Oh, Seth. I love you so much. Thanks for accomplishing some very good comedic output about the incoming administration. But, it's so hard, in reality, to not be really depressed. Thanks for the laughs. They're needed!
It is situationally appropriate to feel depressed about our political context. I mention this because that type of depression is not the same as clinical depression that is caused by any number of types of imbalances within the individual. Talking about our situation helps me, instead of bottling it up, whereas when I was clinically depressed talking about it made it worse. We're rightly fearful for our world. For me it's important to remember that. We're not "crazy." Let us hold each other in compassion as we begin to forge our way to overcome this setback, let us not be imprisoned by our fears. Let us not obey in advance.
5:39 One reason why the fire hydrants weren't working is because of lack of pressure - the system wasn't designed or tested for the several large-scale fires across the city. When hundreds of fire hydrants were used at once, the water pressure dramatically decreased, and without pressure, the water didn't flow. Thankfully, the winds have calmed down that fixed and rotary wing aircraft can drop water and retardant, decreasing firefighters' reliance on hydrants. This has stabilized the pressure issue, allowing firefighters to effectively use hydrants again. I hope to God the wind stays calm. This was clearly a flaw in LA DWP's plan and strategy that NEEDS to be addressed, but it's not Bass', Newsom's, or Biden's fault. Trump is a reality TV personality who regularly instigates drama to maintain his political base's attention and support. He clearly doesn't know sh*t.
Exactly. Nobody could’ve ever imagined a catastrophe on this scale decades ago when they were building out the system. It was unthinkable. So shameful that so many people, most of them Republicans egged on by their cretinous “leader,” are trying to politicize this colossal tragedy to serve their own ends.
I live in Canada where horrible devastating wildfires are commonplace, unfortunately. Playing on people's distress and emotions in a devastating situation that was outside human control or city planning is despicable!! The Santa Ana winds were at sustained levels of 80 miles per hour with gusts up to 100 mph for hours and hours yesterday ,blowing embers impossibly fast and everywhere. I'm from Canada and know of what I speak as we deal with this kind of fire devastation every year and more and more frequently due to climate change. Like everywhere in the civilized world, urban streets have fire hydrants everywhere which are quite suitably designed for firefighters to fight a house fire or even 2-3 at once. There were literally hundreds of house and structure fires all going at once and there is no designed and installed fire mitigation systems or enough firefighters anywhere in the world that can handle hurricane force winds spreading fire everywhere at once! It is absolutely and dangerously stupid of people to express their opinions that not enough was being done and also wanting to blame every level of government without themselves having any expertise, experience, knowledge, etc., of what they are trying to accuse others of. These hurricane force wildfires blew up instantly and spread into the coastal cities surrounding the greater L.A. area that has not seen any rain in over 8 months and is in a semi-arid location of the southwest coast of the USA. It is mostly hot and dry there every day and the trees and brush dry out very quickly with no rain to keep them from becoming tinder fuel. People living in Australia know what that is like and around the world in warm and dry regions. Hell, even in northern climes we know how fast our forests dry out after a freezing winter and cool and wet Spring. What causes these supremely stupid and unwarranted responses are very influential but extremely low-knowledge liars like Donald Trump telling news reporters false stories about sweeping the floors of forests which does not exist! Anyone who understands how forests are and how they are managed know just how stupid and untrue this is. Also, the hills surrounding L.A. are covered in craggy bushes and scrub plants that really are not forests persay. There is tons more to point out with facts but it would take too long. Suffice it to say there isn't anything more that can be done to make any significant reduction in these hurricane force wildfires descending on Los Angeles as to what can be done about a hurricane driving on-shore from the Gulf of Mexico striking Tampa Bay, Florida. The wind is going do what it does and it is devastating. The cultists to Orange Jesus of Mara Lago cannot fathom these inconvenient truths so they bleat and belly ache because that's what the criminal dear leader would want them to do. Hey Donald, stop getting distracted by the California wildfires that are way beyond your scope of what you deceased brain can possibly handle. BTW Orange Jesus, Good neighbors like Canada have already been in the L.A. area for a couple of days with our aircraft, brave aircrews, and very experienced firefighters. Those orange/yellow aircraft you see skimming the ocean, scooping it up and dropping water on the leading edges of the fire are Canadian along with some of the helicopters. In fact, further aid was requested by U.S. gov't authorities today and we were prepared and standing by. A further 250 smoke-eatin' firefighters arrived in L.A. tonight ready to battle. Listen, you criminally convicted disgrace of a human being, turn your misplaced hate back on us as we have a long history of standing up to obnoxiuos bullies and leave the good folk of California alone. It's winter time and hockey season so strap on your skates, pick up a stick and come to any Canadian hockey rink of your choice and stand opposed. We can settle things our way without your invasion or your lies!!

Hearing Seth talk about how this is linked to climate change actually made me tear up. We are in such a crisis worldwide, but this is acknowledged so rarely that it was a relief to even hear the words. Please keep talking about the climate crisis!
There is so much disinformation about what were are facing here in LA amplified by Trump and his enablers. I live 3 blocks from the Van Norman reservoir which supplies most, if not all of LA City's water which comes from the Owens Valley and not the delta in Northern California. That reservoir is currently full. The real reason there were water shortages and low pressure was that the storage tanks and reservoirs "downstream" in LA's water system had been depleted. This was due to the initial and overwhelming demands made on the system by firefighters and by homeowners watering down their homes and yards as the fires rapidly spread. Our LADWP replenished these units and diverted water to critical areas as fast as they could. The real problem is that the president-elect knowingly spreads false information for his own agenda and for the sole purpose of attacking his opponents. His supporters only listen to his disinformation and don't want to listen to or believe anyone else. Like the incoming president, they don't care about what is really going on here.
Of course Trump doesn't know about making anything work; he produces nothing, merely puts his name on crap other people make and performs for the marks.
He would love to hurt California. In his last term he was angry with Oregon's governor and withheld federal relief from two Oregon towns to spite him. He refused to release billions in aid money to Puerto Rico for nearly 3 years after a deadly hurricane. He is petty and sadistic.

I live up in BC where our firefighters have learned the hard way how to battle these fires; every summer we deal with this :( glad us Canadians could help!
It is harder to navigate at low altitude, in a hellish landscape, using visual flight rules. If anything went just a little bit wrong, there would be no time to react, there would be a fire plane crash ON TOP OF the brush fires. those crews are brave! They have skills like airliner pilots, but the nerves of ultra light pilots.
@jamesturner2126 this is true. I was a quadcopter pilot for years until last year and that's one thing all pilots have in common is we like to find an altitude to fly at and stay with it so we're not flying into obstacles. Especially at night also They try get locked on an altitude and they stay there so they don't have a collision with another aircraft. Diving up and down is for fighter pilots. Even crop dusters get low.
@@SheilaR.08 They would not refill from the Ocean because it is SALT WATER. Salting the ground kills all the crops from EVER growing. The planes have to find fresh water and the lake has to be big enough for a fly by. A puddle will not do.

Back in late 2023, De Havilland announced they would begin manufacturing new DHC-515s, the updated model of the old Canadair CL-415 water bombers.
@@victoriabaker4400 Yes, more compassion for all is exactly what we need. More kind people and fewer bullies.✌🏽

Thanks for your perspective. The best antidote to disinformation. And please stay safe!

This comment belongs on corrections.
I'm retired meteorologist and this flying high not rain thing screams for CORRECTION now.
I see what you did there. 😂
Lots of love to Las Angeles, please pray for all who have ben affected by this unspeakable tragedy 😢
