I honestly think the contrast between the more gritty way you paint orks and the bright Oldhammer banners really makes the army stand out. It's a good blend of honoring both eras of the game.
As someone who is in his ‘50’s who used to play WHFB a long time ago, and am getting back into it because of The Old World I feel you are totally correct about aging. Occasionally I feel like a toddler discovering something for the first time, only to realize I had forgotten something and relearned it. It is glorious!
I started in the goofy oldhammer era but only a few years in they were already moving in a darker direction (even for fantasy). I love adding a bit of the more colorful flair to your orks!
Love everything about this. It's less faithful to old hobbying ways but 1.5mm graphite rods make good banner pole substitutes, almost too sturdy. Don't sleep on the inanimate carbon rod.
Orcs and goblin vs skavens is the most hilarious match I’ve ever played, long story short, both armies were destroyed by exploding things, cowardice, mood and beasts on the run. 20 out of 10 I would play that again.
Thanks for the brass rods tip. My Vampire Counts army is definitely getting the paper banner treatment, the banners and flags from Lead Mountain Widow are sick as hell.
I was really fired up to start making some banners until the end. Now, all I want to do now is listen to Nocturnal Poisoning on repeat again. Should be a fun combo.
Wish I could up vote this more than once. Another fun way to make banners (especially pennants) is with some shears cut old soda/beer cans into shape and flatten them by bending them gently the other way. If you have got a color printer you can print on sticker paper, and then cut to the same shape and stick it to the tin banner (or plastic banners from kits.) You can also just prime and paint it with acrylics. Once you're happy with it you can modgepodge/varnish it and then bend it. I find it's easier to paint the banner while it's flat than if I bend it first, and unless you're doing sharp angles the paint well just bend with the metal.
Absolutely love this video, that intro is the best and most true thing I've heard in ages. Absolutely stoked for the arc that is the return to maximum BDCF goofery.
I've appropriated banners from older fantasy/AOS orc--I mean 'urruks' for my space orks in the past, but ideas for flapping vehicle, boar, and squig-rider pennants are charging the enemy through my head just now.
I’ve been fretting over how to do banners because I wanted to do a good job but this helps me re-align on the whole point of it was that it seemed fun to add.
Banners add so much personality to an army. Plus, it makes them _look like an army,_ rather than a series of small mobs or big monsters. Every army should use banners. Yes, even Tyranids. Make them fleshy and organic, like it's a big Synapse node on a stick, thrust into the air for better reception. Plus, I can imagine the Hive Mind has learned that other species fear and respect the banner, and so make them to exploit that psychology.
I think i really gonna give this a try, sounds super fun ^^ Another hobby video i would love to see is about working with chains. Especially how you connected the steering chains to your squiggoth. I am almost done painting my big squig but have no clue how to attack those chains :)
I might have to give some of my Orks banners (which they also have Deathskulls scheme with abit of purple thrown in), also those banners you have look really cool
Coming back to this video today to say that because of it, I just applied my first ever banners to a delightful chaos dwarf sorcerer model from the days of yore.
Been planning making banner and flags mad out soda can sheet for my ork chaos army. Also gotta try paper paint sheet also and use my water color paints to make my banners. Also been waiting for this video for awhile. Awesome video btw. 🤘
The horrors of the dark millennium are endless, and yet I remain silly. I really like the goofy side of the models and I recently got into Orcs and Goblins in prep for Old World, and Gloomspite Gitz is at least one army that retained a lot of sillyness. You can't look at the Rock Trolls and think these are big scary monsters. So yeah I'm going to lean into some dumb sh*t for my Orks as well, I recently used the boss from the Deffkilla wartrike for a conversion so I'm going to be doing something with the trike and a Goff Rocker.
This was great. Im starting a Snakebites army aftwr being away from the hobby for years. Im going for a more crazy colorful rogue trader era color scheme and was just looking to make sime custom banners.
Here´s a tip ( i used anyways) to start painting my banners. Learn how to draw comicbook style. I am serious here, look up various comicbook artist tutorials on youtube and just copy those. You will learn how to make great looking banners fairly quickly. As for painting well in most cases you already know what you need to know. Since you been painting miniatures already just copy paste what you are doing there (with some modifications) onto the banner itself. The dark areas are mainly under the cheekbones nose and eyes, so you mainly have to use the layering technique. But apart from that you can get quite good at banners fairly quickly.
Watched this a couple of times for reference. I just bought a unit of 2nd edition Boarboyz. They absolutely cant be used sithout flags, that would be way sad. Thanks for a great video with oldhammer love. ❤️🎂🎈🌹🌷🥞
Im thinking of painting my first warboss on squigosaur as a clown theme with an added red clownnose. Also a gun with a toony red fist shooting out of it. 🤡
Thoughts on the back of banners? For Marine heraldry I don't have a good solution- a blank field of a single colour looks super plain, a mirror of the front is labour intensive and I'm not sure it makes sense anyway.
I usually just put gradients on mine! Airbrushing a small gradient helps the plain-ness a lot. Or doing some stylized strokes with a darker color. Weathering too
I have a pair of already damaged clippers that I use! They’re very thick clippers, you def don’t wanna use god hands or anything. I clip the banners with the thickest part of the clippers and it works fine for 1mm and 1.25mm. For anything thicker I use wire cutters
Your Orks are unmatched, its almost unbelievable. I love your channel but cant watch too much of it before getting demotivated at times. I need to just get some paint on these fuckers.
Getting paint on these fuckers is the only step, if you do it enough times they’ll look even better than mine. I believe in you/rooting for you and your boyz
here you go! www.patreon.com/posts/banners-87368206 and these: www.patreon.com/billiondollarclownfarm also these: leadmountainwidow.wordpress.com/banners-and-standards-and-flags-oh-no/
10th edition feels a bit like an open beta right now, so moving away from competitive content seems like a good move, yeah. Hobby-centric videos would be great, especially stuff like this.
I do Set this up to print at cost. Modeling for disadvantage is the life, especially when it looks this good

Just wrapped up cannibalizing my guard Chimera into trukks

The opening of this video nearly moved me to tears.

Hell yes. As an unartistic mini painters, those templates really help
goofy warhammer is best
Orcs and goblin vs skavens is the most hilarious match I’ve ever played, long story short, both armies were destroyed by exploding things, cowardice, mood and beasts on the run.
20 out of 10 I would play that again.
Preach.
I love your intro monologues. Crack me up every time.
I'm digging the JFAC Beastboss
Tyler- I love your vision and energy for hobby.
Thanks for the brass rods tip. My Vampire Counts army is definitely getting the paper banner treatment, the banners and flags from Lead Mountain Widow are sick as hell.
Damn you're a hidden gem. Instant subscribe, already binge-watching your stuff. Keep it up.
Feels like we need more reminders about what really makes the hobby awesome
I’m fully in favor of more goofy old hammer related content. 👌👌👌
I was really fired up to start making some banners until the end. Now, all I want to do now is listen to Nocturnal Poisoning on repeat again. Should be a fun combo.
love the oldhammer vibes! that silliness is really the soul of the hobby for me, amazing as always

excited to see you play with the tabletop titans!
100% going to make a ton of goofy banners for all my orks. This is so exciting.
Hobby focus for the win,
Comments for the algorithm!
I can tell you love this hobby. Don’t let anything take that away from you. I hope you continue to get joy from this for many years to come 🤘
I always loved the banners you make, it was cool to get an insight into how you do them, might give them a shot one day.
You inspired me, firing up photoshop now for my Stubby Anchor League - Pirate themed Leagues of Votann - Pirate Space Dwarfs
Absolute real one for making your banners free on your patron. I'll rep your standards in The Old World!
Absolutely love this video, that intro is the best and most true thing I've heard in ages. Absolutely stoked for the arc that is the return to maximum BDCF goofery.
This video summarises everything I love about Warhammer. Thank you Papa Clown 🙏
Really dig the banners, and yes, more goofy/fun oldhammer vibes would be welcome :)
Dude that beginning monologue was awesome lol.
When you have time could your show your entire Ork army? That would be great 👍
Love the old school way

Omg, I absolutely LOVED this. This is the inspo I needed. Thank you for sharing!
Coming back to this video today to say that because of it, I just applied my first ever banners to a delightful chaos dwarf sorcerer model from the days of yore.
Dude this is the best intro to a hobby video I've ever seen. Love and subbed
Honestly the best warhammer video I’ve ever seen. Keep this up and I’ll keep sharing your posts! Oldhammer is still #1
Been planning making banner and flags mad out soda can sheet for my ork chaos army. Also gotta try paper paint sheet also and use my water color paints to make my banners. Also been waiting for this video for awhile. Awesome video btw. 🤘
The first minute dropped so many truth bombs

Yeah looking forward seeing you on Tabletop Titans. Have fun! :)
Mad respect. Don't think my crooked hands can paint that while. Definitely going to cheat with the print slips.
I'm gonna have to do banners like this
dear god, how do you not have more followers!!! your videos, content, and models are badass.
that intro alone made me subscribe
Awesome work!
Underrated channel, tbh. Also, good taste in music 🤘
Here's to forgetting skillsets. May we die as infants in our old age.

Most of mine look like the 5th image in this post: instagram.com/p/CvIOhtExgMR/?igshid=MTc4MmM1YmI2Ng==
How do you cut the brass rod? Can you just use clippers/knife or should you break out a saw?
