds me a lot of Pulsar: Lost Colony in presentation, UI and general feel. And that was.. ok, not a particularly great game. This seems to be aiming to be more ambitious. But with no proven track record, I certainly will not be backing it.
Wishlisted, and we'll see ...
I.....want......this......game..........Now!!!!😮
Space Station 14 already does all this, and it even has clowns
Holy shit that camera bob
It seems like the kind of project that could benefit from the Star Trek franchise supporting the developers with their IP - risk of course is that it then gets sucked into the eternal vacuum of monetisation and micro transactions. If only we lived in a world that saw a fun game with potential as liable to have good sales based on that fun, rather than trying to get a quick buck by utterly monetising a game to death.
That's why this game is free, with no monetisation except small ship to help fund development. Great games stay away from large companies.
Has potential for Space Station 13 type gameplay....not as deep at first but the potential is there. Watching this one.
I don't know. The game seems to have a very long way to go and it's too early to judge.
Wait so there is no "Press X" to take off, and "Press X" again to warp (loading screen) to your destination and finally "Press X" to land? 🤣
We will see...
So imagine satrfield had this in - It would've been at least 50% better than what Bethesda gave us.
Really looking forward to the full release of this. I love how every panel on the wall is useful and not just some gimicky decoration. It's showing promise so far.
My issue with the game is every footage I see the ship looks dead and empty . I can already play with empty ships in Stat Citizen. I'm needing to see the ship to seem alive .
Empty ships are old news for me . Occasionally i see a npc some reviewer is mentioning but the majority of it looks dead
