Last year I bought a second-hand Singer overlocker, having never owned one before - nor even an electric sewing machine! I have read so many posts on various sites of nightmares people have had with their overlockers that, to be honest, I left mine in the cupboard until this week. Having watched your first tutorial on threading, I was delighted when my machine worked first time, so thank you for your clear instructions - you've inspired me to have a go.
amazing!! This helped so much! I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong since I was using the manual and the Singer youtube channel to troubleshoot what I was doing. Not only is the converter NOT mentioned in the book - they don't even use it in their own videos!! Talk about setting people up for failure and frustration. thank you!!
Thank you for taking the time to create such clear and informative tutorials. You seem like a thoroughly decent chap! I have found these really useful and you have helped unlock many mysteries that the overlocker holds. Thank you.
I am just starting my dressmaking journey, having not made clothes since my schooldays (some 35 years ago). These initial tutorials have given me enough knowledge to have the confidence to ‘have a go’. I’ve signed up to a simple, beginners, dressmaking course, but I don’t feel I need to splurge on an overlocker course straight away now. SUCH a valuable set of tutorials 😊🥳 Again, thank you.
This video just changed my life! I've had my Singer serger for 3 yrs, and I grew up with them in my home - my mom and dad both used to sew and taught me all I know. But even searching all the Singer videos and tutorials online I just couldn't get the roll hem right, until you did this and I found your video. I just finished my ballroom competition dress after watching this as I could finally do the skirt hem. THANK YOU!!
Thank you so much for your detailed explanation! I got my machine from a friend who thought I would make better use of it. Until now I only used it occasionally to finish raw edges. Using four threads 🙄 What a waste! I did not even now this machine could make seams... let alone rolled hems and flat seams! I am definitely going to use the machine a lot more after seeing these tutorials!!
So happy I found you as I just bought this overlocker and have no idea how to adjust it for rolled hems. Thank you for the sample sheets also as a new sewer this is great for me to practice and learn with.
Thank you for another very helpful tutorial. Just reading the manual is very confusing so seeing everything clearly explained step by step is brilliant. What a great freebie at the end too - thank you - so useful!
Jamie Kemp, this is an excellent tutorial. You have explained parts of my overlocker that even when reading thru the manual and not appreciating fully what I was reading, you have made it clear and precise. Also the download and printed Overlocker Sample Sheet is perfect. Thank you.
I'am using the same lock machine about 4-5 years now And I'am verry happy with it . Thank you for the videos you ahave uploaded sometimes they are very helpfull .
Many thanks for yet another great tutorial and special thanks for the reference sheet. Brilliant for me as I'd never remember all the tension settings etc!
This tutorial was great - thank you so much. I needed to shorten my dress with underskirt that I'm wearing to my son's wedding by about 4 inches. The original hems were rolled so thought I'd give it a go and with your brilliant tutorials, some practice with the off cuts and a bit of tweaking the outcome has been a total success and I'm thrilled. Having owned my machine for about a year but never really using it, I shall certainly be using much more now I know what to do! The written instructions that come with the machine are really hard to follow so your tutorials have been a godsend - Thanks again!
Hi Jamie i have just found your site and enjoyed your tutorial on the lidl;s over locker. i purchase this machine nearly 4 yrs ago and never taken it out of the box. But you have inspired me to start sewing. I know that these tutorial on the over locker are old videos. but you had a free over locker sample sheets to download but i can't download them. is there anyway that i could get a copy either free or to purchase please. I know it will help me through my over locker journey. thankyou
Hi Jamie thank you for all your info. I have been thinking about buying an over locker for a while now but have had reservations about it. Watching your video today has been very informative can you put a link for sample sheet please as this so helpful for beginners and you explain things so well. Thank you
Hello, and thank you for the tutorial, it was great. I could definitely use the stitch sample sheet, it will be helpful, I tried getting it but the blog is no longer available. Any chance you could post it here? Thank you!
Hi Jaime, do you have a troubleshooting video. My overlocker was working fine, when I tried to use the converter to do a 2-thread rolled hem, the converter popped off. Now the upper and lower loopers are hitting each other. Does this mean my timing is out
Jamie do you need to buy other presser feet for the overlocker or can you do most things using the one that Lidles provided? Many thanks for taking the time to teach us I really appreciate it. All your lessons have been soooo helpful.
I have done everthing like in the video, but I hear a weird sound when I turn the handwheel, the threads are not braided together... How do I solve this?

I didn't get a converter, my machine is Singer 14 U134, it's over 32 years old, where can I buy one from? Thanks 👍

Carol Morgan there are different feet but the one supplied is good for most tasks. I'll do a video about them at some point ☺
That would be brilliant, thanks ever so much.
