how to use he:
step 1: get an a20 with the top gun
step 2 : load full he

ace is not easy with a20

So, um, yes. I have been playing this all wrong for god knows how long: I would look for the yellow spot on the tank and try to shoot the HE only there thinking that it is how it works!

You have to be carefull with obstacles yes, but it’s worth it if well used, trust me
I've heard rumors that Wargaming isn't planning on releasing it until late May or early June, but I've also heard the date May 15th tossed around. Will be in the next month for sure.
Kind of dangerous but pretty inconsequential in that situation, his team had 7 tanks opposition had 2 tanks. Even if his shot was blocked it could not affect the outcome of the match
Best explanation of HE EVER! I’m one of those that lost interest at lower tiers. As I have about 260 tanks now, I’m going to try the HE train again. Thanks and keep up the videos that explain a shell, or upgrade, etc. You and Martin D are the best out there at explaining things

My favourite HE derp machine was the old Cruiser II with the 3.7 inch howitzer. Terrible reload time, awful accuracy - but 280 average damage in Tier 3. And the gun looked small enough to be a Pom Pom, so a high health red light would pull out and empty his clip into me, expecting to take 40 damage in return. Nope - 280! Really funny moment when I pulled that trick on an unsuspecting Kenny! "WTF?"

When people drive t49, sometimes the feel like a kv2. When i drive my t49, i feel like this:
Also don't forget,, if a tank has 10 hp left and it's behind cover, try shooting the ground next to it and splash it.
Also if the enemy is capping the base and is at 99, try shooting it with HE
Thats a good habit to get in this game.
Hello fellow britsman another awesome video thanks for opening my eyes a little to HE. I think I've only ever used it on my kv2, isu-152 and su-152 I never use it in my other tanks cause I just don't have the skill required. Ps keep up the good work.
You can also use HE in other tanks by this tips
No.1: you can use HE by killing low HP tanks to save credits
No. 2: dont use HE on the KV2
when a tank is side hugging you
because when you are low HP your splash damage can kill you
I already done this once randomly
I had that experience but it was a little more complicated:
I was 1v1 against a t 32 Russian medium and I missed an he shell at 15 meters. Luckily I was on full hp, so while the t32 farmed me to 100 hp my gun finished loading. He was next to me trying to get under my gun, but I shot he right when his cupola was in my gun and I killed both of us XD. I didn’t want to risk the ap bouncing and a draw is much better than a loss XDXD
@@pastagang4165 That last thing you said is actually not true. Draw is actually counted as a loss to both teams. And it affects your win rate as if it were a lost game. Thats exactly why i do not understand why some people go for the draw when they have absolutely 0 chance of winning. Its just mean. Or probably lack of information.

BTW sk8 don't forgot u can splash he to your advantage under the tank and it's even more effective and efficient when you have a high caliber gun :)
Dominic Luna but in which scenario would u do it? Not sure if for example a deathstar would do more damage to an angled Maus by shooting under it than just shooting its turret ...

This video is certainly extremely well made, and will surely help the players who keeps spamming heat and not penning... Personally I carry more HE on tanks than Premium ammo on most tanks, even mediums... One of my E50M ace replays was used by Amaunet during a twister stream and even she made the comment how i carry very little heat and too much HE, that is not true... That is partly why I am at 5k ratings with only E50M

It's not always worth the gamble to use HE. It needs to be used with careful consideration.
Agree. When I see a low hitpoint target with no armor like a Grille or Leo, I switch to AP if its guaranteed to kill it. With HE you run the risk of hitting a wall, the gun or the tracks and not finishing it off. On the other hand if its a heavy on low hitpoints I use HE all day long.
YES in kv2 light tanks above 350 almost always get AP
@@pastagang4165 Actually no. Only KV2 Veterans know how to use HE even when the HP is higher than 300.
Also, idk why people with KV2 dont know how to one shot this days.

T82 WAS my fave HE farmer until the only decent gun it had was removed completely from the game. Sitting on Mines one shotting just about anything was a smile inducing exercise. RIP T82 you were fun while you lasted.
Great video on HE shells. I get told all the time HE is useless. I love using it and hitting those high rolls or ammo rack em. I think it's better when tracking people. Some may say AP is better but at least with HE you don't have to be too accurate.
Said he'd make this video during his last video (about the tier X chinese td), man of his word. Also thx for annihilating that deathstar, they need it. Also, being the t49 addict he is, had to expect a t49 in there, I am too though. Also those guys in m4s that spammed HE before 5.5, they have me several masteries.
One thing you missed that I thought you were going to talk about sk8. The premium hesh for the British mediums can sometimes bounce and do no damage at all. Informative video all the same mate.
One of my favorite tanks at any tier primarily because of its OP high explosive ammo is the Cent 7/1, a tier 9 British medium, which has HESH with a whopping 238mm of pen when using calibrated shells which does an average of 440 damage. This increases it DPM up to nearly 3K up from 2.3k with it’s base ammo.
Of course you won’t be able to use HESH all of the time, but when facing off against some lightly armored tanks or even heavily armored tanks when you can find their weak spots, you can absolutely burn them down from full HP to dead in just 4 shots in less than 40 seconds. Great tank! HESH is amazing!
Also the Smasher in tier 7 has HE with 94mm of pen and 960 alpha. Even if you don’t get a full roll every shot, you can still get about 3K DPM if you average 800 damage per shot which is definitely doable given that AP does 640 damage and HE does 960. The Smasher is like a KV2 but at tier 7 and with much higher DPM, better armor, and better speed and mobility.

These videos should pop up when new players start off the game in the bunker traning area. And also, for players who have lower "number of games" to win rate or damage ratio. No hate here for " those" players but its just that i have seen players with 20k to 30k and above games in their accounts with an average damage of 800 to 900. It could obviously mean that they are playing lower tiers more or anything else but educating players never hurt anybody, it only improves the gameplay and the standard of games, because lets be honest the standard of games is quite low.

I consider HE as a special purpose type shell. Against thin armoured tanks, I will use HE at that golden opportunity on sheilds of Grillie 15s and asses of most enemy tanks. I remember I used HEAT and HE shell for my PZ.IV A before 5.5. I remember finishing off a JagdPZ.I with just one HE shell.

Sk8, you forgot to mention that different guns have different HE damage increase ratio.
This is also important, because some guns (especially the smaller caliber guns) don't all have the monstrously large 50% damage increase that all the 152 mm guns have (except for the Kampfpanzer), but some do.
To anyone reading this: i recommend you take a closer look at the HE damage compared to the standard ammo damage done by any tank. As Sk8 said, the larger caliber guns tend to do massive HE damage. But what he didn't include in the video was that there are large caliber guns that don't have as much HE damage increase as the typical 152 mm guns.
For example, the Soviet IS series of tanks tend to mount 120-122 mm (large caliber) guns. But their HE only does 500 damage compared to their standard ammunition, which typically does 400-420 points of damage (only 25% increase).
Another example of how different the HE damage increase is to different guns, is the mid-tier 75 mm, Soviet 85 mm, and 90 mm guns. The 75 mm guns typically have 200 damage compared to their standard 160 (25% increase), the 90 mm guns typically do 270 damage compared to their standard 225 (20% increase), but the Soviet 85 mm guns do 300 compared to their 200 standard ammunition types (the only small caliber gun that has 50% HE damage increase).
Remember, tankers: always be aware of what your tank (and its gun) can really do. Those numbers and stats aren't just for show!

Another way to practice with je is a kv2. After going up every toer after tier vi, tanks start to become less vulnerable to he he shells in most cases. Sometimes u will get lucky to pen he with a 122 if the target is rock built
Love this video! Good guide! Although I have to say that for the past few updates or so I have just gotten splashed to death in my Maus and E-100.... These are just meds and heavies shooting me from across the map as I move... Guess aiming is overrated! xD
Most player doesn't know how HE(High Explosive) mechanic works. HE does help a lot in many situation such as you said in your video you can clear a low Hp(Hit Point) enemy tanks or to lower enemy's Hp that's sidescraping if you're using big caliber gun.

Don't shoot HE at it because you can kill your self in splash damage

Personally, I‘d like to know about the differnces between HE, HEP (High-Explosive-Plastic) and HESH. Maybe even a list of tanks with higher HE pen like the RU-251 ... just a suggestion for a vid

Hull armour (for example, the front of the 50 B) is meaningless when you have a weakly armoured turret - which must be exposed, whereas the hull can be hidden.
50 B has insane speed tho, for an autoloader heavy of that caliber

If I can't pen a tank in my Chieftain (hulldown 62 for ex) I just spam him with HESH. I can often times do 300 to a hulldown 62. that can make the difference at the end

Something I have found, in my personal experience, is that HE is WONDERFUL at popping treads in one shot. While is useful if that Leopard just jumped out to take some shots at your team, and you need him to hold still for a second while 5 other tanks take aim at him.

@@mblatnik8715 it depends on the enemy's armor and Caliber of your guns tbh. I had experience of shooting HE on maus front turret in mmy IS-7 and only doing like 129 damage.. Meanwhile in my Jageru, it does like 300+

Also, i have found a useful detail - shooting he at the bottom of the trees knock them down - this can used for fooling enemies and getting trees down quicker
I use them also when in a 1vs1 the enmy is behind a house and I’m on the other side of the same house, the enemy is a really low health but is completely covered by the house, I just shoot at the groud and in most cases the splash damage will get them killed
I'm new to the game. I need to push myself to use HE. I have been reluctant because of the embarrassing times I used it, didn't pen and did tiny amount of damage. But, now that I'm playing an SU-100 a lot I need to really get in the habit.
