  • Comment below if you think you know the difference between the 2015-2018 2.0 Ecoboost coolant issues and the 2019+ 2.0 Ecoboost Coolant issues. They are not the same and one has a much cheaper cost to it than the other. Education goes a long way and rumor with misdiagnosis can be costly.

Hello we just got a 2016 Ford Edge it is using a lot of coolant and now is having difficulty starting everyone is telling me it probably needs a new motor because of coolant Intrusion. We are calling tomorrow to check on the 12,000 warranty the dealership said we were getting. Wish me luck

Some 2019's still had the engine Block problem. The Ford eco boost engine block issue was fixed in the mid 2019's & Up

Hello my friend. Not a car guy… I do computers lol. I unfortunately am dealing with this exact issue and this passed sat, I gave it a gallon of coolant and it slurped it in a 10 minute drive to the dealership. Preface, I have a 3rd party extended warranty. I am getting a new long block. 2019, edge tit, 2.0. Coolant intrusion BIG TIME. Of course with warranty, I’m not bitching about a new block(sorta, maybe kinda awesome) but! What should I look for after new engine is installed? I LOVE my edge. Seriously but with 73k and a new engine, I want it to drive forever. Great videos

Only the 2019 Edge does not have this problem. Other 2019 models that use the 2.0 can have the issue depending on the build date. Here are the models that can be affected by the engine coolant intrusion problem:
    - 2015-2018 Edge
    - 2017-2019 Fusion/MKZ built on or before 8-Apr-2019
    - 2017-2019 Escape built on or before 16-May-2019
    - 2017-2019 MKC built on or before 18-Apr-2019

Hello, than you for illustrating the defective design by Ford with their earlier 2.0 Ecoboost engines. Have you heard of any possible re-calls from this design flaw? Hers is my story with my 2015 Ford Edge. Bought as dealer shuttle, only 11k miles on it. Paid for 100k maint service and warranty. At 92K transmission broke down , torque converter etc. Ford repaired due to having 100K warranty. However at this time I believe is when the flex plate was damaged. At 110k, miles March 2022, flex plate cracked. Was not covered due to warranty expired. I left it at the dealer for approximately 6 months ( didn't need it ) and finally paid 5K ( after 2500 Ford customer satisfaction credit ). Then Oct 2022 it became a recall and I got reimbursed. At 129k, may 2023, transmission broke down again. Dealer failed to inform me it was covered from the warranty of the repair and said it would take at least 2 weeks before anyone could examine it. I decided to take to a high rated transmission shop and paid 5k to rebuild it again. I've had a couple other "wear and tear" items replaced, trans axle and purge valve. However now, at only 148k miles, I have the coolant intrusion into cylinder #3. Very minor at this point, only mis-fired upon start up. Here is my questions: the short block they replaced in 2022 , part number F2GE 6009 E, is this the same defective design short block ? if so, why wouldn't they replace with the Ford approved long block or newer design?. I have sent registered letter to Ford and Jim Farely, as well as the dealer that did the repair asking etc. Any advice moving forward? so far I have spent 8k in repairs on this Edge and don't have 150k miles yet. thank you!

Trying to get the facts here, is the Edge engine different from other 2.0 EcoBoost in 2019? Just wondering why 2019 up to may build date (which would include basically all 2019) for escape and mkz among others...is still included in the tsb for engine replacement? My parents own a 2019 and I was aware of this issue and just noticed their coolant is well below the minimum.

There is supposed to be no issues for the 2.0 in the 2019 edge. For the Escaoe the issue still affects vehicles built before mid May 2019. You can look at the VIN sticker to see the build date to know if you could be affected.

Are there any such issues with the 2014 edge? It's at 144k with no major issues to date.

No. You should be fine. I have a 2014 escape, and it doesn't have the block issue.

So 2015 through 2018 have the flowed block. Thats crazy. Ford managed to build ecoboost 1.5- 1.6 and 2.0 engines in 2013 and 2014 no problem. Then....in 2015 they put a slot in the block causing coolant issues but....then corrected it in 2019. Do i have this right? Dude said.... i dont mean to be mean at ya... the problem is on 2015 through 2018. Soooo 2013 and 2014 are all good?

I did this for about a year on my 2017 edge until the engine started misfiring and burning coolant. At this point, you need a new engine.
