I own a 2017 2.0 fusion... tomorrow i am doing a coolant pressure test followed by a bore scope view a few hrs after. I was having p0303 pop up every day for a while. So far i changed all my plugs, swapped my coils around, cleaned my coil connectors with contact cleaner, used sea foam in the tank and used crc valve cleaner in the throttle body then took it for a drive on the high way after i let it heat soak for 45 mins. After all of this i have not had a code pop up in weeks and before the p0303 was popping up once a day. I also inspected the pink coolant as well as the synthetic oil itself...as well as di a cylinder compression test per cylinder. as well as used starting fluid on a cold start engine to spray down all vacuum lines and the intake manifold gasket areas mainly focusing on the cylinder 3 area to start with..... So next i will pressure test the coolant and if this comes back good then i will rule out a leaking head....
You covered all your basis lol just make sure you let that pressure tester sit on there for several hours before ruling out that you don’t have coolant intrusion. Sometimes it can be a very slow leak. Also if it does fail that test I hate to be the one to tell you but you will need to replace the long block to solve that.
@@FlyingWrenches13 yes I have done a lot of research. If it came down to it. Ford would charge me about 8,000 out of pocket for a new long block with all parts as well as 16.5 hrs of labor at 120 hr in Ford dollars with a full 3 year unlimited mile warranty I believe. But what they don’t tell you is that if you install a oil catch can system on it that it will void the warranty. I’m considering putting one on my 62,000 engine now. I’m glad you said let it stay on for several hours because that might of tricked me if I only do it for an hour. I hope it passes but I also look at it like this. The 8,000 vs a trade in for a new or newer car will just give me a bill a lot bigger than 8,000 and may come with a new host of TSB etc. I even weighed out the value of buying a low mileage fusion engine used to have thrown in vs just trying to get the head gasket replaced on mine if it is a coolant intrusion. I’ve done lots of head gaskets in the past but never on anything so new. Thank you for the intel. It’s appreciated more than you know! What I really should be looking into is keeping my eyes out for a used fusion updated long block engine from a car that gets T boned in the rear or side. Now that’s pretty much what my eagle eye will have a permanent eye out for in case a good deal pops up.
Well I will say I really like your thinking man. Sounds like you got it figured out. A catch can shouldn’t void your warranty but at the end of the day it’s really up to the dealer and what they want to do. Did they tell you it would void your warranty? It’s really dumb to void a warrant because of something that if anything is going to pro long the life of your engine.
White smoke, misfiring, coolant loss rough running, these are the symptoms of intrusion. You can only have one of these things and be a direct correlation to the coolant intrusion I do a lot of these motors, sometimes you don't get codes... sometimes you do I just finished one and by the time I finished one I was on they had another one for me.... they are coming in like hotcakes Nice to see other Ford Tech's actually speaking up about this
My daughter just had her 2.0L Ecoboost replaced under warranty on her 2017 Escape. The dealer did not mention anything about an updated block. Is there some wayt for us to verify that an updated block was put in and that she will not have this issue again in the future? We planned on keeping this vehicle a long time.
If you have a coolant consumption issue, check with Ford, as they are replacing some short blocks at no charge due to this failure. Some of them are out of the original warranty however STILL covered. SO ASK your dealership!
Question I have a 2018 Ford Fusion Se 1.5L EcoBoost. I am experiencing the P2 code, low coolant and check engine light blinking. Juddering when driving and blinking check engine light. I just had the spark plugs changed in Oct. 2023. If I change the spark plugs and drain coolant can I still drive it until I can pay this car off and get rid of it without replacing engine?
Hi Flying Wrenches my girlfriend has a 2019 Ford Escape SE Ecoboost and it started blowing White smoke out of the exhaust and we were told that it needed new Spark Plugs and a New Coil but it was losing coolant and we would fill it back up and it would just keep losing coolant
Hi, Do you know the engien code on these engiens with these fault?? I'm from Norway and I have a Ford Focus 1.5 182 hp with the engien code M9DB. I am wondering if this can have the same problem?
Its gonna be a PO301 PO302 PO303 OR A PO304 each ending number represents what cylinder os misfiring and if its PO 300 that means its multiple at one time

I’m here because I have a 2017 fusion exoboost and have check engine light which says misfire cylinder 4, coolant loss, and no heat. I bought the car used in 2020. Like I said I just put all the pieces together today and am doing research on what to do next. I’m out of warranty and from what I’m seeing my only option is a new engine. Is that correct? Sorry if I’m wrong I’m really new in my research on this problem. But I came across your video and am almost 100% certain this is my problem. What should I do?
This just happened to me. I drive the car two days then the engine light came on. Stalled at initial start up. Now the car won't start. Mechanic says it's my coil. Am I screwed??? Is changing the engine the only way or is there an easier way to fix it, its difficult where we are at to get a replacement!

mine says engine coolant overtemperature no code loosing coolant
what do u suggest i do is it a recall ford will fix also when i press gas pedal its barely moving
@@clipsreloaded3347 if you're under warranty you're good. I bought mine with no warranty. Got a deal and now Ford's factory problem killed it
Most of the cylinders that I see the intrusion or most of the misfires is actually on 2 and 3

Agreed. For some reason it’s always 3 for me.

2017

It eventually happens on all of them.

No problem! Hope it helped.
is there a typical cylinder this is seen on?
I just wandering about how many miles does this condition start or does it matter?
It varies. I’ve seen them start with as little as 20K miles and I’ve also seen them have 150K before they start.
I have a 2016 fusion w/ 2.0 ecoboost, it’s been to the dealership 3 times this month, keeps throwing a turbo over boost code, could this be the cause?
No you usually wouldn’t see a over boost code for this problem. Most likely something going on with the waste gate.
Needs an engine
Not head gasket?

My mechanic said they are replacing the entire engine block to rectify the problem
If I'm looking for a reliable crossover similar to the ford escape size what would you recommend?
Are you looking to buy new?
No used I was looking at the escapes bc they had a lower price tag on newer used models and had lower mileage usually that's a good deal lol
Buy an escape with the 2.5 or a exploder with the 3.5 both are very dependable.

It is possible that it’s your turbo leaking coolant but 9 times out of 10 on these 1.5’s they need a short block.
Can i try some silver seal in it
