Hey mustie iv been watching you and learnt so much over 12 months I had no to little experience with engines but I bought an old mower just to fix up well I did it I fixed a mower lol basically followed what you thought us all and I did it I can’t believe I fixed it I then gave the mower to a kid down the road and he started mowing lawns after school and get paid how good is that.
Hey Mustie, I love your videos. Iv been watching for a year and half, Iv been dealing with stress from work and lack of sleep and your video's have giving me a escape. I studied automotive and you have given me a refresher over the years. Hopefully I can see a new video on the Satellite. Thank you for everything see you in the next video.
Your video skills continue to improve! Thanks for turning the volume down on the screeching cut off bits! You have a natural, conversational talent with the camera. Your knowledge, experience and, most important, an inquisitive, genuine interest in learning make these videos more than entertaining. It is important to know how to fix things. It is even more important to know how to problem solve. Thanks for making the effort to share your genius! 500K by May!
I so admire your approach to enjoying ownership of motor vehicles. You get so much enjoyment out of doing your thing. Thats so important in life. Yes others will have opinions but what do they matter. Good on you.
Great Winter project.I just came in from the garage working on my winter project and I sprayed the base coat and clear coat today. I turned a major corner. Of course I was just going to fix it up a little bit too,but my projects always snowball into bigger things just cause I am OCD about stuff, but I have fun too. Thanks for the content.
Going to be doing this to my 02 wrx this spring rockers and rear wheel arches always love watching your rust repair videos I live about 45 min north of you and have done this many times just last summer inner and outer rockers and cab corners on a 03 GMC Sierra
I like seeing your 'stitching' technique. I'm learning to wire weld and eventually want to and a bottom to a fake mini bike gas tank to make it a real tank. I also have an older Astro van that needs new rocker panels too, but those won't need to be liquid tight! These videos help me out! Thanks!
That is one good looking Ghia... Genius color combo! Maybe it was because of the lift but you made rocker rust repair look fun and easy somehow. Thanks for sharing
I love your videos because I'm learning something that I didn't know before. Still in the process of watching your videos. Your videos are good quality. I always look forward to watching them. You are one of those guys, like myself, that loves working with their hands. Please keep the videos coming!
When you ask "us' if we wanted to do some Body work, I sitting in bed with coffee and a foot of fresh snow waiting outside for me to go snow-blow and plow, I thought NO I DO NOT WANT TO DO ANY BODY WORK. But, I will watch you, Please continue. I am the past owner of 3 VW Vans, 1959, 1969 and a 1972, A 1967 Fast Back, 1962 Bug and a 1963/64 Baja Bug with a Fast back Fuel injected engine out of my brothers totaled Fast Back. So No, I do not ever want to own or do Body work on a VW again. But I did enjoy watching the magic you do. Thanks.
Not all that happy, but after my outside Snow removal work, I did un-tarp My Honda 90 and my Sears Suburban Yard Tractor, Hauled both of them around trough the snow and through a 36" Man Door (I will need to build a bigger door) & into the little shop area. Set up a propane Heater. Now; inspired to clean out all of my tools and organize them all. Then get the Honda and Yard Tractor running.
Come on Mustie!!! What's with the multiple teaser shots of the HyperTherm box on the bench and no mention of it??? We know your old plasma cutter died...but going from a Chinese one (which you said lasted a long time) to a HT is a HUGE upgrade! It is awesome to watch your experience at work - thank you for allowing us to come along! Be well, Don
I think it would be really cool if you did a total restore on this ol' car! I always wanted one but never could find one in good shape in the early 70's. Love your videos! Your craftsmanship is amazing!
I admire your drive to take on these kinds of projects. I wish that I had some of these skills and could be making my own living with them and could do stuff that I enjoy doing, like you.
You got me hooked on carmen ghias now got to own one before i die this was a fantastic project would love to see you weld the last quater I was born in 65 so hooked on the 65 shape and prefer the rear lights of the 65.
Very well constructed and interesting video musti.. following a few fabricators and welders and I've got to say yours clips are the best .. So glad your back on to old Volkswagens
I expect this will be an amazing series. I can't wait to see it done. You have done a fabulous job so far and SOOOO patient! Thanks for taking us on the journey.
Not the worst. Rule of thumb with these is there is rust you can see then there loads you can't. They do rust with the best of them. If you can do one of these well then you can do pretty much any car, takes real skill to keep those complex curves looking as beautiful as they do. Such a beautiful car, major league want!
You have such a practiced eye when it comes to these little fellas. It looks like someone really enjoyed this car and did what they could afford to keep it rolling. I'm pretty excited to how this one turns out and your impression of how different it drives from a Beetle.
again a great video, please don't oil until the paint is on it so if you keep it or not a good coat of paint can be applied. Remember a lot of us are living this video as if we are there doing the work. Can't wait for the next part.

Too bad that old Porsche motor you found a few years back didn't pan out... I would have loved to see that in this car. Always a great time in the garage with you! Thanks!
How great, a new Mustie1 this morning with coffee. Ok, carefully watching this whole series because I need to see how you handle the "bubbles". I have little on back wheel arch of my 06 Mitsubishi Outlander and want to take care of it but need to watch how you do it.
Projects that reach for perfection, often never get completed. I should know of all people, because my mindset used to be “all or nothing.” It would freeze me in my tracks, and no real progress would be made. Sometimes good enough is good enough.
Words to live by Mr. Spain ! ! ! Well said . . . I feel and see this often in my everyday life and in society in general. The Social Justice Warrior Attitude of today can be consuming, preventing some people from accomplishing simple tasks. The current social media mentality doesn't allow people a sense of self expression. People are pressured to conform to a crowd or be cast aside often stripping an individuals self worth. I just went out and wrote "Sometimes Good Enough is Good Enough" on the white board in my garage . . . Maybe it will help me get a couple projects one step closer to finished.
I deal with a lot of younger people on a daily basis, but see "IT" (The SJW attitude)" everywhere among all people across the board. Between Facebook the Far Left and Far Right TV channels, Public Schools now days, people are find it easier to label other people and use their self righteous paint brush to put all people in a category to make them feel their beliefs are superior. A lot of old people are just as bad sometimes worse . . . But to answer your question YES . . .Proud Father of 3 kids, Grandparent of 4. I'm a 50 yr old Big 3 Factory Rat who raised 3 kids on my own. 29, 25 and 20, Put the oldest through college and the youngest still in college. Their mom left when the youngest was almost 2. The middle one . . . well he's just like me - Stubborn, Obstinate, Hard Headed, with a Screw Authority attitude and a heart of Gold. Takes home every stray dog and cat he comes across.
Love Karmann Ghia's! Had a green '71 that was just fantastic... I installed dual Weber 40 carbs and full through exhaust... made a huge difference in the normally lack luster performance. I always thought that VW should have supplied a mightier power plant to this model... perhaps the Porsche 914 engine. Would have made for even a more special car...
When I lived in the 'Rust Belt' in 12/65, I bought my first real car - a '60 K-G convert that was a rust bucket. Drove it to AK and the Yukon Territory and far, far beyond - it was bullet proof. Fixed a lot of rust with a lot of help. My findings: pull the body - it's easy; NEVER CUT a rocker panel anywhere - you need the strength; ALWAYS coat the inner sides of all panels with some form of thin film coating that makes the metal hydrophobic, e.g., amsoil metal protectant or fluidfilm - NEVER undercoating; use lots of 'weld through primer everywhere; sandblast when possible. I then bought (6/70) a '66 K-G convert which I still own here in Colorado. Thanks for your demo. It's hard to believe your number of views - I guess those who know quality are still out there.
Grew up in Montreal Quebec, My first cars were beetles and VW vans. The bodies lasted well, then along came Karman Ghia. Had a few friends who owned them. Nice car with the bio degradable body close to the Fiat. Don't laugh I owned a 1974 Fiat 124 TC Went like a cut cat, but body was so sad and this was a west coast car too. Thanks Mustie. Enjoy your projects
Seeing a car you used to own ( store ) on Mustie1's lift....best cup of coffee I've had in a long, long time . Nice work on the bad repop panel ! I was cracking up for the underside tour and what is on the beam 😂?!?
Congrats, a Karmann. The Karmann factory in Osnabruck, noth east of cologne ceased 2009. B4 they produced carbodies for the likes of VW, BMW + Mercedes, mainly convertibles
You know, I have a 1965 Pontiac Bonneville. Its hard to imagine just how different those two cars are, a light "sporty" chic european coupe vs a big lumbering american sedan. What a diverse market they had in the 60s
I like these hard top models much better than a soft tops. I love the white roof with the red body, and when you put the chrome back on its going to look fantastic. I wish i could come and help you out but its a long way across the pond.
A lot of wrench turners like them. I feel it's because they're so darn different then everything else. Ford, Toyota, Volvo, Packard, Rio, etc; they all have their little differences, but early VWs are in a class all by themselves. A lot of history in the little cars too.
I'm in love with this car, I think it's the whitewalls, the full chrome wheel covers, and the colors, is out a white gut in it, cause it would be smokin
Red wire goes to the flux capacitor to control G force on take off. Great bit of wrench'n and all round video.bro. You have snow and we are far too hot. All the best from Hobbiton NZ
Mustie, you probably know thing or two about getting more of them horses out of vw engines. It would be fun to see the engine build process that makes this Karmann perform more like a Porsche than a Beetle.
Another great find and build. One of these days I'm going to buy one of your dubs. I'll trailer that joker back to SC! Thanks for the morning entertainment.
I always loved the lines of the Karman, and affection in general for bugs and buses. Had a '71 square back for a while as well. I always wondered if a 914 engine could fit in one. The noises i hear sound like 914 engines are $$$.
Using a fender hammer for bodywork, It's about time. I think you have used it for just about everything else. That is a big project, perfect for winter.
I've done 3 Ghia's over the past two years that were far worse then what you have. The real fun will start when you get to the rear qtr panel work. Be advised once you cut that rear panel to do the donor section unstall you will need to install the rear engine lid cover to keep things lined up, but you probably already knew that. Let the fun begin!
Awesome video mustie1 can't wait for the next one an also would be really awesome if your wife could drive that to the shows an get together you go to thanks again great job
I have this to look forward to on an MGB except I have to replace the castle rail and the lower wing too, someone bodged a repair after a crash leaving it all pushed in and just using bondo to build out most of the shape so far I have removed about 4kg of bondo from sill and door.
Hi. Really enjoy your channel. I lived in a coastal town in Africa where you could almost watch the vehicles rust. We used a chemical paint that when it came into contact with rust turned black and formed an epoxy like substance that was as hard as metal also preventing further rust. Maybe you have access to this. Be perfect for the insides of the doors etc.
Nice job Mustie !!! Love to watch craftsman work.
Nice work! you mde that patch panel fit very well! Thanks for sharing
Nice work, this brings back some memories, spent much of my youth patching up old cars.
I had a ghia. Autostick! I miss it. Wider pan than a beetle. Us taller guys are thankful of that.
This is a nice project car. Will be great watching it come back to life! Thanks for sharing Mustie.
You are definitely an artist when it comes to bending and bodywork !
Very cool. Keep your eyes open for a Karmann Ghia now hey?
The kid with the mower gonna need to drive soon. LOL
Gives you great satisfaction to bring something back that was destined for the junk pile. Congrats!!
Oh man, I was a kid mowing yards once. Something in my eye.
@@kirkjohnson9353 Lots of Karman Ghia's down here in Texas. They don't rust here
I have a Beetle and a Thing, but I want a Ghia really bad too! LOVE them! Happy for you.

Mr Mustie1 you are a vw guru. Thank you for sharing.
The Richard Attenborough of wrenching 'n welding... It's a pleasure to watch.
Sweet car, I did something similar with a 72 Ghia vert about 20 years ago and still driving it.
Thanks for the vids!
Good pick, Mustie. Hope you gets lots of Ghia fans tuning in to see you work metal magic and save this one from the junk pile. 👍
Hi, the stories that car could tell. Thanks for all your videos very entertaining.
That is one good looking Ghia... Genius color combo! Maybe it was because of the lift but you made rocker rust repair look fun and easy somehow. Thanks for sharing
I've always peferred the looks of the Karman Ghia. Everything everywhere seems to be Beetle-focused. I'm glad you are doing this project!
As much as i love watching lawn mower engine builds, i'm really looking forward to the repairs on Ghia ! Cheers from Australia :)
It doesn’t look too bad underneath. Good score! Digging the whitewalls. Beautiful spillway! -peace😌

Wow very nice your work on the rocker is outstanding very very nice . I dont think it will take you long to knock it out .
Thank you so much for doing this. I've a real soft spot for the Karman Ghia.

Red wire goes to the flux capacitor to control G force on take off. Great bit of wrench'n and all round video.bro. You have snow and we are far too hot. All the best from Hobbiton NZ
now we are back to the content I like. repairing old air cooled vdubs. awesome dude.
Mustie, you probably know thing or two about getting more of them horses out of vw engines. It would be fun to see the engine build process that makes this Karmann perform more like a Porsche than a Beetle.
Such a cool timeless design!
914 engines are just vw bus engnes
@@mustie1 Thanks for the clarity. You possess far more than i in that understanding. And i did not know that. Thank You.
Nice and as usual, great how you explain on camera as you go along.
They call them 'running restorations', get the little beauty driving!
The car looks really sound but for the bondo area. Can’t wait to see what Mustie will do with it..
