Kid you not Scott I watched this video went to a spot I havnt fished for years filled with grass pads basically frog city an first cast just practising your working the slack advice I caught a 3.5 lb largemouth not an Okeechobee giant but a big fish for new Hampshire the family fishing for hours couldn't believe it thanks for this video I've watched others an they don't compare to how well u explain this method an btw Scott Martin challenge is awesome the one you did with your dad was special brought back alot of good childhood memories
I like the video and know that often its a steady cadence but I have found over the years that a pause can bring explosive strikes as well so once the techniques is mastered switch up the retrieve.
I've heard that's great as well! But me being a Newby, wouldn't pausing your real kinda make the luer float unnaturally? Since it not being guided and all
Love the videos I've been fishing since I could walk. Caught a lot of bass using the walk the dog, definitely a proven technique. I've found that using a quick snap with it helps with the action too. Definitely A dream to get down to lake okeechobee and caught some of those giants.
Hi Scott......I am Scot with one t. (must have made mom angry when I was born to spell it Scot, I like it tho, it is different. I will receive a rod you designed tomorrow, it is a Okuma Scott Martin Concept Rod TCS-C731H 7' 3", HVY Cast. I cant wait to use it brother! Thank you for all of your info and input to fishing to help us other anglers to become better! Scot
Love it Scott. We have been catching allot of biggies on the lake with top waters this summer. Then lunch at the Tiki Bar of course. Hope to see you at the marina soon.
*Fun little bait great for ponds. This thing casts really well for its size, I was surprised. Good for when you need to downsize and gets smaller fish to commit*
I suck!. What's the trick with hook sets. I got a rythym that works great with whopper ploppers. Hardly miss a fish. Any pointers with a walk the dog style lure. Do I need to wait until I feel them?.
When a bass comes and explodes up on your frog, don't set the hook right away because you will just pull it right out. Resist the reaction and in your head count to 3 seconds so the bass has a chance to take it. Then set the hook really hard.
Thanks to you.. I learn this technique and caught a trevally today, However the way it moves doesn't look as good as yours.. Do you think is the wind affect the move too?
Being more familiar with spinning reels and getting accustomed to baitcasters, I find I get terrible birds nests with monofilament or fluorocarbon. So what I do is tie a long leader (2 or 3 times the length of the rod) with either Fluorocarbon or Monofilament for sake of discretion. What do you recommend for walking the dog: a rather stiffer leader or a very flexible one. Mind you, in my part of the world, there isn't a lot of bass so the main species we fish for here in France is either pike or big perch (these can go up to more than 4 pounds). For pike I often use a titanium leader or a 70/100 fluorocarbon leader: pike will bite though anything else. But I do have problems walking the dig with those. What is your advice?
+prevalain I think, because he talks of jerking the slack line a more flexible leader would be advisable. I use this technique for Asp (aspius aspius) in the Netherlands and I use more flexible line so that the lure can move in a more natural, free way across the water.
I usually use copolymer cxx 12#-15# but I will give a braided line a try. 50# is doable or thinner diameter will work better? What about the rod length and action? Thank for the tip.
It works if you don't let the line sink in the water, if you do a pause and the line sinks it will pull the nose of the bait down then it can be a pain to get it going again.
Hey guys Don't make fun of me but i have mono filament line on my bait caster 8lb test can i use that for top water? and crank baits? i got the Johnny Morris carbon lite reel
Does anyone have tips for walking a popper style bait here in ky bass really like a popper being walked i can walk a spook just fine but I struggle with the popper does anyone have any tips?
@@JimboSlice195 ye man I tried that today just cause atm I didnt have anything else tied on it works for like buzzbaits and jitterbug but baits u have to walk the dog on dont work
I have no idea how a right handed person can walk the dog with a right handed reel, my left hand can't coordinate with my right well enough to make this work, ugh. I can do it all day with a left handed reel which if you think about it is the correct side the handle should be on.
I'm primarily a trout angler who fly fishes and its amazing to me that lots of these warm water anglers have so many different types of retrieves.
Really appreciate these videos, learning things I was never taught when young. Really enjoying getting back in/on the water!
StuntDrivin4U awesome...thanks!
Thanks Scott
Thank you this best walking video I’ve seen so far.
No clue what the heck I'm doing but videos as clear and descriptive as this helps. Heading out a bit later today to practice
This was great my wife and I just started fishing
Most enjoyable hook up you can get. That top water smash is exhilarating and when they smack in the air…. Oh boy

Awesome video Scott! Thank you.
Thaaanks!!
My idol Scott Martin is a genius the best fisherman out there above all pro fisherman

Lake Okeechobee has been "off the hook!"

Thx Scott good tip
are you using a leader line with that braid?
Thanks man helped out and great video
ian klinger your welcome!!
Ricky Bobby spittin facts
Scott can you do a video on how to hook a bass with a topwater frog because I can't seem to do it.
When a bass comes and explodes up on your frog, don't set the hook right away because you will just pull it right out. Resist the reaction and in your head count to 3 seconds so the bass has a chance to take it. Then set the hook really hard.
Thanks
What do you consider warm water
Thank you for this !!!!!
You're welcome
When you put on a stick bait ie (worm) trailing a spinner trailer, how are you working it like a worm or more like a skinny dipper or easy swimmer ?
Thanks to you.. I learn this technique and caught a trevally today, However the way it moves doesn't look as good as yours.. Do you think is the wind affect the move too?

Alexander711 Thank you for your kind response. Do you use a specific rod?
i have an question i have an walking bait and when i dont move it it gets on its side does that happens
to walking baits useally or no
How do I know what kind of line my pole has on it? Whats the difference and how to tell?
Can you tell me what your rod set up is? Thanks
how do you feel about pline cxx for top water? I use pline cxx for my big swimbaits
I know this is an older video, but what set up do you use for this technique? Rod reel?
would a spinning rod work well with this technique?
Sure, but it won't put you in to the "In Crowd."
Robert Cornelius been about 4 years since this comment i have about 10 bait casters from DC’s, metaniums, and steez reels lol
good video. god has gave you a blessing
Which of the tics rods are you using?
I usually use copolymer cxx 12#-15# but I will give a braided line a try. 50# is doable or thinner diameter will work better? What about the rod length and action? Thank for the tip.
Just curious...why can't you use Flouro?
It sinks…
I use fluorocarbon no problem. Caught many fish off a Rapala skitterwalk
It works if you don't let the line sink in the water, if you do a pause and the line sinks it will pull the nose of the bait down then it can be a pain to get it going again.
@@MLCAgaming agreed, u can use fluro for anything top water that doesnt have to walk the dog and is a strait retrieve like a buzzbait
what type of knot do you use for walking style baits
I hear a lot of bass fisherman use palomar knots more often than not
whatever knot you like that works
do you need a heavy line just like you need for a popper? what line lbs do you recommend and what type of ride? moderate action?
Really Good Video...Very informative...Did you connect the Lure directly to your braided Line?
Scott, same technique applies to frogs??
yes
most of the time
Hey guys Don't make fun of me but i have mono filament line on my bait caster 8lb test can i use that for top water? and crank baits? i got the Johnny Morris carbon lite reel
yes you can, I have
Could u tell me the name of your bait?
thats right
I wish you had explained why not fluorocarbon line ...
medium fast action rod?
Justin Turner Medium -Medium Heavy. I’ve seen more people say medium heavy but personally I like medium.
Idk what you talking Flouro Works fine for me
I use a Fluoro Leader And i have no problem at all
why can't I use flouro tho?
SOFLOHOOKER flourocarbon sinks the nose of the bait down, hence making it hard to walk.
Does anyone have tips for walking a popper style bait here in ky bass really like a popper being walked i can walk a spook just fine but I struggle with the popper does anyone have any tips?
You never see these guys land a fish on a tutorial
Yeah because he wants to show not go all out on fishing
It probably happens but doesnt get uploaded
Dude,if you watch enough of these videos, you'll see all kinds of catches during a demonstration... especially on jigs for some reason lol
Why mono and not fluorocarbon
floro sinks
fluorocarbon sinks, wouldn't really make sense to have sinking line of something that floats
@@JimboSlice195 ye man I tried that today just cause atm I didnt have anything else tied on it works for like buzzbaits and jitterbug but baits u have to walk the dog on dont work
Twitch on slack line got it
funny how you throw the lure with right hand and reel with right hand.
I've been doing it for years.
I have no idea how a right handed person can walk the dog with a right handed reel, my left hand can't coordinate with my right well enough to make this work, ugh. I can do it all day with a left handed reel which if you think about it is the correct side the handle should be on.
I get it to move left to right...just a little too violent
Topwater :)
Instructions unclear. My dog is now stuck in a pond.
Why can't you use flouro
Fluorocarbon sinks
It's a sinking line and drags the bait under, ruining the action
SUBD
wtf where my comment go? ffs.
Man cant catch a fish from his mother
Obviously it don't work u didn't catch any
It was a joke ... lighten up douche
He only did a couple of casts
And trust me it does work
I know I was joking bro ...no hate here
