I’m not even a teacher and I would’ve quit also! If the kids you all have to teach are the same kids that use TikTok for all of their education, I can’t even imagine dealing with them in real life! They think they know everything but are so uneducated and lack basic thinking skills! And when you try to inform them, they tell you that you’re wrong because “TikTok said..” WHAT?! I had one tell me that my degree in Psychology didn’t mean anything because textbooks are false doctrine written by racist white people. HUH!!!!????? As an elder millennial, I am almost certain their parents had the same anti intellectual attitude as they do.

Good for you. I resigned from being a college professor for 20 years for the same reasons that K-12 teachers are leaving. Students carry their lack of respect and sense of entitlement to college bc they have been programmed to believe it is okay. Then, the administrators stand by them bc they see them as dollar signs and don't want to lose the revenue or face litigation. It is really sad. My daughter is 18 and sometimes I feel so badly that she was born at this time in history. I wish I could take her back in time, but all I can do is continue to support her and guide her to the best of my ability.

I just want to say that while teaching is very draining, there are still teachers that love it, including myself. This short just popped up for me today, so that's why I'm commenting almost a year later. I don't blame teachers for leaving the classroom. They have to do what's best for them. However, I still love my job and know many other teachers who do as well. I would be lying to you if I told you that I've never thought about leaving teaching, but I feel that God still needs me in the classroom. For those who are thinking about going into teaching, I would talk to multiple teachers about the realities of being in the classroom but know that everyone's experience is different. We still need good teachers, and I hope that the education system will see positive changes in they years to come.

A major part of the problem for me is how the board keeps making cuts to the budget and asking us to perform duties for which we aren’t qualified to perform. All my experiences working in a classroom before that, I've observed the burnt out and the lack of student respect and lack of administrative support at every school I went to. Student teaching was the final realization for me. I love teaching and working with families, but I'm glad I didn't become a K-12 teacher. Now, I am a licensed mental health therapist where I get to teach children and families and spread awareness about mental health. The environment is so much healthier for me, which helps me be more effective at what I do. If you're that worried because of the negatives, then I would look into having an exit plan that you can do with your educator's degree. If you find like 2 plans that are satisfying or at least acceptable then you should be able to carry on with your degree with an eased heart. I did that with accounting (what I am studying) after a bunch of articles told me AI would take over accounting and I would never have a job. I found some alternatives and am still pursuing my degree knowing I have backups if what those articles say is true.

So glad you did this ! I am in teaching for ten years. I think many teachers stay because the narrative is ti accept that you are being burdened with BS and if you don’t you suffer from a lack of character….I mean how toxic ! One day too I will fly on out of here. I love the teaching, I love the learning. But all the other circus tricks…nah uh! No no

lol I dipped after 1yr. I got another bachelors and a masters and work as a clinical scientist now. I doubled my salary (100+k) and I don’t have to deal with people’s bad a55 kids anymore calling me a B-word to my face. Watch your own kids.

You look like a wonderful person and a joy to be in the classroom. I hope the kids were grateful for you but I can never judge a fellow teacher for walking away for any reason they feel is right. And let no one tell you otherwise.

Pls let me know. I also want to quit my teaching job but I get very lazy in the holidays and don't want to live all the days like that. 🙏🙏

While I'm glad she chose herself, I wonder, what was her original reason for choosing this career. Yes, the education system (nationwide), is questionable. However, think about the children that could use your guidance, your instruction, etc. Teaching can be a challenge, but to last in this field, you must have the heart. Seeing teachers resign, in a short amount of time, disheartens me😢.

  • @EngineerMikeF

Either you are not cut out to teach OR you were dumped into a wasteful system with little or no teacher development support. Success Academy (NYC based) has a system of constant, real time support & feedback you can read about, MISSION POSSIBLE, that shows how teachers are the 1 & only key to excellence in education with constant feedback& improvementbeing the key to the key. If that sounds enticing, read the book, maybe its the solution.
