This week I wanted to share my thoughts on Mark Robinson and the scandal that has unfolded in his run for governor.
Mark Robinson is a GOP candidate that pretty much follows party lines on issues as well as takes them to the extreme.
He’s faced lots of criticism for his comments on women, LGBT Community, race, and democrats in general.
On top of this scandal I talk about some troubling rhetoric that has swelled up even more in the Trump Vance campaign regarding immigrants from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East while curiously having nothing to say of people immigrating from Europe.

He doesn't spend most of his time crying about trans people or being cancelled so that puts him ahead of most comedians currently working.
God, that last part was so true it hurt. My grandmother came illegally to the US. And her children, first generation americans, have complained about "illegals". I was like "you guys KNOW Grandma wasn't legal. We all know she bought a birth certificate in NYC." "Yeah, but she just wanted a better life here and to escape the violence." And I just stare at them for a while, hoping it will sink in, then finally say, "yeah, like the immigrants coming today. They are exactly like Grandma, except a different color." It's infuriating.
I'm always surprised by the people who are so proud their parents or grandparents came with "10 dollars in their pockets and worked hard". Like, that literally means they came illegally. So you are proud of that but don't want that chance for other people??

same here Josh and Tim!, I look like a stereotypical devil(big, shaven head Irish dude) but I have been evangelizing about Josh for s year or more now, so funny, so smart, so on the pulse about the moment(the crazy moment) we are all in.
I genuinely tried to give Mark Robinson a chance "maybe the guy was hacked?" etc, but looking into it further he's...not a great guy.

My father is the child of Irish immigrants. He does not see that everything that Trump is saying about South and Central American immigrants is the exact same things that were said about his parents. He says "We should only let in the best and brightest". Oh, yeah, that means his late 20's, single, 5th grade educated father who got kicked out of Scotland because he has a seizure disorder and couldn't work in the mines would have never been allowed in this country. My dad is actively arguing that he should have never been born. How do I get that, one generation removed but he doesn't?
Irish and Italians got promoted to white when votes were needed to try to keep black/white segregation because you needed votes to try to keep Jim Crow and redlining in effect. Now, some people are still happy to be part of the team.
People seem to think they are better because they were born here or are legal. Just what do you think the indigenous people think of us? Not only did we steal their land but we changed the areas that they were from. Treated the worse in the USA are the indigenous!
My family is mostly Irish famine people. I know what that sign says. Thing is, Springfield OH was dying, desperate for workers, and small business owners, and population. The town welcomed the Haitian immigrants, who saved Springfield. Now outsiders encouraged by Vance of all people, are creating mayhem and danger for all of Springfield. I really enjoy the thought that goes into each of your performances. You are a true talent.

@@Verchiel_ Apparently Uncle Rukus uses the exact same handles for his parody account on pornsites, and for his official announcements on Twitter/X as lieutenant governor. Setting all of that up after the fact is almost impossible, and at the time those accounts were created it wouldn't have made any sense.

As a white guy, I warned a Latina friend about this all the time. Living in a white neighborhood, going to the same stores and businesses as your white neighbors do, and trying to have the same socio-political views as your white neighbors is eventually going to bring you to the realization you're not white, and they know all too well you're not, and when you need them to understand you and be on your side, you're going to have a very hard time finding yourself in them.

"The rhetoric you use around people is important." That statement should be a given and not a plea and a prayer. When Vance and Trump speak about immigrants, they specifically choose words that deny the inherent humanity, dignity, and worth of human beings. Thank you for saying it Josh and calling attention to it. Whenever people are referred to rhetorically as anything less than human beings, history shows scary things happen. Trump referred to these people as "vermin". Please vote in the upcoming election! Use your voice to promote dignity, humanity, and peace.

My dad's side of the family immigrated from Germany pre-WW1. Even though we are 6th/7th generation German-Americans, my family still has EXTREME deep rooted trauma from immigrating. They still have German recipes around the holidays, but if you even mention them being German they will deny it. "Don't be ridiculous. We aren't German, we're American." It's like they're afraid of the interment camps coming back any day now.
Americanization used to be pushed more culturally -- all the "[Proud to be XYZ]" parades and celebrations were active push-backs against the cultural message that without complete assimilation all immigrants were trash and would never be "true" Americans.
It's interesting to me that food culture seems to be the longest lingering ethnic memory across many different otherwise completely assimilated ethnic groups.

What's real crazy is when you are something like Italian or Greek, the second everyone darker than you is out of the room you find out real quick which ones still don't think you're part of the club.

As a person who is a mixing bowl of Italian Irish and Latin American, you hit home sir. Dead on the fear and worry I have when people say that about immigrants. When I AM an American by birth through my dad's side, but it's this crazy feeling of: I'm American just like you, why are you turning against me?

The way you weave politics and truths into absolutely hilarious comedy is amazing.
I am just a white guy from middle america, and about as conservative as you can get on most social issues. I genuinely cannot wrap my head around the idea that anyone (let alone a black man) could think hitler being in office would be better than this administration. Or any other American administration that has ever existed.
On the Vance thing, I hope folks understand that all he did was say the quiet part out loud. The law _never_ mattered. At all. That's why folks were primarily concerned if somebody _looked brown_ when declaring them an illegal immigrant.

When the world gives us crazy things to deal with, laughing at it helps a lot. A lot of doctors & nurses have a very dark sense of humor. Otherwise they'd have a total mental breakdown. I speak on that bcuz I was a nurse with experience in everything from pediatrics to criminally insane patients.

I guess I didn't make myself clear enough. I was arguing {a Black man who hates being a Black man} can be good, in the sense of capable of being self-critical. The problem of is that he is doing it without compassion. He is not trying to be self-critical to make positive changing (otherwise he would have done it politely in a way so his criticism can be better received). He is deriving pleasure by insulting others, and appealing to other people's negative desire of deriving pleasure by insulting others.
Now to your point about comedian can be as nasty and uncompassionate as he wants. I disagrees. Most complicated things in life are about tradeoff. Nasty/offensive but funny joke is a tradeoff between the bad of pushing culture to be more nasty/uncompassionate and the good of making people laugh. Dave Chapel of anti-trans jokes would statistically make his audience hold more anti-trans opinion statistically while also creating joys to people. 4chan neo-nazi making nazi jokes would make the subculture more racist while also creating joys to people. It is fundamentally a tradeoff. You can argue that in most cases in comedy, the pros of bring joy significantly outweight the minor increase of bad culture. That's fine. However, it is fundamentally a tradeoff of pros and cons, not a naive "nastiness in comedy can never be bad"

the last part about the rhetoric around immigrants is so important. whenever someone talks about their ancestors immigrating and then in the same breath berating people coming here now is mind-blowing to me. Everyone except the indigenous peoples were immigrants to the US!! Why do you think your family is different???

We are Bronx Italians. My brother was born in the fifties. He told me he would get beat up all the time by Irish guys. The Irish had emigrated before the Italians. When I grew up it was already different and my friends were who ever it didn’t matter to me or them.
Hell, there was even a time when German immigrants to the USA were the target of racism. Read the letter Benjamin Franklin wrote about the "Palatine Boors."

I have family who, when you point out how people talk about immigrants now is how they talked about our Irish family, they say "Well we came here legally." There's this disconnect between "Nuh-uh" and just acknowledging that we are talking about actual people.

When my father was growing up in Montreal, parks had signs saying "No dogs or Jews allowed". You can find the photographs of the same signs all over the United States and Canada where it's the Irish, the Italians, whoever people want to use to as targets.

It's been a long time since I seen a brother like you in the field. There are comedians I really enjoyed, but once they moved to the South they lost sight of the comedy that was a real insight like Carlin and got lost in the chronically online theme. And the people under him kinda went that route too.
