For anyone wondering, the only way you can achieve this with a pedal outside of an expensive amp modeling unit is with the Earthquaker Pitch Bay. I looked extensively into this

Can you suggest anything to get that effect without dropping 2,600 bucks on an ax fx. Thank you. I've been practicing this song for almost a week just got my fist 8 string
I love your guitar. And nice lesson as well, However, I believe this tapping style should be credited to Layne Melain, TDTDE's original guitarist, as he was doin this before anyone ever heard of josh travis.
They kinda both own this technique. Layne created it and Josh adapted it for tapping and 8-string emulation. You can see their differences when you look at Layne's "Hand Job" in Carroll 14 Wossman 7 from Danza II and Josh's studio video from Danza III.
you would need something than can mimic the effect, one that can do what the "pitch bender" is doing (just playing another voicing of the note pitched a semi-tone down/up) can be replicated without any effects but requires 2 guitarists. because at the end of the day the "dissonant" sound comes from it being multiple notes on top of one another.
Hunter Bass ...Music is so confusing yet so amazing. Though it's a bit strange to me that dissonant noise can be a desired thing... But I'm just probably being the "melodic metal" lover that I am.
Hank Hill Luke's thought is pretty accurate. It's all about what we are conditioned to. There are even scales made by other cultures that pretty much just sound like noise to us, but beautiful to them, and vice versa. Music really was all just free form noise until different people began setting different rules and boundaries on it.
themoosemooseV2 Would you include the idea of dissonance -> resolution a result of a particular cultural conditioning or [universal]? I've noticed the resolution aspect is missing in the way dissonance is used by a lot of guitar players. Idk, sometimes it feels like grinding for the sheer sake of grinding which is cool I guess....in moderation lol
***** Not really, I play 7's, I didn't need to learn any new skills to play it, just adjust my scales for the drop Ab tuning. Nothing more. It's literally no different to play.
This is when I introduce to you a gem of a video I found on UA-cam. Rob Chapman and his pal, play 6, 7, 8, and finally 9 string guitars by Schecter Guitar Research. Look at the hate on Tosin Abasi in the comments, as if people have nothing else better to do. They even said that AAL is a bad example of good composition, which is of course ridiculous. They're music is hella complex, itnervalic and distinguished. He is one of the only people playing an 8-string guitar that I think utilizes it to the fullest extent. He doesn't use it because it has 8 strings. He uses it because it fulfills the purpose of jazz instrumentation using baritone methods. Let this be a lesson to you, and to all I guess: ua-cam.com/video/AODbK4Mq73o/v-deo.html

Right! Lol
ive heard he also tunes 2 strings to C. Same octave but a few cents different. That is insane! Uninhibited genius.
+Iridescent Noise He has a tuning where like 5-6 of the strings are the 2 same notes. Gives him such great octaves.
16 cents off

what knob placement/setting would you recommend
@@colelee3084 whatever sounds good
Actually that's not true. I use the electro harmonics pitchfork pedal based off of Josh's recommendation himself
yeah i mean, you could also just track 2 or 3 separate guitar parts playing the same patter but a minor 2nd apart from each other
@@Skeletor4753where'd he recommend that?
let's start a petition for a josh travis master class in the BPC next year
this is one of the best tutorial vids ive seen on here man...cheers!
You are the man! If I wasn't in bum-fuck Missouri, I'd totally want to start a project with you..
I too am in bum fuck Missouri lol
ONE OF US! ONE OF US!!
Troy Missouri represent. Haha
It's like how Rings of Saturn make their dissonant tones but with both players playing the notes rather than a tone setting on Axe Fx
I've seen them live a bunch and they've never had both guitar players on stage lol

To me it sounded like tapping part in Meshuggah's New Millenium Cyanide Christ...
yeah what the fuck is the definition of inspiration? I don't know ! because RIP OFF.
Dani Montoro that song gives me nightmares. It has so many subtle dissonant parts that really cut into your brain because of how repetitive they are.
lol, peoples like you are why the metal community is complete shit, you're life must be so depressing to tell everything is a rip off even if it's not

for real. what brilliant writing.
My solo project The Ox and The Lion plays in this. I didn’t do that tapping just rhythm and panic speed. Tapping album number 2 in 2 months.
That riff sounds like a heated argument amongst like ten ppl and shits about to go down.
Is there a stomp box that can replicate this sound?
Zoom g2 lol
@Pentex Sucks would the ps-5 work for this?

Hunter Bass any updates?
spicyfetus no one ever figured it out.
Great explanation, dude.
its mostly a effect called octavio or pitch bending,, i use one to get that death metal sound to my solos
that is such a beautiful guitar!!!
Can you suggest anything to get that effect without dropping 2,600 bucks on an ax fx. Thank you. I've been practicing this song for almost a week just got my fist 8 string
You could get a Kemper
The digitech whammy will do this effect although idk which octave though cause I tried to do it with mine and can't figure it out
You could also get a Harmonizer pedal.
LoL. Use some free VSTs pitch shifter pedals. Apply two ones. One for shifting down and one for shifting up.
can i tune in this with a 7-string?
Yes just leave that top f out
Is there a pedal I can buy that can get a similar "pitch bending" tone?
Alas, it is the Digitech Whammyy pedal that you desire.
Hi how i can achieve that tone using reaper idk where to start
Cheers for the vid, Nice to have it slowed down and explained.
I know this is old but I have an Axe-fx. I wanna know how to get this sound!!! Do you still have the preset or can you tell me how to set the effect?
This dude knows his shit!!!
lol the fact he calls it "Josh Travis dissonant tapping" disproves that.
Mike Boyd he could call it "Shit Tapping" and he could still play guitar better than you.
Hey buddy, mind to share the preset?
I might buy that same guitar and trade in my Septor 827. How do you like that model?
How do you like your Agile? Debating getting one
Are those the stock pickups? If so how do they stack up to other active pickups?
Song in the background at 3:16 if you don't mind :)
sik guitar man! what do you use for the pitch bender ?
What is the name of the TDTDE's record??
+BASSKILLER this is from Glass Clouds 'The Royal Thousand' album
Forrest Daley ok.. thank you dude..
Can you have the pitch bending like this on the pod hd pro x?
Hello! Great Video. Really nice editing. Btw, any chance to share the preset,It would be very nice
Seig Zeon!
On your guitar, what do the fanned out frets do?
Hunter Bass Thanks, that helped me a lot. Love the guitar btw. Nice color and sound
kevinrox666 tightens shit up
I wanted you to tap the tapping part from the couplet
What's the record name from TDTE??
This record is for glass cloud , its called she is well and nothing cant be ill
A series of unfortunate events I believe.
i have a FM3 how did you setup the dissonance tone? you have to show the block structure you only say you use a pitch bender.....
Sounds like a really bad acid trip.

so, it's a double sweep

There's musical noise, then there's static noise, and then there's glasscloud which is in between.
