But I’ve known of one in particular that never shared in that responsibility. She let the other person do all the fence building & maintenance. We shared a property line, but was a hay field. There was a cedar tree that broke a huge limb out that lane on her field, I cleaned up the mess, hauled it to a brush pile on her property, but she got mad at me because I didn’t bring her the lumber. There was no lumber, what might have made lumber ( doubtful due to size of limb) was splintered so bad it was hard to chainsaw. Some people don’t want to share in cost.

I am super glad you are taking the time to help others. I am so glad to see a good hearted person in Michigan.
Since moving to Mi i have realized if you need help you have to ask 100 people to get one person to help. I found this rude and wrong but i am from the south where you help your neighbors and help take care of the young and elderly. I always help my neighbors if they ask something of me. Sometimes i do things just because it needs to be done, not because i was asked. Females work outside in south but usually a male will come help or take over outside work. One thing i notice where i live is that certain males gossip a lot but they never lift a finger to clean street of leaves and i end up cleaning in front of 6 houses (Referring to the street) and i am a disabled older female. I have not said a thing to anyone. I grew up if it needs to be done you do it. Of course i can't do it any day i have to wait for a good day where i am not in pain and can actually move around. I think about issues and figure a way to do it. My ways are laughed at a lot but they work. I really don't care if they laugh since they are to lazy to even help.
I was called by some one who needed a favor while i was in the middle of a crisis. I let them know i was in a crisis and couldn't help at that moment. They figured i was like everyone else and was making up a reason to not help. But i am from the South.. After my crisis was over i called and let her know i could now focus on her and her family and we can come up with a plan so everything works out for her too. It really shocked her and i explained this is what we do in the deep south. We come together and put heads together and form a plan then act on it. Some times we need to call someone else to help the person completely. Between me and a friend we were able to make her emergency a non emergency.
Once again i thank you from the bottom of my heart and hope you can continue to help those in need. We need more people like you. God Bless you and your family.

The neighbor's tree was also the reason some of the fence was down. Keep your trees trimmed if they are going over the property line.

Even if the fence is hers it would be a good neighbor to just put it back up if it joins your yard... especially since she is having health problems

13:28 it actual Depends really. On where the Fence was Placed. Alot of people Don't actual Place the Fence Right on the Property Line. But roughly 3 to 6 inches into their Property instead of on the Property Line. and If they pay for the Fence Themselves too. It belongs to them Solely.

6:30 I keep a supply of fiberglass driveway markers for use whene there is an issue, usually safety, with the lawn, such as a hole, stump, yellow jacket nest, etc., that cannot be immediately delt with. They can also be used to mark the edge of flower beds, well heads, etc., for when the snow comes.

In Australia if the facing boards are on the neighbours side of the fence then it falls to them to do basic maintenance and can ask for moderate shared costs.

  • @trixieracer838

I agree that as neighbors we all should take the time to inquire why someone isn’t keeping up with their yard or simple house maintenance before calling enforcement on them. You never know what is going on in their life. This homeowner, however, had a whole bunch of Walmart delivery boxes on her front porch that says to me that she can afford to hire someone to mow and edge her lawn. I have my 1/2 acre lot mowed by a service every two weeks for $40. A handy man doesn’t cost much to fix her fence either. I don’t know if she legitimately can’t afford to hire someone (which I doubt seeing all of those deliveries on her porch) or she just can’t manage her money effectively. Either way, erring on the side of goodwill is always the best policy and mowing an old lady’s lawn who is suffering from back problems is the best and kindest thing to do.

Surprised code enforcement helped you and didn't proceed in fining the lady. As much property taxes as we have to pay in America, there should be provisions to help people like this elderly lady with health issues. Big brother just salivates at the prospect of putting a lein on your property and then stealing it when you can't pay the fines. People like you are awesome!

If the fence is on your property its your fence and it makes you responsible for it. It's a shame neighbors don't care about their neighbors.

  • @jeirenvinamalawis8827

@13:23 The neighbors should share some responsibility in maintaining the fence because they share the benefits of the fence. It's plain common sense and concern to each other's neighbors. Share some love as they say. And for sure they knew an injured person is living in that property.

Responsibility is determined by whose property it is on. Usually a fence is fully with in a property line though sometimes it is right on the boundary

We have thousands of young men and women fully capable of doing this sort of work who are on welfare, who need to be working for government money. This is so very wrong in so many ways. Of course the neighbors are responsible to help this lady. Shame on them for not doing it. Thank you for being a blessing to her.

I noticed all of the fence panels were on her side? I suspect that at least some were on the other neighbors properties so at some point and that they tipped them over to her property; so they think "It's not on my property, not my problem." In reality everyone is 50/50 on fence maintenance (at least I think so from what I've heard from others with fences?).
