  • This has been a situation that's been brewing for a long while, and I've avoided talking about it with ever fiber of my being. But at this point, I need you all to know the truth, even if it's very hard for me to talk about. This video is going to seem very personal, and it is, but I hope everyone can understand that I've been forced to tell the actual story in order to stop lies from being spread.

This is definitely the 3rd side of the story that would be helpful to hear: what did the other collaborators on this video series think of Quentin's behavoir?
She says Quentin was knowingly and purposefully underpaying/overworking her, while Quentin says he wasn't even aware that she had such grievances until well after the fact. Now the only possible side of the story that's left is what did the other editors and members of the team think of the working conditions.
From what it sounds like, Quentin did his best to learn what fair and reasonable compensation and work schedules looked like, and while he may have fumbled in the beginning, he has since formed a healthy and productive work environment for all involved. It seems like what may have been missing here was more clear and open communication regarding the job expectations and professional relationship before and especially DURING the actual editing job, not after all was said and done.
I hope more team members will come out in the future to share their personal experiences working for the channel and what they thought of the work environment so that we can all form a more well informed opinion on what went wrong here and how it could have been prevented, if at all, as well as what can be done moving forward to keep this type of situation from occurring again.
Quinton concluded by asking his team to communicate with him should they ever feel unsatisfied with their working conditions (whether that be regarding financial compensation or labor hours being provided), and that seems like a very good step in the right direction imo. Workers should always feel comfortable sharing their concerns to their employer and actively encouraging them to unapologetically advocate for themselves is a solid way to foster a healthy workplace.

@@WhoWantsCake0 It's been a very positive experience being a part of Quinton's editing team. Everything Quinton says in this video about how he treats/pays his editors has been exactly my experience. He even offered to pay me weekly back when I got covid and couldn't work, and he told me to not worry about the deadline once when I didn't have an edit ready on-time so I wouldn't overwork myself. The other party's descriptions of working for Quinton do not match my experience being on the editing team - not even close. She's definitely leaving out context and making things up. She's doing this in bad faith and you shouldn't listen to her.

Hey, I'm curious and sorry for adding on, but she claims to have been the only editor on the second video, and his video description only credits her as well. Do you know anything about these claims because unfortunately the only thing muddying the waters imo is Quinton not discussing how many editors he had for the projects she was a part of and how much everyone was paid. I know that latter bit is a sensitive topic, but if he was paying about 1.4-2k to everyone for roughly the same amount of work, then her accusations of being underpaid really have no leg to stand on.

@@happysadyoyo8200yeah the confused me too. Mostly the fact that he claims there’s multiple editors for that video but he didn’t say who and the video only credits who, if there was a reason other editors were not credited (maybe they asked) then I felt that should of been mentioned.

@@happysadyoyo8200 To clarify, she was the only GUEST editor on the second iCarly video that I'm aware of. She did not edit the whole video herself. From what I can tell, she cut together just the bits that were Quinton narrating over clips from the show while he edited everything else. I have seen Discord messages where she is inquiring about the progress of the edit that Quinton is working on. To claim that she was the only editor is false and misleading. She was the only GUEST editor, but she was not the only editor. I don't personally believe Quinton attempted to underpay her, especially not for any malicious reason. He explains that he was expecting the second video to do worse than the first, which it did. However, his biggest mistake was likely not communicating this to her when she began on the project. It's why I would recommend he use actual contracts to avoid disputes like this in the future. Is this situation messy? Yes. Is it malicious manipulation and abuse? No, I don't think so. Fwiw, I've edited segments of similar lengths for Quinton and got paid very similarly to her. He absolutely treats his editors fairly as far as pay goes.

Happened to me when I was in HS. It never impacted our friendship, because I went "oh okay sorry" and left it alone. Tried a year later (stupid kid brain disease thinking what's clearly just being a good friend MUST be romantic) and ofc nothing changed, so I dropped it for good. That was almost 6 years ago and we're still friends, and I have 0 interest in him that way anymore. It's perfectly normal to confess your feelings to someone you like, it's not normal to then take it so personally that you must attempt to ruin the other person's reputation if they reject you. I have worked with Quinton as part of his editing team (primarily on End of Victorious and Sam & Cat) and the way he describes working with his editors totally checks out. I never felt pressure to overwork or meet unreasonable deadlines (one time I submitted a section early and Quinton was pleasantly surprised) and I was paid an industry standard rate. Most importantly I was paid QUICKLY, which is unfortunately not always the case when working freelance. What it sounds like to me is that this editor was behaving very unprofessionally, crossing a lot of inappropriate boundaries, and ultimately ended up harassing Quinton for rejecting her advances. Very much incel behavior on her part, and it is very hard to navigate something like that as a creator when you are very much aware of the power imbalance of an employer/staff relationship. (btw total side note but I watched her video as well and I immediately got red flags, reminded me of the behavior of a stalkers I've encountered in the past) Stay safe, y'all.

And by the way (not to Quinton but to people who may behave like his stalker)- if you love someone, really love and care about them- not your idea of them, *_them the human being,_* you cannot do this. Your love for them stops you. It forces you to communicate with the human being in front of you, bc you recognize their life and autonomy as precious, but more so like. Mandatory. As in consent isn’t just “cute” it’s fucking required.

He didn't say she did anything unwanted sexually. Sounds like she just confessed to him and got super pissed off when he said no and started stalking and regular harassing him. Sexual harassment is a specific thing and you should not muddy the waters for people who actually got sexually harassed. Asking someone out is not sexual harassment. Asking someone for sex definitely can be.

For clarity, when I referenced Quinton being socially awkward (I think my tweet has been seen by more people than I expected >~>;), it was about a series of miscommunications between him and some of Olson's other big UA-camr friends which seem to have inspired some of this strange animosity that he and his friends have towards him, along with Q being maybe more frank about his personal problems in his fan spaces and generally chummier with his fanbase than he really needed to be earlier in his career, which a couple of people have also commented on. I don't want to speculate too hard about this, but as a neuroatypical person, a lot of this feels familiar to me-realising what kind of hard boundaries you need to set too late, accidentally being too forward when trying to make friends with people you're a little in awe of, the very *physical* manifestations of social anxiety and rejection sensitivity-and, I dunno, Dan's behaviour felt tremendously unempathetic to me. I get that maybe he doesn't have the full context or is getting his info from slanted sources, but like, I've been a fan of his for over a decade, I love his work, so my gut desire is to be charitable, but I thought what he said was pointlessly mean-spirited and weird.

I still had feelings for this person and was still hanging out with them (at the person’s request), and those feelings were used during this ordeal to make me believe that Quinton was in the wrong. The thing about this particular person is that they will never acknowledge that they were in the wrong because they get a massive high off of being or acting like the victim. I feel like I’ve been in a much better place without that person in my life, and I can only imagine how much better Quinton’s life will be after this blows over.

Demanding extra money post production or "I'm going to smeer you in public" is extortion and libel. You have the receipts, do not let that slide. Equality means the road goes both ways.
In the future (and you DO have a future) contracts, contracts, contracts. No one is your friend when there's money involved. No one's a homie if you're paying them. Line 1 should cover base and overtime pay rates and line 2 should be the "I do not ever ever ever date employees" clause.

i managed to make it through the whole thing thanks to 2x speed, and yeah, the way she showed things was so disingenuous. i looked through the google drive of all the screenshots before and was very confused how any of it showed any wrongdoing. the only thing i could see being a valid criticism in the vid was the pay and the workload, but also, at no point in her "evidence" did she show him asking her to do that much. and from this video, it's clear that she was doing all of that on her own, and tbh if her work was not quality and was produced so quickly when he planned on her doing one part in two weeks, i think the pay is fair? not to mention, he says if she asked for more before she started harassing him, he would've paid her more (no clue about usual editing pay though so i could be wrong). but yeah; she's trying to pick evidence because he rejected her and paint him as bad when she forced herself to work all those crazy hours and skip classes. she sounds just like creepy guys ive had in DMs. i hope people listen to quinton before jumping to conclusions about this situation; she's genuinely seeking to ruin his reputation over being rejected.

She didnt sign a contract at all, but she was also upset about the pay rate and said that she worked on these videos for 7hrs/day for weeks missing sleep etc.
IF that were true that Quinton gave her outrageous deadlines, she had every right to step away, let her concerns be known, etc. Yes the person was young and 'naive'? But even when I was 16 working in a fast food place, I was getting sexually harassed by a manager and I put in a complaint then quit the job. Nobody was FORCING her to work on these videos. Quinton did not have this lady in his basement whipping her forcing her to edit. She did this on her own and if her time management/caring for herself skills are poor then thats on her. Super refreshing to see somebody give a logical, down to earth, personal interpretation in response to the uncomfortable personal accusations they are dealing with.
Instead of doing an interpretive dance or busting out their ukulele.
Reminds me precisely why I chose to follow a content creator who would bother to do a 4 hour deep dive on a kids show which came out when I was already in my 20s: Because he actually cares

God, as someone who’s had online-only relationships suddenly try to get closer than I was comfortable with, I feel you. It’s such an awkward position to be in, and I was lucky enough to not to be *working* with those people in a professional way. I feel like your responses seem measured and careful, not aggressive in any way, and this person sounds unbalanced, and in need of some professional help to establish solid irl relationships on more forthright grounds. I don’t want to be an armchair analyst or anything, but I feel like this is the kind of behavior I’ve experienced from some troubled people in my own life. It’s a horrible situation to be in, and I hope you have some offline friends that make you feel safe and understood without the added complications of meeting strangers over the internet and having their personalities be suddenly revealed in a different light after unfortunate circumstances.

I agree that this person seemed unwell. Reacting so resentfully and with so much spite to someone simply turning down your romantic advances does not look like what a healthy and sound person would do.

@@WhoWantsCake0 I'd argue "unwell" is the wrong word even. Like, I have a bunch of brain weasels, but I'm... still friends with people who I had crushes on years ago who didn't reciprocate? Like it was sad for a bit but you don't have to have good mental health to not *attack people for not liking you romantically*. Having bad feelings is not a choice, sometimes a momentary loss of control happens, but once you're making and editing CoNtEnT about it for an extended period, you have made *choices*.

I KNEW that callout video was too snide to be truthful. I had to pause the INSTANT she went "oKAY FINEEE 🙄" in the first five seconds because that is NOT how you start a callout video. It made her look profoundly unserious and like it was all a bunch of petty schoolyard bullshit and she hadn't even said anything yet. Glad to know my gut feeling was right. Learning that it was SEXUAL HARASSMENT AND STALKING just made it worse

I am so incredibly sorry you have been forced to be in this position. I have always believed you to be a genuine person, with their head on their shoulders, humble and grounded, and I can't imagine what it's been like for you the last few years. Some people will do anything for their fifteen minutes of fame when their unhealthy parasocial relationship is backing them, and I'm sorry you were the person caught in their crosshairs.
It's clear to me that the whole situation makes you very uncomfortable, and I hope that now that people who have been asking for answers have them, we can work towards putting this in the past where it belongs.

@@WhoWantsCake0The good news is that they’re not a permanent result of the internet.
The bad news is that “parasocial relationships” were first described in the 1950s. Anyone that had a TV probably has at least a couple of parasocial relationships.

From the start she didn't want a professional relationship, she didn't saw becoming your editor as a job opportunity but as a way to get to you. It definitely was a fan just wanting to get close to their favorite youtuber and not a person wanting a job to further her career as a video editor, is disgusting how people can get so caught in their delusions and actually believe their fav youtuber will fall in love with them.
