@@WagnersTechTalk I meant you can install a linux-bash in Microsoft Windows by using WSL with e.g. ubuntu. Because its much easier to use then putty. :-)
I knew what you meant :) I've used WSL under Windows but PuTTY was a bit easier/faster to setup. I installed WSL about 2-3 years ago and wound up having issues and had to re-image my drive shortly after. I'm sure it's likely improved quite a bit since, but for quick access to SSH to the Pi 4 PuTTY worked well in my experience.

Amazing guides and tips! Thank you so much. Quick question: I read that RP4s at max can only utilize 32GB SD cards but I see you have used a 128 gig card. Am I missing something or is what I read about the 32 gig max inaccurate?
Thank you so much Brandon, much appreciated! 32GB is not the max, that is inaccurate for the Pi 4. In this video, I was using a 128GB up until the point where I demonstrate how to backup/restore your image to a larger capacity. At that point, I used a 512GB microSD card. The official documentation doesn't really specify an upper-limit other than stating "Only the Raspberry Pi 3A+, 3B+ and Compute Module 3+ can boot from an SD card larger than 256 GB." (See here: www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/installation/sd-cards.md ). I don't think the documentation has been updated for the Pi4, however. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much Nicholas, I really appreciate it! The purpose of expanding the file system is to make full use of the storage available on the microSD card. This is especially important when moving from a smaller capacity microSD to a higher capacity. Without expanding, the Pi won't see the full size of the new higher-capacity microSD. Hope that helps!

Here's a post you may find helpful for a 4:3 setup: www.reddit.com/r/RetroPie/comments/awky8b/change_pi_aspect_ratio_from_169_to_43 . For the Arcade controls, assuming everything is plugged into an encoder and the encoder into the Pi, should be able to go into the Input configuration and map the buttons from within RetroPie (Start button).

@@WagnersTechTalk I appreciate the info! I am looking for a way to be able to screen record for when I make a Ham Radio video involving a Raspberry Pi.
Ah, in that case you want to use Pi OS (formerly known as Raspian), enable the VNC Server in Raspi-config (interface options, if I recall correctly) and use Real VNC (client) in Windows/Mac to connect. That should provide you with a GUI, I thought you were talking about RetroPie-only. Those keywords should get you going, at this time I don't have any videos on that but it's similar to SSH (just using a VNC client instead). Hope this helps!

How can I do this? 2) scraping video snaps 3) how to download kodi and how to put kodi logo on main menu instead of just under ports. 4) how to play dosbox games on pi4 5) setting up atomiswave/naomi games. 6)getting and setting up bezels. 7) adding redream vmu saves so you dont have to spend hours unlocking everything a game has to offer. Plus any other tips you think would be useful. Really love your style keep up the good work.

Are you using a pre-made image or did you install RetroPie yourself? The only time I've experienced lag was either with a premade image or the TV/Monitor was not set in "Game Mode".
@@WagnersTechTalk it's pre-made. I purchased it for about 200 bucks. I've never set my TV to game mode and I use the hdmi cables that were included with my purchase. So maybe I will try what you've suggested. Playing snes is a struggle some of the games will not respond to me pressing buttons is weird.
Keep in mind if you install a fresh copy of RetroPie, make sure it's on a NEW microSD card and NOT the one you bought for $200. Otherwise, you'll wind up erasing the one you have along with all games, etc.
Each is it's own computer, the Pi4 is independent of the 3b so no you don't need a 3B to use a Pi 4 (I hope that's what you're asking). Just fyi - received a new product on Mon. that I'll hopefully review this week. May want to watch for that, might be something worth checking out.
Emulation Station runs on a number of platforms, for that reason it launches the local OS configuration applications which for raspi-config/retropie setup happens to be a non-ui app.
Funny, I just blogged about a really good price on a 1TB microSD card last night: wagnerstechtalk.com/blog (58% off) I'm super-tempted to buy one, but haven't done so. The largest I have is 512GB and nowhere near filling it up.
Quick question for you, after watching your video I surprisingly messed something up on my Pi 4. I tried to do Sega Saturn and Yabuse would start up but it would load like it was a CD in the Sega Saturn console instead of the game. Then somehow I hit a setting through RetroArch to where Sega Saturn in general won't even start at all now. All my other consoles on my Pi 4 are working normally but now I have no clue what to do. Isn't there a way I can reset my settings in RetroArch for the Sega Saturn back to default? I just dont want to mess up any of my other console settings in the process.
Here's an older thread, you would do this for the Sega Saturn (instaead of mame-mame4all mentioned). This should help though: www.reddit.com/r/RetroPie/comments/3o65pi/restore_a_specific_emulator_to_default_config/
@@WagnersTechTalk Awesome! Thank you! I'll try to see if I can resolve this tonight. Also, any ideas on how to get the game to actually read in the Sega Saturn emulator rather than it just booting into the console's CD screen?
When you use ssh to get games to console over wifi, do you always have to be on wifi to play games? Because I want to travel with a raspberry pi 4 and play my favorites with friends
You will typically copy your games using this method: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/#Installing_ROMs (see video above that section for a complete end-to-end setup). That is, you won't use ssh to copy files but rather drag and drop them into the share folder. However, once you do that you won't need WiFi once the games are on the Pi. So you can certainly take the Pi 4 wherever you want and won't need WiFi unless you need to copy more games, download themes, etc. Hope this helps!
Something that I do so I don't have to worry about running out of space is redirect the games folder to a external hard drive share. I don't see any delays and I can easily transfer games and image, ect from share to share.
I have a question I have a 20 button setup in retro PI 4 I want to know how to setup 4 admin button for example exit, home, menu, enter button on retro oi without having to down load a special config file which I don't have. Anything would help
If you want to map buttons not handled within the Emulation Station automatic configuration, you'll want to see this from the RetroPie website: retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/
Dear Wagner, I have a question about how to operate retropie with a zero delay encoder for the controls. I have built multiple Arcdae cabinets and I am now running into a problem that I have not encountered before. The moment I run retropie for the first time I can configure the controls. This is all going well. Then I choose "configure input" in the menu to configure the 2nd controller. So far everything is going well. Now comes the problem. The moment I restart retropie the controls of 1 of the 2 players are completely mixed up. How is this possible. I've built systems before and haven't experienced this problem before. Vlak6
That's a strange issue indeed, one I've not encountered. Are you using a pre-built image? I would start with a fresh copy of RetroPie and setup the controllers there. It could be if it is a pre-built image there is some file corruption going on which is causing RetroPie not to save your controller configuration. If none of this helps, I'd recommend posting your question here: www.reddit.com/r/RetroPie . Perhaps someone else has run into the same issue and could provide first-hand advice. Hope this helps!
Could be overloaded, or limited. Are you getting an error message? If so, what is it saying? If it says something about a quota then yes, they may have reached the max for the month. I ran into that once with Batocera.
What type of games are they? Reboot your Pi, make sure the WiFi is all good. If it is, try again tomorrow. Let me know how it goes, curious what it could be.
I've modded an Arcade 1 up Street Fighter cocktail table, and have rotated the screen and theme, but I can't rotate the games. Raspberry pi 4 seems to have changed the procedure for doing so. Some games are rotated, but most are not. I've hit a wall and can't get over it. Can you help?
What emulator are you trying to use? This blog post may be helpful: www.reddit.com/r/Arcade1Up/comments/bv7lai/rotate_screen_from_emulationstation_to_use/

I don't have a computer just the Raspberry Pi. Will I still be able to download Retro Pie onto my Raspberry Pi just using the Raspberry Pi? Or do I have to find a computer?
I asked that because most of the time I've personally had issues is when I have tried a premade image. Not sure why, but I tend to create my own images these days as I've had issues such as: slow frame rates, controller response times, etc. I've not had the exact issue you mention, but similar with premade images.

Like and subscribed. Please do more videos like this. Here are some topics I'd like to see and some that I know others want to see.
1)making custom categories. Specifically id like to divide my arcade games Into arcade-fighters, arcade-racers, ect. I have see logos like this. How can I do this?
2) scraping video snaps
3) how to download kodi and how to put kodi logo on main menu instead of just under ports.
4) how to play dosbox games on pi4
5) setting up atomiswave/naomi games.
6)getting and setting up bezels.
7) adding redream vmu saves so you dont have to spend hours unlocking everything a game has to offer.
Plus any other tips you think would be useful. Really love your style keep up the good work.
Love it, thank you so much for your list of topics! This is exactly the kind of information that I wanted to hear. I want to grow the RetroPie tips page with multiple blocks of tips and your feedback is GREAT! Thank you and also thank you for subscribing, that means a lot.
Thnx
Can you do a video on how to stop lag on snes and sega
How do you cheat using retroarch their are videos on it on UA-cam but I don’t know how to access that particular screen with my retropie
Usually Hotkey (Select) + X will get you into the RetroArch menu.
Can you use the RetroPie Manager remotely from another PC to monitor your RetroPie?
Most definitely, that's what it's for!
I still have a working Pi 3B, is it needed to upgrade to the PI 4? I just do retro games.
Each is it's own computer, the Pi4 is independent of the 3b so no you don't need a 3B to use a Pi 4 (I hope that's what you're asking). Just fyi - received a new product on Mon. that I'll hopefully review this week. May want to watch for that, might be something worth checking out.
@@WagnersTechTalk Probably too much hype on the Pi 4 so I am developing a case of Upgraditis. I will wait for your next video.
thanks for the great video. can s0meone tell me where to get the files for dreamcast @14:20?
Very welcome! I would just web-search the bios files for the dreamcast.
What I do not understand, is everything in emulation station has a GUI but RetroPi config is not.
Emulation Station runs on a number of platforms, for that reason it launches the local OS configuration applications which for raspi-config/retropie setup happens to be a non-ui app.
This might sound insane but is a 1tb Ed card fine with the pi4, For future proofing.
Funny, I just blogged about a really good price on a 1TB microSD card last night: wagnerstechtalk.com/blog (58% off) I'm super-tempted to buy one, but haven't done so. The largest I have is 512GB and nowhere near filling it up.
Future proofing? I think 1 tb is too much try filling up a 128 or 256 with games.
@TT12- Roblox and more That would be case but when it comes to ps1 games it can take up a good amount of space
*the case
@@WagnersTechTalk Thank you!
Very welcome Joseph, enjoy!
Thanks!
You bet!
Something that I do so I don't have to worry about running out of space is redirect the games folder to a external hard drive share. I don't see any delays and I can easily transfer games and image, ect from share to share.
Thank you, I appreciate the tip! Planning a future RetroPie tips video with tips like this one.
Great thanks I appreciate the link makes everything easier
Subscripted.....liked it very much, very helpful for me.. Thx for the good work
Thanks for the sub, I appreciate your support!
I'm still stuck on setting up the fan for the argonone & overclocking it. Can you help?
I will, just haven't had time to get to it yet.
My scummvm games were working fine before but now they won't play. Can you help?
Please see this: retropie.org.uk/docs/ScummVM/ The files should end in .svm, perhaps that's why?
How can I turn it off once the game launched "gamepad 1 configured" ( from down left screen - pop up ). How?
Press SELECT+START at the same time.
How do you get the scraper to work? It worked for 1 day now nothing. I am not sure if the sites are overloaded or it is broken code.
Could be overloaded, or limited. Are you getting an error message? If so, what is it saying? If it says something about a quota then yes, they may have reached the max for the month. I ran into that once with Batocera.
@@WagnersTechTalk I get the no hash found error on all the games it will not scrap even 1 of them successfully.
@@WagnersTechTalk Great! I'll try after work! Thanks for the advice and expediency!
Excellent! Worked like a charm! Thanks a ton.
Hi when going to install redream it's not an available package. Do I need to update experimental packages
Hi, does anyone know if is it possibke to boots retropi from an ssd? Or if it possible to program some leds?
Yes you can. I released a video earlier this week using the NESPi 4 case booting from SSD here: ua-cam.com/video/OrsRuXiIrm8/v-deo.html
@@WagnersTechTalk I didn't know that, sorry, this is the first video that I see of the channel 😅. My case is the DeskPi pro, I don't know if that matters.
No problem at all 👍 You'll probably want to pick up a USB 3.0 SATA Adapter such as the one mentioned here: wagnerstechtalk.com/nespi4/#Product_Links . Some speed tests of the few SSDs I own are here: wagnerstechtalk.com/nespi4/#Speed_Tests
@@WagnersTechTalk the case that I got already has an adapter, but thanks a lot for the help 😊, if I have more issues I will ask without a doubt.
@@WagnersTechTalk I forgot to tell you something, I already intalled retropi in a MicroSD card, how I uninstall it, because I don't want to cause any interference with the ssd. Thanks a lot for your help, I saw more videos and you explain perfectly ☺
Do you know why my favorites folder isnt saving when i do a clean reboot?
Only thing I can think of is you're possibly using a no-name microSD and it's about dead. Just a hunch.
@@WagnersTechTalk its brand new sd card lol what I had to do was scrape it, check favorites, save it, then restart my system. favorites are saving now in case someone else has this issue.
Good news, glad it's working. What brand card is it?

Question can you put a emulator for sega saturn?
Yes, full instructions here: retropie.org.uk/docs/Saturn/
I don't have this main menu on mine. The guy who sold it to me said this is rasp pi4. Could you help? My menu doesn't say main menu either it just says configure and underneath I see emulators displays controls scraper etc but mot UI settings or anything like that. If you could help I would much appreciate it. Thank you! :)
I'm not sure, doesn't sound like RetroPie, Batocera or Recalbox.
How do I install retro pie and play games?
Hi Michael, got ya covered here: ua-cam.com/video/fDdPApFGvBo/v-deo.html and if that isn't enough info. for you, got a whole page dedicated to RetroPie gaming here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming . You should find everything you need to get started here. Hope it helps!
@@WagnersTechTalk Thanks
👍👍
I don't have a computer just the Raspberry Pi. Will I still be able to download Retro Pie onto my Raspberry Pi just using the Raspberry Pi? Or do I have to find a computer?
My joystickS setup configuration doesn't save.
That's odd, are you using a pre-made image or one you setup from scratch? Sounds like a corrupt microSD might be the reason.
@@WagnersTechTalk Premade
I just started this arcade1up mame. I just figured out how to properly wire it. So I guess I havent quite figured how to properly do it.
I asked that because most of the time I've personally had issues is when I have tried a premade image. Not sure why, but I tend to create my own images these days as I've had issues such as: slow frame rates, controller response times, etc. I've not had the exact issue you mention, but similar with premade images.
Hot damed🎉
thought it would be in a different vide, and where else would the comments be other than below, also there is no need to specify down below as well.... It's more redundant than painting ten layers on a car, at all times of the day.
If that's the only problem you had with the video, then maybe it was 👍 lol.
Wow you look like ruler off startrek lol
