I can confirm this method works 100% I tried it Nov 2020 and used x2 small ginger nubs that each had a small sprout. I put a 1/4 old leftover onion from my fridge and placed the x2 sprouted nubs in a ziploc baggy. To my surprise only few days later both nubs had grown many small roots. They are in soil pot now about 6cm with few leaves already!! Thank you!! 🙏

Thank you so much for posting this video. I have been watching several videos about planting store bought ginger before I try to grow mine but you had so much MORE valuable information NOT mentioned in any other UA-cam videos! And as incredible as it sounds, at 56 years old I have never heard anyone promote using onion to encourage root growth! Ever more surprising, I had never heard that you should not store onion with other root vegetables! If you were standing in my kitchen right now you would see a wire basket holding my onions, garlic, potatoes and ginger!! Some of which have roots growing by the time I am ready to use it. Now I understand why. Can you share a video sharing how you learned your knowledge of growing foods? Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙏

Nice job. Going to buy turmeric and ginger root this weekend to try. You gave me idea to sprout potatoes by putting in onion slices in brown paper bag, today. Subbed and liked video. Thanks
Starting my ginger ASAP. Before I would plant the whole root and it was a waste of ginger. I figured you could divide them up like potatoe eyes I can’t wait to get this started!! Ginger needs a long growing season!
Definitely trying this, I’ve put my ginger in a cool dark place to encourage the eyes to sprout now. Previously I’ve seen videos saying to cut the ginger and place it in a bowl of water half covering the ginger...I ended up with rot and no roots. This looks promising because there is no submerging in water, just damp air environment in the tub. It tracks with other videos promoting air layering and rooting roses and dogwood plants using darkened tub with moist soil.
Hi Jasmijn, yes we tried it and it worked! They all sprouted, however I wasn’t sure how long to leave them growing, and when do you know it’s time to harvest?
I grew supermarket ginger outside in large pots in Florida, USA where it was Sunny, hot humid and it rained a lot. I did not harvest the ginger as we moved away before it was fully grown. There were a couple of large plants. I just broke the fingers into separate pieces and planted the ginger in potting mix.
This is better than wasting whole ginger as I’ve seen with other videos. Soaking whole ginger for it to root. True about onions. Your the first I’ve seen that actually added onions
I finally got some Ginger nubs to start growing, for a while I gave up & just left them in the greenhouse. I was surprised to see the roots growing out like 3 weeks later.
You explain and demonstrate so well and do so in a few minutes that I can budget easily! Well done. I subscribed to your channel because of this video. Thank you.

My experience using this method is quite frustrating. I learned from my own planting that we should not cut ginger into small pieces just like what is done in this video.
