One up is crazy, I flew from UK to Wellington and paid just $300 (per leg) at total of $1200 return. But as the flight from Shanghai didn’t have prem economy I was upgraded to business class, best flight ever!
I have two questions after your excellent video. Could you explain how and when you make your one up bid? Also, would you say premium economy seatingin like a 787 is like a La-Z-Boy lounger or more upright than that? TIA and great job!!
Thank you so much for watching! You can make a oneup upgrade bid after you book your flight - it's easiest if you have the AirNZ app :) You can do this via cash or if you have airports saved up you can use these. I would say the seat is similar to a lazy boy chair, but not as wide. It definitely reclines more than an economy seat - I found it very comfortable :)
Thank you very much for responding to my question. That answers things for me I did bid a one up, but it was rated average to weak on the meter. BTW, I like your music
@@sailordent Ahhh yes, that's the tricky part, is guessing how much to bid! I usually go a little higher than I want to haha. Thank you so much - I love choosing fun songs! ;)
Thanks for putting out this video. We're flying ANZ premium economy from San Fran to Auckland in March and I wanted to see first hand what it looked like and how comfortable it was! We thought about doing the One Up thing, but I'm the kind of person who needs the guarantee for the seat I want and not have to rely on a lottery of sorts. The peace of mind was worth the extra $$.
Oh you’re SO welcome! I’m happy this was helpful! I usually don’t like the risk either hehe, but it is definitely worth it! You won’t want to go back to economy hahah🤪
I'm very much like you, I like to know exactly what seat I'll be sitting in, what class, etc. I go to seatguru to also see the seat reviews. So while saving money is all good and dandy, things like OneUp lottery systems etc rarely work for me. They leave too much stuff to chance for me (like you) the peace of mind and surety is worth the extra $$$.
When I moved from NZ to London I used one up to upgrade both legs to Premium Economy. It was only about $300 extra but included another checked in bag, so it was extremely worth it. No one was sitting next to me on the flight and I was super comfortable while crying my eyes out. Highly recommend!
Hey Chloe! I'm flying this week in the same seat (27F) - just wondering if that seat had the same recline as the others in Premium Economy, with the wall behind you? Thanks!
Thanks for the videos! We are flying out of Vancouver in 2 weeks and taking skycouch to NZ and premium economy on the way back! As a 6ft person I think I will like premium better!
Great vid, thanks for putting this together. You were in the exact same seat I had already booked for my flight YVR-AKL tomorrow, good to get a visual on size and space!
Hi Chloe... does the one up only work with points or is it cash thing...? Im going from Melbourne or Brisbane to LAX. And if I want to do business are you suggesting get prem econ and bid for upgrade...? thanks in advance and appreciate the vid too :)
Hey Leigh!! That's what I would do - pay for premium economy and bid to upgrade to business :) You can either pay cash or use air points! Thanks for watching :D
Just got my first one up upgrade from Air NZ - we are doing the same route (YVR- AUK) for Christmas in NZ with my kiwi partner. Looking forward to trying out the premium economy area & thank you for giving a sneak peek of what we can expect for it! I feel like I got a decent deal too.. $2000 pp for the ticket and $420 for the upgrade.
Oh that’s awesome!!! Yay I’m so excited for you to fly in a little more comfort than economy hehehe. Be sure to try the warm croissants if you’re on board for breakfast ;) thanks for watching!
Can you do the one up bid for two people/seats? I wanted to try the one up option but my wife's worried that one bid might go through and we'll be in different classes. (even though I would be the one stuck in economy😄). Thanks, hope you had a nice trip.
No I think if you're booked on the same itinerary, it forces you to do the upgrade for whoever is on that ticket. Me, my partner and his brother were booked together and the upgrade was for all 3 of us.@@Dave-ro3nj
This was a delightful video, but maybe I'm just a tad biased. That seat did look comfy and the very attentive service throughout the flight was definitely worth it. Thanks so much for sharing.
Chloe, thank you for the insightful video on Air New Zealand premium economy. I am gifting two friends a trip to Perth, AU and I am highly considering Air New Zealand. Definitely going with premium economy, and I’m wondering if I bid on an upgrade to business class with the One Up program, and it’s not accepted will amount I posted not be charged to my credit card? I went on their site, and it’s a bit vague on my question. Thank you in advance!
Hey Darryl!! Thanks for watching! That’s exciting - they will love premium economy (or business if your bid is accepted)! No they definitely don’t charge your card if your bid is unsuccessful 😀
I'm 6 foot, 2 inches tall and 230 pounds: economy doesn't work from me past LAX from Denver. Premium economy is the bare minimum I can do for international flights. I LOVE Air Canada and their upgrade bidding system. I've only flown them to 3 destinations, and gotten the upgrade twice on the return flight (including form Buenos Aires to Montreal).
Thanks for posting this. I flew SQ from Singapore down to NZ and found that the seats were uncomfortable after five hours, plus the loos were back in economy. Normally I fly Air New Zealand in PE and find the seats more comfortable. I'm flying your route tomorrow in reverse to Vancouver and beyond. Really miss the options for the Maple leaf lounge!
Ooo SQ business class? Or do they also have premium economy? Thank you so much for watching - I loved Air NZ premium economy! That’s exciting! You’ll no doubt be able to check out the air nz lounge in Auckland? Enjoy your trip!
You are SOO Good in doing your vlog, I'm doing Montreal-Vancouver in september, you think for a 5h30 flight 440$ is worth to upgrade to Business or 225$ for Premium Eco would be just as enjoyable? Thanks, and keep up the good work, also that is soo cool that you did that for your dad :)
Oh my gosh, if I were you I would definitely splash out for the business class upgrade! I did this same route in my air Canada video - you can take a look at how cool it was!! ;) and thank you so much for your kind words!
I'm 71 and the thought of sitting in economy class is putting me off visiting my daughter and grandchildren in London. The last time I went over was six years ago and the trip was pure torture. If I knew I could lie down and get some proper sleep I'd go. What plane were you on?
Aw I can imagine! My dad is the same age and he recently took a return flight in economy to the UK. It look a lot out of him, so I am determined to get him a better seat next time. I would highly recommend going for premium economy - it's a nice middle ground between economy and business / still quite pricey so I'd recommend the upgrade option. I believe this was a Boeing 787-9!
@@lindapark8467 No I haven't yet! But it's definitely on my list! It always seems to be around the same price as premium economy anyway, so I decided to opt for that.
I really liked premium economy on a recent trip to Auckland from Australia, it was pretty much like a domestic business class flight, but better. I don’t like the the business configuration on Air NZ if they change the seats I would like to try that as well. It’s also better than Cathay Pacific’s premium economy, imo.🤗
AirNZ has sunk a lot in the 20 years or so I've been flying. Economy from the US/CA has turned into a product similar to United Domestic with some microwave food thrown in. It's awful, and their upgrade price is exorbitant. Luckily there is some competition coming...hopefully that helps.
Great information in this video 😀just missing toilets one of the rhe main reasons i hate flying long haul i hate public toilets so much i try not to eat or drink if in out for hours .. so lucky having a row to yourself shame the arm rests were solid😢
Thank you! Yes, I didn't bother with showing the toilets this time around, as they were exactly the same as in my Air NZ Business Class video I had posted earlier. You can take a look at that if you're curious :) It was lovely to have a row to myself, but yes, same that I couldn't lay down!
It's just that an airline review isn't much help without identifying the aircraft type as they have multiple types of aircraft. So someone may see your review and be disappointed when they board and find their cabin is quite different because they've boarded an Air NZ Boeing 787 whereas yours was possibly done in an Air NZ Boeing 777. Quite different cabins. So you might like to keep that in mind if you do other airline reviews.@@chloeandludvig
Such a good point! I never thought of myself as a 'airline reviewer' as funny and that sounds - rather just vlogging my flight experiences for fun. But that makes total sense and if I can offer more information, that can only be a good thing! :)@@zaarpoool
