I really liked that you pointed out that HE will splash more damage if shot under a tank, a lot of the time shooting under a tank can double the damage you would get from just splashing the hull. Very nicely done.. 👌 👍 😀
Honestly HE is kinda getting Soft-Nerfed with so many tanks with Spall Liners now, Since HE deals less dmg than AP on Spall liners.
I don't think it always does less.
Spall liner reduces 20%.
You need a tank, where the HE damgage is more than 20% higher than the AP, then it still does more dmg
@@wertbe1718 Not always especially on High Caliber guns, but guns like 215b Hesh deal like 420 - 440 on Spall
I would still use it anyways since you can damage more modules at once

RNG is a huge factor as well.
Once I was in a battle with my SU-152 against tier VIII tanks... Towards the end we were losing badly with a Tiger II charging me. I just loaded up HE to at least do some damage before I die basically turning in a bird's-eye view and hitting him for 998...
I had to watch that moment 3 times and had to look at the Tiger IIs armor profile on Blitzhangar to find out what happened... There's only one little spot on the Tiger IIs front that you can pen with high caliber HE... The gap on top of the front plate where the drivers vision ports are...

You should use HE with small caliber guns even more than large ones. With small caliber guns you are not trying to do damage you are "cooking" "preparing" your target even if you(or your team) are not planning to directly attack it just yet. (aim for tracks, trackwheels, commanders hatches.
What you are doing is creating some kind of disadvantage for your enemy - it could be damaged exterior modules, lost repair kits, forcing out of position. etc.
It all ads up specially against good players in high ranked games.
Agree especially when you're lower tier. If you have TD"s that are top tier you can help a lot by spotting targets for them, destroying their tracks so sitting ducks. And/or making them move out of cover.

I've just watch this video. And yes the HE shell works extremely well. I tried the HE shell with my M60 on any gray area with excellent results. Thanks for the video
Watched this so many times now and still I cannot get the high damage with these shells. Even when it shows it will penetrate I still get less than 100 damage.

Great useful video thanks meadsy kinda wished u’d gone it to aiming and sweet spots to shoot, I seem to struggle and have failed shots quite often which puts me off using he, would of loved to see you aiming at a waffle or a scorpion! With ap it’s easy if it’s red you won’t pen! With he the enemy tank is yellow does it pen the yellow bits or just splash?
With He or hesh the yellow bits on the armour will only generate splash damage. Aim for the parts of the armour without red on it to maximise damage, similar to solid shot and heat.
yellow only splash tho, no color is a full pen (full damage)

Every 152 mm enjoyer: if i see that thing is not orange, it's mean i can shoot it
Good video. The only thing you missed out was finishing off very low health, well armoured tanks with HE - because it's better to shoot HE for a guaranteed HE splash damage kill, than to shoot AP or APCR and risk wasting time with a bounced shot.

Once a time i can't see the tank because it was behind destroyed tank, i choose HE to splash it from the wall behind the enemy and it works, i won the game. :D

What is lookout area?
@@adishoogendorp4194 It's in the settings menu. It allows you to look around without having to turn your turret.
I mean, it's handy but it doesn't really warrant a video.
It's pretty self-explanatory.
Turn it on, look around using that so you don't need to turn your turret.
Isn't a necessity imo, but it can be handy for turretless tds so they don't end up turning their tank

You're right, it is self explanatory, the game even tells you about it, even so, many players don't seem to use it. Try playing a tank with slow turret traverse without using lookout, its terrible.
Now, If your fighting a heavy target (EX = Maus / IS's) and you only see red with your HE - HESH Then shoot under / Turret ring and it will most likely do 100-300 Damage. If you cant see the hull then shoot the under side of the turret (100-250 Damage) That's how i do it in 9.1. And NEVER shoot the upper side of the hull / turret, RED AREA'S, A tank's mantlet (Even if it's yellow. But on medium's and light's. It's ok). Most of all. You can shoot the under side of the hull (Under the ground of the tank). If you are a 152MM+ Gun then you can be able to do mostley 90-500+ Damage (Light / Medium tank's can go up to 100-670+ to my understanding).Track's are a easy target BUT dont be fooled as heavy and medium have STRONG / MEDIUM Track's so shoot the little gad between the hull and track and you can do a 50-290+ Damage and maybe a tracking shot. But it may be wrong.
it dont matter what shell i fire my rng is so bad the bullet either hits the dirt for no reason when fully aimed or when its an obvious spot for pen it goes somewhere it cant pen anyway or just completely out of the reticle

Happy made a video on HE. Shooting the bottom of a turret splashes more damage than shooting the top of a turret. Maybe that is not for all tanks.
Well if there is a slope right away at the front of the turret then it won't be effective much (ex. IS-7) but if there is the top of the hull right in front of the turret (ex. E-100) then it will be less effective.
Very Very valid point about HE
If you see a hull down or sidescraping tank, just spam them with HE, it makes them mad quite often.

I use he all the time, it's just so useful, especially splashing he on low hp tanks

if you gonna shoot very low hp tank and there are another tank stick with him, try to shoot where he can splash and deal damage to both of the tank
I got a double kill with my KV-2 like that.
When i was in my Kv2 I in one battle was just shooting HE at a hulldown T29 hatch dealing 300-400 dmg, his reaction was so fun 🤣
I've got terrible luck with HE and not for a lack of trying. I really want to utilise it but I always get low rolls. I'm not an expert, above 50% at least but I just can't get it to work. I'd be behind a medium with my heavy and still I get a low roll.
Did 1532 HP with one shot HESH in a 183 😁 that is addictive.
Not strictly HE but the HESH in the T49 is fun too.. 800+ if pens 3-500 splash damage if it doesn't 😁
Yesterday I researched Conqueror (tier 9)and dude, his HE pen. is so good and easy to pull off. I might stay on tier 9 for a while 😄 definitly my best sugestion for beguiners. Mediums,lights and paper armor destroyers will run from you like devil is chasing them,try it 😂
FV215b still has tons of HE pen still right? I think it has like 120mm and the British tanks have tons of HE pen.
@@billcipher8787 yeah it does but its way more fun going against tier 8 with that HE pen. Other british tans have lower pen,even the death star has lower,like 90 or somthing.
I once shot HE under a train car to kill an LTTB in an ISU-152. It somehow resulted in a 2700 damage ace
You can shot on the roof of the turret and the haul, its will be the same as shoting under the tank

Both of them have different play styles mate. You better consider if you would sacrifice armor or mobility.

i recomend to use HE when tanks are low hp and you dont want to risk bounce
Don’t use HE unless it’s a guaranteed pen. If you average out the damage when it doesn’t pen you will find you were better off using standard shells.
the idea is the enemy is in a position where you cant pen with standard ammo
I drop Amx30b in a crate, I can sell it for 7500 gold, i buy M4A1 Rev or I keep 30b
You forgot to mention the situation where a mobile lightly armored tank with low hp is waiting around a corner with low hp, waiting to derp you in a 1 vs 1. Most people doesnt know you can also kill them shooting the ground without even having them on your line of sight...
I mean like you often see at the end of the gane, when the last red is a grille or a light tank and they are trying to bait a shot or outmanouver you, and being very close to a building corner or just hiding until the time or base cap runs out...
I use and abuse it with my Smasher. 😊
The Grille is not high Alpha. Also HE does not always deal damage. It can be fully blocked.

Noob kid who just wants to do 'some' damage to the reds every shot. Doesn't care how much, just doing 'some' (actually, 'a little') is enough to satisfy him. He stopped using AP because he had a few shots bounce and now he's given up on AP.
27K battles, still dont know how to use HE. 49& player. I know about pen rates, & HE explodes on first object. Help very welcome

Still one of the least understood mechanic of the game, couldn't tell you how many rounds would've been won if they just knew how to use HE to splash tanks who were a sneeze away from dying,

Well i only use H,E on tanks that doesn't have much armour for example. Leopard 1 and Grille 15 or sheridan
Based on my experience HE is pretty useful in most cases just like what you said in video

[Edit] - also if i ran out of Premium shells to pen heavy armoured tank i use H,E because the hull roof only has 60-80mm of armour which us enough for H,E shell to damage and dealt decent or insane damage amount
- i still remember the day where i accidentally a mmo-rack IS-4 with H,E shell at early game which lead me get accused by enemy team that i was hackinf
Sheridan has spaced armor so HE can bounce though or deal splash damage only

I use HE on my Jageroo if
1. No shot on hulldown tanks
2. No armor tanks
3. Finishing off low HP tanks
P.s. I got hit on the hatch in my e3 from a Jageroo and the guy did 1200 damage

I penned a hull down E3 with HE in my Jageroo. It was on Middleburg map. The player didn’t expect it at all and I was surprised. I saw that week spot on a video once
