It is a device that redirects the sound of the guitar into Gilmour's throat rather than out an amplifier. His guitar is Literally singing for Gilmour. He then shapes the sound with the shape of his mouth.
Greetings from Niagara. A banger about a nervous breakdown, bolstered by Dr Stephen Hawking's voice apparatus (loaned to Pink Floyd). Oh- and David's talk box effects. Peace, love and bellbottoms.
The look of your shock, then enjoyment. Love it. He did all of his talking with the guitar since his words don’t come out right. Do their opener SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND….their signature song in honor of former band member Syd Barret who fried his brain in conjunction with schizophrenia.
Pink Floyd have always been experimental. For Echoes live in Pompeii, 1971, David plugged his guitar directly into the organ. The Leslie speaker was used either directly or as the organ speaker or both. Have heard that they sometimes played the organ through the guitar amps, etc etc.
Mark Brinkman did all of Pink Floyd's lighting from after the "Wall" until they retired ( Pulse). Mark did all of Gilmours lighting for his 2 solo's tours ( Should check out those 2 ) daces 2 tours "Live at Gdansk:" " Echoes" for the last time " Take a Breathe" "Live at Pompeii" "in any tongue"*********** " 5 AM" Dave they only person to perform there twice since 79 AD.
This is my first time ever hearing this song and just from hearing the beginning this is an amazing song. Pink Floyd was another group that came up with such amazing songs. I have always enjoyed the songs I have heard from them and I am glad I am hearing this song for the first time. You can tell this is a deep song and I appreciate listening to this group when I was younger.
🤗 Thanks for continuing the Pulse reactions. All of us, fortunate enough to have attended a Tour Show, have fond memories of the night. 🙋🏿♀️ I saw it at The NJ Meadowlands! 😁🥰🐰
11:50 Doesn't matter what track you play as soon as you say pink Floyd' you now its going to be incredible they never created a bad song David gilmour is on a musical level that is way ahead of its time nobody can equal him you want them to go on indefinitely but time waits for no man whata legacy they will leave amazing great reaction didn't expect anything thing less
Love the talkbox. it was big in the 70s. Musicians such as David Gilmour on "Pigs"; Joe Walsh on "Rocky Mountain Way"; Chaka Kahn and Rufus, "Tell Me Something Good" on The Midnight Special; most famous is Peter Frampton on "Do You Feel like We Do"; but I think the best performance using the talkbox is by Rob Walker from Stillwater performing "Mind Bender" (at Eddie Owens presents).
This song is really deep, the talking is Stephen Hawking a famous physicist that had ALS and talked through a computer, he is talking about for millions of years we were like the animal and then we started talking to each other and then came imagination, or that ca
Great that you're liking floyd , try Dave Gilmore,s "echoes"live in Gdansk,, his remake of the 71 hit,, it's 22 mins of pure listening pleasure, enjoy,
Ok dude. As a musician with over 50 years of experience I'll explain the "voicebox". At the base of the mic stand there's a box with a small speaker inside. A hose runs from the box up to the mic. when a footswitch is pressed the guitar is diverted to that box. the sound travels up the hose, into the mouth where the guitarist can then shape the sound. The vocal mic then amplifies it in the usual way. This is the predecessor of the computerized "auto-tune/vocoder" that's been overused by people who can't sing.
@@aidandavis9032 no. The wah peddle shapes the sound by electronics. Voicebox shapes the sound waves by physically projecting sound into the mouth. One can actually speak words with it.
@@coot1925 I figured that was the case, I'm just curious as a guitarist that is learning electronic sound design. I possibly should have worded it differently; how does a wah peddle use its electronics to shape the sound? Is it frequency modulation? Is it technically a phaser? It's a very interesting way of manipulating sound, but always confuses the hell out of me lol 😅
@@aidandavis9032 it's basically a tone control. When the pedal is tipped back it cuts the high frequencies and gives a more "muddy" or blues sound. As you tip it forward with your foot it increases the high frequencies and gives it a more shrill rock sound. Jimmy Hendricks was a master of the "Cry Baby" wah peddle. Let me know if you have any more questions and I'll try to help. I play 7 different instruments including drums/percussion and done a lot of studio and live work mate. ❤✌🏻🇬🇧
@@coot1925 I understand that explanation 100%, very well explained. Essentially just a manually adjustable filter. I appreciate it dude this helps me a lot 🙏
Great reaction as usual mate..Just letting ya know the vocola voice box he was using wasn’t synced to his guitar!!!!! They are completely separate!!! He was syncing he’s voice to the guitar!!!!
great reaction, id recommend that you try "MONEY" "TIME" and if you want to hear those backing singers really shine then you definetly want to try "GREAT GIG IN THE SKY", you will enjoy all of these aswell as plenty more
The guy in the background who is saying "all we need to do is learn to talk" is a recording of Stephen Hawking the scientist's mechanized voice because of his throat problems.
I think before you do Great Gig in The Sky. It will blow your mind to find out who Sam Brown is. The biggest pop star in the world cancelled her world Tour to be a backup singer for Pink Floyd. That kind of respect will never be forgotten. And she kills it.
I love Sam Brown but I think you're over selling her a bit as "the biggest pop star in the world". Most average listeners have never heard of her, although I believe she's criminally underrated and deserves to have much more of a general following than she does.
Love your reactions! I am a bit surprised, that being a fellow Canadian, you haven't done any reactions to RUSH. Maybe 2112 ( twenty one twelve), Xanadu, Cygnus X-1 Book 1 or others. The channel StickHits is a good place to start.
Great video ! Thank you. Some suggestions of "rock unique experience" : - Genesis : Dancing with the moonlight knight - Emerson, Lake & Palmer : The Barbarian - Yes : Roundabout - Magma : Hhai (live)
I'm a die hard LED Zeppelin fan~ reactions to Kashmir, Battle of Everymore, or any of their amazing tunes not played on the radio. With that being said PLEASE PLEASE AND PLEASE do a reaction to CANDLEBOX-[1993] FAR BEHIND and/or YOU. Awesomely short lived commercially. I FELT THE NEED to explain that Zeppelin is my all time favorite and the only thing in life I was born too late for 😂 I wasn't even born while they were kicking ass all over the wor, thankfully my parents knew good music. SO CANDLEBOX PLEASE? GREAT BAND YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED! They aren't LZ but for the 1990's? One of the best. Thanks! The world
Mankind’s greatest achievements have come about by talking. But its greatest failures by not talking. As when we look at what is happening in Ukraine and Gaza, “It doesn’t have to be like this”. To prevent such horrors from happening again and again, “All we need to do is make sure we keep talking... talking... talking.”
I believe David Gilmour used the talk box back in the 70's on the Animals album.. pigs if I'm not mistaken.. This song you reviewed here was released in about the same time as this concert.. so quite a bit of time in between those songs.. He may have more that I'm not aware of.. ALSO, Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains fame uses it in Man in the Box.. its a little more subtle but can be seen if watching a live performance ..
It is a device that redirects the sound of the guitar into Gilmour's throat rather than out an amplifier. His guitar is Literally singing for Gilmour. He then shapes the sound with the shape of his mouth.
Peter Framton probably has the most famous voice box reputation.
But Gilmore's style is soo cool!
Jeff Beck as well
Joe Walsh too
David on Animals. O and... Gilmour
all those who uses the talkbox rock the shit of their instruments+talkbox...
Bonjovi's guitarist Richie Sambora play that thing awesomly too
He's the man who makes music that touches your soul
Guitar sound goes up the tube and he shapes the sound with his mouth into his microphone.

He froze for about3 min.LOLOL
I was looking forward to your reaction to this one...One of my favorite songs...audio and the PULSE concert
Love your reactions to Pink Floyd imagine 2 and a half hrs of all this and one song better tha the next all live in 94👍🏻
It's called a "Talk Box" and awesome reaction!

Pink Floyd - Echoes live at Pompeii
I’m loving this journey! My favorite band for almost 45 years.
Love your reaction when you saw David using the voice box, David is the GOAT!!!
Stephen Hawking will always be remembered because of the song. Great talk box use as well
He kind of discovered that the universe is fading to nothing. I think.

Absolutely amazing as hell 🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely life teaches you every day love it❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️
He also uses the talkbox on the Animals album. He uses that for the sound of the pigs
Probably my favorite songbird the whole show, though „high hopes“ comes close!
😂😂😂😂😂 just broke it down at the vet park!!! Hope they enjoyed the show!!! ❤❤❤❤
Wow!!! Love that guitar 🔥❤️🔥🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️

next one from Pink Floyd - Dogs ( studio version with lyric ) = 17 min song . 1977 . 😎👍
Great Reaction, If You React To Peter Frampton, " Do You Feel Like I Do " Do The Frampton Come Alive Version Not The Saturday Night Live Version.
Pink Floyd amazing.
Is this off momentary lapse of reason xx
It's from "The Division Bell " album (1994)
David Gilmour 👍😊! Nice reaction. Can you do a Reaction to Nita Strauss songs Dead Inside and The Wolf You Feed ? Thanks.

Seconded for both Far Behind and You. I don't know much about Candlebox's back catalog, but those are two fantastic songs from 1994!
React to def leppard
