    Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.

    Thanks for the tips. I was wondering what I was doing wrong with topwaters, usually just vary my retrieve speed and jerk the rod. I'm gonna try this next time I got out fishing.

    Having fished multiple s in different sizes and colors, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 this is by far my favorite. One thing to be aware of is the sided willow blade. One side is silver and the other is the green/orange shown. This is not bad, just unconventional. In terms of fishing, I have found the lure works just fine without a tail like a craw or shad. That addition is up to you. Also, the hook part where you attach the swivel snap or tie the line is a problem on baits these days, since it's able to slide up and down. However this lure seems to be tight enough that that doesn't happen often, and you can solve it by putting a thin slice of medical tube over the hook before attaching the line. Like others have said, it's really magic on a good windy day.

    What's the best color you think for clean clear water? I have the same exact lure you mentioned and showed it's clear..with a bit of pink blue highlight...I've only used it a few times I don't have much topwater experience..but I'm fishing big rocky reservoirs lately...it gets tough...I'm wondering if I should paint the thing black...or if clear is better

    Does the 65lb braid work better on a baitcaster for chunking topwaters? I fish alot of saltwater since in live a couple of blocks from Laguna Madre in Corpus. I'm thinking of trying heavier braid on my Curado to see if it works better than 30lb braid

    • @marcusyoung2870
      @marcusyoung2870 6 років тому

      Most people use 30-40lb braid to a 15-20lb mono leader for topwater. The main thing is getting a round, smoother 8 carrier braid because it will cast better. 4 carrier braids are better if you are in thick weeds because the rougher 4 carrier cuts the weeds better.

    • @Wired2Fish

      Yes sir. We often rig topwater rods with braid and a short 20-inch section of heavier monofilament line to keep the lure from cutting back and catching the braided line.

    what Line Connector Knot do you use for your braid to mono Leader?

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  8 років тому

      I think I just used a uni to uni knot since the leader is short. If I have a long leader I use a modified albright (or alberto) knot cause it goes through guides better but whatever knot you use with 65-pound braid it's big. So not really good to try to cast it through guides. Thanks for watching - Jason

    • @matthewlucas7796
      @matthewlucas7796 7 років тому +1

      The FG knot is the thinnest, and strongest braid to leader knot there is. Takes some time to learn but it is the best and they don't take too long anymore.

    • @mikebusmc88
      @mikebusmc88 6 років тому +1

      I agree....the alberto knot works and no problem going thru normal sized guide, can be a problem for the micro guides.
      Good info...

    • @kushairiroslei
      @kushairiroslei 6 років тому

      Matthew Lucas you cant tie fg knot to 15lbs mono which is very thin in diameter. Fg works better for fluoro.

    You didn't tell about the reel is it 6.6in or the 8.1in

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  7 років тому

      8.1 gear ratio. I always use the fastest reel I can with topwaters because most of the time I want to be able to get the line tight quick.

    • @tko9753
      @tko9753 7 років тому

      Wired2Fish actually I tried to apply "walk the dog action" but it didn't work, I use Stradic 4000 Shimano (spinning reel with 6.2:1 ratio) and I use fluorocarbon as a leader and fast action rod
      What do you think is the problem? My gear or my skill?

    • @Rob-tl9md
      @Rob-tl9md 6 років тому

      spinning reel. use a baitcaster.

    • @2DaNub
      @2DaNub 6 років тому +1

      @@tko9753 your gear is completely wrong to be fishing top water baits, let alone "walk the dog" baits. First, you need to be using a baitcaster to fish these types of top water lures. I can't even imagine trying to walk the dog with a spinning setup, let alone with a 4000 size reel. Next, using a fluoro as your leader is simply the wrong type of line to use with top water lures. Fluoro will kill the action of your bait and I suspect that is why you are unable to "walk the dog". Also, you didn't mention anything about the specs of the rod you were using. I have a feeling the rod you used is also far from ideal to be walking the dog. I suggest you do some research on the characteristics and advantages/disadvantages to using the various types of line (fluoro, braid, mono, etc.), as well as what types of rods/reels to be using for various techniques. Each piece of gear has it's place and time to be used, and when used improperly, will severely affect your ability to fish certain baits the way they are intended to be fished. You're doing the right thing by watching youtube videos. There is a plethora of information on the internet, and you should use it to your advantage since knowledge is power, especially in fishing! Good luck!

    • @mitchg8797
      @mitchg8797 4 роки тому

      @@tko9753 you can definitely use a spinning reel for a spook but not a fluro leader, it sinks and inhibits the action of any topwater lure by pulling the nose down. Switch to a mono leader. Personally I fish my spooks on a size 4500 spinning reel with 20lb braid to a 12 to 15lb mono leader and a medium heavy power fast action graphite rod. A correctly balanced spinning set up has way longer casting distance than a bait casting set up even with ceramic bearings. The advantage of a baitcaster is being able to thumb the line for extremely accurate casts. You can kind of counter this with a bigger spool on a spinning reel and grabbing that to do the same but it's so much easier to do on a bait caster.

    You fish the Megadog on a 6’9” rod! Of course you don’t. You don’t hit the boat with that 7’8” rod because you adapt. Knowing that, why would you want to use a short rod to make long casts? You don’t. 😂

    • @mitchg8797

      Consider the fact that lots of guys that bass fish a lot also fish tournaments so losing a fish to line breaking is a big deal and easy to issue to eliminate. Also most topwater rod setups are a set up to fish hollow body frogs as well as spooks where the line gets a lot of abrasion due to the heavy cover people cast the lure into so stronger line makes a lot of sense.

    • @chrisscurry6091
      @chrisscurry6091 4 роки тому

      You use 50 lb + braid on topwater down south . Hydrilla , lillies, & thick mats grow year round down here. The heavy line is for yanking 6 ,7 , 10 lb fish out of that thick stuff before they can wrap you up in it. I've had Bass snap 20 , 30 # braid like it was nothing bye wrapping up in the thick matts. You need that line for that

      Marcus Young nope. With 3 treble hooks of a fish swiped at it, it should hook right up. I never had 3 stroke with no hookup even if the fish is extremely undersize.
