    WOW, looks like they gave you the parts from the bottom of the barrel. I just watched another video of a Minarelli unboxing from California Motorbikes and everything was perfect. Hope it turned out well.

      Yeah. This was the first of first to order this engine and just like anything, it takes a bit of time to iron out things. The quality now is pretty dang good, but their machine work on these first engines were not that great. lol. Thanks for watching.

    Once you clean everything up, my advice is to check your ring end gaps, and check your piston to cylinder clearance. Running them too tight is what causes "cold seizures" A balanced crank and careful assembly should get you a nice engine cheaply

      I know, right. Its cool that Cali Motors has made a $200 minarelli, no matter how successful it was or not, but thats scary at the same time, cause now you have beginner kids starting out with engines that are downright dangerous if you dont know what youre doing.

    Those spacers may be banged up, but that's what gaskets are for. Unless there's massive grooves or deep scratches, it should still work fine. I highly recommend porting the cylinder, matching ports etc.

      First of all, despite what I have previously said in any of my videos, I congratulate CMB for making a product that is so good for such a low price point and im truly grateful. However, the Minarelli engine carries a powerful name for good reason. While a low revving, reliability-oriented chinadoll doesn't require anything special, a powerful engine such as the minarelli requires not only precision, but good quality parts. While you can pretty easily slap a minarelli cylinder on a motorized bike case, certain modifications are NECESSARY for the minarelli converted engine to run correctly. Granted, CMB did an exceptional job with this engine, but they advertise it as a COMPLETE engine and while this is true, they forgot to mention that the engine has a 95% chance of shredding itself within the first couple of rides because there is metal dust on the inside of the cylinder. To resolve this, at minimum, the cylinder needs a thorough honing and a chemical bath before installation. However, while honing and chemical bath keeps the engine from literally blowing up, mods (such as: balanced crank, better bearings, upgraded clutch, etc) need to be made in order for the engine to run correctly, or else the engine also has a likelyhood of failing. Not that this is a bad engine, but unlike the engines from Smolik, RDM, DLH, Don Butler, etc, this engine does indeed needs a few essential touches.
      Not that California did a bad job, (infact, they hit the nail directly on the head for making a powerhouse of an engine for cheap and only requires elbow grease to get comparable results to that of an $800 engine), but I bought this engine and started this series to not only get a budget taste of a minarelli power, but to dissect this little engine and help other (possibly novice) builders.

      Thanks. Pretty dope that I FINALLY have a minarelli, but MAN, its gonna need ALOT of work. Balanced crank, new (better) bearings, new spacer, polish all the scratches and indents out of the intake, and upgrade clutch, just to name a few. I have NO issues doing this stuff to better inform the manufacturer as well as new builders, but DANG

    • @a.m.bgarage.everydayprojec9665
      @a.m.bgarage.everydayprojec9665  7 місяців тому

      if you are talking about the standard chinadoll kits, the best place to get your stuff would be California Motoribikes (www.californiamotorbikes.com/shop) with their best engine being the Avenger 85 (www.californiamotorbikes.com/product-page/wildcat-85cc-engine-kit), but they have some cheaper options like the Wildcat PK80 (www.californiamotorbikes.com/product-page/2018-wildcat-80cc-motorized-bike-kit-150mpg-35mph)
      However, if you are wanting a minarelli, It completely depends on your skill level. If you have enough skill to modify some of the parts, balance your crank, port, etc, you can use the California Motorbikes Minarelli engine (www.ebay.com/itm/134769082713), which is a bit cheaper than what you could get all the parts separately. However, even though this engine is advertised as a "complete engine," youll ABSOLUTELY NEED to balance the crank, hone the cylinder (make sure you clean it really well), and port match the transfer ports of the case with the cylinder (optional).
      However, if you want the engine to be completely ready to run without any work needed, the cheapest would be Southern Custom CC's minarelli (www.southerncustomcc.com/product-page/minarelli-hybrid-79cc-w-mz65-tuned-exhaust).

    Wait a minute, their website says their engines come with a one-piece trued/balanced crank, no? 🤔

    • @a.m.bgarage.everydayprojec9665
      @a.m.bgarage.everydayprojec9665  8 місяців тому +1

      You are correct. California motorbikes use a single piece crank, but while it has a better balance factor than most chinadoll engines, it is still not NEARLY of trued and balanced as what is even minimally satisfactory for a minarelli setup.

  • @thewaffle3945

    are minarelli engines rlly that good had for 3 months china doll and it runs but smthing broke in the exhaust no power at all but found for 190 dolars minarelli 6HP with built pwk carb do u think its worth and will last maybe not forever but for many years than china engines?

    • @a.m.bgarage.everydayprojec9665
      @a.m.bgarage.everydayprojec9665  Місяць тому

      @@thewaffle3945 minarellis are amazing, but will only give you MANY more issues if you are un-skilled and you have a tight budget. Sure, you can buy a minarelli and a crappy exhaust for around $200, but those engines are not built correctly. A minarelli ABSOLUTELY REQUIRES a balanced crankshaft, properly honed and cleaned cylinder, port matched transfers, and the ring gap and squish gap need to be set. If any of these things are left unchecked, it can be catastrophic to the engine. The cheap minarelli engines on eBay or other sites do none of these (some claim they have "balanced cranks" but in fact do NOT) and is why a lot of those cheap minarelli engines are shredding themselves. Afternits all said and done, you are looking at over $300 for just the engine stuff. Not only do you need to do ALL THAT, but you need to deal with MUCH more maintenance, reliability issues, and you also NEED to upgrade a BUNCH of stuff on your bike as well.
      With that being said, I instead HIGHLY recommend getting an Avenger 85. Has a LOT more power, more torque than a minarelli, and a LOT more reliable and simpler/easier to maintain. Cheaper too. smolikperformance.com/products/avenger85-engine
      Can get the kit here: hybridpowerbikes.com/products/avenger-85-kit

      @a.m.bgarage.everydayprojec9665  10 місяців тому

      definitely. Though, im having doubts about how well itll seal, cause it doesnt have much meat contacting the case. Does yours work fine and do use use a custom gasket or gasket maker?

    • @minarellimitch
      @minarellimitch 10 місяців тому

      @a.m.bgarage.everydayprojec9665 it should have plenty of meat. It slips over the transfers and gives you more meat actually. I put ultra grey fuel resistant gasket maker on to help seal but the biggest thing is, does your case line up perfectly so it's a flat deck or is one side higher than the other. That'll affect its sealing. But if u look at how it's designed it adds meat so u can port it to the max.

    • @a.m.bgarage.everydayprojec9665
      @a.m.bgarage.everydayprojec9665  10 місяців тому

      Thanks. That helps alot. I definitely plan to port it. It looks like the case lines up almost perfectly, so that's good, and this crankshaft is VERY THICK, so it should definitely handle the power of a minarell and should act as a case stuffer almost.

      If you look at it this way, I was planning on building a minarelli from scratch and doing all the work anyway. The $200 I paid was actually less than to buy all the pieces separately for the cheapest I could find them.
      If you look at it from that point of view, its definitely worth it. Though, DEFINITELY not worth it if you're gonna treat it as a complete bolt-on engine straight out of the box.

      @@BIKELIFEAP Absolutely! I see people all the time hating about how sucky 2-strokes are, but the only people who say that either don't know how they work, has never riden one, or is just plane ignorant. lol
      You can be a 4-stroke engine builder by simply installing bolt-on parts, but a 2-stroke requires a LOT more engineering, precision, etc. But how else are you gonna squeeze 7, 12, 15hp and beyond in a tiny 49cc or 70cc engine? lol.
      My Predator 212 bike, even when running on alcohol with the timing advanced, a CVT, and dialed in carburetor, my minarelli comes somewhat close to it in terms of power and almost speed (until the CVT kicks in). Simply mind bogglign that an engine a third the size can keep up.

      I can usually tell if a crank is balanced by the side profile and holes of the crank, but the CMB cranks are SO thick I couldnt tell. Turns out it was not balanced correctly and I did go and got it balanced well enough for the minarelli. Now it runs like a beast.
