Anyway I chop up fresh ginger into small pieces, put about a 1/2 teaspoon of the stuff in a coffee cup and add boiling water, basically a fresh ginger tea. You can refill the same ginger with more hot water a few times over. I often chop up fresh ginger into little single serve amounts, put into a tiny ziplock bags and freeze. Then when needed just take out of freezer, out of bag, add boiling water … instant pimple cure. Enjoy!
fresh ginger from garden is best. I also use the stalk and leaves for soup when I cook but don't eat the stalk bc it is tough to chew or boil and use water for bath is good for the skin
Great video, I may try growing some in Mississippi, USA next Spring 2019. My favorite use for Ginger is making homemade Ginger Ale... 1 cup sliced Ginger (steep to extract favor) add to 1 gal Water. 2 cups Sugar, 1 Lemon (juiced) 1 Lime (juiced) 1/2tsp - 1tsp yeast (More in cooler months or climates) , mix then bottle for 48-72 hrs at room temperature, burb daily, then refrigerate for the BEST Ginger Ale ever. *** NOTE: I use old flip top beer bottles & water bottles. UPDATE: I bought an masticating juicer and now make about 2 oz of ginger jucie to use per gallon (+/- to taste)
Sliced very thin and boil for 30 seconds in equal parts white vinegar and water. Take off the heat and add sugar or Splenda. Let it sit for a few minutes, hours (in the fridge) or days. I eat it with lettuce wraps, curry or straight out of the jar. Thank you for the growing tips Mark! This is my favorite channel
Thanks boss! My son and I are giving ginger a go here in FL. I really like your videos, but it's even better that he likes 'em too and is getting into gardening. Thank you.
I've been planting gingers for almost 3 years. Started of small pieces in a small container, and they've been multiplying ever year. It was fun every harvesting time. Thanks for the tips, I haven't tried any fertilizer for my gingers. I may also transfer them into full sun area.
I re-watched this video after growing a bit of store-bought ginger root for about a year and a half, in a container. After the first die-back of the foliage I thought it was dead. The leaves never got really big and were always sickly. I repotted it several months ago and have since enjoyed beautiful, lush foliage, and I keep seeing new shoots coming up. I think I will harvest some soon! Thank you for educating us on sub-tropical gardening, it has been wonderful to learn.
I enjoy your vids, even though I'm gardening in high altitude Colorado USA! I wanted to tell you that those stems and leaves you cut off your ginger when you harvested at the end of the video are edible, too! You can put them in soups and stir frys. The stalks are a bit like lemon grass.
I love watching your videos! Not only are you educational to watch, you're entertaining too! I have started watching because I would like to grow my own veggies, herbs and fruit. Since I'm 69 and have issues gardening low to the ground, I love the idea of the raised beds, that is why I started watching these videos. I am going to start soon, so have to binge watch! Thank you so much for making it seem easy and do-able. I'll let you know how my gardening goes!
Great video. Very clear and enthusiastic with your information. Ginger is known in the Chinese culture to restore energy to the body. My favorite is with cooking ginger with Pigs Feet in this special sweet vinegar. The ginger typically used is the young ginger which we called purple ginger. Thanks for the video. Will start growing some ginger myself.
Love your videos! Our favourite uses of fresh ginger: Thai (and most other) cooking; make a tea of it, with some honey, for tummy troubles; a daily jug of water with ginger; mint; basil; cucumber slices - refreshing, healthy and healing all at once!
Thank you so very much! I live in Orlando Florida. Planted Ginger in pots. Thanks to you I’m about to harvest. I love your great advice!! I love that you admit to things that didn’t work out! You are my SUPPER HERO !

Terrific as always Mark... I always learn something from you. Thank you!! My absolute favorite way to use ginger is blended with my green drinks... As much ginger as I can handle along with some spinach, kale and some fruit, be it apples, bananas, grapes, strawberries, pears, berries or whatever is in season. Great pick me up mid-day or anytime really.
I can't believe my luck a fellow queenslander yay. I've been wanting to become self sufficient but have been struggling. Thanks to you I feel like I stand a chance. And ginger is one of my favourite things! This is so awesome 👍❤️
Ginger a good choice guessing cause of stress ATM. Did U end growing it? Would like grow as presents for family or sell online either the harvested or the whole plant. For me motivation is low but think should be self sufficient a bit, grow extra so can swap maybe for other stuff. Society weird ATM.
Great video Mark. I planted fresh ginger in a large grow bag(nz) subtropical. End of March now and I am going to harvest😄 now as I thought I had to wait for plant to die down. Top tip, Keep current ginger tuber in freezer and grate as needed. ❣️ With herb tea, lemon verbena/honey.
Good stuff mark, thanks for the inspiration, I'll get some ginger down in pots (indoors) over winter here in the UK and see how they fare into spring. Absolutely love all your videos, you're a crusader for the cause that is self sufficiency!
Hello sir, I just start my organic life and found out your channel. I watch all your video from start till the end because every single minutes in your video very usefull and funny 😆, Thankyou sir ❤
I'm glad I've found your channel. This is another valuable video of yours that I've watched tonight. Thank you! I love ginger, I use it for tea, I also cut a big junk of ginger and cook it in soup, learned this from my late Mom, she said it would help to make us digest the food better and also it adds a nice flavor to our food.
Just start growing ginger for the first time and I am so excited to see them popping up through the ground. We eat a lot of ginger in cooking, tea, and drinks. See I'm from the island but never actually planted these before. Thanks for all the great info.
Thank you so much for the clear tips! I enjoy ginger tea: hot, lukewarm, or iced. I'll be trying it with fresh mint and/or fresh lemon balm this afternoon as those herbs have taken off. I planted my first ginger today, so I'm waiting for my first little green sprout baby to be born! 😍
I literally love this channel so much. I learn so much and he’s so down to earth. I have a lot of ginger that is sprouting on my counter and I was wanting to try it out. Thanks for the video! I’m going to plant it tomorrow! My favorite way to use ginger is I juice it and make ginger ale out of water kefir. I combine it with lemon, a tiny bit of honey and then bottle it with a bit of sugar and water kefir. The water kefir probiotics consume the sugar and it makes it a fizzy pop. My children are very picky and absolutely adore “mommy’s ginger ale”
I like putting a few slices in a cup of green tea. My now deceased mum swore by it as she battled years of cancer and it helped her for over 2 decades. Great production 😊
This was a very informative video. I can see how passionate you are about what you do, this is why you are so good at teaching. Keep it up, I appreciate it very much.
I live in the eastern northern part of the USA, so when I buy ginger I find it very convenient to store it in the freezer. It grates very well and easily. Besides using it in cooking I love to boil some water and using a micro grater grate some into a cup and make a tea, then either add honey or stevia to sweeten it up a bit. There is nothing better for the digestive track than ginger.
Great explaining of the whole gingercycle. From soil, planting, watering, growing, harvesting, storing upto eating it. Even mentioning the different climates. Very helpfull. Thank you.
My favorite way to use ginger is in soup--taking care to add at end as boiling gingerv destroys anti-microbial action. Also, for respiratory ailments, ginger compress is excellent to chase cold from chest and sinuses with its fantastic ability to create circulation of lymph and blood where energy is stuck and stagnant. I just discovered your excellent "tubes". Thank you.
Thank you! You gave me back the spirit to grow ginger and produce ginger ale, and with all your knowledge and tips i'm sure you will give my girlfriend back her energy to start planning the spring garden as the snow starts to melt!
Hello from Arizona! So happy to have watched your clear instructional video. I look forward to growing some ginger. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Have a blessed day, Olivia
Thank you a great video ! I love to put ginger in my smoothies with just about everything , fruit and veg . I also like to make a healthy icecrean using frozen bananas , a little coconut milk , fresh ginger , carob powder and fresh mint leaves or native spearmint is great too ~ I throw it all in the Nutri bullet , blend , and it's just like a spicy minty chocolate icecream . You can add any extra fruit to this for variety . Adding sultanas and walnuts once mixed really adds to the eating pleasure !!
Thank you for your video, I'm planting ginger, garlic and turmeric. My favourite way to use ginger is ginger tea. I'm going to look for all your videos you explain things well, straight the point thanks again.
He makes it so simple. Wish I had seen these videos year's ago. But never mind, I am going to have a go now. Garlic and ginger. Great video. Yes an Australian is the best teacher. Nice man. Beautiful garden.
like ur ginger video .everything u said is rite on ...I grew ginger in fkorida on farm in panhandle since 1940 and we grew the ginger in 55 gal.barrels full of to die for black soil both out in the sun directky and partly shaded. I have always had problems breathibg but I make ginger tea and somtimes even mix into my morning coffee ...bow wow cup and guess what I don't hav breathing probkems like I used to have even ashma and double pnemonea etc. yes I drink ginger tea every day over 75 years now and I believe I am healthier because of ginger but I also have gone mostly vegan and big on fruits and veggies. also I am getting interested in yoga and praying rosary doing meditation which totally turns me into a decent happier human being instead of that other ....:)
You're great man! I love your tutorials and I would say that you are Australian, right? I'm now jumping in this world of growing food, being self-sufficient step by step and I'm loving it! I must say thanks to Aussie and to farms for this! By yhe way, my favorite way to eat ginger is in soups, to stir fry something with garlic and chili or candied! Thanks for this video!! Have a nice day
Hi Mark. Love your posts. I put ginger powder and other spices into my coffee before adding it to the milk. My fav is a dash of cayenne pepper, powdered ginger, nutmeg and tumeric into the mug, add the coffee from the machine and stir. Pour over fothed milk. I use almond milk. Yummy!

My most frequent use, pure ginger "tea" with bits in :) also sometimes a little ginger in an otherwise mostly lemon balm and mint (of course also from the garden) "tea", I cook various asian dishes regularly as well and those often call for ginger especially since I make things like curry pastes myself instead of storebought.
I do the same, but I make in bulk and freeze in ice cubes trays and store. Ginger root and quartered lemon all parts in a pots of boiled water steeping all day tell everything is soft, blend in my ninja blender tell smooth, strain off pulp same pulp and store in freezer. My mix is concentrated I freeze in ice trays and store in freezer bags. Drink 2-3 cubes to 32oz of water. I'm a diabetic so I add stevia to mine. If you like it sweeter stevia is sweet the white cane sugar. It great in a glass of green tea. (1 or 2 cubes) depending on how concentrated your lemon ginger mix is.
Very informative! I sometimes use grated ginger, turmeric, horseradish and garlic in apple cider vinegar, along with black pepper and other herbs to mix up the taste. Store in a covered jar. It will keep for weeks in the refrigerator. A teaspoon straight as a tonic helps with digestive and respiratory issues. It can also be used as a base for salad dressing. A teaspoon or more in a bowl of beans is pretty good too.
minced ginger, lemongrass, thinly julienned lime leaf, chili, salt, and crushed pepper into chicken, ready to grill, fry, or steam with amazing stimulating taste
I use ginger in spice tea as a base with cinnamon bark, cardamon, fenugreek seed, cloves, etc. I also love it in coconut milk soup and veggie stir fry. I love ginger. Oh and its a main ingredient in my carrot apple ginger juice and also Kale apple lime ginger juice. I wish I could grow it here in the cool shady forest of the Pacific NW USA (west of Seattle). I wonder if it would work in the clear cuts where there is lots of sun. Just gotta get it enough water in the dry weeks.
Thanks so much for this video! Here is some thing really really cool about Ginger, If you get a cheap planter or even a washing up bowl. Use exactly the same method you use for growing it. But leave it undisturbed for about 1-2 years and you will get the most awesome sweet smelling flowers ever. You can harvest some seeds and grow them and by doing this you will get seeds plants more suitable to your local environment. Useful if living in a temperate climate, Just take the whole planter indoors and keep dry over winter. Very important not to cut the old stems in any way. Just leave totally undisturbed, It some times takes a few good years for the plant to send up flowering stems, But well worth the wait.
Thank you!...Ive been searching for some wisdom on the subject. Do they need much light in the winter? We get some in the morning most days..then it stays gray till dark.
How I use my fresh ginger. I have to have a heart and both lungs transplant. I already have multiple stents in my heart. I asked a eastern medicine doctor for a natural treatment that I could use to keep my heart vessels clean and clear. I can't take medications for it I have had allergic reactions. He suggested I take fresh ginger peal in and grind it in a smoothie maker. I take one full teaspoon daily and I have not had any more blockages since I started taking the ginger. Also, the blockages they were going to stent ended up desolving before my procedures were done. About six moths of daily dosing cleaned every thing out. I mix the ginger paste with an equal amount of apple sauce and do two teaspoons of it. The apple sauce cuts the strength down so it's easier to take. I follow it with 8 oz of water. Enjoy the benefits of healthy vessels.

Enjoy!
Ginger beer: fermented couple weeks wth cane sugar, champagne yeast ,& pinapple juice
H.Celeste N that sounds good 😋
Made some while in Mexico this winter. It is, as the kids say, Most Awesome.
Delicious!
fresh ginger from garden is best. I also use the stalk and leaves for soup when I cook but don't eat the stalk bc it is tough to chew or boil and use water for bath is good for the skin
nice tip!
Oh cool!
I had no idea ginger was this easy to grow yourself! I can't wait to try it out myself, thank you!
Shane J McNair how’d it go Mississippi? NW Arkansas here 😊
Shane, can we replace 1 tsp yeast with sourdough yeast instead. Appreciate it if you could advice. From Malaysia
@@madelinkoh Yes, any yeast will work to start the carbonation process. Different yeast will only impart different characteristics in flavor. Enjoy.
@@eljenison7312 So far so good, making more Ginger Ale during Covid-19 Lockdown...
This brother has great love for faming could feel his vibes

Sliced very thin and boil for 30 seconds
in equal parts white vinegar and water.
Thank you.
Try bitter ginger, also called pinecone Lilly I live in FL as well and it does better than the standard cullinary variety and tastes better
Hi Heather, where in CO? We came from Aspen to Australia. There is a great No-till farm in Carbondale if you are near there. Called Wild Seeds.
Informative thanks!
Heather I am also growing things in Colorado!!! Thanks for your advice. As soon as my ginger grows I will do this
Tq for the useful info... Otherwise I would have thrown out those stems nd leaves
Thank you for mentioning that the stalks are edible. I was wondering if they were. Thanks again!
I just wanted to say, you really make me smile! I love your energy!
Thank you Jaqueline! :)
Btw...I am from Malaysia. We usually boil clear chicken soup with it. Asians use ginger in almost every dishes. :-)
So more on how do you use it?
I’m from the Philippines and we this too. We usually add either sayote or very young green papaya and moringa leaves. Yum! 😋
Yum.... Malaysian cuisine 😋

Every morning in my healthy breakfast I have a palm full of cubed ginger . With Turmeric , it fights inflammation and tastes fresh and delicious
Love you Mark, sensible advice, lots of experience and the most comfortable information delivery technique. It’s just a joy to watch and listen.
I love Ginger in vegetable soups with beef or chicken it is truly a gift from God. Thanks for the video I plan to try your method of planting and growing the ginger. Stan
Great descriptions! I put grated ginger in my smoothies every morning, and lemon water in the evening.
Just found some ginger that started to sprout, I make Elderberry Syrup for the winter. I searched UA-cam and your channel gave wonderful concise directions for planting. This will be my first time to plant ginger and I’m 71, learn something new everyday. New Subscriber! I’m in Oregon, U.S.A.
wonderful video!!! thank u very much, i live in Berlin (Germany) and i'm trying to grow my own ginger... so far so good (or gut;) w all your help, pls keep doing videos, you are a natural teacher. cheers! veronica
Simple language very much useful for me as a beginner Thanks
Thank you for such excellent tips! I used gingers for tea, hot toddy, gingers stir fry with sesame oil chicken, beef stew, Indian curries, bloated stomach, sore throats, and etc. And you are right the gingers element benefit so many good stuff for our body.
Ginger and pineapple. Amazing!
With herb tea, lemon verbena/honey.
Good stuff mark, thanks for the inspiration, I'll get some ginger down in pots (indoors) over winter here in the UK and see how they fare into spring.
Absolutely love all your videos, you're a crusader for the cause that is self sufficiency!
You can always trust a true Aussie. Cheers from Melbourne.
Hello sir, I just start my organic life and found out your channel. I watch all your video from start till the end because every single minutes in your video very usefull and funny 😆, Thankyou sir ❤
you can also use the shoots stems and leaves in your food soup and as teas!!
Thank you for this video! Watching with my young sons so they can plant ginger in their garden. Perfect instruction for home-schoolers.
Thanks for this great video. We use heaps of ginger on a daily basis, especially in our first cup of organic tea every morning.
Thanks Wilma! :)
Thanks a lot for those tips. I'm about to plant ginger cos I love ginger so much.
I like putting a few slices in a cup of green tea. My now deceased mum swore by it as she battled years of cancer and it helped her for over 2 decades. Great production 😊
watching your videos inspires me to start my own fruit and vegetable garden.
This was a very informative video. I can see how passionate you are about what you do, this is why you are so good at teaching. Keep it up, I appreciate it very much.
I love ginger in my teas, coffees and salads plus desserts, well everything. Lots of Love, Light and Laughter Forever!
Great to have a "local" instructor, particularly for an absolute novice like me. Really looking forward to into more.
Thank you.
My favourite base, onions ,garlic,ginger
My favorite way to use ginger is in soup--taking care to add at end as boiling gingerv destroys anti-microbial action. Also, for respiratory ailments, ginger compress is excellent to chase cold from chest and sinuses with its fantastic ability to create circulation of lymph and blood where energy is stuck and stagnant. I just discovered your excellent "tubes". Thank you.
Irene Herzmark hi there, how do you make a ginger compress?
Thank you! You gave me back the spirit to grow ginger and produce ginger ale, and with all your knowledge and tips i'm sure you will give my girlfriend back her energy to start planning the spring garden as the snow starts to melt!
GREAT video from the BEST youtuber! Starting tomorrow because i love juicing with ginger!
I would like to make ginger beer. This video has been a great help with lots of information and handy tips.Thank you
Hello from Arizona!
Do u freeze it before eating it?
Great idea!
Love it! I like to cook fish with ginger and garlic and a little Hy's seasoning salt and organic olive oil. Can't wait to grow my own.
Thank you for your video, I'm planting ginger, garlic and turmeric. My favourite way to use ginger is ginger tea. I'm going to look for all your videos you explain things well, straight the point thanks again.
Love ginger! Can't make chinese food without it. Also love salad dressing made with it. Soo good! TFS I am going to try to grow it.
Man I would love to go in my garden and call this guys name and he comes running rescue me with my garden mistakes. He is so patient 👍
Lol, yeah. I can just hear him saying "not to worry, you didn't stuff it up!"
He makes it so simple.
Wish I had seen these videos year's ago. But never mind, I am going to have a go now.
Garlic and ginger.
Great video.
Yes an Australian is the best teacher.
Nice man. Beautiful garden.

Yummy!
Just for fun, trim off a few perfect leaves and wrap some fish in them. Bake, steam or grill it.
Save a small leaf or two to garnish your plates, too.

After two different video ginger searches, YOU SIR are the best for telling me what I needed to know!! THANK YOU!!
I drink grated ginger and lemon tea every night. I also cook with a lot of ginger
Love your videos, I use ginger chopped up in my tea. And while I drink I can chew on the bits that float. Great stuff.
Oh, please share how.... and measurements of each ingredient. Thank you

Talk about master cleanse!
Yum!
This is the first year that I am going to try and grow ginger. I love your tips. Thanks for making these videos. My first time 2021.

I like to purée into sautéed veggies and I use the skins in bone broths. Also I use it fresh in dressings. Thank you for another clear tutorial!!
Thank you for your advise. Interesting. Going to try it for myself. Very interesting.
Wow, amazing! All the best! Unfortunately I loath ginger!
Good advice, man.
For heart related drink marutham pattai (Tamil language sidda medicine )botonicale name is terminalia arjuna )monthly once
you can mix ginger with garlic 1:1 too and cook with it....mostly base of may thai and delicious vietnamese meals....
I love to watch your planting instruction. It’s fun and short.
Wonderful videos!! What a gift you are to the world. You suggested ginger recipes in the comments: An easy favorite of mine is grated carrots with a handful of raisins, grated ginger, and lemon juice. Add a pinch salt and of sugar to taste and you have a lovely fresh, bright salad/slaw that keeps well in the fridge!
