Your video shows it works very well, despite an end quote missing.
I solved everything with one more procedure, now I can get the trackball to work on the games I want
Thank You, you saved me a huge headache lol I have been trying to figure out how to do this for the past few days.
Glad this helped!
@@OfficialChaseBrogan would you happen to know to access a trackball's controls on batocera 35? Installed mine as directed and it's calibrated the wrong way so it's axis's are the wrong directions. Looking for a solution here, but perhaps you might know.
This is sweet, I've been eyeing that trackball for a future Pi project. Great seeing it in action.
Definitely! I was surprised how easy it is to setup. I thought it would be an absolute nightmare.
@@OfficialChaseBrogan thanks for the video. but how is the done on a raspberry pi . with retropie. I've been struggling for weeks now. I think I tried everything. thanx
Possible to do this with a pi3b+?
this is great information. ASSUMING you are already computer literate. as I know next to zero about computer technology.
Do you need to do all this to get the GRS spinner to work on a raspberry pi 4 also??
After watching your video I bought the trackball, which on the PC works regularly as MAME106.
The problem is in the bartop with a Raspberry p3 model b+ where in the initial part of my configuration I had this situation:
cap32_autorun = "enabled"
cap32_Model = "6128"
cap32_Ram = "128"
fba-diagnostic-input = "Hold Start"
fuse_machine = "Spectrum 128K"
fba_gb_colorization = "custom"
mame2003-skip_disclaimer = "enabled"
mame2003-dcs-speedhack = "enabled"
mame2003-samples = "enabled"
mame2003-frameskip = "0"
mame2003-skip_warnings = "disabled"
mame2003-sample_rate = "48000"
mame2003-external_hiscore = "disabled"
mame2003-dialsharexy = "disabled" (disabled)
mame2003-mouse_device = "mouse"
mame2003-crosshair_enabled = "enabled"
mame2003-rstick_to_btns = "enabled"
mame2003-tate_mode = "disabled"
mame2003-skip-rom-verify = "disabled" (disabled)
mame2003-vector-resolution-multiplier = "1" (disabled)
mame2003-vector-antialiasing = "disabled"
mame2003-vector-translucency = "enabled"
mame2003-vector-beam-width = "1"
mame2003-vector-flicker = "20"
mame2003-vector-intensity = "1.5"
which I transformed by adding the two lines as follows
mame2003-mouse_device = "mouse (already present)
mame2003-dial_device = "mouse (added)
mame2003-trackball_device = "mouse (added)
as you can see it uses the symbol '-' instead of the underscore '_', so I adjusted the syntax. But either way it doesn't work, whereas connecting a mouse to the usb port is OK . Where could the error be? Thanks
I'm not familiar with the process on a pi 3. They likely differ if possible at all. Just not at all sure of the pi 3 capabilities here.
@@OfficialChaseBrogan You also use a raspberry, what is the difference?
It looks like your using the purple side. My adapter which I can’t get to work the M is on the green🤔
Yeah I'm in the K which is the purple one.
I have a 4 player arcade cabinet setup. If I add trackball can I plug it into same USB port as player 1? And have both on using a USB hub? Or will that not work?
I built a cocktail table, do I do anything different since there is a player 1 and player 2 trackball
I just bought a trackball 🖲 for my arcade cabinet / works great as a mouse cursor (I wanna play C&C / Settlers…) BUT how can I manage to set the mouse buttons to a button on the gamepad???
So this worked for me but when we turned it off and turned it back on, the trackball stopped working. I tried looking at the config and all the lines of code are still there but it doesn’t work. Any suggestions?
Tried with Emulation Station and it seems the steps are not compatible. Would have expected it to work since Emulation Station uses RetroPie. If any ideas let me know. Thanks.
These settings work great for Retropie, thanks. Have you tried this trackball with Batocera? I'm considering going from Ubuntu 22 and Retropie to Batocera but I want to continue using the trackball.
Ok with pi3b+? I mran golden tee series
AWesome !!!! Thanks !!!!
What am I doing wrong?. After entering all the lines, saving and restarting I can see no lines have been saved in ¨retroarch-core-options¨. There`s also no lines about mame2016 at all in that list and it doesn´t matter if I add those or not, nothing will be saved for some reason when I check after the next restart. Appreciate any comment :)
Unfortunately this doesn’t help and I’ve still yet to find a way so when I load up centipede I don’t have to go into settings a change the mouse index from 0 to 1 every time so it uses the trackball (1) and not the spinner (0)… baffled, even asked on multiple forums and no-one can help…
UPDATE:
I’ve found the solution and both trackball and spinner are working perfectly in the games they’re supposed to.
@@Hester_Productions I sorted it - someone told me to add an instruction in the games centipede.cfg file.
@@bm63 Could you explain which config file stored where and which instruction? Thanks!
@@barnarddale I’ll do a video as it’s a bit hard to write it down. Should be up in a few days.
Can you let me know which version of mame you used to get these to work on Pi 4? I've tried mame 2003, 2010 and 2016 but none of them load the zip files for Golden Tee or bowling
Used 2003 and 2016 I believe. I'll double check but it's the two mentioned in this video. So you aren't able to get the games to open and load at all?
@@OfficialChaseBrogan Correct, they wont load at all. Im guessing I havnt set up the mame emulators correctly. Do I only need to install a mame emulator from binary from retropie's set up screen or do you also have to do anything else to get mame to work?
@@Redpearl98 Yeah if you don't have mame emulators then yeah you would need to add those. Typically mame 2003 is what I use most. If you jump into a mame game and tap A repeatedly you should come to a text menu where you can select "choose emulator for rom" if you do that check and see what's listed. If nothing is listed then that would likely be the issue. If you do have emulators then it could certainly be that you have some bad roms too.
How do you adjust sensitivity, I'm either over shooting on close shots or I roll back to get my swing going and for some reason it quickly swings and takes the shot for me 🤷🏽♂️
Which games? Arcade games? On a keyboard hit tab which should open up a menu where you can access the setting and make sensitivity adjustments.
@@OfficialChaseBrogan I noticed it when playing golden tee, I believe I've gone that route but let me double check. Thank you
@@kato771 if using retroarch then you may need to go in there to enable that menu so it actually pops up. Let me know tho.
ok so how do you adj the gain if the track ball is too touchy???
I am trying to get a spinner that identifies as mouse0 to work. With mame2003, I am not seeing a mouse index that I can set. Do you know where I can select which mouse index? Thanks!
Well I've done all that you have showed in the video and my spinner and trackball still isn't being recognized when I connect it via USB to my raspberry pi 4. Any other suggestions? I bought the GRS gen 2 spinner and the GRS trackball.
I'm not sure. Maybe there's a compatibility issue with your spinner and trackball. Not sure.
@@OfficialChaseBrogan Ya I am at a loss. I've done everything I've seen and read but still nothing. Thanks again.
@@crashoverride576 Wish I could help more. Definitely frustrating. It sometimes can be the version of RetroPie that you are on too. I know that has affected other configurations before. For example I had light guns working beautifully and updated the software and then got stuck with all light guns being unplayable for about 3 months until they finally released a new update that got them working again. Unfortunately weird stuff like that happens all the time. Could be that.
my trackball isn't aligning with the crosshair 100% any ideas for fixes?
I'm not sure. What game are you using it on? I've never used a trackball with a game that has crosshairs so I'm really not sure about that.
@@OfficialChaseBrogan it was games like Lethal Enforcers and such. But even games without a crosshair the mouse is like.... not functioning the full distance of the screen. :(
@@TravisLohmannMusic Oh okay. I've only used the light guns for those but they can be super touchy. I remember lethal enforcers being a nightmare to reload on because it wouldn't sense the shooting off screen well at all. Not sure how to fix that. In all honesty that's why I switched to Batocera for light gun games. It works so much better.
