    I can confirm this method works 100% I tried it Nov 2020 and used x2 small ginger nubs that each had a small sprout. I put a 1/4 old leftover onion from my fridge and placed the x2 sprouted nubs in a ziploc baggy. To my surprise only few days later both nubs had grown many small roots. They are in soil pot now about 6cm with few leaves already!! Thank you!! 🙏

    Thank you so much for posting this video. I have been watching several videos about planting store bought ginger before I try to grow mine but you had so much MORE valuable information NOT mentioned in any other UA-cam videos!
    And as incredible as it sounds, at 56 years old I have never heard anyone promote using onion to encourage root growth! Ever more surprising, I had never heard that you should not store onion with other root vegetables! If you were standing in my kitchen right now you would see a wire basket holding my onions, garlic, potatoes and ginger!! Some of which have roots growing by the time I am ready to use it. Now I understand why.
    Can you share a video sharing how you learned your knowledge of growing foods? I know that a lot of this rich knowledge is passed through generations but a lot of American families rarely get exposed to multigenerational teaching, learning and understanding.

  • @Infiniti25
    @Infiniti25 3 роки тому +16

    Definitely trying this, I’ve put my ginger in a cool dark place to encourage the eyes to sprout now. Previously I’ve seen videos saying to cut the ginger and place it in a bowl of water half covering the ginger...I ended up with rot and no roots. This looks promising because there is no submerging in water, just damp air environment in the tub.
    It tracks with other videos promoting air layering and rooting roses and dogwood plants using darkened tub with moist soil.

    • @Footprintsinthegarden

      @@krismaturker6709 it is believe that onion / shallot has a high concentration of auxin & gibberellin hormone which responsible for root growth, although there is no scientific prove to it (yet) it has traditionally been use in promoting root growth for rhizome, cutting, air layering technique etc..because the concentration is too high that is why it is not encourage to store potato (especially) because it will make it sprout so fast if you keep them together.

    My experience using this method is quite frustrating. I learned from my own planting that we should not cut ginger into small pieces just like what is done in this video. For it takes a long time for the ginger to grow though they sprout. Instead have a one whole, big, firm ginger with many nodes and you can find them in grocery stores. You can plant it in the soil directly and this kind and method is the one that grows fast.

    Oh my goodness!!!!!
    I am thanking the Lord for you!!!!!!
    Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!
    I saw someone soak the ginger first, but it didn't seem like or look like a good idea!
    I'm thinking this would also work with Turmeric.
    I do wonder if putting all things in with onion will help them root faster?????
    Thank you so much for doing this video. I just put my ginger in a paper bag in a cool dark cabinet!!!

    Very nicely done the way she got so many potential plants off of that one piece and still had a large portion left over for cooking
