    This is the best thing to happen to long haul economy air travel in decades! I'm honestly baffled at some of the negative comments. Are you kidding me? You'd rather sit in a seat for 12 hours because you're worried about farts? Some people are such idiots. I guess evolution programs the majority of the population to be innovation-averse naysayers: resistant to and suspicious of all change, no matter how sensible. This concept has been implemented on trains for ages!!! Thank you Air NewZealand for making this great idea a reality in the sky as well! You have my business!

    • @RBHC1990
      @RBHC1990 2 роки тому +4

      Agreed with you. It's as though all the haters don't realise people already lie flat in business / that there is ambient flight noise everywhere / that you can use earplugs/earphones to block out noises etc. That's the beauty of this option: it's just that, an option. If you hate it so much, don't use it. If you want to pay for a 2-3hr block of sleep that you need during the flight you'll pay for the privilege. Or buy a Skycouch, or pay for business lie flat bed. People will always be negative about innovation, that's their loss.

    A round trip flight to New York and back is $2764 with Air New New Zealand and takes 21 hours, so this is great news that they're willing to give each passenger free time in the Skypod thingy. *A win for economy-class and consumers everywhere!*

    So people buy the tickets for economy seats. Then during the flight they can hire the pods for a slotted period, while their seats become unoccupied? Hmm (You leave your belongings at your original seat- I’d feel very insecure about that) Not to mention people only sleep when they feel secure and in comfortable setting. If you only have a certain amount of time on the clock to get comfy, try to sleep, sleep and finish off your sleep. You become worried and prob won’t get that good of a sleep. I’m not saying that it is not a good idea. I’m just trying to look at it from a different perspective and give a constructive criticism. I want air Nz to do well.

    • @rp7784
      @rp7784 Рік тому +1

      Because that would then make the aircraft too heavy.
      Aircrafts have a centre of gravity envelope that pilots and engineers must calculate before every flight.
      If there are a bunch of bunk beds in economy which is usually at the rear of the plane, the weight would throw the whole centre of gravity off and could be very dangerous for the stability of the aircraft and it's position whilst flying.
      It will also increase fuel usage due to increased drag and thus decrease the aircrafts range and efficiency. Meaning higher airfares to make up for those expenses.

    Not sure about the economics of this but I have flown back and forth the USA to Asia dozens of times in economy class. If the prices was reasonable, I would be willing to purchase a block of time in a sleeping pod, especially towards the end of the flight segment. For example, if I could pay $250 to book 3 hours in a pod towards the end of the flight I could easily sleep.

    great idea finally one airline that is thinking outside the box ! Non of the other airlines for over 40 years ever improved the seats specially in Economy. The problem will be there will be not enough pods to book. Ideally it would be having night flights where majority of the plane is only those pods. The airline would get for sure more bookings. I always look at a night flight and book that one first ! Then 2nd I check the type of the aircraft, airbus 380 my priority. So the airline that thinks ahead wins !

    Skynest certainly is an interesting concept and product. However, just a few questions about its practicability: (1). Can the passengers who book Skynest only lie flat throughout the entire flight? How about if they want to sit up? (2). How do they eat their in-flight meals and take their drinks? (3). Are there "seat belts" to fasten so passengers don't fall out from their flat beds accidently or during turbulence? Does anyone have the answers?

      @@sydneykiwi Thanks for your reply. However, does it also mean that for the same bed in a long haul flight, there could be multiple passengers sleeping on it? How does this work? Is it included with standard economy/premium economy tickets? Is it an optional add on? Or an upgrade?
    I highly doubt this is how it works... But it'd be interesting if, for long haul flights, they had an online booking system for economy passengers, where they each got 3-4hrs in a pod (first in best dressed regarding times) - That would mean for a 12hr flight, approx 24 people would get to experience it per 6 bed pod...
    I can imagine that would be a great incentive for people to fly with Air NZ, knowing they would be able to have a 3-4hr comfortable power nap... & Would also mean it gets recommended/talked about more, as their are obviously more bodies experiencing it...
    Just an idea ❤

      @@Yoyo-mh5oh oh a paper thin curtain huh, yea that'll stop ppl from being gross or doing untoward things to a sleeping passenger. What they should is stack em w/ an opening and a curtain @ the end & u slide in feet 1st, complete with overhead lights & air blowers like in normal seats, lot less unpleasant odors, no unwanted touching, & if u need something ya pop ya head out w/ above ur head grab bars on the outer part to slide yourself in & out, but obviously only ppl w/no disabilities are going to be able to do it,which will prompt lawsuits by disabled & larger flyers about not having sleep pods 4 them & then there will of course be no room for all types so after spending 10s of millions in research & development ,they will have to scrap the whole idea☹️😆 So it's a moot point & idea in the 1st place,but if they steal my design mentioned above & do not compensate me,u might have to be witness in lawsuit😁

    So do all economy class passengers have access to this or is it only those who paid a fee to make use of it? For those who did all pay a fee, if that is the case - do they rotate or have a time limit if there are more people signed up for than available beds? Where the shit is the belt/harness in case of turbulence? I mean, I like the idea a lot but just from this short clip I see some downfalls.

    If they use the term “product” less and talk more about it as a novel way to fly, I am sure more flyers will connect to it faster and easier and share their views and concerns. Easiest way to disconnect the customer from the concept is to term it as a ‘product’ and commodities it right from the inception. People know that they might have to spend more in initial adoption phase when it enters into reality but why do you want to alienate them in the beginning when you intend to get a traction?

    SOOOO many problems with this. The most obvious:
    - Claustrophobia and flying fear. A lot of people are afraid of flying. That's just the truth. Putting them in a cramped space with 5 other people will make this fear even worse and could lead to hysteric episodes
    - The person on the bottom bunk is not shown - this is because they are effectively lying on the floor, so anytime one of the 5 other guests walks past, they get dirt and dust kicked up from the floor into their bunk. Fun!
    - The smell. This many people crammed into a tight space with no ventilation would stink. I can't stand being cramped up next to ONE person on a plane, but 5 other people. No
    - No windows? One of the things that makes flying enjoyable is seeing the world outside. This doesn't allow any of that.
    - I'm a tall person (193cm), the thought of being crammed into one of these little beds terrifies me and this would be awfully uncomfortable. At least when I'm sat down in economy/coach I can sit on an aisle seat and stick my leg out there. I can't imagine being able to do the same on the top bunk, and kicking people in the face.

    I mean it's a good idea. It's not the payment that's the issue though, it's the amount of beds that will fit. I mean economy now is most likely 2-300 people so will it be enough? So if you don't get a bed your still stuck in an economy class seat? Will it be able to fit the plane? Airlines today are for profit unlike in the past it used to be for comfort and style. Pretty sure it's first come first serve. It's a great idea I just don't think it will fit 300 or so economy class passanger

      Unfortunately the 'Coffins' used by Air NZ in Business Premier is letting the their business product down especially on the B787-9 fleet. When introduced in 2004 it is innovative designed product but in the last years there is better Business Class seating product is around. It is a shame that Air NZ has caught up with the times especially when they introduced the B787s in 2014.
