+Διονυσης Κανακης pfft, you think that's bad? I play drums not guitar! Made the mistake of trying to do this and now I have to pay a $10,000 fine and relocate to Czechoslovakia -_-
+aceinyoface96 Czechoslovakia doesn't exist for dozens of years... it's just Czech Republic now and separate Slovakian Republic. Ever went to geography lessons? :D
That first trick with the drumstick sounded straight-up *haunted*! I can see folks running out of the room if you pulled this under the right conditions. I GOTTA learn it!
#5 is what jimmy page does with a violin bow during dazed and confused and whole lotta love and during solo parts/breaks during live performances during his Zeppelin days
+Alex Berry Well it looks the same because it's a "bowed" string way of playing, but it's a different technique, Jimmy played with a violin bow only around the bridge pickup while left hand was gripping differents chords shapes on the neck to change sounds, his intention was to deliver nice psychedelic strings sounds with lots of hamornics, but hard to control in terms of notes/intonation, and lot of feedback involved cause it required lots of gain to make it possible, this #5 technique here shows the left hand is muting the strings from the nut to avoid resonances, while right hand is bowing the stick on the string to create the sound and moving it above the fret he wants to control the note aspect, and reaches the ones he wants, so he has perfect control about the note/pitch he plays and with practice you can play any tune you want! So they are not the same technique in my opinion, and the "artistic" intentions and sonic results are different too.
On a guitar with a wammy bar, Play the low E string and bend a note on the A string. It pulls the bridge closer and you get a reverse pitch bend on the low E.
That 1st technique has been around for a while. Joe Perry used it on Aerosmith's "Train Kept A Rolling" and Bob Kulick used it when he cut the lead on the Kiss song "All American Man". I believe Mick Mars of Motley Crue used it too. #2 seems like a variation on Eddie Van Halen's tap harmonics. My favorite was the air-raid siren with the drumstick. It sounds like the siren on the intro of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs".
If I recall correctly, the guys from Idiot Flesh had an album(The Nothing Show) recorded where several of the guitar tracks were played entirely with drumsticks, mentioned on the album's line-up/instrumentation as "percussion guitar". Their approach was different from yours, but produced some real aggressive, gritty sounds. It's something I'd highly recommend for anyone interested in the avant-garde and experimental music.
+Ricardo Barata First trick to learn after tapping ist sticking the pick to your forehead to get it back quickly when you need it... might not work with alzheimers
Some of those techniques are alot of fun. They make nice compliments to any contemporary musical piece. A sense of humor helps too! After all, I have been playing for over fifty years and I still use an old sock for a capo.
Wow. That drumstick... You got the Lady of the Lake to come forth through that guitar! (Excalibur movie reference). I REALLY enjoyed this and I learned...well...several new things!
My man, this is AMAZING lesson, thank you so much! I couldn't even imagine I can make these sounds with a drumstick! Alarm tone, just wow. You're awesome! Also, I've spent half of video figuring out where have i heard fourth lick. Extremely familiar to "Run Through the Jungle" intro, and this wobbly harmonic is mindblowing)
Nikki Kay Thank you very much! Someone else mentioned Run Through the Jungle before and while it's not the same exact technique, it does sound similar to me too. Glad you like it!
Best guitar video on UA-cam. Thanks for the awesome upload from what looks like an awesome dude! Will keep these tricks in mind for future sound design techniques :) much love
That was WILD! Honestly I subscribed after just two seconds watching this crazy intro. And I'm no guitar player. But I know a good youtube channel when I see one. This qualifies as such. Keep up your good work!
Tried the 5th trick and now Samael and Lilith are in the living room watching TV and eating all the stuff in the fridge and they won't go away! Damn you!
+Tommy DJ Horror Film, they're called Horror Films for fucks sake, it's in it's own genre. I was born in 1990. There's more to this world than just movies you've watched you vagina.
Awesome!!! Just loved this vid. By the way, when I heard that siren alarm I was like 'holy shit is this a real guitar?' It just remembered me Tom Morello and his custom guitar lol
That was amazing. I did the last one and all the vats from the neighbourhood gathered outside my house. Also there's a portal open now on my basement, and i don't know how to fix it. Any riff suggestion?
+idealoser Random VST stuff. I typically use RoomMachine 844 for guitars. The one at 4:36 and the police siren sound was distortion, EQ and a convolution reverb "Cavern" IR of Samplicity’s Bricasti M7 Impulse Response Library (www.samplicity.com/bricasti-m7-impulse-responses/).
#5 can also be done by rubbing a slide over a muted string (faster than with the stick). David gilmour from Pink Floyd does it on Celestial Voices live at Pompeii
I've been playing for a long time. I feel silly saying this but holding harmonics while tapping & using a drum stick or any other object for that matter as a bow never entered my mind. LOL, either way. Great video pimpin.
Many of you have asked for more, so here's part 2:
ua-cam.com/video/oP9phUoVTPc/v-deo.html

+Διονυσης Κανακης Instructions not clear, penis stuck in toaster and arms on fire

Guitar + Violin bow = Jimmy Page
+Kim Deal Or No Deal?
Yes!
Guitar + teeth =jimi hendrix
All of these are really cool, but what impressed me the most was the fact that you could make the sound of a choir, just by using a drumstick 0.0
4:37 sounds like an opera singer
RavionUltimate that's what I thought.
Suena como en dragon ball z en la saga de frezzer jajaj
@@humbertolopezdimitri2593 I thought the same as you
That first trick with the drumstick sounded straight-up *haunted*! I can see folks running out of the room if you pulled this under the right conditions. I GOTTA learn it!
Tony Jones That technique would be good for some eerie black metal atmosphere. that was my first impression
Will Whitman Black metal... yeah, it would definitely work!
Will Whitman black metal? thafuck? nope!
Psychodelic music though, now we've got something.
+Ridley On Steroids Psychedelic*
Ridley On Steroids That's just, like, your opinion, man...
The last technique was really cool. But creepy at the same time. It sounds more like a halloween choir singing with babies.
Dude is the silent hill siren :v
Sounds like a replacement for a choir if you don't have one
+Señor Fredericksen it is just vibration he is pretty much hitting the same frequency and same amount of vibration as opera or choir
what's the trick on the last one wanna creep the hell out of my friends cx
This is a national broadcasting announcing the beginning of the annual purge.
4:12 chewbacca
this is secretly buckethead teaching you
Will Gibson More like Jake e Lee...I’ve sounds like him in a nutshell
#5 is what jimmy page does with a violin bow during dazed and confused and whole lotta love and during solo parts/breaks during live performances during his Zeppelin days
Hahahaha. Whole Lotta Love uses a theremin
5th is quite fckn cool to be honest

On a guitar with a wammy bar, Play the low E string and bend a note on the A string. It pulls the bridge closer and you get a reverse pitch bend on the low E.

Really? The sledgehammer works every time and it also made it sound much better.
"If you still have friends after those tricks" 😂😂😂😂😂
Wow. In 4:37 the 12th fret sounded like some actual vocals.

awesome effect with the drumstick ! great video man!
Most Post-Rock artists use technique #5, they either use a drum stick or a screwdriver, but either way that trick sounds amazing
Some artists have played live this technique using a Zippo lighter.
lmfao That one where you put the socks on the guitar was perfect
I heard some spiritual being is singing inside a deep dark cave at ending.
learning how to make space noises with a drumstick is the greatest thing i have learned today
Number 5 is sooo awesome.
The Siren technic is cool :3
Is it hard to play like this?
+TheUnknown Patriot You have to play by ear a little bit more than usual, other than that it's very easy.
+Bad Guitar what ambience effects that you use?. Or is it just basically a distortion/overdrive with a delay?
+idealoser Random VST stuff. I typically use RoomMachine 844 for guitars. The one at 4:36 and the police siren sound was distortion, EQ and a convolution reverb "Cavern" IR of Samplicity’s Bricasti M7 Impulse Response Library (www.samplicity.com/bricasti-m7-impulse-responses/).
BRO THE DRUM STICK STUFF! MY GAWT
4:30..... just....idk....beatiful but creepy but awesome!!!!!!
If I could like it 5 times, I would!! You play a baaad guitar, dude! haha
Whoa !!!!! you rock man!!!
Thank you!
You sir have earned a sub! I'm enjoying these videos
Okay... I now wonder if that's how Disturbed did the intro to "Indestructible".
#5 can also be done by rubbing a slide over a muted string (faster than with the stick).
David gilmour from Pink Floyd does it on Celestial Voices live at Pompeii
+ClockworkG That's cool, thanks, just saw that for the first time. Here's a link if anyone is interested ua-cam.com/video/UVlL3gwVuoA/v-deo.html
5 of 1344 buckethead techniques.
thanks for taking the time to share which you didn't have to but hey thanks man, I enjoyed it and the knowledge sharing
Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
+Bad Guitar always love to take in knowledge from someone who likes to present it, that to me is fun and interesting.
I can see number 3 being used in black metal
one of the most usefull video that i have ever seen!
I've been playing for a long time. I feel silly saying this but holding harmonics while tapping & using a drum stick or any other object for that matter as a bow never entered my mind. LOL, either way. Great video pimpin.
+The Epic Question Glad you like it!
I figured out the drum stick one on my own the other day! It's amazing :D
