Thanks for the meniscus injury answer at 54:00. Very helpful. I don't think I will do surgery. I have pain but have great mobility and can roll pretty good. It feels the doctor wants to do surgery because that's what he's good at. 20 minutes of attention total in two consultations, looks at an MRI, and concludes to do surgery. Did not consider I am an athlete training 6 times a week. Seems like a generic recommendation.
I had torn meniscus on both knees. At a time a had a few friends who did surgery and they are done with any sport. I decided not to do the surgery. Doctors told me that It will cause problems and I'll be back in max 5 years. 15 years passed and I'm completely fine. On the other hand healthcare in my country is s***
17:35 Notes on getting to purple belt: - If you train 3x a week, for 10 years, you'll [approximately] be [at] a purple belt [level]. - If you want to get to [approximately] black belt [level] you have to train 6x a week [for 10 years] - If you want to be a blue belt, training 3x a week, in 2 years you could be a good blue belt. - Everybody should get to purple belt at least, minimum blue belt. - Giving someone a purple belt means, if you made it this far, you have to go all the way to black belt. - To get from blue to purple is the hardest breakthrough. - To go from white to blue is "mickey mouse" - it's a minimum for everybody, everybody should have a blue belt. - At purple belt, describing you as an advanced BJJ practitioner; you know advanced things - you know key movements, you know advanced positions. - To go from blue to purple is such a huge divide, if you broke that far you must now get to expert [i.e. black belt]. - Giving purple belt - expect to get to black belt. It's like a bachelors degree, expect you to get to PhD. Personally, I like measurable targets (to add to my goal document), so here is my attempt at trying to quantify the MINIMUM commitment required based on the above (assuming that the practise is intelligent deliberate practise - because if you're going to be at a level of belt you might as well be solid in that level given the mental toughness and resilience it takes to keep turning up): - Approximately good blue belt - 312 sessions (i.e. classes) [3 days x 52 weeks x 2 years] - Approximately purple belt - 1,560 sessions [3 days x 52 weeks x 10 years] - Approximately black belt - 3,120 sessions [6 days x 52 weeks x 10 years]
Atum The Twiceborn Doosemagoostus I get where you’re coming from, it is tough seeing those numbers. But a few years ago I choose to try and incorporate ‘intense realism’ into my life so I would accept harsh realities even if I didn’t like them. I’d rather get the reality of the sacrifice it takes from Firas, and be confident in the level that I am at, than be given an inflated sense of my abilities by a coach handing out belts casually, and then get my arse handed to me by a real opponent because I just don’t meet the standard. From a mental toughness point of view as well, even if it takes a while to hit these numbers, the mental fortitude that will be built just going through the process consistently will help in all other areas of life.
Atum The Twiceborn Doosemagoostus Atum The Twiceborn Doosemagoostus I think you may be overthinking the truth vs power issue to the point of it losing any real world utility. At a certain point it just becomes a paralysis by analysis kind of situation. For me it boils down to choices. If people choose not to accept “truth” (which is ridiculously hard to define objectively anyway) that’s up to them and they will have a life that reflects that. I’m not sure I agree with you that I’m doing anything related to “power”. I’m just trying to work towards virtues that I have chosen to be worthwhile things to work towards. My take on intense realism is that it should be enough to make sure I’m not bullshitting myself but not so much that I’m totally uncalibrated in society.
@@atumthetwiceborndeucemagus3467 I didn't claim I was a realist - I said I made the choice to try to incorporate realism into my life. If you think it's worth being uncalibrated in society then good for you. But I think it's important to understand what makes society work and then try and do what I need to within those confines. It's the Economist approach of maximising utility within the constraints that exist. Or the stoic way of influencing whatever you can influence and avoid trying to control what you can't control.

For the guy who asked about inguinal hernias, research all the available techniques and complications and reports from people who've had them. After I had mine I found out about the Desarda method which seemed promising but was no longer relevant for me since I already had the standard surgery. Generally I prefer to let the body heal itself, but with inguinal hernias the surgery option really is the only way to go if you want to be active at all for the rest of your life. Otherwise the hernia just gets worse and can eventually become very problematic. Also make sure to do your research on doctors in your area with lots of successful experience doing hernia repair surgeries, and verify the mesh they will be using isn't suspect for recalls.
Hey Coach great video as usual ...regarding the knee injuries, from my experience... with good physio, IF or even Prolong Fasting because this model will lower inflammation in the body as results to quicker healing also good rest and plus good food that would also lower inflammation and most injuries should heal naturally but like you said the pain might be a bit higher for a bit longer..

Dear Coach Zahabi, My ultimate goal with regards to martial arts is to master the fundamental arts: Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muy Thai, and Boxing. I have trained 9 months in the gi and attained the rank of blue belt(Rigan Macahdo, Renato Magno - Kenny Bond (RIP)) next I trained for 1 year at 10 Th Planet HQ (Eddie Bravo - Marvin Castelle). I am doing this to rehabilitate my knee, increase my strength to squat/bench/deadlift to 2.5 times my body weight, and to reach 200lbs(I believe at 200lbs with proper technique I will not fear any man). Firas I respect what your experiences and what you have to say, which is why I'm surprised you would disregard and criticize a question of focus at minute 21:00. "How to increase attention span during a fight?". You talk about flow states often enough to address this question better....perhaps the person is too challenged or not challenged enough. Perhaps it is a matter of diet and energy. Perhaps the person isnt fighting in a matter that is engaging to them. I often lose focus in physical encounters. Some people's minds aren't hardwired for physical confrontations. I suggest brain exercises. I suggest warming up longer before sparring to make sure your mind is in the right place. I DONT SUGGEST treating that question lightly because it sounds strange at face value. The person is addressing something that can affect their physical well being. Coach Khabib's talked about getting into that "flow" zone in training. Which is great, and I think so key. And some of my instructors in BJJ kind of naturally get that idea. But others flip into drill sergeant mode and get right up on me and push me over and bark and really drive me even when I'm like "I'm freaking out and need a sec." In my 4-5 months of BJJ training, this seems to happen semi-regularly with random instructors or higher belts assisting. Any suggestions for dealing with an instructor who doesn't agree with getting in the flow and wants to push you into meltdown territory? I want to be respectful and not just toss my hands up and be like "Heck with this. Imma bounce!" But I also don't want to get myself into a headspace where I'm scared to train, either.

@firaszahabj Hey coach, I’m an inspiring mma coming back from a spiral fracture in my right fibula, I’m trying to get back into fight shape for a competition in December. How can I get back into “fight shape” in the most effective way possible?
Hello, I have a question about your talk with Rogan about the difference b/t science and woo as observed reality being a complex interaction of correlation, not binary language-based causation. I got caught in a loop of Sufi mysticism, after trying to give the correct answers to a Canadian Muslim theoretical physicist. Now mysteries do not exist, only problems to be solved. When your brother did not register the specific danger of the first spin, and kept forward on the offensive boxing range path, he didn't think what was coming. If I was not of pure intent, do have any idea the money I could make BETTING on a blood sport? Motion-capturing reality can be cool, or infuriating. Glitches are to treated as strictly a cosmic joke. The Zahir, when self aware, can through conscious connection, return an IIT value for a non-visible object (a pocket in my case) to a third-party observer. Watch Neither Heaven nor Earth for a dramatization of the same principle. How do interpret your faith in a transcendent reality?
How does it feel to be the #1 MMA coach in Joe Rogan's book?
Salaam coach. Much respect I've learnt a lot from you. Not often you get a coach at your level giving free advice or answering questions
When Khabib hears this he will move up to light heavyweight out of pure respect
Thank you
