You mentioned an old Deff Dred kit, but this is actually the only plastic sprue to come out since the charming (if extremely fragile) metal kit of the olden days. Nice scheme and definitely "appeeared" more detailed in the thumbnail than the process seems, which is likely equivalent to a table-top birds eye view!
Oh, wow! The Def went together so well I wouldn't have guessed it was an older plastic kit! I've got some carnifexes from around that time that were a nightmare to build...
Another excellent video. I'm prone to going too far with the details on my models and now I'm trying to get more bang for my time bucks, so this was a useful tutorial.
The Ork CP always looked like a fun box to build and paint. So many unique sculpts and different textures you can really stretch your painting skills on. I got my first CP done last month with my Necrons, and its nice to have part of my army completed for a side game. Same thing for this month, once its over Ill have my first Killteam using my Necrons. I havent had the chance to play a CP game yet but hopefully I can get one in soon. Next year, starting in January, I'll be painting up the Votann box set from their army release, along with a unit of bersekz for their CP as well. Probably gonna take me a couple months to complete as Ill need to figure out the paint schemes for each unit, as well as any conversion work and figuring out my basing scheme as well. Im really looking forward to as I will be able to take a break from my year long paint challenge of my Necron Army thats going really well. Only 2 and half months to go and Im aiming for 1.5k more points by the end
@@thehammerofwrath Oh trust me Iv watched all of your videos from day one of your YT channel lol. Im looking forward to some more Votann vids though I know you just started that army not long ago
Great video. I have been enjoying all your combat patrol content. Looking forward to thr next one. Keep up the great work. I wish I could paint that quickly 😅
Normally, yes. but in this case I skipped it because I was pressed for time. You should be OK if you don't use too much mineral spirits, and apply a very light pressure.
Imho, overbrushing metals is a seriously underrated trick that I've been using forever and I'm still annoyed that it's not something that more mini painting guys don't use more often in their videos.
Cool video! Really like your style. I'm not too familiar with oil washes, but I've tried something similar with acrylic streaking grime and it really does hide a lot of crimes 😅
Is vallejo black primer consistent? I tried with AK 3rd gen black primer and goes easily when i scratch the surface I dont know if I do something wrong Thank you!
Hi dear, forgive the question I would like to know two things, what color black did you use to cover? And on the Warboss so you did not use washes ? thank you very much
Do you seal the pigment on the bases? I often use pigments but I feel its a god damn mess if its not sealed, but sealing it removes alot of the "dust" effect sometimes. Tips appreciated.
yes and no. An oil wash is useful in this case because it can be wiped away once it is partially dried, GW shades cannot. BUT, the newer formulations of the GW shades are better at pulling away from the high spots and settling in the recess, and NOT staining the entire surface like the old versions did, so you can give it a try by keeping it on the clothes and gear and NOT on the skin. Let me know how it turns out!
The boys were all knocked out in a single 4 hour session. The copters took about 5 hours, the boss about 6 (with base) and the dred took about 5 or 6 hours in total.
@@thehammerofwrath Wow, that's awesome...thanks for the fast response...looks like I'm buying a Ork Combat Patrol...your videos are inspiring me to actually paint them now...Space Wolves also...Good job brother...Mechanicus and the psycho Drukhari next if you can...
Most of the paints are named during the video, but the main ones you'll need for the skin are a white undercoat (any white) and GW contrast: plaguebearer flesh, mixed 1:1 with contrast medium. Have fun! and reach out with any questions!
Super cool looking Orks! How do you mix the Oil wash exactly? When first experimenting with these a year ago, I ripped up my paint layers. I could only fix that problem with a coat of varnish before applying the oil wash
gonna be honest here and admit that I don't know how I got away with not using a varnish this time! :) It's likely a factor of three things; 1. I let the primer sit for 24 hours before I painted the models. (helps it bond to the surface, apparently) 2. I mixed the wash with less mineral spirits, so it was muddier. (this likely reduced the chance of acrylic paint peel) 3. I wiped the models within 30 minutes, and with a VERY light touch with a makeup sponge. (reducing the surface friction and likelihood of paint removal.)
Contrast plaguebearer flesh over a white zenithal highlight. Then on the warboss, some flash gitz yellow mixed with moot green for brushed on highlights around the brows and cheeks and nose.
I don’t know. This looks like a quick way. But from a bit of a distance it looks like a puddle of black with some dark green spots. I grew up with the white dwarf in the 90’s and I like the brighter more toony look with stronger contrasts. I am not collecting Orks myself but I guess I would prefer that old style.
The speed on the boys! Great vid as always, and I can definitely agree Orks are probably the most pleasant army to paint. At least in small doses. Why don't you wanna mess with enamels when you use oils though?
Quick and effective techniques! Well done
Thanks! Efficiency is key for the waaagh!

Wonderful! You don't have to kill yourself to get decent looking minis! Go get 'em!
You make this look so easy! Way faster than I can do and way better results
Thanks, but you can do it too! The trick is knowing what details you can skip and get away with!
Awesome, I had all these on hold because I didnt dare to start painting them. After this video im gonna start right away
You got this!
Nice and fairly simple. I really like the idea of the black over the metal to show the chipping. ❤
Incredible video! JUST getting into warhammer and these tutorials help greatly. Thank you!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching.
The chipped black on that warboss looks so darn good

Hi, one question:
Did you varnish before using Oilwashes/Whitespirit?
Heard it take of colors.
Nice video, thanks for the metal color tricks 🥳🥹👍
Normally, yes. but in this case I skipped it because I was pressed for time. You should be OK if you don't use too much mineral spirits, and apply a very light pressure.
Pretty cool look. How long until the oil wash is fully dry? And your primer layer looks thicker than mine, does it stick and lay just fine?
the models are safe to touch after a few hours, and the oils are fully cured after a day or two.

Beautiful paint job. How did you make the sandy bases? Vajello thick mud?
That's GW astrogranite or devland mud, and a repaint in lighter sand colors over top in most cases.
@@thehammerofwrath thx so much :)
Sorrg another wuick question how do you make those washes? The ones that you put all over the orks
@@chadtan12 That's an oil wash. You use oil paint and mineral spirits, mixed.
Thanks alot :)
Vero nice thanks

I would love to see a badmoonz or free booters paint scheme if you ever do

Vallejo polyurethane primer.
These Orks look fantastic! Great tutorial! Question, did you not use varnish before oilwash? :O
I DIDN'T! I bought a bottle, and intended to airbrush it on before the oil wash, but was like, "eh, whatever" and just went right to the wash!
Hi dear, forgive the question I would like to know two things, what color black did you use to cover? And on the Warboss so you did not use washes ? thank you very much
I use vallejo black, but any black should do. And yes, the metallic parts on the warboss were washed with agrax earthshade, from GW.
@@thehammerofwrath Thank you very much 🙂💪
Do you seal the pigment on the bases? I often use pigments but I feel its a god damn mess if its not sealed, but sealing it removes alot of the "dust" effect sometimes. Tips appreciated.
yes, I sprayed on isopropyl alcohol to seal them.
Could I just use Agrax Earthshade instead of the oil wash? Are there any alternatives?

Balance bike for the win! My wife swears by it, took my son a while to transition cos his legs so short but great otherwise.

curious, how aere you doing you bases? for the texturing part
The texture on the bases is just GW Armageddon dust with a little extra sand mixed in.

there is always the temptation to paint second edition style with goblin green bases! :)
Is there any reason this video intro has grain?
My camera sensor is dying! Looks like it's time for an upgrade! :)
What texture did you use on the bases?
It's GW astrogranite debris with a little extra sand mixed in!
Plastic glue ontopnof paint?
yeah, revell contacta pro and tamiya thin are solvent enough to melt through paint and fuse the plastic together.
Is anyone with this level of skill and tools available looking at painting tutorials?
