I really like how this game tackles the theme of fate and prophecy. Essentially prophecies are less "inevitable outcomes destined by fate" and more "very strong and accurate predictions based on people's natures". This also helps explain why prophecies tend to be pretty vague. While you may not be able to say exactly what happens, you can guess by somebody's nature how certain outcomes would occur and thus seem inevitable. Therefore the only real way to change your fate is to change yourself.
This quite literally what the norns said. They assumed what would happen to kratos because they know of his nature, but because kratos changed he in a way changed his fate.
@@crowofjudgement4718 The Norns understood that they were working with characters in a story, not real people. But even that doesn't change how your fate was destined. It changes the way it is done like whether in a more tragic, brutal, or joyful way, but doesn't change the outcome it leads to. And to add to how the Norns see everything as a play, the events of the prophecy will play out just the same, but the only thing changable is how "entertaining" and emotionally impactful or "boring" and ordinary it is
I think this is the exact same thing that happened with the prophecy of Tyr leading the armies to Ragnarok. I think it was foretold that "The God of War" would lead the armies to Ragnarok. Somewhere down the line, someone replaced "God of War" with "Tyr", because, of course, why would you consider any other God of War? At the end of the day, *a* God of War led the armies of the 9 realms to Ragnarok, it just wasn't the one that everyone was expecting it to be.

I like that this prophecy played out the same way with the marked warrior prophecy. It was prophesized that a marked warrior will destroy Olympus, so the gods kidnap and imprison Deimos, Kratos's brother who was born with a strange mark over his body. Kratos who thought that his brother is dead, eventually got a tattoo of the same mark in honor of his brother, becoming the marked warrior and well, as we all know, fulfills that prophecy.
@@dutchvanderlinde4713The ashes gave Kratos the pale white skin. When Kratos asks Ares to save his life, his skin was normal AND he had the tattoo. It was after he was serving Ares that he accidentally murdered his own family.
I always liked the concept of the prophecy including the steps people will take to change the prophecy after hearing it into the outcome of the prophecy simply because it's so obvious. If the prophecy is knowledge of the future, obviously it will include the knowledge that people will hear the prophecy itself and the actions they take to subvert it would logically be included in the results. And it makes sense that people would still do something to change the prophecy only to create the conditions for what was prophesized because thinking logically about an abstraction after told you were either going to die or your loved one is would probably be kind of difficult.
You might be able to postpone it, so the prophecy will unfold much later, or to someone else that might fit the criteria. The ironic part, that we as readers of mythology have gotten used to, is that their actions to postpone or avoid it, end up being the last necessary steps of the prophecy that cement them being the targets. It's a good way to twist the expectations of both the characters and the audience, without making a false promise.

I loved the game. But there were two things I really wanted. 1. Kratos talking to Atreus about his other family and the events of gow3. 2. I was really hoping to get thor's hammer as a weapon.

@@Birthday888 no. The fates were overall better than the norns in every aspect of fate itself. They could not only predict the future like the norn could but they could physically alter it with their time manipulation. Not to mention they were warriors as well unlike the norns who hide away because they can't fight. Freya herself that the norns are far inferior to the fates.
I like the callback to GOW Ascension when he said “I sought the oracle to break my bondage to ares” the continuity is astonishing.
Also themes of loss and how people deal with such a thing differently.
This quite literally what the norns said.
They assumed what would happen to kratos because they know of his nature, but because kratos changed he in a way changed his fate.
@@crowofjudgement4718 The Norns understood that they were working with characters in a story, not real people. Prophesies were nothing more than looking at the characters in a play and making predictions based on what kind of story this is.
Meaning the only way to break your fate is to change who you are as a character, and in doing so, change your story.
“It is the *nature* of a thing that matters, not its form”.
At the end of the day, *a* God of War led the armies of the 9 realms to Ragnarok, it just wasn't the one that everyone was expecting it to be.
during my first run of the game, the moment it said a god of war would lead the armys of the 9 realms and it was assumed to be tyr, i knew instantaneously it would be kratos
Either that or it did say Tyr and was just incorrect.

Technically it wasn’t the oracle, it was Zeus’ inability to apologize and take accountability
A simple I’m sorry bro or not insult kratos before helping pandora would’ve sufficed 😂
well he is Zeus. He literally will prefer to be a jerk and die than say "I'm sorry" even with his real life counterpart self.
You forgot that the concept of fear possessed Zeus and made him fear kratos. Before that Zeus always favored kratos. Even Hera said that kratos was his only child that he wouldn't let Hera get slightly close to. She said he was protective of kratos when kratos was growing up and he was the one that wanted kratos to become the god of war after ares died. He could've literally chosen any other full god to take ares sport but he chose his son kratos. Even Hercules himself complained about Zeus choosing kratos to be the god of war and sending Hercules out to fetch an apple. Zeus wasn't all good but atleast he meant no ill intention towards kratos before the fear in Pandora's box fucked him up and made him paranoid of kratos.

“One often meets his own destiny on the road he takes to avoid it”
-Oogway
Guess Oogway knows all about Greek prophecy
It’s really funny when you think about it. When he told Shifu about Tai Lung’s return, Shifu panicked and had his messenger fly to his prison hoping to prevent him leaving. This lead to the messenger shedding one of his feather’s accidentally allowing Tai Lung to use it to escape. So if you think about it, Shifu set in motion the events that would lead to his former student and surrogate son to break free, fulfilling the vision he hoped to avoid.
Ironic…
I gotta say I love how Kratos phrases his ascension as the god of war as if he got a promotion at a corporate job after the previous employee was fired or something like that XD
The tattoo isn’t the prophetic mark, it’s the ashes of his wife and child that coats his body.
@@dutchvanderlinde4713The ashes gave Kratos the pale white skin. When Kratos asks Ares to save his life, his skin was normal AND he had the tattoo. It was after he was serving Ares that he accidentally murdered his own family.

"One often meets his destiny on the path he takes to avoid it." - Oogway
It's a good way to twist the expectations of both the characters and the audience, without making a false promise.
basically a soft bootstrap paradox
@@ImaginaryChannel would explain how kratos successfully defied the prophecy, he didnt avoid it, rather he flew directly towards it by creating the spear in order to kill heimdall
