  • On this episode, I'm visiting Chiu Quon, the premiere bakery in Chicago's Chinatown. A local institution that opened in 1986, it specializes in Hong Kong/Cantonese/Toisanese style baked goods and pastries. Their most renowned item is the baked roast pork bun (cha siu bao), something no one visiting there, especially for the first time, can miss out on. I get those to try, of course, and a representative survey of their other, most popular items. In the end, I am legitimately wowed by the quality and execution. I leave having learned why Chiu Quon is a special place.

Yeah, that pineapple bun was stunning. I'd never seen one with such a pronounced crust. And, it was super plush. I hope you get to Chiu Quon and try one for yourself. You will love it.

I agree. Chiu Quon is top of the line when it comes to the old school Cantonese/Hong Kong style of baking. I'm so glad that I was able to visit and experience what they're all about. Thanks so much for watching.
