Ford replaced my 2019 Escape 1.5 that only had 9000 miles on it and was only 11 months old. It’s been fine since. Hopefully they used the updated block without the coolant jacket between the cylinders. The car now has over 30,000 on it.
Great video. I think my sons 1.5L Escape might be having the beginnings of this problem. I sure hope not. Misfire in cylinder 2 & 4. Vehicle has 51k miles. Dealership is trying to get out of doing the work on warranty. Said some nonsense about Powertrain warranty may not cover and it depends on what the issue is actually?!? As if a cylinder misfire is not a powertrain issue….. Gave them the TSB number, and they were arguing well that’s just a TSB, it’s not a recall…. Never said it was…. Sheesh….
My fusion just bit the dust 2 days ago. Rough idle and lost coolant. Check engine light as well. Coolant intrusion into the engine. I don’t understand why ford didn’t recall this engine. If I didn’t have an extended warranty I would be paying for this.
My 2019 ford escape 1.5L coolant intrusion started at 31000 miles. There was no white smoke, but I was loosing coolant, and, yet, my garage floor was dry. I got rid of it quick. With the way ford's recalls have been going, I'm saying goodbye. Never coming back, after 47 years of owning fords.
We had a 2018 Ford Escape SEL with 64,000. We had a Cylinder 2 misfire. Ford told us we had coolant in #2. They want $5500 for short block 8k for a long block. We laughed at them, and they came back 2 days later saying that they would cover half. Laughed at them again and had the car towed out to a Toyota dealership where they gave us what we owed for the Escape and drove off in a brand new 2021 RAV4 XLE AWD. We had a 2013 Focus with transmission issues and Ford told us they worked all the problems out with the Escape. Ford lost a loyal customer of 8 years, it’s apparent they have issues and if they aren’t willing to fix it for free, then they no longer need my money. We had the escape serviced at Ford every 5k and have the folder of receipts to prove it, so don’t give me any shit about not taking care of the maintenance.

Hi! I just got my Ford Escape 2018 out from Ford Service Center today because of this issue. I would like to verify if this issue may re-occur after they removed and replaced the short block as per TSB 20-2100. The way I understand your video, this is a Ford Recall meaning a known issue. This should be a permanent fix? I am just so glad that Ford fully covered it with their warranty. I didn't pay a dime for this fix. I really appreciate your video. This got me well educated with what Ford has done with my car engine because I'm no mechanic and have no idea what they are telling me while the car is with them as well as what they will be doing to fix it. So a $3000-$7000 part, on top of labor and its the consumers fault for buying a faulty built pile of shit. The only reason it's not a recall is because it hasn't caused death
I owned a used Honda once with a leaking head gasket (or head) I that put coolant into a cylinder. The fluid level would get low, and it would not idle when started cold. You had to rev the engine for about one minute to keep it running while it warmed up. Then it would idle and ran well until it got low enough of coolant to overheat. A real pain. I pulled the head and sent it to a shop. It was not repairable. A new head was $1300 in 1992. Traded it in.

I can't find anything on 2020 model TSB. I'm going to the dealer today for an oil change and gonna talk to the owner there (I happen to know her). Hopefully they take care of me. We'll see...
My 2018 Ford Escape had a rough idle when started and check engine light came on for misfire cylinder 3. After performing a pressure test and pulling the spark plug for that specific cylinder, it was soaked in coolant later to confirm 2 cracks found on the short block. Vehicle has 97,000 miles and after contacting Ford, they would only replace engine on them if it was under 84,000 miles per warranty. Its a absolute crime that Ford sends out a statement admitting to a flaw with the engine design that causes this specific issue and can get away without fixing the repair on them. Ive been quoted anywhere from $6,000-$8,000 to replace the engine now out of my pocket...

And addressing issues involving warranty expenses. After all--warranty claims will show the manufacturer that there are issues that need to be corrected.

Got mine replaced last week and hope the car has otherwise not suffered e.g. catalytic converter or sensors due to bad running of the engine. Fortunately I got the 5 year warrant so I am still covered although it could have been solved a lot earlier. A lot of people aren't that lucky and need to pay a big premium short after purchasing a not necessarily cheap car. The dealer told me that they have had several cases lately. I am wondering if the timing belt is also a necessary part to be replaced since it is a crucial part. Thanks for your videos. They clear up a lot of questions for an interested viewer.
The timing belt doesn't really wear like people think it does on these, I've got one in my stall right now with the same mileage that I'm actually pulling apart and I'm going to be doing a small video series on it the timing belt almost never wear out at that mileage
@@FordBossMe Thanks for the answer. Well, I think the timing belt is an important part and if there is a new block it should also extend on the maintenance and replacement cycle. Does the belt run in oil as on 1.0l Ecoboost engines? I have seen videos on those where the timing belt really wore out / fell apart due to using wrong oil or not keeping the replacement interval. If it shows up in the warranty repair notes then it should also be replaced and noted in the service profile. Just my opinion. Your videos will be interesting. Looking forward to it 👍

I have a 2016 2.0 L ecoboost Fusion with CEL and needs a short block due to coolant intrusion(Failed at 67k miles). It’s covered under warranty, but do you think there might be additional problems after this gets replaced? I am seeing mixed opinions where more problems occur or not at all and I’m starting to think it’s becoming a gamble of luck
My daughter just had her 2017 2.0L Ecoboost engine replaced in her Escape under warranty. They did not say anything about whether the new engine has the new design that eliminates the coolant leak. Is there some way for us to confirm that the replacement block used will not have the same issue and reflects a permanent fix? We had planned to keep this vehicle in the family for many years.
Great update, could really use your advise on my situation. I have a 2017 Escape with the 1.5L engine. Began to run rough, and engine light came on. Dealer said this is a recall, but because the engine lost only 2 lbs of PSI / 5 hours, it did not qualify for the Ford recall spec of 4 PSI / 5 hours....therefore Ford will not qualify this case for the recall. I'm trying to escalate this with Ford customer service, but that has been a total runaround with very uneducated and none willing to escalate customer service zombies. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.....thanks in advance.
I’m scared this would happen to me, because they informed me that if I came in for that fsa and I wasn’t qualified then later on if the situation got worse the recall wouldn’t count since I brought it in before. Yikes
This happening to my 2016 Ford Fusion 1.5 eco boost . Slowly loses coolant , smells kinda like coolant . And we already did a engine swap at 117,000 for one with 65,000 and the same thing is happening again runs rough loses coolant slowly . And we had a p219A. What do I do?
What happens if I took my care to the dealer while it was under power train warranty but they said it was fine and now it’s right last it and it’s junk now what?
I have a 2017 Escape with 86,500 miles. I am experiencing the coolant intrusion with all the miss fire codes. Ford will not not repair because of the millage on the car. I noticed the Service Bulletin does not mention millage. Am I covered?
It's only if you're within the powertrain warranty some of the 1.5 L ended up getting a extension but not all of them and at 86,000 Miles you're outside of even the extension so yeah it's completely on you right now unfortunately
Hello, awesome video, thanks for the info. Any idea why Ford Mondeo 1.5 ecoboost 2018 cars are not included? Almost the same engine as the fusion, same codes and same coolant leak issues. Why would Ford ignore those? Thanks

Looks like I have the exact same problem on my 2015 Ford Focus 1.5 ecoboost. Do you know if there is a document from Ford Europe which specify that diagnostic ? I will try to negotiate with Ford France to low the price as much as they can if it's a hidden commom problem. Thanks a lot!
I have an 18 Fusion that has check engine light on, runs ruff and code p0302. Question: will ford cover the fix no matter how many miles are on the vehicle or does it still have to be under warranty. Thank you.
I have a 2013 escape 1.6 se that has low coolant repeatedly. no over heating but needs coolant at least twice a month and no obvious leak can you please suggest something to resolve?
Question, I have a 2017 fusion 1.5. Noticed the coolant temp dropping while coasting to a stop and struggled to get up to operating temp. Just replaced the thermostat and flushed the system adding fords new yellow coolant in the system. At idle the temp slowly gets to operating temp but once I raise rpms to purge and air out of the system the temp drops back down again. Heater pumps out plenty of hot air as well. Any ideas on what could be happening?
I'm searching for the short block to replace mine before it gets worse because it is definitely showing all these signs ... but I can't find it... oem Ford parts dealers aren't showing me the 6009-G at all... any suggestions?
Well most of the locations that did have the short block or saying that they were on back order and online they really went on back order so the dealers were the only ones that were able to get them so I would suggest that you just generically call up your local dealer and ask them for the short block based on Vin and the short block build kit there's a gasket kit that has everything in it for the most part if you can't find it that way you're not going to find it
We got a 2015 Ford fusion with 88,000 miles no extended warranty. The exact same issues you were talking about just started happening can we negotiate with Ford if we have to get a new engine block to pay for some of the cost?
@@FordBossMe Thank you for the speedy reply! Because I am not in warranty I am looking at a used engine from a 2020 model year Fusion. Or is there a serial number on the engine blocks that are post update? VIN tag on the engine would be great and easiest if there is spot to ID...
The main thing that you need to focus on is over maintenance on your vehicle and that's means service it way sooner than what it needs to be per the manufacturer

Get it replaced
If you don't it will snowball
My daughter just had her 2017 2.0L Ecoboost engine replaced in her Escape under warranty. They did not say anything about whether the new engine has the new design that eliminates the coolant leak. Is there some way for us to confirm that the replacement block used will not have the same issue and reflects a permanent fix? We had planned to keep this vehicle in the family for many years.
Thanks for the info. Does ford cover the cost of the short block?
If it's still under warranty or you have an extended service plan yes
@@FordBossMe Thank you Ford Boss great channel with great Content my man

We have just purchased a 2019 a week ago and it has the low coolant i was not aware of any of this am i still covered for this repair
Have you seen many 16 Fusions ever have an issue with coolant loss? I have a 16 2.0 and haven't had the issue, hoping I'm not affected lol
Call Ford Crc department and explain its loosing coolant slowly
Tell them the story
Had a long block replacement on my 2017 Escape with the 1.5l. Out of warranty, luckily I had the ESP.
ESP?
Thanks
This is for the U.S. Market - you guys have different postings there
@@FordBossMe you mean no postings 🤣. Ford has done nothing for people with this engine in Mondeo 2018 which disgusts me. Is the engine in fusion and Mondeo the same?
@@nufftajbl I think so
Do you think the 1.5 will benefit from a valve cover breather? Less head pressure maybe 🤔
Sweet Thx for the update

I have an 18 Fusion that has check engine light on, runs ruff and code p0302. Question: will ford cover the fix no matter how many miles are on the vehicle or does it still have to be under warranty. Thank you.
No it's not a recall it gets taken care of under your regular warranty if you're out of that you have to pay out-of-pocket
I have a 2013 escape 1.6 se that has low coolant repeatedly. no over heating but needs coolant at least twice a month and no obvious leak can you please suggest something to resolve?
Can i get by without buying the short block on my car if its not cracked? In trying to repair myself and just don't have the money
If there is no issue now don't bother it
My dad's 17 fusion had that problem fixed.
Those coolant systems can be tricky to get all the air out you probably still have some here in they like to be vacuum filled not regular filled
I'm searching for the short block to replace mine before it gets worse because it is definitely showing all these signs ... but I can't find it... oem Ford parts dealers aren't showing me the 6009-G at all... any suggestions?
Well most of the locations that did have the short block or saying that they were on back order and online they really went on back order so the dealers were the only ones that were able to get them so I would suggest that you just generically call up your local dealer and ask them for the short block based on Vin and the short block build kit there's a gasket kit that has everything in it for the most part if you can't find it that way you're not going to find it
Thank you, I appreciate the suggestion!
Hey will the engine last a long time after it’s fixed or the problem might eventually pop up again ?
. They fixed it and Am planing on keeping mine .
its a good engine and will last for sure
We got a 2015 Ford fusion with 88,000 miles no extended warranty. The exact same issues you were talking about just started happening can we negotiate with Ford if we have to get a new engine block to pay for some of the cost?
You can try but I don't know how good it's going to be you unless you push hard
Thanks for the reply back Ford boss you gained another follower!
Any problems with the 2014 EcoBoost? Cause I have the white smoke, low coolant, check engine light (not all the time)?
Does your vehicle fit in campaign window
Have you seen any of these “low milage” failures on vehicles beyond the date range described in the TSB?
No
@@FordBossMe Thank you for the speedy reply! Because I am not in warranty I am looking at a used engine from a 2020 model year Fusion. I do not recall Ford putting the vehicles VIN number on these late model ecoboost engines. Is there a way to identify the vehicle the engine came from? Or is there a serial number on the engine blocks that are post update? VIN tag on the engine would be great and easiest if there is spot to ID...
Update, The last 8 of the VIN of the vehicle a 1.5 is out of is stamped on the flat of of the engine block ear for the starter mount.
How is the 1.6L Ecoboost 2016 escape? Mines been good so far and I don't tend to see that year listed with these issues as often. Cheers!
The main thing that you need to focus on is over maintenance on your vehicle and that's means service it way sooner than what it needs to be per the manufacturer

I own a 2015 Escape with 1.6 Ecoboost and have heard this model also has this same issue. The engine has 40,000mls. Should I be looking into an extended warranty?
Yes
Do you order all parts from the TSB? Do you have a short list of the essentials?
That tells you the ones that you need versus the ones that are as needed
This is exact problem with my 2017 escape. It’s powertrain warranty ended 28 days ago.. but still under 60k. Any advice or am I done for?

Hey sir. I have a 2013 and I am now having this issue. As you can see there are people all over here with the 2013 but this bulletin only starts at 2014. Do you know if you buy your car used and it hasnt had any recalls fixed....can I go to Ford and get these fixed? Also have you seen anything on the 2013? Thankyou!
My experience buying used Fords are that Ford will treat the same if you are the original owner or not.
Thank you
Is this a tsb or a recall? We have a 2017 escape 1.5 that's running rough and low coolant
Not a recall and all of the vehicles that used to be covered under the extended service campaign are pretty much out of it call up your local dealer ask them if they have any campaigns open on engine replacement
Where are you located? I need to come you if I have any problems with my 19 fusion

Hi, Could you please help me? I have a 2018 Ford Kuga 1.5 Ecoboost (European version of Escape) and the coolant level went down from max to mid between max and min over 900kms (roughly 600 miles).
Could you please tell me if the same coolant problem exists with Kugas as well?
Also, if the problem occurs, how fast does the coolant ebbs?
Many thanks for your help.

If you look in the library you'll see that yes it does happen to the escapes as well which is your version of what you're driving
Continue to drive the vehicle in Monitor and see if it continues to drop with no external coolant leak visual

Can you show me the location of the cylinder head temperature sensor 2018 1.5 eco fusion ?
It's in the back of the cylinder head right behind the valve cover there's a silver sleeve that sits over it
Literally just look right in the middle of the valve cover right behind it by the firewall and it's plugged in right above the exhaust manifold he's got any cylindrical aluminum coated sleeve you pull that back and then it's right underneath
Right right at the very top of the motor
Right at the back edge of the valve cover
Thanks so much
I’m panicking. I have a 2015 Ecoboost and not sure if I have this problem. Coolest levels look fine but I seem to have a lot of steam coming out of the tailpipe. Yeah it’s cold weather here but it seems to take 20 mins of driving before it doesn’t do it. Is that normal?

@@brittanysutton5465 so the only thing that I'll be able to find out is basically what type of engine you have because if it is the coolant intrusion the dealer has to pressure test the system to look for the leak some dealers don't have guys that are very well-versed in how to do this but if you're in a busy area this dealer should know what to look for
