beautiful workmanship. As a retired mechanical engineer, combat veteran of Vietnam and a Unimat owner I would like to support Vietnam's recovery from that horrific war if these tool boxes and chip plate were available for purchase. in the meantime Mr. Pete keep up the great work. I enjoy your style and education. thanks again,
That's a beautiful lathe station 👍The Tekbox web site says they design telemetry instruments but have developed in-house manufacturing in order to speed up their design and testing cycle. It looks like they designed this lathe station to help their in-house machinists work better (rather than deciding "let's create something to sell"). The photos your donor sent fit that idea. I suspect this station will prove to be as near to perfect as any product could be. Fantastic demonstration, thanks for sharing Mr Pete 👏
Sweet pairing with the Unimat and bamboo chest! The backsplash really surprised me! I’m setting up a Sherline lathe and mill that are destined for use in a condo, and this gives me a really great idea of how to store the minutiae that accompany the machines without being unsightly! Thanks for another great Unimat video!
Thanks Mr Pete! Just picked up a Unimat and converted it to a dedicated roller skate wheel regroover/resurfacer for my wife’s wheel collection, with your help🥰
I would like to thank you for the many positive comments. The lathe stand is not a commercial product. As soon as I get the time, I will create a website with the drawings for those who want to build a copy. If there is a lot of interest, I could look at making a batch. However, I would also need to find a way to ship, export, and distribute it without adding unreasonable costs.
I think sharing the drawings (if you don't mind doing so) is tthe best option for us over here in EU or the USA, and as you mention, it will save you some headache figuring out how to ship and export from Vietnam. Frankly, as much as I'd like to have one delivered to my door, it is just not worth the hassle for you to sell just a few dozens of them.
Beautiful bamboo box! I've visited Vietnam twice, beautiful country, and with very friendly people who have a culture of craftsmanship that is just amazing. Michael, you are to be commended for your generosity, very kind of you!
These tiny lathes are just adorable. I keep coming close to buying a tiny lathe just to learn a new hobby, Every time one under $100 is for sale near me it seems I'm always just 5 minutes too late on offering to buy.
I think it would be cool if you continued the series on the unimat. Even if you don't end up doing it exactly how you originally intended, some videos on using, maintaining, and just generally keeping after that machine would be very cool and would surely gain veiws over time as people are becoming more interested in machining as a hobby. Especially with that very nice chest and chip guard, with your name no less! Very cool 😎
I swear - i helped my wife by a 3rd sewing machine just yesterday. Used Janome. Very nice. My Unimat hangs out in the basement. Thats a nice box/chip tray.
Nicely crafted toolbox and stand for the Unimat from Vietnam. Currently I've been reworking a wooden stand that came with my watchmaker's lathe I recently won the bid on on Ebay. Along with being a hobby machinist, I'm also a hobby watchmaker and got to the point where I needed a lathe to do certain kinds of repairs on watches. The lathe I have takes 8mm collets.
I would love to get one of these beautiful drawer stands for my SL. Really a fine piece of craftsmanship and so practical. Keep these Unimat videos coming!
Good morning Lyle, That’s one beautifully crafted tool box. It certainly is better than the lumber that you had the Unimat mounted to. Congratulations.
I am currently rebuilding my Unimat DB200. While it won't get the same use as my Grizzly, it will be a beautiful addition to the home shop. Nice donations, Pete!
That's a very clever idea and nice workmanship. Most people think of bamboo as sticks but they grow pretty big and make good lumber for projects like this.
That's a beautiful box Mr.Pete, always enjoy your videos. I have bought two (2) bamboo shelves from Lowe's at 1-1/2 thickness for a DIY rack I made with galvanized pipes for legs and cross bracing and I have to say , they are super heavy duty . Thanks for your content .
Ah, the Unimat Challenge continues! That is a lovely box. I have a bunch of older Makita woodworking tools that come in neatly finger-jointed boxes; I thought about making some out of baltic birch but bamboo looks nice as well.
Nice litte box with drawers. If I still had my Unimat I would have ordered one. For my little Unimat 3 I made a movable unit mounting it on piece of thick benchtop sheet. When not in use it could be put under a bench we had in the kitchen, wich at that time combined witt my workshop. Our living room combined with my wifes standing weawing loom. We lived in a combo with two children. A friend of mine moved his workshop for making model ship to order to Vietnam. He stayed in this country and if they had problems he could advice them by phone and video camera.
Wow! What a gift! You keep going small while I keep going bigger. My projects are delayed over a long time due to my competing interests. I keep finding fun projects and tempting upgrades. I have a nephew-in-law that is far more skillful in his hobby life than me. We shop talk infrequently. We live 1000 miles apart. It felt like time to review my project status with him. I was surprised to show him photos of how much I have completed since our last shop photo tours. Your Arnfest notice triggered my interest. I have never attended. It comes at a bad time for my calendar. I reviewed the pre-registration list, and only knew you. I saw some recurrent names from previous years. Some are from my area. Please give us your version of what to expect if I attend next year. Did you sell much at the swap meet?
wow that is wonderful!!! Talk about an awesome upgrade. Thank you Mike! The unimat is a sweet little machine, who doesn't want one, even if it gets seldom use, its nice to have to use on those one offs.
Absolutely Spectacular!! I have the "Unimat lathe" and all the extras.I mounted mine on a old desk which works out perfect with all the drawers. Just a side note, I have a precision drill press like yours. The slightly newer one.I just had to install a new line cord.Back to perfect condition.
Having the back splash at an angle is a REAL good idea. Those that come on the Chinese mini lathes are vertical and make things very crowded especially when you are trying to clean the machine. While a vertical back splash is common for large machines, space around the lathe is still roomy. It just doesn't scale down very well for a small lathe. That angle really opens things up and is one of those things where I lament "why didn't I think of that?"
That's a very nice gift. Definitely a slick setup for the little Unimat. Almost need another drawer on it to fit all the accessories. You always have the cool stuff, Tubalcain. I wonder how accurate those little machines can hold?
Wow, you are a tolerant man! Thank you so very much. That’s my entire body of work over 16 years. Except of course for my video courses. Keep watching.
I love these little lathes. Hopefully no one crucifies me for this but I’ve gotten a lot of use out of a unimat lathe I converted (sacrificed?) to an abrasive grinder. I use it to cut and grind hardened steel. I can do small work in this lathe that no one else can do for me but it lives in the abrasive section of the shop and lives a bit of a hard life.
Nice little lathe Lyle, and the workmanship on the box is fantastic, I have always been interested in the many uses of bamboo, from socks to building scaffolding it is an amazing fast growing Grass!! Tony from Western Australia 🇦🇺
@@mrpete222 I believe during ww2 the japanese staked POW, s over a bamboo plant and as bamboo grows so fast.... What a torture! My father was in Changi POW camp during ww2 (Bridge over the river Kwai) that would not have been an experience anybody should have had to be in
That is a very impressive set-up when it was all completed. And now you will need to find another use for that "pathetic home made stand"! I thought your first one was perfectly suitable for a piece of shop equipment. But WOW that Tek Box really shows off the lathe.
Ive got little lathe on my kitchen table. Us single guys can get away with stuff like that. Also a little drill press and crappy little saw (a rockwell....upside down jigsaw really....better than nothing I guess) . And no place to eat dinner.
Very nice 🙂. Vietnam is in the ascent of a manufacturing boom at the moment. Taking a lot of work previously made in China. Good luck to them. 👍🇳🇱
👍
China: if you don't like it, go somewhere else.
Companies: [starts moving their production to other countries]
China: [surprised pikachu face]
Hmmm seems like that communist countries are industrializing how strange
...BULLSHIT!!! SOME OF US HAVE LONG MEMORIES...(!)
@@daleburrell6273 are you saying china is not and has not been industrializing
What a beautiful gift and that bamboo is really tuff stuff.

I guess that’s what they’re doing. It was not explained to me.
I searched their website and I don't think that these boxes are available for purchase, but I wish that they were.

I’m so glad you have been encouraged by this gift! You encourage many of us.
Thank you
What an awesome gesture of friendship. Well deserved.
What a beautiful box! Makes a handy little workstation!
Wow isn't that just sweet,a big shout out to Michael, thanks for the video🤗😎🤗😎

Even after all these years. You’re still my favorite.
Thank you very much

I just acquired a Unimat SL from my Late friend. It's a cute little thing and I'm so grateful to have it. I'll be going over your videos, thank you.
Always a pleasure to see one tradesman acknowledge another trade , ❤ .
😀 Wow, that's a nice gift Mr. Pete. It makes for a much better experience running the Unimat.
Yes it does!
Awesome gift for an awesome teacher.
That is a very nice setup you have. It’s nice to know that you have friends all around the world Mr Pete.
😀😀
😊 I watch all your videos. Especially the ones that helped me restore my Craftsman 12" lathe a few years ago.
That is awesome!
That is a very nice setup with the new box, it looks like a beautiful piece of functional artwork.

I certainly did not

It’s a beautiful little lathe set up box and all very nice . Thanks Mr. Pete
oh wow, those boxes would be a great accessory for any unimat owners, I see its also got the hole pattern for a unimat 3, so very useful.
Good morning Lyle,
That’s one beautifully crafted tool box.
It certainly is better than the lumber that you had the Unimat mounted to.
Congratulations.
That is an awesome little setup.
As a professional woodworker that looks an excellent gift. Organised tooling gets the job done with pleasure not frustration
That's an inspiring little tool stand, it sure makes it all look official.
A wonderful gift and hopefully it let's you know that you are followed and loved across the world.

It's good to see you doing well after that covid experience. I had it last year but it didn't affect me nearly as badly as it did you.

Thanks for watching!

Thank you for the interesting look at that awesome bamboo box.
Glad you enjoyed it

Beautiful craftsmanship. That box could almost pass for household furniture instead of something from a machine shop.
Saw the small metal box at the swap meet and now know why it was for sale. Very nice upgrade!
I just picked up a little unimat a few days ago and I've been very excited to get it all cleaned up, and tinker. Loved the stainless chip tray
👍👍
I really like the bamboo box . Very nice.
That's a great box/stand. Very nice.
By watching this video I have now watch almost every video starting with your first one back in 2006 ish

Looking forward to upcoming videos in this series, pushing the capabilities of this classic machine.
Beautiful box. The lathe looks great mounted to it.
Awesome gift. Hope to see more of it in the future!
Incredible luck and good people!
That stand is beautiful!
Amazing tool box! Perfect for a small machine. I am sure some will copy the concept
This is a beautiful tidy kit. Now I want one

You make me want stuff I don’t need Mr Pete. 😊
I'll let you tell the little wife about the sewing machine. Let us know how that works out. 😊 Keep um coming. Thanks for your time.
Wonderful gift😊👍
I also like that original Uni-mat shipping box. I love boxes like that.
Good looking setup. I would say maybe add a chip brush holder and a little scupper with a tray to sweep the chips into on the side.
Beautiful craftsmanship!
Love the unimat content. Please keep it coming!
Very cool and very well crafted box 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice workmanship.
excellent craftsmanship mike👍
Awesome, very happy for you Mr Pete.
Thank you for all your time and effort. 1in7

I went to their website. Nothing about this product. Hopefully it is forthcoming. I’d like one for my Unimat.
Was thinking that myself.
Nice set up Mr. Pette
Lyle - That is one slick solution. Enjoy it.
Very nice setup. You're correct, a hobbyist starting out in machining could have this setup inside their house or apartment.

Very true!
I love my SL, especially the auto feed.
Yes, so happy I found one with the auto feed option, makes it feel like a bigger lathe😎
I’m a sucker for boxes of all sorts, but that one is a beauty!
Very nice Mr. Pete!🙂
