    Basic recipe:
    3 parts infused oil, 1 part mango or shea butter, 1 part beeswax. SO if making 16 ounces it would be 12 ounces herb infused oil, 2 ounces beeswax, 2 ounces mango or shea butter.
    Add essential oils of choice

    • @ad-wk2sc
      @ad-wk2sc Рік тому +13

      Wait. Shouldn't it be like this: ?
      3 parts infused oil, 1 part mango or shea butter, 1 part beeswax = 6 (not 12) ounces herb infused oil, 2 ounces beeswax, 2 ounces mango or shea butter.

    Heidi- I just started my second plantain salve. I foraged 100 broadleaf plantain and dried them on a rack in my garden. I whizzed them up in a smoothie maker. I bought a new mason jar. I bought 4 bottles of avocado oil. I put the dry plantain in the jar, and added 3 bottles of avocado oil. I'll leave it for 2 months to infuse. I'll then sieve the contents of the jar. I'll use coconut oil and beeswax to make the salve.

    Heidi, last year I made a healing salve, based on what you already had on your channel, and made it specifically for my chickies--- I use it on any wounds or bald spots that they have (for sunburn, their combs, etc.)---it works like a champ! I really believe in the natural healing wonders of what's in the back yard and what a person can make from flowers, herbs, etc. I have learned a lot from you and really appreciate your videos--my hubby loves it when he sees Patrick make something on the channel or when he speaks up too! Blessings from Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN :)

    I love mango butter - not a fan of shea. You can always put a stainless screwer or utensil in the jars before pouring to prevent the glass cracking, because the stainless steel absorbs the heat.

But, we are always looking for ways to boost our immune system. And eating healthier no white flour no white sugar no pork no processed foods on and on I could go on about what I have cut out. But you are helping me to understand the herbs better. Thank you Heidi, I wish I could have come across your channel when you started it. But I think that God is a timely God! Even making my own, I still love to watch other people make salves, etc. Like you I want my oil super strong, which means I plan ahead. I infuse my oils and after I strain them I do a double infusion by adding more herbs to that infused oil and infuse it again. I love bee's wax to stiffen it up. To finish it off I have a bowl of ice water ready. I set my pan of infused oils and melted bee's wax in the cold pan and immediately whisk it like crazy. It makes it fluffy, lighter and creamier. Keep up the good work. I so look forward to your videos. I learn something every single time ☺️

    As a general rule, the orange oils are not phototoxic, grapefruit, lemon, lime, and bitter orange are (though they can sometimes be used super-diluted). There are a few noncitrus oils that are phototoxic; a reliable company will have the information in the product description

      Sweet orange/wild orange,mandarin,tangerine,lemongrass (not a citrus though), steam distilled lime and lemon oils are not phototoxic.Some even argue about grapefruit.On the other hand, steam distilled sweet orange,lime,lemon,bergamot and bitter orange are.Same with other essential oils.
      "It takes 24 times as much grapefruit essential oil to be as phototoxic as 1 drop of bergamot.
      Here’s a list of the maximum number of drops per ounce of carrier oil before each of these essential oils will cause a phototoxic reaction:
      bergamot 1 drop

      Comfrey, arnica, and castor oil are great options. Please check out my video here on an infused oil for joints and muscles, I do not talk about castor oil in this one but now I blend it with the avocado oil when making the infusion: ua-cam.com/video/oDZCAXxH4U8/v-deo.html
      Here is the short where I mention adding the castor oil: ua-cam.com/video/ytDA8C6HpX0/v-deo.html

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  11 місяців тому +1

      Adding a liquid like that to fats and oils is tricky because fat and water do not mix but it can work with emulsification which is a messy process that requires a blender. I hate it myself so I am one would would apply the colloidal silver first then the salve over the top. Much easier and less mess

  • @darleneschreiber9415
    @darleneschreiber9415 8 місяців тому

    I love when I come across these older videos and they turn out to be something I need at this moment! (Is Google reading my mind? 😆) Anyway.....I made some comfrey salve, a year or so ago. A LARGE amount, too. It works very well. However, it's a bit "grainy"....as if the beeswax (the yellow stuff) didn't melt well. As a result, when I rub it in, globs fall off...it never seems to fully "smooth" into my skin, no matter how long I rub it in. Frustrating. But, I don't want to throw it out.
    I believe the only ingredients are the comfrey oil (almond oil plus the comfrey), the yellow beeswax, and possibly some shea butter.
    So, first, what did I do wrong to cause this? Second, is there any way I can smooth it out? Melt it? Let it dissolve again? But then what?

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  8 місяців тому +1

      I have this happen from time to time with my skin creams and more even if it all melted and everything started off as smooth after it first cooled. My only theory on this is changes in temperature or when they cool too quickly. I have often remelted such things to get them a better texture again

      My mother in law gave that to me many years ago, long before I actually had a treacle machine. While new ones can be purchased, they can be very expensive. I believe Lehman's carries them. Try looking in places such as eBay, facebook market and other such places that one can find used items. Sometimes you can find pretty good deals on them
