Wait. Shouldn't it be like this: ? 3 parts infused oil, 1 part mango or shea butter, 1 part beeswax = 6 (not 12) ounces herb infused oil, 2 ounces beeswax, 2 ounces mango or shea butter.
Heidi- I just started my second plantain salve. I foraged 100 broadleaf plantain and dried them on a rack in my garden. I whizzed them up in a smoothie maker. I bought a new mason jar. I bought 4 bottles of avocado oil. I put the dry plantain in the jar, and added 3 bottles of avocado oil. I'll leave it for 2 months to infuse. I'll then sieve the contents of the jar. I'll use coconut oil and beeswax to make the salve.
Heidi, last year I made a healing salve, based on what you already had on your channel, and made it specifically for my chickies--- I use it on any wounds or bald spots that they have (for sunburn, their combs, etc.)---it works like a champ! I really believe in the natural healing wonders of what's in the back yard and what a person can make from flowers, herbs, etc. I have learned a lot from you and really appreciate your videos--my hubby loves it when he sees Patrick make something on the channel or when he speaks up too! Blessings from Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN :)
I love mango butter - not a fan of shea. You can always put a stainless screwer or utensil in the jars before pouring to prevent the glass cracking, because the stainless steel absorbs the heat.
This is a timely lesson! I just made my first-ever skin salve, Seaside Plantain in beeswax and olive oil. I pt it into an old mayo jar and it’s already being used for cuts and scrapes - to wondrous results! Now I’m going to check out your healing oil vid and make some while foraging opportunity is going strong! Thank you for all your self-reliance instruction! Stay well!
Can't wait to make this. I just went and cut some comfrey before winter kills everything. I already had yarrow and plantain dried for the infused oil. I just love your videos. God is good!
I dried plantain and added avocado oil last night. I've foraged yarrow and dried and powdered it. Would you recommend I add the yarrow to the plantain? I have pineapple weed too.

Cant wait to try this. I'd highly recommend whipping the butters as they are very easy to whip and add the infused oil and essential oils. It will take a shorter time and retain the goodness. The only thing you'll melt in the pot is the beeswax
Yes, I have done that before but do not prefer using that method, especially when using beeswax. It is just important to stick with a low heat to preserve the benefits

Even making my own, I still love to watch other people make salves, etc. Like you I want my oil super strong, which means I plan ahead. I infuse my oils and after I strain them I do a double infusion by adding more herbs to that infused oil and infuse it again. I love bee's wax to stiffen it up. Hello Heidi, I am buying organic dried plantain and seeds, I am drying dandelion flowers, which would be a another to make this salve stronger as I will buy what u recomend, till I can buy the seeds for this one to grow thank u

Thank you for sharing this. Im really interested in herbs and wild plants. I will have to go somewhere else to pick them . they spray weed killer at my apt.
Adding a liquid like that to fats and oils is tricky because fat and water do not mix but it can work with emulsification which is a messy process that requires a blender. I hate it myself so I am one would would apply the colloidal silver first then the salve over the top. Much easier and less mess
Not something I have ever worried about. I have had the same salve for years without issue. However, you would know if it is no longer useable when it smells rancid and gets sticky
What herbs did you use in the herbal infused oil? This is why I started watching your video but didn't see any info about that at all. I want to know which herbs (besides all the essential oils) are very beneficial in your experience.
I made this salve once and it was amazing! The solution for my very dry hands. Time to make more. I didn’t add essential oils when I made the salve the second time around. Can I carefully melt it again and mix the oil at a later date? Thanks!
I love when I come across these older videos and they turn out to be something I need at this moment! (Is Google reading my mind? 😆) Anyway.....I made some comfrey salve, a year or so ago. A LARGE amount, too. It works very well. However, it's a bit "grainy"....as if the beeswax (the yellow stuff) didn't melt well. As a result, when I rub it in, globs fall off...it never seems to fully "smooth" into my skin, no matter how long I rub it in. Frustrating. But, I don't want to throw it out. I believe the only ingredients are the comfrey oil (almond oil plus the comfrey), the yellow beeswax, and possibly some shea butter. So, first, what did I do wrong to cause this? Second, is there any way I can smooth it out? Melt it? Let it dissolve again? But then what?
I have this happen from time to time with my skin creams and more even if it all melted and everything started off as smooth after it first cooled. My only theory on this is changes in temperature or when they cool too quickly. I have often remelted such things to get them a better texture again
@RainCountryHomestead thanks for your reply. I really enjoy your knowledge because you know what you are doing. I see lots of people making infuse oils, and everything they are doing is wrong.
Hello Heidi thanks for your great videos. I made some really nice salve but I noticed one of tin salve has a more grainy texture. Why would that happen ?
Hello Heidi. Can you tell me where you got the table for your treadle sewing machine? I looked at the Janome 712T link you gave and it says it needs the treadle table. I don't know where to get one. Thank you and God bless!
My mother in law gave that to me many years ago, long before I actually had a treacle machine. While new ones can be purchased, they can be very expensive. I believe Lehman's carries them. Try looking in places such as eBay, facebook market and other such places that one can find used items. Sometimes you can find pretty good deals on them
I have some Wideleaf plantain and some Narrowleaf plantain and some stinging nettle and chamomile that I am going to put in a salve. Do you think that would help for someone with shingles?? I’ve never had it but I hear it is extremely painful! I’ve watched this video several times but I finally ordered some beeswax! God bless!🙏🌱😊
Do your herbs need to be dried before you infuse them? I would love to try this with Green Tea or Horsetail Butter. Those have amazing healing properties.
does your lotions absorb into the skin and not leave the skin greasy?i’m trying to find a homemade recipe that will absorb into the skin and not be so greasy. I love your videos keep up the great work.
My skin cream does not absorb the way store bought face creams or lotions do. However, I have been using it for years and love it. For me, it does eventually absorb but can take awhile but that is actually why I like it. I use it on my face, hands, feet, lips, anywhere I feel I need it, even in my hair

3 parts infused oil, 1 part mango or shea butter, 1 part beeswax = 6 (not 12) ounces herb infused oil, 2 ounces beeswax, 2 ounces mango or shea butter.
What do you use for eczema?
This is my math LOL...6 parts infused oil, 1 part beeswax, 1 part butter. (75% infused oil + 12.5% beeswax + 12.5% butter)
I’m confused on math. 2 x 3 = 6
What herbs are in your infused oil?
I'm an esthetician and I've been making salves like this for my clients for years. They LOVE them!

I have used it on my dog but it may depend on the essential oils you use. Tea tree can be harmful
What is this salve good for? What is the shelf life?
Can you do a video on stinging nettle cream?
I have not used nettle in a cream but the process would be the same
Karen Tillery has Red rashes
I’ve thinking to make my own nipple balm for when baby arrives. Are there herbs you’d recommend for that?
Hiw can i add colloidal silver to a salve. I truly believe in it and use it all the time . I can't find anything on it thanks in advance
Adding a liquid like that to fats and oils is tricky because fat and water do not mix but it can work with emulsification which is a messy process that requires a blender. I hate it myself so I am one would would apply the colloidal silver first then the salve over the top. Much easier and less mess
@@RainCountryHomestead great idea . Thank you
What’s expiration date for it ? Please 🙏
Not something I have ever worried about. I have had the same salve for years without issue. However, you would know if it is no longer useable when it smells rancid and gets sticky
@@RainCountryHomestead thank you very much 🙏
Have you ever made any herbal products with tallow as a base?
I personally have not but would consider it if it was something I had in abundance
What herbs did you use in the herbal infused oil? This is why I started watching your video but didn't see any info about that at all. I want to know which herbs (besides all the essential oils) are very beneficial in your experience.
This part was about the salve as noted and I also linked to the video on the herb infused oil in the description box as promised
What about adding moragana oil? Looking into getting some oil and powder. Thank you for all the information you teach us! God bless you 😘
No familiar with that oil
@@RainCountryHomestead sorry ment moringa, lol
If you’re talking about moringa oil it would be great to add
I made this salve once and it was amazing! The solution for my very dry hands. Time to make more. I didn’t add essential oils when I made the salve the second time around. Can I carefully melt it again and mix the oil at a later date? Thanks!
Yes, you can :)
@@RainCountryHomestead Thank you, Heidi! 😊
@@RainCountryHomestead Thanks! I'll try remelting it.
Wodering when making infuse oil, can you use the mixer or blender to get more of the herbs with the oils?
You can if you want but I would not blend it, it will make it harder to strain out the bits
@RainCountryHomestead thanks for your reply. I really enjoy your knowledge because you know what you are doing. I see lots of people making infuse oils, and everything they are doing is wrong.
Hi HEIDI, where do you get your stainless steel tins from? Much better than the aluminium ones!
Sometimes you can find pretty good deals on them
@@RainCountryHomestead Thank you!
Hello... Thank you. I saw you had a video... Yrs ago... I cannot find for hair falling out. Can you help me with a link ?
What is odd is I have suddenly been getting several comments on that old video. Anyway, here it is: ua-cam.com/video/oOCEXxWRqA0/v-deo.html
@@RainCountryHomestead Thank you ❤️ that is odd 🙃😄
Can u make thyme oil wvfresh thyme. How much thyme to oil
It is always best to use dried herbs when making an infused oil
I have some Wideleaf plantain and some Narrowleaf plantain and some stinging nettle and chamomile that I am going to put in a salve. Do you think that would help for someone with shingles?? I’ve never had it but I hear it is extremely painful! I’ve watched this video several times but I finally ordered some beeswax! God bless!🙏🌱😊
Do your herbs need to be dried before you infuse them? I would love to try this with Green Tea or Horsetail Butter. Those have amazing healing properties.
When one is infusing in oil, yes, they do
do you have something that you make for pain? or joint pain? thanks in advance

Her face glowing
Great info! I am curious as to why you use beeswax as I have read it clogs the pores?
I use it in my homemade skin cream that I have been using on my face for years now with no problems
Also i started an infused oil 11 mo ago can i still use it to make salve, or should i start over, and can i mix plantain leaves with comfrey
Yes, it should be great
Do you have to dry the comfrey first? Thank you 🌹
Whenever you are infusing herbs in oil, yes, they all must be dried first. This is important
Hi I'm looking for a salve recipe that will help with sciatica will this work.
does your lotions absorb into the skin and not leave the skin greasy?i’m trying to find a homemade recipe that will absorb into the skin and not be so greasy.
Thank you so much for you quickly replying I appreciate it.
Hi Anita why do t you try adding a bit of arrowroot powder to absorb some of the oiliness like with body butters
Where to buy that ? I need it please
