Regarding the Ginger Yield: The ginger shown in the beginning was not all used to grow just one plant. I broke the ginger apart (0:53) into pieces to start 4 plants (1:13). The ginger harvested at the end was started from a 2x1 inch piece and yielded 6x4 inch in ginger. It would have grown bigger if planted in-ground in right climate or in greenhouse.
Living in Kauai, ginger is plentiful. I've had some great success with turmeric as well. Pretty flowers!
Your weather is perfect for growing tropical plants. We visited Maui and I asked the farmer there if he has worms bins to keep earthworms. He said, the weather is so good, they are all over the farm, we don't have to farm them.
Daisy Creek Farms with Jag Singh Yes, that’s very true, perhaps why I was wondering about the worm cultivation part of your composting video. We’ve also had great success composting directly into our garden and growing vegetables from cuttings. Great videos- great content! We subscribe and watch. Mahalo nui loa 🌺
:)
Can't believe people are still racist in this day and age ...
Well now we know how hard it is grow one piece of ginger, let's all appreciate hard working farmers out there.
Absolutely.
Same with other roots--- yucca, mandrake, burdock, ginseng... they are the root so they take the longest. It is definitely a plant that takes patience.
Yah you use one piece of old ginger, wait for 6 months and grow one piece of young ginger😂
You are right
He broke up the large piece and got 4 plants...
I've just started dating a ginger and now UA-cam are showing me what they think are related videos lol
I don't believe you started dating a ginger during quarantine, unacceptable!! Lol

Because you typed Ginger on your keyboard so it thinks you meant ginger root. They are always watching and listening.

I LOVE THIS GUY!! Thanks Jag!! It's your energy that is just like the energy in the plants. Happy!! Thank you soooo much. You're teaching me gardening.
So simple and informative. You explained well with concise direction. I love that you followed the process all the way through. Definitely trying this now
I love seeing a happy gardener that was a beautiful result I'm going to try this thanks
I love how excited this guy looks in his videos. Makes me excited to grow anything 😂💕
Hello my dear Niece friend and happiness of this week so nice girl I am fine and you ki haal he jnab
Same here.. more than ginger I love his expressions and that motivated me to plant ginger
@@salikkhaksar.
Even balls 😂😂
Yeah and he's not bad looking either.
Thanks for being patient enough to record the full process. Nice!
One of many great videos that I have watched of yours. I remembered seeing this video before and looked it up today before I planted some ginger. Thank you so much!
Your video clip is the easiest to understand.. not so much talking nonsense...pure and educational too thank you 🙏
Thanks for the nice comment. I am working very hard on these videos! Glad to see people like them :)
Otyza Vrgnia well said
Ginger yields more in flat pots, it is not a root crop, it is a rhizome crop that grows along the surface, so depth is not the key but the width of container is. That's the reason why only 2-3 shoots showed up, and less yield.
thank you.
Thank you.
@Amazonia - Tongkat Ali no one asked you
Yes that's been experience, Jag could have harvested a lot more. I live in the same zine as he and I get great yield.
@Amazonia - Tongkat Ali black pepper also makes a synergy I hear..

The best gardener on UA-cam hands down everything I’ve grown has been from watching your videos 😎😎😎
Greetings from Singapore! A very informative and clear cut video! Especially love the joy that radiants from you, at each harvest! Keep sharing! Its a joy to watch! Going off to plant some ginger now!
Your reaction was amazing, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have convinced me to get gardening! I’ve planted thyme, coriander, and spearmint from seed so far. I’m doing chamomile tomorrow! 😁 peace and blessings be upon you my brother!!!
how is it
The greatest thing about ginger is that if you leave it in the ground and harvest after the plants die back, you can break it up into more pieces, plant those, and produce even more. I'll be doing something similar with ginger and turmeric that purchased this year. Their primary function will be landscape plants, their secondary function will be cutting my costs at the grocery store...lol
Thank you for your videos, they are very informative! I really appreciate you explaining how often to water the plant, how much sun to give and more! Good job!
The foliage on these plants is quite attractive. I would be inclined to grow it as a houseplant and then harvest and divide it on a yearly basis. If you had two pots of ginger and alternated between them, harvesting every 6 months, you might get decent yields and also a nice (cheap!) plant for your house. The leaves can also be used in stir-fries
Oh wow... .nice....thank you for sharing ..I'm getting my "Ginger Wisdoms"... Most grateful...... Mmmmm...yummy tummy!!!!
Good job! Thanks for teaching me. I never knew how to do it (never looked it up before). I grow many herbs and will love this new project.
This fresh ginger looks very good! Not a huge amount, still good that you grow it on your own!
harvesting ke time ginger plant kahin orr se utta kr dikha diya hai .................. wow !!
I'm so excited for you. You did a wonderful job sir. You're right about the cold...I'll have to wait...you got me excited lol. Bless you

I love your excitement! Thank you for sharing this. Ginger is one of the more costly to buy and I use a lot of it. Time to grow my own!
Really? I get for dirt cheap at the Asian supermarket. Check there.
I absolutely love how happy you were about the results this video really brightened my day thank you
your encouragement is good

I’m so glad I saw your video. I’ve seen several, but none mentioned that the ginger had to be underneath the soil or it wild dry. My friend gave me a small plant several, I mean several years ago. It has grown so much that it’s grown 1/4 way out of the ground the top is dry. Thanks for the tip. All those years, it never dawned on me that it was the kind I could cook with, so I’m very excited. I made my favorite, ginger beef over rice the other day. It was fabulous. Rasa Malaysia has the best recipe for it.
Thank you so much for posting this video. It was very helpful, clear and concise.
Thanks for the tips JaG!!! I am grateful that you explained the difference between a immature ginger and a very mature one!!! I am goinG to be growing some ginger this summer....so I appreciate all the help that I can get!!! Have an awesome summer!!!!
Beautiful! Thank you for the information and inspiration!
Thanks to you my ginger looks wonderful! It’s so tall! I give it a shower every day, which I didn’t know it liked. It’s still inside in a pot but when it gets warm outside, I’ll put my pots under the banana trees. It’s hot and humid under there. I live in the PNW by Seattle. Thank you again Jag! I love your videos !
Thank you for watching. I am glad you are enjoying growing ginger :)
Fabulous video and so glad that I learned how to grow ginger! How nice to have fresh ginger for smoothies!
If you score the vegetable where it will grow (on the top and the bottom, stems and roots) your plant will grow 💯!!! I love your videos, you are too cute! Your camera is sweet!
Nice vid. Your ginger stayed fresh for 6 months in the ground than it would have in the fridge/ when left outside. Not a lot quantity wise, I agree with others but it's a nice feeling to grow your own veggies (free from cancer causing pesticides) Your vid has inspired me enuf to grow some myself. It's early April in the UK. Hope it's not too late to sow some ginger in the ground.
I appreciate you filming the whole process until harvesting it.
Yes yes yes i also appreciate that. Cause you learn and understand better
I love planting ginger, the smell is amazing 💚 I have some I'm getting ready to plant some soon.. TFS 😁 I love it 💜👍
Hey 👋 I just have my first harvest of ginger today. Your video really helped, I made it as a guide when I was planting it. Thank you 🤗
I live in NC, we have hot humid summers clear into Nov. I am going to try this and see what happens. Thanks for a easy to understand video that is short and to the point.
I live in Raleigh and grow ginger in pots. It is a lot of fun to harvest. Good luck to you!
I live up in the mountains. It is a bit cooler here, but I don't think enough to make a difference. So I will give it a try too. We have humid weather that is for sure.
The Primitive Black Hat Society - I'm in NC, too. I grew some ginger in a pot all summer. Just brought it in for the winter. I put the pot in my birdbath for awhile and it seemed to do well in there. It has 2 stalks. I haven't dug down to see how much ginger is in there, but I can see a little bit pushing itself from under the soil.
After all that wait and hard work, u have that lil ginger i was thinking a lot more but bless him he sounded so happy 🤣🤣
😂😂😂🤣
Thanks so much. I live in Spain. It’s hot, but not wet. All I have is a balcony with a large pot that I stuck some ginger in around April. Your video was very heartening
Ginger has so many great uses. Thanks for the tips!
Great. I will try to grow ginger as I use it frequently.
Jag-as usual, another fine vid! Thanks, your vids leave me positivity & knowledge
I can see your joy! Thanks! Delightful video... this and many I've seen! Keep up the good works! :)
I love how excited you got when you saw the growth. I get the same way with my planting. Nicely done love the music.
Love your enthusiasm. Great videos.
You are currently my favorite gardener on UA-cam..
Thank you so much for all of your videos! I am trying to grow my own food, recycle, compost, and be organic. Your videos are so informative and helpful!
You are organic, except for your clothes and makeup and such.I could help you to become more orgasmic.
There is always someone who has to hate, or be negative. I am thanking someone for a helpful video. I am not asking for a stranger to try to comment about me or how you think I am.
Thank you Jag for this video. Looking forward to more such videos from you.
This looks great, thanks for sharing!🙏
It feel amazing when we grow by ourselves 👍😊 I learn some more tips now thank you for information on this 😊 I had also grown ginger, garlic and coriander in my containers 😊👍 Good Job 👍👍
I think you have the best videos on explaining how to plant.
I'm sorry to sound greedy, but after so much work I was expecting more ginger. However, I enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing it.
my feelings exactly
@@antoinemichaels4909 - Sigh...
you have to consider that he broke off several pieces from the original. I grow ginger in SW Florida the same way, get the same results. I put several smaller pieces in the soil and get back ten times as much. Patience is always a virtue. Another thing: when you suddenly need ginger for a recipe, you dont have to go to the grocery, you go to the back yard!
I think mainly because of the short season and lower gradual decline in the temperature. Over all i think his technique is good for growing ginger.
I thought exactly the same. It looked little more than he planted. Maybe I am wrong
This was my first year for ginger and turmeric. I am in south west Florida so sprouting doesn't happen til March or so. I want to get a head start this year as well. It is January now so at least I can grow plenty of corriander and methi, but looking forward to more of the other things soon. Thanks for your videos.
Presprout....it's super easy gives you a 2 month head start
Thank you jag, I'm going to plant ginger now. God bless you 🙏
It was my first time planting Ginger. It did well consdering i didnt watch your Video first. We did very though and out Ginger looks and smells great. Thank.you
I wouldn't recommend showering the plant in mid day sun. It works like a magnifying glass and burns the leaves more. Water early dawn before sun and dusk. Always before night because most of the root growth happens at night in the "rest" period. This is what I have found in my own experiences. 😊 loved the time lapses
Well his ginger turned out fine so apparently watering it in mid day didn't hurt it. He is the expert after all.
I grew ginger in Calif. and at the time I didn't know I was growing ginger, just a pretty flower so it was in the ground for maybe a year and then it blossomed . It has the most fragrant scent, way above any flower I ever grew. So I was surprised when I discover it was ginger I was growing and it multiplies fast. This was in West Covina Ca.
West Covina is not very cold, so it works. In central California we get a lot of frost and ginger does not make it though winter.
Short, to the point, interesting and informative. Thanks.
Exactly, right #Ronald Castillo. The leaves do dry out when the ginger is mature.
Yes, I was expecting a bigger yield, but I think you guys missed the part where he broke the ginger b4 planting.
Thanks JAG. I enjoyed the video.
Thanks for saying this, I'm not understanding the negative comments. To me the new ginger is much larger and also fresher looking.
You could try growing in grow tunnels to start, then take off the tunnel covering when it's warm enough. Or buy a cheap small greenhouse to grow your ginger, then you could start other stuff in the greenhouse too. Your local hardware store should have a greenhouse in the spring.
Great job with the young ginger!
Great idea, will try it next season :)
you know what I'm in Calgary Canada and I'm going to try this next year. I got to start in January in my house and take them out in may. thanks for this great video
Ginger Root is very expensive in the Stores, I am going to try your bucket method Thanks for sharing Love all of your Planting and Garden Videos also etc
Your enthusiasm, as well as your tips, were greatly appreciated.
You could try bringing it indoors to finish growing it. I once read that ginger takes a year but it looks like you got a pretty decent amount after the 6 months from that one small piece.
For those who haven't read his pinned comment, he broke that root into 4 before growing them each separately. That's not a bad amount of ginger from one small piece, and if left to
continue growing indoors it might even produce more
Great knowledge. The plant is gorgeous with the red in it.
It is a long time for not much. I know you had a few containers ☝🏾 Really good to know that it can be done. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing. I find the ginger flower is very nice and has very fragrant scent.
My plant never bloomed! I wonder why?
I have some 5' diameter kiddy pools. In fall I fill them with sand, leaves, grass and lots of wood chips. A couple of earth worms. Come spring I plant my ginger and by fall it is a 5'dia forest. It likes mostly shade. Tumeric grows the same way but likes more sun. My Tumeric flowered in it's 2nd year.
That's the same piece of ginger you planted with just some shoots growing off of it!
Same here 🤔🤔
That was what I about to say.
I was thinking the same thing.
I know it, it keeps fresh in the soil :)
@@chaixiyao lol 😛
Jag, love your move & smile. Always great videos.
I just got some ginger from a friend to plant and am soaking it overnight so thanks for making this video! It was very helpful. Otherwise I would've planted too deep
Awesome! Woah! That's a lot of ginger! Mostly all plants grow in summer or hot and humid conditions (approx 30 to 35degrees centigrade).
I had planted 1 inch ginger its in my bed room plenty of sun light n it is 2 feet grown n my soil is moist n it's growing perfectly , I have some qginger in my garden I had put against d wall For your showing us n teaching us how to grow ginger. God bless u.
I like fresh ginger so much as it has a special fragrance.
Wow! I am so excitingly happy to see

Ginger was my ex-flame.... She loved me, and now she loves you all😂😂
My mom always started her stuff indoors on a southern window where it gets lots of sun. she put a very small fan on low for them to grow strong.
Maybe you can do this with ginger
wow, a smart mom you had Pam, this is like a real breeze.....oh goodness.
I've done this before - a few comments: (a) this absolutely is "alot" of ginger - it's slow growing, (b) even though it's slow, it's worth it - the ginger you eat fresh out of the ground (or pot) will be unlike anything you've ever tasted from the store. My Mexican mother-in-law - who is used to heat - said it was almost too spicy for her. Crazy good!
Thank you for the guidelines and tips. My first attempt at growing ginger was a disaster. This time the growth (in a cut-and-popped tyre) is exceeding my expectation! I am hoping for a good harvest and to upgrade on the volumes next season! Pieter in RSA.
Lol...🤣😂🤣😂 After 11 months of watering (a lot!) you got as much ginger as you had sown! Sorry but I was expecting that pot full of ginger and I am totally disappointed
But his enthusiasm is endearing 😊
looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
I thought the same thing but his enthusiasm is great :)
Hilarious! I agree..
Exactly 😁
Really so much work for what
Use longer containers for way more yield as ginger tends to spread a lot. With longer containers, you tend to get forearms worth of ginger.

Grow it indoors.
Create a ‘tropical zone’ in a room in your house and keep it hot and humid. Ginger, Turmeric, Lemons, Limes, Avocados, papayas, pineapples, and so many more tropical fruits will grow wonderfully well year round in climate-controlled rooms, with the appropriate lighting setup.
This is an extremely cost effective and ‘fun’ way to grow organic tropical produce for one’s family.
Love and All Good Things,
Jesse.🌹
Yes. I made a little timer frame greenhouse - its 8x8 and I covered the outside; with the first layer being that small bubble wrap pool cover material, then 90% shade cloth. I live in the desert so not much humidity here in the summer. I placed several fog disks from www.thehouseofhydro.com inside. I am now growing two PawPaws which are tropical plants and I am pretty happy with the results, they came as 4" sticks - LOL and have already grown 2' since I received them two months ago. So I will try the ginger growing next summer, too late now. I have a small farm and I grow quite a bit with a modified Kratky system which is passive hydroponics, with air stones. I grow in 12" tree tubes that have ridges inside so they don't have the roots circling. I place it in a 2 gallon bucket with an airstone and keep the water/nutrient level under 5". The bottom 5" of the tree tube has Hydroton pebbles in it so it acts as a wick to the coir/perlite/vermiculite at the top of the tree tube. I say all this because I think my setup would be perfect for ginger growing. As we literally have about 300+ days here of sun, I don't need lights and I found, quite interestingly, that the high humidity (65-80%) from the fog disks kept everything from freezing in the winter (I live at 3400').
Will turmeric do the same thing we need both. Thank you 😊
I also grow turmeric and galangal the same way. Turmeric won’t sprout until it is warmer than for ginger or galangal.
Nice! Thank you for sharing! I love young ginger salad! I’m going to try!
All that hard work ... And wow! Thats the same ginger that was planted!
This a ginger is not much in size, but the quality looks fenomenal. I use ginger to cleanse my liver. This seems of great quality 🤗🎉
