As a teen in high school. I loved to watch Eric and Craig run. Especially loved how the bottom of the jerseys would sway side to side as they ran faster. Loved that untucked look. Great days
Would have been a 3 headed monster in the backfield if Charles Wagoner from Dallas Carter who was in the same recruiting class hadn't had a career ending neck injury heard that he was better than both of them
I never heard about Charlie Wagner, but better than Dickerson? NO WAY! Reggie Dupard, the 3rd RB was pretty awesome also. He took over after both James and Dickerson went to the NFL, and Dupard himself eventually became an NFL 1st round draft pick. SMU was easily the best team in CFB in 1982. It's a shame how the voters ripped them off. As for.the "cheating", it's a shame SMU got the Death Penalty. They did the same thing as everyone else. There is just too much money in college football, and the ones who deserve the biggest paycheck are not even allowed a living allowance. I am glad times have changed, and these players are getting paid with NIL.
Lance McIlhenny is the winningest quarterback in school and Southwest Conference history, finishing with a career record of 34-5-1. In 1982, he led the conference in passing efficiency with a 133 rating.
Lance was so good at the pitch

I remember Charles Wagner just couldn’t think of his name until now you’re right he was a pretty good back.
Better than dickerson....yea ok
I remember Charles Wagoner. He was good. But in no way on God's green earth was he better than Eric Dickerson.

James & Dickerson were awesome.... best backfield money can buy.

Corey Pullig was on pace to beat it. But lost 4 games his Sr year. A&M went 42-2-1 in regular season from 91-94
SMU coming to the ACC is like winning a National for the Mustangs!
1982 SMU should have been Nat’l Champs.
Dickerson and James...The greatest running back duo that was, or ever will be, in the sport of football!
The ACC gets to come out to Dallas, Texas and play sports, that's awesome!
Nothing like a government official breaking the rules.
Besides the Pony Express the defense was the best in the nation and four of them went to the NFL!
yep russell and michael carter. ..rod jones...
Yeah, I remember all of this. Paid to play and got the 'death penalty'. Today? Paid to play.
The Mustangs should've gotten a piece of the National in 1982. But I knew the NCAA knew something was up. Because it never happened!
OMG, that PI against Arkie should be criminal. One of the worst calls I've ever seen. Maybe the worst.
I was at UT game!
That PI call was garbage. As much as I dislike Holtz, he was right.
Welcome the ACC SMU! I bet Benji Taylor made that happen. Benji went to SMU!
