It is crazy that Novacek wasn't remembered by everyone as I remembered him. I love that you made this video. The Cowboys were never as dominate after they lost him because he converted too many 3rd downs that extended drives, that lead to TDs, that over the course of a season added up to multiple game wins. No one ever made those up. One of the very best things in this video, is that it has so many great plays that aren't on highlight reels that really punctuate how dominate The Cowboys were during this period.
Novachek was also a really good run blocker for being so skinny. I was always astounded how well he could use his leverage to seal off DE's and LB's with his gangly self. He didn't get a lot of pancake blocks, but still managed to always get in the way of larger defenders
For those fans out there that DID NOT get to see this era of cowboy football, and you did not experience it in real time, the only word I could use to describe this era is MACHINE. this team from the Oline to the backs and receivers to the QB, they all worked in unison like a machine.. if you didn't witness it, then you really don't know.. they were THAT good..
@thelogicalcowboy hey I just wanted to encourage you to keep doing what you're doing.. you have great content, and you really put a lot of hard work into it... don't think it doesn't show in the final product, and we don't notice and appreciate it.. keep it goin man 👍👍
Everyone talks about Dallas drought like other teams havnt had droughts that long hell some teams never even been to s.b. and dallas has more championships then lot of teams. When we do get back to s.b. it'll make it that much more special
Remember so many games during this era, when the score at halftime would be 3 to 4 points, seemingly a close game. Cowboys get ball in second half, go down and score, then force a 3 and out, and go right back down and score again. What was a close game at halftime, was suddenly a 3 score lead midway through the third. Gawds, it was beautiful.
You are exactly right. You really can't find many comeback games from the 90s teams as they did not get in a whole often. However they get in a real deep one in the 1999 opener in Washington and pulled it out.
Novacek was such a smart savy sneaky blocker. This is in an era where TEs were an extra offensive linemen in most cases. He was long , lean but his blocking always was on point.
He was a master at the block by proximity. Meaning, by just getting in the way, and holding up a defender for the half second Emmitt needed. Jason Witten was a master at this, as well.
Jay Novacek and Doug Cosbie were guys that made big plays that weren't always touchdowns. I can't keep count of the number of times I saw those guys make a big catch that got a first down. A crucial first down that continued a drive that ended up with a touchdown.
This was Ernie Zampese second season as OC, he took over play calling for a SB team and got more out of a less talented team. Harper was gone to Tampa and they just plugged in Dion and Williams and never missed a beat. Seeing him in the booth with a cigarette in one hand and five pencils in the other always gave me confidence. If he were still here he would probably tell you this was his best work because he finally had all the tools he needed, that team was an OC's dream.
I remember this season well. Actually, we struggled much of season offensively. Troy, Irving, Smith and Novacek and the line had to really play. This season wasn't as easy as previous seasons, mainly due to the absence of Alvin Harper. But we were solid, mature and true professionals. We capitalized on other teams mistakes.
It is AMAZING to see how fast Emmitt was as a rookie. Might’ve been a 4.5 at the Combine but he definitely played faster in uniform! And, as always, great stuff, Brother.
Top quality production, as usual. Thank you! I wonder if there is a similar dominance from the 1977-79 Cowboys?? Staubach, Dorsett, Newhouse, Pearson, Hill, or some combination of them. It would be fun to see you analyze that quad…

Hey Logical Cowboy (LC for short), I am in tears remembering this magical season. Thank you for the trip back in time to when the Cowboys were the feared and respected team they were in the 95 season. The offense was certainly still unstoppable. Novacek was truly the the 4th, the quadruplet of the offense, and I could say Moose was the 5th, but he was mainly a solid blocker. I still have VCR tapes of the games from this season, and was able to record them. It was also the year we got a 3rd Superbowl victory in a 4 year span, a first at the time. As HOF worthy as the offense was, the defense from that whole era of the 90's is one of the key ingredients for that success as well. I guess you could call it Doomsday III. I would like to see a video from you with the stats and accomplishments of their defense from that era. Haley, Lett, Tolbert, Maryland, Edwards, Smith, Myles, Woodson, Brown, Bates, Marion. Right along with the success of the Offense, was the dominance of the Defense. Maybe not so much as the years past of Randy White, Too Tall, and Harvey Martin of Doomsday II, or Lilly, Pugh, Howley, Jordan, Green, Harris and Renfro from Doomsday I, but they were dominant in their own right as it had to be to make a Championship. I love all these names. I can see all their faces. I have watched many of these games. I am so happy that I can reach back in history and pull up actual video of the games I watched so many years ago. Technology is wonderful in that aspect. Keep the content coming LC, I'll watch it. Thank you for bringing the glory days back to mind.
Hell yeah, this season was my favorite. The Roster was filled with Hall of Famers. My favorite part was on MNF when Emmitt Broke single season rushing TD record 25 he scored 3 on MNF to set it. Great upload. Thank you.
On third or fourth down, or just needing clutch, if it was a pass, Aikman was looking for Novacek. From 92-95 Novacek was the absolute best tight end in the NFL. Perhaps the best in a four year span.
All these highlights kill me. For all you NFL fans, when your team is really good, milk it and enjoy the moment in its fullest. I have been waiting patiently since 1995, along with other Cowboys fans. I feel it will be awhile still.

I've always compared Emmitt to Green Bay's Jim Taylor more than anyone. Both of them could have been running on land mines they would still manage yardage. Warriors who make this game what it is/was/should be.
What's most amazing about this team is they were able to win a Super Bowl without a head coach. If Jones could have worked things out with Jimmy they probably would have won five in a row. Switzer had the title of head coach and that is about all you can say for him.
Man brother this brings back so many memories. That really was the golden years for us we will never have an experience like that again. Not just the Legends the stories and the super bowls our age had something to do with it too because we believed that this would continue. Thank you again for so much enjoyment that you have given us watching these videos and watching you grow excellent job
If you look at it, history I mean, we always had top of the line tight ends, another receiver back then that they didn't say anything about"Alvin Harper", a great complimentary receiver!!!
I knew as a sixth grader in 96 that we were in trouble when Novacek retired because of his back after the Super Bowl. He could get those underneath passes and beat any linebacker to the ball. I knew that with Irvin suspended for the first part of the season that Kevin Williams was never a number two receiver. It would have been Jimmy Smith if he had not been cut medically after having his appendix rupture before the 1993 season. Jimmy Smith would have won that 3rd receiver spot, but Kevin Williams couldn't produce as reciever and was off the team after that year in 96 in free agency. It's a crime that Novacek has never been considered in the hall of fame discussion. Got pro bowls from 91 to 95 and 3 Super Bowl rings and 2 Super Bowl touchdowns. This guy produced when it came playoff time.
I wish they would put madden and these other announcers in the madden games instead of the ones they have now, never forget hearing madden announce games growing up, not the same anymore
Man I had a long comment but I erased it to keep it as short as I could. I've been a Cowboy's fan my whole life (since I was 3 and now I'm 53). During Aikman and The Boys' time, I used to wonder how other fans felt about their teams while they were on those long, year by year losing streaks. I never imagined that I would be one of those fans, having the Cowboys as my squad. It doesn't seem real. Times have changed, along with the people. I just shake my head slowly from left to right.
Novacek was the key to this offense. One of the unsung heroes was Calvin Martin playing from the slot and making big catches. By far my favorite Dallas offense, but it was all about the Great Wall of Dallas!!
I'm so glad you have made this effort to highlight Jay's role in this team. I have for years tried to tell people how important he was. Troy and Jay seemed to be in sync all of the time and as you point out, teams covered Smith and Irvin and Troy would find Jay who hardly ever dropped a pass. Great job.
That ‘95 team was great, that said I’ve always felt that with Alvin Harper’s departure in free agency the offense just wasn’t near as explosive as it had been in prior seasons. No matter how hard they tried, Dallas just couldn’t replace his deep threat, potential to score from anywhere, ability until it was too late. He just really gave a different dynamic and some juice to the offense. He’d be quiet all game, and then BOOM!, he’d catch a 40 yard TD from Aikman and break the back of a defense. One other note, that block by Emmitt Smith at 6:43, that’s a microcosm of why the Cowboys were so dominant during that era. I remember Emmitt doing that on a regular basis during his career. His blocking was simply incredible. Which is all the more remarkable when you consider that Emmitt wasn’t the biggest guy and was probably giving up 50 lbs and 4 or 5 inches on blitzing linebackers. When your perennial All-Pro RB is laying it on line like that, that’s what you call team football. One last comment. To me Novacek is a prime example of how many times in order to have a successful NFL career you really have to be in the right situation. Before he came to Dallas he was just a guy for the Cardinals. For Dallas, in that offense, with that coaching, with Aikman throwing him the ball, he was an All-Pro. Makes you wonder sometimes, how many other guys could’ve had more success with their NFL careers if they’d been in the right place?
I agree. They weren't as explosive without Harper. They were still the same in efficiency. But as you said that deep threat left with Harper. I thought Williams could have been that guy. People forget he ran one of the fastest 40 times ever. I guess his speed didn't transfer on to the field.
I always believed that there are nfl players who could have had great careers but were never heard of really bc they got drafted or traded to a terrible team or just not a good fit, I'm sure there's several out there
1105 . Is the difference between airman and duck . Airman looks right to the sideline ever so slightly to get the d to bite and comes back to the middle . Duck telegraphs his plays most of the time. Another great video. Hope you are doing great, and as always let’s win it all this year
the biggest blunder of Coach Switzer's career was allowing Troy to choose Jay successor. And Troy chose LaFleure when we could have gotten Tony Gonzales. We can only imagine.
One major correction. We did not secure home field advantage that season. The 49er's had home field, but they lost in the divisional round to the packers. That was a huge relief to us fans. We hadn't beaten the 49er's in the last 3 attempts up to that point, even with Dieon.
What's going on bro? Thanks for watching! 🙏 But if I can humbly correct you. In 95 Dallas had the best record in the NFC conference 12-4. The 49ers were 11-5. The 49ers ended up losing their last game to the Falcons on Christmas Eve. Dallas had to beat The Cardinals on Christmas day to clinch home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. If you want further confirmation here's what Wikipedia says... "Running back Emmitt Smith earned his fourth NFL rushing title and set a then-record 25 rushing touchdowns in a season against the Arizona Cardinals to secure home-field advantage throughout the playoffs." Again thanks for watching!
@@thelogicalcowboy Hmm. I stand corrected. Don't know why I remember it differently. I guess it's because the only thing we worried about were the 49er's. like I said, we hadn't beaten them since the '93 championship. But when the Packers upset the 49er's, we were so happy.
Wow I already put Emmit as a top 5 running all time I don't think enough people realize how great he was at blocking the blitz and other blocks along with his great pass catching. Did you see that blitz block then roll out for a pass and catch it for a long pick. I wonder if Barry would do that.
I’d forgotten just how similar Novacek and Doug Cosbie were. They even wore the same number. Cosbie had seasons better than Jay. Too bad he was one of the many injured in 1988. Mike Sherrard had a great rookie season after Dallas drafted him in the first round in 1986. Too bad he broke his leg 3 years in a row. He and Irvin would have been a GREAT combo. Others to miss time in 1988. Irvin, Tuinei, Ken Norton, Kelvin Edwards, Jeff Zimmerman, Timmy Newsome, Danny White, Victor Scott, Vince Albritton, and Bob White.
Another fantastic video, LC. Y'know, I'm an old-time Sooner fan, so I admittedly have a soft spot for Switzer. I just think he gets a lot more hate than he deserves among Cowboys fans because he was the next man up after Jimmy left. You don't win 3 national championships by being a bad head coach. BTW, I'm still waiting for that all-time 53-man roster vid! 😉
I agree. I have a high amount of respect for Coach Switzer. I'm in the works with a mini biography for Switzer. I hope you guys like it. I also haven't forgotten about the 53-man roster video. Got a little busy. Appreciate you bro.
Don’t forget about the Moose and the Wall of Dallas. It was actually unfair what the Cowboys had back in ‘95. If the flag is thrown in ‘94 Championship game, the Boys win 4 straight.
@michaeloneill1360 Cosby started to play Elite in 83 and make his mark, after that season Dallas wasn't good. They definitely didn't have a great team. That's why I didn't name him. But yeah Cosby is definitely an franchise legend! A very underrated player who played on some bad teams.
Novacek was clutch some of those games in 95 we wouldn’t have one without him that offensive line wasn’t as good as earlier 92-94 teams. Cowboys fell off because lafleur and bjornson weren’t replacements for his abilities they were busts
irvin’s injury in philly didn’t help. cowboys did not draft o line replacements we only had retreads and allen part of what parcells brought back o line and d line depth flozell doug free canty ratliff spears ware. and the tight end witten
I been watching the Dallas cowboy’s since I was 9 years old I’m 70 now that combination was what I called the best team ever assembled , but my favorite was when The cowboys got the cheerleaders I miss the team and era of the 60 Americas team.
I know the team I’m about to bring up isn’t even close but I’m 29, born in 94. The best time clock killing cowboys team I watched was the 2014 squad. Possibly my favorite team ever
Thats a major problem with us today! We dont make team stop us when we are doing somthing well, we try to use fakery instead , we also play a certain way all year and do well and do totally diff stuff when we hit the post season!
The difference is the giants were sorry asf that year and we crushed em!!! Sound familiar? But when we played the good teams, we won those too. SF beat us, but we beat KC, GB & Philly
I've commented on the 1995 Dallas Cowboys before and my opinion is still that if they don't sign Deion Sanders to not only join the team but to take him away from the Winers more importantly. But if he's not signed my Cowboys don't win, partake or even reach the Super Bowl. I'm not a Sanders promoter at all but he gave them not only his defensive abilities but adds another weapon as a wide receiver. They were a fragile shell of that 1992 team that was picked apart over three years I've learned that had Jimmy stayed the plan was to move on from Haley, save money for Norton, and the other defensive players who slipped away. Johnson felt that Haley's presence wasn't warranted anymore since they adopted through Charles.
Unless Jimmy’s there. Deion should have stayed in Atlanta. I’ll take the 35 players we lost over Deion ANY DAY!!! I think you’re right about Haley though. He’s gone after the 94 season. With his cap space and Deion’s Dallas is able to keep their key free agents. Really the only free agents Dallas HAD TO KEEP were Mark Stepnoski, Ken Norton and Jim Jeffcoat over that 94-95 timespan. Jimmy could re load the rest. Robert Jones would have been moved to LLB under Jimmy although he would have spent most of 94 as a backup and replaced Dixon Edwards on the strong side in that NFC championship game. Jimmy signed him in Miami and shifted him to the outside where he had his best season. I think Edwards leaves in 95 to Chicagoinstead of signing his one year tender in Dallas. Jimmy and Charles butted heads. Jimmy called him out on more than one occasion and Charles didn’t like it. I think Charles Demands a trade in 95 and threatens retirement. Jimmy sends him back home to Virginia to the Redskins for a player and some picks. Inter Division trades are rare but I had Ray Rhodes as the HC in DC in 95. Haley loved him. Jimmy traded with Gibbs for a DL starter in 89. I think that 95 Cowboys team dominates with Jimmy Smith opposite Irvin after Harper leaves.
This generation will never really know how great that team was. Troy, Emmitt, Michael, Jay and Moose were at the very top of their field during these years, even though they don't get their due now.
Damn, those were the days. Growing up in Mansfield (small town just south of Ft Worth) my high school girlfriends family had season tickets. So my broke @ss got to see them every home game from 92-95. It was an amazing time to be a Dallas fan. Hard to believe it’s been 30 years since those days but still remember like it was yesterday. Great memories.
Question to the fans: Do any of you miss old Texas Stadium? I know the old stadium was a dump, but Jerry World is a shopping mall, movie theater, sports bar and art gallery where games are played. There are no ghosts of football past living at AT&T. Thoughts?
Novacek was so clutch. I saw that tall lanky dude hurdle so many people. Very underrated player. He should at least be in the Cowboys ring of honor.
Definitely!
And a great pair of hands, hardly ever dropped a catch

A lot of the hate for the cowboys comes from how dominant they were. No fourth quarter last mins drives.late game field goals. Just beat downs.

Good post
I wish they would put madden and these other announcers in the madden games instead of the ones they have now, never forget hearing madden announce games growing up, not the same anymore
I agree
Mike ditka, Jackie Smith Billy Joel Dupree, Doug Crosby and Jason Witten, and now we have Ferguson!!! Great tight end history.
Legendary! Thank you for reminding us.
Hey, don't you dare forget Jay Saldi.
Great post!!!
Novacek was the key to this offense. One of the unsung heroes was Calvin Martin playing from the slot and making big catches. By far my favorite Dallas offense, but it was all about the Great Wall of Dallas!!
That's my Cowboys. Bingo bongo baby!
😂 😂
As great as they were, when Jay Novacek and Charles Haley had to retire was when the Dallas dynasty was done
Yep
I'm so glad you have made this effort to highlight Jay's role in this team. I have for years tried to tell people how important he was. Troy and Jay seemed to be in sync all of the time and as you point out, teams covered Smith and Irvin and Troy would find Jay who hardly ever dropped a pass. Great job.
Thanks for watching bro!
Love this channel . . .Great videos . . .
Thanks bro!
was a great time to be a cowboys fan
It truly was
That ‘95 team was great, that said I’ve always felt that with Alvin Harper’s departure in free agency the offense just wasn’t near as explosive as it had been in prior seasons.
I always believed that there are nfl players who could have had great careers but were never heard of really bc they got drafted or traded to a terrible team or just not a good fit, I'm sure there's several out there
Total domination. 🔵🤠
Legendary
This was legendary
Appreciate it 🙏
Great job on all your videos! Really enjoy watching your work.
Appreciate you!! Thanks for the support!!
You do good work man
Thanks vro!
1105 . Is the difference between airman and duck . Airman looks right to the sideline ever so slightly to get the d to bite and comes back to the middle . Duck telegraphs his plays most of the time. Another great video. Hope you are doing great, and as always let’s win it all this year
🙏 DC4life
Appreciate you bro
I've always said that Emmitt Smith should've won Mvp over Brett Favre that year
Exactly!
Unless you lived it, you really have no idea how good the 1992-95 Cowboys were.
Facts
This when truly the cowboys went downhill, not able to replace Jay Novacek along with not selecting Randy Moss
the biggest blunder of Coach Switzer's career was allowing Troy to choose Jay successor. And Troy chose LaFleure when we could have gotten Tony Gonzales. We can only imagine.
Unfortunately....95 was the last time we've been to the Super Bowl .
Fact: Novacek never played after 1995…and Dallas offense was never the same….and Troy Aikman has said as much
They were never the same!!
I remember him saying that
Thank you so much for this my brother!!!! Great memories!!! As always keep up the great work my brother!!!! Go Cowboys!!!
Appreciate you bro
Poetry in motion...This team clicked, firing on all cylinders...How 'bout them Cowboys‼️
Let's Go!!!! Cowboys
You al are forgetting the best offensive line in the N.F.L. PERIOD. THE BEST.
Aikmen was more of a head coach to that team than Switzer was. Barry Switzer has the pleasure of getting to wear Jimmy's 3rd Super Bowl Ring....
Jimmy Johnson had built such an incredible roster that by this time the water boy could have coached Dallas to a Super Bowl!
😂 😂
Great video, you should follow with the offensive line. Then, how 'bout 'dem boys on defense!
Thanks for the idea!
"Running back Emmitt Smith earned his fourth NFL rushing title and set a then-record 25 rushing touchdowns in a season against the Arizona Cardinals to secure home-field advantage throughout the playoffs."
Again thanks for watching!
@@thelogicalcowboy Hmm. I stand corrected. Don't know why I remember it differently. I guess it's because the only thing we worried about were the 49er's. like I said, we hadn't beaten them since the '93 championship. But when the Packers upset the 49er's, we were so happy.
@t-sports6773
I completely agree, bro! I think that the 92 season was more dominant. Appreciate you bro!
Those aren't random sound effects; those are the ACTUAL sounds an Aikman pass followed by a completion.
😂 😂 I love it bro!!!
Undersized, slow, and wide-open one yard past the line to gain. Jay Novacek. Does he belong in the Ring of Honor? I believe so, yes.
He sure does
Wow I already put Emmit as a top 5 running all time I don't think enough people realize how great he was at blocking the blitz and other blocks along with his great pass catching. Did you see that blitz block then roll out for a pass and catch it for a long pick. I wonder if Barry would do that.
Nope Sanders couldn't have done that on a good day.
The offense line was real reason they where good
I’d forgotten just how similar Novacek and Doug Cosbie were.
Texas Stadium should’ve never been torn down. Got a question for you Logical Cowboy, what happened to the Texas Stadium Kickoff music?
@thelogicalcowboy whether it comes Sooner (pun intended) or later, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait!
Don’t forget about the Moose and the Wall of Dallas. It was actually unfair what the Cowboys had back in ‘95. If the flag is thrown in ‘94 Championship game, the Boys win 4 straight.
Facts!
It's a Historical Fact: Every Great Cowboys Team from any Decade always had a Great Tight End!

1970s Depree,
1990s Novacek

Cosby started to play Elite in 83 and make his mark, after that season Dallas wasn't good. They definitely didn't have a great team. That's why I didn't name him. But yeah Cosby is definitely an franchise legend! A very underrated player who played on some bad teams.
The 95 season was payback for the 94.
It truly was.
Do a video about the 92 cowboys they had quintuplets aikman smith Irvin novacek and harper
Great idea
92 team, simply the best Cowboys team ever
@@davidhickey1830 Facts
Novacek was clutch some of those games in 95 we wouldn’t have one without him that offensive line wasn’t as good as earlier 92-94 teams. Cowboys fell off because lafleur and bjornson weren’t replacements for his abilities they were busts
Facts!!
irvin’s injury in philly didn’t help. cowboys did not draft o line replacements we only had retreads and allen part of what parcells brought back o line and d line depth flozell doug free canty ratliff spears ware. and the tight end witten
@@thelogicalcowboy As always man great stuff

That era was just bad all around. Enjoy the rest of your night bro!
@@thelogicalcowboy you too
Well Done! Man, I really liked watching this. Good Stuff !!
Jimmy Johnson's players overcame Jerry Jones and Jimmy's replacement Barry "Rich Kotite" Switzer.
I been watching the Dallas cowboy’s since I was 9 years old I’m 70 now that combination was what I called the best team ever assembled , but my favorite was when The cowboys got the cheerleaders I miss the team and era of the 60 Americas team.
60s were legendary!
When football was football and not political.
Exactly
Great video man, just found ur channel and as a cowboys fan, it’s awesome
Thanks bro!
Great team
They sure was. Thanks for watching.
I know the team I’m about to bring up isn’t even close but I’m 29, born in 94. The best time clock killing cowboys team I watched was the 2014 squad. Possibly my favorite team ever
Great video
Appreciate you! Thanks for watching!
Should have been named the quadruplets. Because of Novacek
The year they signed JN they also signed his teammate in Phoenix Rob Awalt this is before big time free agency it was called Plan B free agency
Facts
My man, lets not forget about the Moose???
Can't forget about the moose
DIDN'T THEY GET PRIME TIME SANDERS AFTER MLB SEASON ENDED???
Yep. But Arthroscopic surgery kept him sidelined up until week 9.
1992 team was better when they had alvin harper was a huge difference maker. So was ken norton jr.
I agree
Thats a major problem with us today! We dont make team stop us when we are doing somthing well, we try to use fakery instead , we also play a certain way all year and do well and do totally diff stuff when we hit the post season!
Facts
That was half a ton up front
They truly were lol
The difference is the giants were sorry asf that year and we crushed em!!! Sound familiar? But when we played the good teams, we won those too. SF beat us, but we beat KC, GB & Philly
Great point!!
They were a fragile shell of that 1992 team that was picked apart over three years
I've learned that had Jimmy stayed the plan was to move on from Haley, save money for Norton, and the other defensive players who slipped away.
Jimmy famously told Jones he was soft in the middle and replaced him with Norton in 93.
This generation will never really know how great that team was. Troy, Emmitt, Michael, Jay and Moose were at the very top of their field during these years, even though they don't get their due now.
They will know bro!
@@thelogicalcowboy they will know, thanks to you, brother. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for sharing your experience bro!! Loll
Question to the fans: Do any of you miss old Texas Stadium? I know the old stadium was a dump, but Jerry World is a shopping mall, movie theater, sports bar and art gallery where games are played.
There are no ghosts of football past living at AT&T.
Thoughts?
That is odd when you think about it. There's no nostalgic what so ever.
As a Cowboys fan, I love this video. But it's sad I have to go back to 1995 (almost 20 years) to relive Cowboys glory.
