  • Very important last steps I forgot to mention: add a Satin Varnish!! I usually apply two coats, 24 hours after each other. For these specifically, I applied Vallejo Satin Varnish, followed by AK Ultramatte on everything except for the metallics.

    From an ork player located in France and playing but mostly painting for 25 years I have to say I saw all the guides out there on ork painting. Your approach is definitely one of the best and I enjoy the correct ratio pain vs model quality. Thanks for taking the time to release these video (It is a *bip* job on its own). Duncan of course can release ultra 16K model at the expense of mental insanity spending 10 hours per model.
    Keep on the good work! have fun man

    Been on a real Ork kick lately, totally agree with you about the 'get the squad up to a decent level as a whole' approach. I think Dana Howl talks a lot about 'always be finished' or something similar, and it's really a fresh way to look at things vs. the super close-up detail thing that Insta can encourage otherwise.

    Saw you on the Titans channel. I have to go back to it because I immediately stopped to check out your channel. Really enjoying it so far, great job! This is the best "table top plus" instructions I've seen. I got into the hobby end of 2nd Ed beginning of 3rd. I really love your advice for banners. I've always loved adding them but never tried the paper. I'll try it on my next 40k project. They add a charm and over the top aspect which I love with the grim dark setting of the game. Can't wait to see more; cheers!

    Really enjoyed watching your process…the final product looks great even without the final touches you plan to add. As a total newbie it gives me some good ideas how to proceed painting an Ork Combat Patrol as well as a couple of bosses and vehicles that I purchased or 3D printed to go along with them. This was much better than any step-by-step video I’ve seen where they paint a specific model…getting the base coat and flesh done on everything first really shows tremendous progress to help motivate continuing…where, as I’m currently doing, working on a single model for many hours I’ve been dreading opening my Combat Patrol because of the sheer number of models I’ll have to paint.

    You've convinced me to look for some new rust paint, I was convinced by a GW store employee to try Typhus Corrosion, and although I've found uses for it in basing, it just doesn't make the rust I want

    • @a.p.2356
      @a.p.2356 Рік тому +1

      I find that stuff works pretty well as a base coat to add texture to rust and/or mud, but it really doesn't resemble rust at all on it's own. It looks pretty good with some heavily thinned reds, oranges, and yellows splotted on top... or you can just use dirty down from the beginning and be done with it.

    So I've had Orks for a couple of years and had a general method laid out but this video got me thinking. I paint blood Axes, not goffs, I have some colours I use and paints I prefer so I didn't copy it exactly, but there's some great methods and shortcuts I hadn't thought of.
    It did make me wonder why I wasn't doing more with the airbrush now I have one. So I'm starting with my base colour, not black in this case but red brown. It's a rusty base colour for metals and, as I've found out from batch painting goblins for fantasy, a great base for green skin.
    I spray white over that and use gutrippa flesh contrast. Turns out the over spray from the white means I can contrast a bunch of other stuff which is less painful than regular brush painting.
    I then tried airbrushing the bases, oops there's overspray on the already brown boots and trousers. That's just dust now and I don't fix it.
    I batch painted 10 nobz, half with my old method as they'd been started. and half the new. They needed so much less work, and it's put a Rokkit under my arse in terms of motivation to paint.
    Are they perfect? Absolutely not, none of my Orks are. But they pass the 2 foot test.

Thankyou for the video, im late to the orktober party thanks to australia post but you best believe imma paint em up in this style. legend.

    • @billiondollarclownfarm
      @billiondollarclownfarm  Рік тому +1

      that's more or less it! since this video i've stream lined it a little, I think you can do whatever order you want. I typically just do iron warriors first these days with a little bit of bronze after, the most important part is that you apply multiple subtle layers that don't completely cover each other and leave a little bit of the previous layer underneath, so the metal looks complicated and like it's an actual material that's been damaged over time. Dirty Down Rust mixed with weathering powder is awesome too

    If you like a really bright, vibrant green skin tone, I've had great luck with the following:
    -Black base coat (I use really shitty rattlecan spray primer, it honestly work great)
    -White zenithal highlight (either rattlecan the entire model if you want to do contrast paints on the shirts and armor and stuff, or for models like meganobz with lots of armor, you can airbrush only the skin parts to leave a lot of the metal black)
    -Plaguebearer Flesh contrast paint over all of the skin
    -Biel Tan green wash over the skin
    You get a ton of variety in the skin tone, from a bright, green apple kinda color in the highlights, to a deep, almost black emerald green in the shadows and in the crevices. You can go through with Moot Green or something to do a bit of additional highlighting, or do the tan-ish highlighting like he does in this video, but it looks great on a big blob of boyz.
    If you do the whole model with the zenith highlighting step, it sets you up really well to do contrast paints on the clothing, too. For my boyz, I do a combo of Snakebite Leather, Wildwood, and Black Templar contrast paints on their shirts, pants, boots, and wrist cuffs. I try to do the boots and cuffs one color, the pants another, and the shirt a third, and then randomize that across the army. Then go through and paint the helmets, armor bits, and stuff like belt buckles in whatever clan color you want (I really like Yriel Yellow with a coat of Seraphim Sepia for Bad Moonz).

      If you mean where did the Warboss model come from it is the standard Warboss model (originally from the Warhammer 40k Assault on Black Reach box set) with its regular head replaced for what I believe is an icon snipped from banner pole from the Warhammer Fantasy/Age of Sigmar 'Ard Boyz kit.
      I'm not sure what you mean by 'what are all the nob and Boyz models?' They seem to mostly be 'the Nobz and Boyz' plastic kits (the older circa 1990's/early-2000's Boyz) with some of them maybe coming from the previously mentioned Assault on Black Reach set. All of those particular models were build to be push-fit.
